Elliott was used to waking up alone. Shane tended to get out of bed early. He was the one to see to the animals, to make Jas breakfast and get her on her way.

Sometimes, though, he woke before Shane did.

Like today. The room was dim in the rainy morning light. The bed was soft underneath him, dipping towards Shane’s form. Elliott stretched, sighed, rolled to wrap his arm around Shane’s stomach. A slight shift in the pattern of his breathing told Elliott he was waking up, but he didn’t say anything yet. That was okay. He was warm, smelled all earthy and deep, like the creatures they both were underneath.

“Morning,” Elliott murmured, running his nose over the back of Shane’s neck.

Shane grunted something that might have resembled a greeting. Elliott exchanged his nose for his mouth, soft kisses on soft skin, hair tickling his nose. Shane smelled like pomegranates, up close to his scalp. Elliott considered if the rush of pleasure the aroma gave him was the same a dog may feel when it got its scent on something else.

“Y’smellin me?”

Shane was adorable when he was sleepy, and Elliott told him so. A scoff, then a choked off sound of surprise as Elliott reached lower. And yes, just as he’d hoped, something there to wrap his hand around. Hot and hard, and Shane shivered at the way he squeezed.

“Busy day today?” Elliott kept his voice casual, tried not to let the sound of his smile come through as Shane thrust his hips into his hands.

No response, just a grinding backwards, and of course Elliott was in a similar state. How could he not be, with how good it felt to push himself up against Shane’s ass. And perhaps Shane had the right idea. Talking seemed superfluous when he could just move, just shift and squeeze and let the tension in his belly rise. Sounds threatened to spill out as his pleasure rose, but he kept them to himself: the walls in the ranch were thin.

But still. They were in their own little world, an island of private calm before they started their day. Elliott would have stayed there forever, if he could, would have carried that moment with him into the rest of his existence, but such things can’t last. Shane would come, and so would he, and there would be showers and fresh clothes, breakfasts and kisses on the cheeks. But just for then, and maybe for just a moment more, they could be the two of them together, and the day would just have to wait its turn.

So, I'm new to the sdv fandom, and you're the first consistent content creator I've found and I'm so absolutely in love with your art!!! Been following the comic for about 2 weeks now. Do you have any rec for other creators in this fandom that I should check out as well? (Also, definitely not me refreshing Tumblr every 5 mins waiting for PT 39 to drop, definitely not-- 😳)

It wasn’t something they planned, their entanglement. At least not as far as Elliott was concerned. Who knew what went on in Shane’s mind?

It’d come as such things tend to do, from beer and cold nights and loneliness and fatigue. The matter of who started it, of who kissed who, of whose hand wandered first, of who first made the noise that said “I want more…”

Immaterial.

What mattered was the way Shane’s mouth felt against his neck after they’d stumbled through the cabin door. Suction and sandpaper, a mark to cover up with a high-collared shirt the next day.

Shane was smaller than him, but stronger. Drunker. Elliott may have been able to stop him as he shoved him up against the wall. He didn’t bother though. He liked how warm Shane was in the cold of his cabin. Hair all short and course under Elliott’s hand. Beer on his breath as he groaned into his neck. Hand rough as it palmed at Elliott’s pants.

It’d been a while since Elliott had been touched.

That must have been why it was so easy to let it happen, to welcome the teeth, the grip that was hard enough to make him wince, a jerking motion that had his head knocking back against the wall, a groan from deep in his stomach filling the small space.

“Yeah.” Shane’s voice was slurred, uneven. “Yeah, you fucking like that, don’t you?”

Elliott felt himself twitch at the words, the raw way they were spoken. He was building up quickly, far too quickly, but Shane’s hand was a vise, his mouth too good as it reached up to where Elliott’s jaw met his ear, and there was no choice but to fall apart where he stood.

He would have returned the attention, but Shane was already moving away, out the door without a word, and Elliott was left alone. Alone with his papers and his books, with his hairbrush and his vests. Alone with his desk and his piano and his heart, hammering away deep deep down inside his chest.
