Respectfully requesting khadija lore... shes so gorgeous i love the medieval (?) design influences and the stars in her hair so much!!!
o man where to begin..... so she's part of one of my current projects, Wormwood. she's actually the main character and the story mostly follows her perspective. it IS very medieval inspired & in a fantasy story/world. i have even made up a map, calendar, world history, time periods, etc.
the thing is......... Wormwood is currently going through yet another rewrite. unfortunately im obsessed with perfection and so ive been working on Wormwood for the last like ~5 years now. it's changed genre, theme, plot, etc so many times. i guess the good thing is that as of right now, her current story still stands and hasn't changed much so i can tell you a bit. lore under cut cause it gets kinda lawng
also her part 1 look below
Khadija is 23 years old, she's also transgender & kind of a shut in, at least at first. Her father disappeared before she was even born, with many people believing he had died. So she was raised by her mother for almost all of her life. Her mother, Nndeye, was an extremely gifted alchemist who taught at one of the premier schools for alchemy. Alchemy is new to their world, an unknown and mystical science that people are still trying to research and figure out. Nndeye pictured below
(Khadija and Nndeye's culture is largely based on Senegalese culture, more specifically the Wolof people, but its a fantasy story so I've taken a few creative liberties)
Unfortunately Nndeye died in an accident in her lab when Khadija was around 17, with Khadija being the only witness. The thing is Nndeye was so good at alchemy and so careful that Khadija believes she was murdered, so she gathers as many papers and evidence from her lab as she can before the defunct lab gets repurposed or torn down. During this excavation for evidence, Khadija uncovers her mother's journal/letters she had written indicating that she believes Khadija's father is alive and that she knows where he is, with other hints that there is a larger conspiracy going on that the world is unaware of.
The event changes Khadija though, and she becomes so petrified of the outside world that she sits on all this information for 6 years. She moves to a new nation, minds her business, and basically just wants to live quietly until 2 men begin tracking her down and following her around. Then she's forced to move into the world and find out exactly what happened to her mom and who/where her dad is.
I could say the story is basically about her looking for her dad, but there's a lot of other stuff that happens of course

i don’t think it’s that you drew khadija too inconsistently i think it’s just cos you said my ocs (with s, plural) and there’s 2 figures so people are assuming it’s 2 different characters. it’s a great drawing/design!
Weough thank you, I guess I was just thinking about my OCs in general when I made that caption, now that I have a ton of free time over this summer I'll be posting about them more

new khadija portrait... as i keep rewriting the story she gets younger and younger, as do all the characters. i think im comfortable with this being a sort of "final" version for her, with the given that she probably changes her hairstyle occasionally

seems like you’re onto the narrative writing and storytelling struggle - it depends on what format you want to write in, be it shortform or modular or episodic or longform, but keeping in mind that different writing advice tailors to different formats is going to help a lot. weirdly i find screenwriting advice more helpful than general fiction advice for comics. ones that helped me are ‘save the cat’ by blake snyder and ‘story’ by robert mckee, and stephen king has a memoir callee ‘on writing’ that has some writing advice between other stuff. i’ve also found that essays like hbomberguy’s that break down writing and narrative mistakes like the one about RWBY or BBC sherlock are helpful in giving better verbage and clarity on what specific big picture and nitpicking problems can happen in larger stories. hope that helps!
SORRY it took so long to respond
this is all definitely helpful advice. ive definitely tried my hand at screenwriting in the past, namely for my comic thundergun which i started 8 years ago and never finished
i think the thing im struggling the most with is like. how does one Know how many panels you need per page, and how does pacing translate into comic book form?? how do i decide what moments are important enough to depict on the page?? aside from of course just major plot beats. if i could id draw all my thoughts frame by frame
#ive long long thought about getting into animation#i even took some classes in highschool that i found really fun#and i have like 8+ story ideas currently written down and explored#but i definitely do not think they'd all be in the same medium#some would work well as comics. others as animated short stories. others as interactive novel#ask box
