Can I just say something honestly and very seriously to all you writers?
With the Internet going down the "nothing adult, no death, no nothing. Make it kid friendly" route,
Please don't ever stop making art or writing wips that are gruesome, horror, other things like that. Don't let the Internet sanitize how you wanna tell a story. Channel your rage into your art and keep going and don't give up

a feel like the new generation of fanfic readers NEED to understand that clicking on a fic (interaction) does nothing. ao3 has no algorithm. your private discord discussions of fic do not reach the authors. if you do not actively engage with writers they will stop posting. this isn’t social media this is community.

Every unhinged fic writer needs an equally unhinged friend who "yes ands" their ideas and encourages them to write all their most far fetched and insane stories.

Tumblr is super big on the "I didn't say it was good, I said I liked it" but really need to discover the value in its opposite of "I didn't say it was bad, I said I hated it".
You can acknowledge that something is good, great, a masterpiece even, and just straight-up not enjoy it.

Idk if it's just me but it seems like there's a lot of people in fandom who think that every fandom related space or website should cater to them personally and then they act surprised when other people get annoyed at them for demanding that everyone else change and modify everything they create to not ruffle their eternally ruffled feathers. Fandom is for everyone, even if you don't personally like some of the people that participate in it, and nobody has the right to police who's allowed to enjoy a certain show, series, character, ship, or anything else related to fandom.

I hate the narrative around Generative AI that it's an "accessibility tool". It's not. And the people saying it have no idea what Generative AI or accessibility is. It's disgusting people are using disabilities and disorders to justify its use.
I don't know for how long I'll be able to put up with the "if you're against AI, you're ableist" bullshit.
(And 90% of the times the general public don't differentiate between analytical AI and generative AI. It's exhausting when there's always that someone who goes "AI HAS GOOD USES")

what's with the weird glorification of smoking that's come back lately
like
I've seen so many posts that paint opposing smoking as some impossibly Loser-ish or puritanical stance and I really don't get it
it makes you, your house, and your clothing stink, destroys your teeth, and gives you lung cancer. opposing it is. Correct. obviously addiction is very complicated and quitting can be hard, but just saying "smoking is gross and harmful as a practice (including vaping)" is True and Right actually
some of you have never grown up hearing about how some beloved family member died a slow, agonized, wasting death of smoking-induced cancer, or watching it firsthand for yourself, and it shows

Pretending you're fine when people cross your boundaries doesn't make you a really nice person, it just makes you a really shitty communicator. Far too many people pride themselves on being "too nice" when it's just that they have zero conflict resolution skills and will seethe in resentment for months instead of articulating the problem

“On Tuesday, the Democratic National Committee served tacos outside the Republican National Committee’s headquarters—a nod to a trendy new acronym spelling out “Trump always chickens out.” If the point was to push a slogan that works perfectly in one area (tariffs, where the president is constantly ramping up and backing down) and less perfectly in several others (immigration and general authoritarianism, where the president is running roughshod over the rule of law), then perhaps it was mildly successful. Still, the endeavor was most notable because of a comment from Vice President JD Vance: “We have,” he tweeted, “the lamest opposition in American history.” On this—and perhaps this alone—it’s hard to disagree with the vice president. […] America has never needed an effective opposition party as badly as it needs one now; instead we have the most feckless Democratic leaders of the past 100 years.”

Star Wars fans who hate age gap ships are so funny to me. Han and Leia are at least 10 years apart in the OT. They are canonically married soon after Episode 6, in which Leia is 23. Padme is 5 years older than Anakin AND they meet as kids (14 and 9). Anakin is a teen groom in Episode 2.
What did you think you were signing up for, here???

Idea for a Pokemon Status Condition: Infection
Think of it like a non-lethal form of rabies.
So you know how in some games, Pokemon above a certain level will ignore you as a Trainer until you reach a certain point in the game? Infection plays with that a bit. An infected pokemon doesn't just ignore the Trainer. It turns on the Trainer! As the player, you either have the option to send another Pokemon out to defend yourself, or to run away. This determines what happens next.
1) Send another Pokemon in: if the defending Pokemon causes the infected Pokemon to faint, the infected Pokemon can go back into its PokeBall and be taken to a Pokemon Center for healing. This cures the infection. BUT: there is a small chance that landing a direct hit on the infected Pokemon will cause the infection to spread. Think of it like Static or Poison Point.
2) Run Away (or lose the battle against the infected Pokemon): the infected Pokemon roams. It travels back to the nearest wild area where you caught/obtained it (so a Kanto Starter would go to the grasslands outside Pallet Town). This is where you have to go to get your Pokemon back. You don't have to catch it again, but making it faint will return it to the PokeBall you had been using to store your once loyal teammate. Once in the ball, it can be healed at a Pokemon Center. Do this if you don't have a team with super effective moves against the infected Pokemon, perhaps.
Either infection is part of an evil team's plan to ruin other Trainers' days, or it's an naturally occuring disease that the region hasn't figured out how to cure yet. The only other thing I have to add is that Pokemon with high Friendship resist infection while Pokemon with low Friendship (who hate their Trainer) are more likely to suffer the infection. You can also attempt to help other trainers faint their infected Pokemon so they can be healed (with the obvious risk the infection spreads to your Pokemon).
What do you think? Can you imagine a Pokemon ROMhack with this mechanic?

Death Note and Ace Attorney are two takes on the same concept
Let me explain:
It is Y2K-era Japan. You want to write a social commentary on the nation's judicial system through the lens of a young male protagonist assisted heavily in his pursuit of justice for all people by a companion spirit who provides supernatural assistance and tidbits of knowledge the protagonist could not acquire through natural means. The story spends a lot of time sifting through the protagonist's sarcastic internal monologue and questioning whether his individual methods of pursuing justice could actually cause more injustice to fester.
The protagonist's rival is another young prodigy who upholds the status quo of the judicial system for (at first) purely personal reasons. Somebody dies in just about every episode, and a great deal of time and energy is spent pursuing the killer. Entire arcs are dedicated to the moral repugnance of corporate greed and how little it takes to convince people used to wealth and status to kill in order to maintain their position. These stories have been immensely popular for the 20+ years since inception, and adaptations of each include manga, anime, movies, and musicals in both Japanese and English.
It took me a long time to realize this, but my two middle school obsessions had a lot in common. The main thing keeping me from this epiphany was tone: Ace Attorney is far more intentionally comedic. They also have vastly different ideas of what the problem in the (then) modern judicial system and society's view of crime were, but that's a post for another time.
