Mike and Dustin should not have gone to the basketball game.

Hellfire was working on that campaign all semester. If they couldn't beat it without one player, they would have been handily obliterated without three.

Best case scenario they lose all standing with Hellfire. Worst case, they get kicked out. Either way they lose the social footing they built.

Knowingly or not, Lucas wasn't just asking them to go to a game. He was asking them to make the same social shift he had.

All three boys were going through it. Lucas with racism, Mike with depression, and Dustin with whatever happened to his dad. Different issues with different solutions.
