Hey everyone! I wanted to give a shoutout to some of the fantastic artists I have had the good fortune to meeting over the years. Today I want to introduce you my incredible friend: I Am Doot!

Name: I Am Doot

1. How would you describe your art style? Honestly, I don’t have an exact style. I can do cartoony in one piece, and then semi-realistic in another. I’m fairly versatile when it comes to style, but I’m also learning every time I do art, so it changes often.

2. When did you start doing art? I’ve been an artist since I was a toddler, but I got more serious with art starting in middle school, when I got a Wacom tablet. I was about 12 when I got the tablet.

3. What has been your favorite thing that you’ve drawn/created? I have an affinity for dragons, so those are generally my favorites to draw.

4. Typically how long does it take you to complete a commission? The amount of time taken to finish a commission varies greatly depending on the style. If I work on a cartoony or simpler style, it can take a couple hours. It can take several hours for a painterly style full body piece.

5. Is there anything you refuse to do? For the most part, I won’t do humans or mecha for now. As I get more experience with art, I’ll feel more comfortable with offering a larger variety of choices.

6. Are you open to NSFW or do you want to keep it clean? I am okay with NSFW, but I am still very inexperienced with it. For the time-being, I’m okay with doing simpler pieces.

7. Who is your favorite artists? Are there any you follow and would love to give a shout out to? Personally, two of my top favorite artists are @Tokyozilla and @Kronos_Jackelhound on Instagram.

8. Where can clients see examples of your work?

9. What would you like new clients to know when they decide to contact you? 

I would love for them to know that they don’t need to feel put off by anything. I want them to feel comfortable when they commission me. If they need to ask me something, I highly encourage it.

Common misconceptions surrounding the care of monsters

Contrary to popular belief, it is NOT normal for a Cerberus’s heads to fight with one another; this indicates anxiety or lack of proper enrichment.

Giant spiders are actually very social creatures, and should not be housed alone.

Provide your Sphinx with enrichment by answering its riddles. Though Sphinxes can be trained to attack those who answer incorrectly, they actually normally speak in riddles as a form of social play that is essential to their development and well-being.

If you cannot provide brimstone and a large pool of lava for bathing, don’t purchase a Hellhound! They are animals with very specific care needs and their health will suffer if they are not given the proper habitat. Likewise, most Hellhound kibble brands on the market do not meet the recommended daily requirement of damned souls for Hellhounds. Always check the labels!

The practice of putting blinders over the eyes of Basilisks to make them less dangerous is cruel. Basilisks should not be kept in enclosures where people other than expert caretakers normally come into view.

Many hippocampi enjoy pulling sea chariots, boats or inflatable floats and it can be a good source of enrichment and exercise. Make this activity fun for your hippocampus by rewarding it with treats such as fish and allowing it to participate as it wants to.

A labyrinth is NOT an appropriate habitat for a Minotaur!! Minotaurs need fresh grass and shade to lie down in to be happy. Also, a diet of only human flesh will cause malnutrition. Supplement your Minotaur’s diet of kidnapped youths with a source of fiber, such as hay!

Remember, that hatchling Roc is an adorable fluff ball now, but it will eventually become a fearsome elephant-sized bird of prey with a ravenous appetite and very demanding housing requirements. A pet should always be a well-researched commitment, not an impulsive decision.

While going into the wild and gaining a dragon’s trust is often romanticized, there are many dragons in search of a loving family much closer to home! Try looking into dragon rescue organizations near you.

Some Manticores need to be fed live prey; others, however, will accept prey that has been frozen and thawed. It depends on the individual.

Even smaller species of griffin need a lot of space. Domestic rock-griffins, though only the size of a cat, need room to fly and to build large nests. If you live in an apartment, it is better to adopt one of the smallest species, such as one of many types of song-griffins! Humming-griffins, however, though you may have seen cute videos on Instagram, should be avoided because they are not domesticated and their wild populations are endangered by the pet trade. It is best to admire their iridescent feathers in visits to accredited conservation organizations!

Like seriously I wish we had a more comprehensive sex education program in the U.S. You know how many guys I know who had no idea an unaroused vagina is only 2-3 inches deep? Or that the cervix raises up when aroused to accommodate dick? Or that if a girl is “tight” that generally means she’s not turned on and you’re shitty in bed? Or that the cervix has an entire cycle it goes through throughout the month where is changes hardness, placement in the vagina, wetness? Like, when you’re ovulating your cervix gets soft and raises high up into the vagina and your hormones get you really horny. It’s like natures way of moving the furniture around and fluffing the pillow for dick because it wants to get pregnant. And before menstruation, it gets really hard and low in the vagina. It’s basically inactivating it’s Facebook and saying “I just need some alone time for a few days”

Helpful things for action writers to remember

Sticking a landing will royally fuck up your joints and possibly shatter your ankles, depending on how high you’re jumping/falling from. There’s a very good reason free-runners dive and roll. 

Hand-to-hand fights usually only last a matter of seconds, sometimes a few minutes. It’s exhausting work and unless you have a lot of training and history with hand-to-hand combat, you’re going to tire out really fast. 

Arrows are very effective and you can’t just yank them out without doing a lot of damage. Most of the time the head of the arrow will break off inside the body if you try pulling it out, and arrows are built to pierce deep. An arrow wound demands medical attention. 

Throwing your opponent across the room is really not all that smart. You’re giving them the chance to get up and run away. Unless you’re trying to put distance between you so you can shoot them or something, don’t throw them. 

Everyone has something called a “flinch response” when they fight. This is pretty much the brain’s way of telling you “get the fuck out of here or we’re gonna die.” Experienced fighters have trained to suppress this. Think about how long your character has been fighting. A character in a fist fight for the first time is going to take a few hits before their survival instinct kicks in and they start hitting back. A character in a fist fight for the eighth time that week is going to respond a little differently. 

ADRENALINE WORKS AGAINST YOU WHEN YOU FIGHT. THIS IS IMPORTANT. A lot of times people think that adrenaline will kick in and give you some badass fighting skills, but it’s actually the opposite. Adrenaline is what tires you out in a battle and it also affects the fighter’s efficacy - meaning it makes them shaky and inaccurate, and overall they lose about 60% of their fighting skill because their brain is focusing on not dying. Adrenaline keeps you alive, it doesn’t give you the skill to pull off a perfect roundhouse kick to the opponent’s face. 

Swords WILL bend or break if you hit something hard enough. They also dull easily and take a lot of maintenance. In reality, someone who fights with a sword would have to have to repair or replace it constantly.

Fights get messy. There’s blood and sweat everywhere, and that will make it hard to hold your weapon or get a good grip on someone. 

A serious battle also smells horrible. There’s lots of sweat, but also the smell of urine and feces. After someone dies, their bowels and bladder empty. There might also be some questionable things on the ground which can be very psychologically traumatizing. Remember to think about all of the character’s senses when they’re in a fight. Everything WILL affect them in some way. 

If your sword is sharpened down to a fine edge, the rest of the blade can’t go through the cut you make. You’ll just end up putting a tiny, shallow scratch in the surface of whatever you strike, and you could probably break your sword. 

ARCHERS ARE STRONG TOO. Have you ever drawn a bow? It takes a lot of strength, especially when you’re shooting a bow with a higher draw weight. Draw weight basically means “the amount of force you have to use to pull this sucker back enough to fire it.” To give you an idea of how that works, here’s a helpful link to tell you about finding bow sizes and draw weights for your characters.  (CLICK ME)

If an archer has to use a bow they’re not used to, it will probably throw them off a little until they’ve done a few practice shots with it and figured out its draw weight and stability. 

People bleed. If they get punched in the face, they’ll probably get a bloody nose. If they get stabbed or cut somehow, they’ll bleed accordingly. And if they’ve been fighting for a while, they’ve got a LOT of blood rushing around to provide them with oxygen. They’re going to bleed a lot.

So the other day, I was thinking about the classic alignment chart, and how it doesn’t really do much for me personally since it’s more about how characters interact with systems rather than how they interact with other people

I had a minute, so I figured I’d throw something together that DID suit my needs!

(Note: This chart regards a character’s intent rather than the outcome of their actions—and for sake of clarity, here are the definitions I’m working with:

Good: concerned with the well-being the collective, often at expense of the self

Evil: concerned with the well-being of the self, often at the expense of the collective

Kind: concerned with the emotional responses of others

Cruel: unconcerned with the emotional responses of others)

I like conceptualizing things this way, cause sometimes Bad People behave with ‘good’ or ‘kind’ intentions, and sometimes Good People do things that seem ‘evil’ or ‘cruel’

Also this gives me a way to compare/contrast characters who get lumped together under the other system
