Thinking about how gnomes would navigate the modern world.
I think they'd love old fashioned diners, drinking all the coffee and tea and would eat a lot of eggs. Omelettes would be a big deal. Also would like pancakes and waffles.
Gnome figurines would trip them out.
Building cute little houses in mostly uninhabited areas. Probably out in the country or at least in a pretty park somewhere.
Helping the humans garden, if they knew they could be trusted.
Would absolutely go to a craft store and get supplies make their own clothes/shoes.
Humans have tobacco stores?
Collecting crystals because they're pretty.
They'd love antiques.
Electricity? Fascinating but totally strange to them.
Churches and Mosques or Synagogues might make some of them curious but they'd be floored by how big our various places of worship are.
Riding the bus. They'd either walk everywhere they go or some of them might try catching a bus. Crossing the street involves sticking with crowds because they're small.
They'd try to use rocks or crystals as bus fare.
TV would be weird.
Hobby horses and kids bikes and toy cars. Gnomes would try to ride/drive some of these.
Building things. They'd have a whole space dedicated to making things out of wood, brick or stone.
If they figure out technology, gnomes being made and people buying/selling gnome figurines would also be weird. Eventually they'd figure out they weren't actually gnomes that were alive. The popularity would seem strange since no one knew gnomes actually existed for years.
They'd try to coexist with us, but they would think a lot of us were really strange.
Politics would be totally lost on them.
They'd sneak into people's gardens to either tend them or get fruits and vegetables.
This is just based on if gnomes were existing in modern day America. Feel free to add things from your country/area of the world.
