Someone is very very angry with the hoomans in this house. They keep putting this granny cap on him and from the looks of it, it weighs his head down by about 1/2 his body weight. Labor Day Weekend memories include my Dad doing lawn keeping, my Mom canning, both of them freezing corn. Homesteading. . I don’t can (freeze a lot). And I live in a townhouse with an HOA. So this weekend I cooked. . Confit garlic to put on pasta, bread, steaks...everything. . Homemade sauce, with Italian sausage and chunks of pork. Pork in the sauce reminds me of my Grandmas sauce. . There is a little, pesky, cute, annoying striped gopher living on our patio (lives here every year). Today the dogs found it in the grill cabinet. I ended up opening the door and that quick, little thing shot over under the steps. I bribed the dogs inside with a treat, but they’re both at the window whining and scratching to go out. Nope. I believe my hubby is trying to kill me by a thousand cans. Each can of sparkling water this week has looked similar. My Mom is a 21 year genetic breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with stomach cancer last month. Currently it’s Stage 1. She had a port placed and will start chemo. Then a surgery to remove her stomach, and possibly more chemo and radiation. . She’s also still experiencing chronic back issues with discs slipping. . If you say prayer, express wishes into the universe, engage in mindfulness, could you include my Mom? Welcome to my TED Talk: . There’s a difference in chronic pain and acute pain. Acute pain starts for a reason and is cured within about a week after treatment. Chronic pain lasts 3+ months and is never cured. The pain goes up and down the scale, with a ‘normal’ in the 3/4 range. . When you (general you) say you have a high pain tolerance, you are speaking about acute pain; pain that is short lived and is eventually cured. Chronic pain is very different. . Please don’t brag to a chronic pain patient that you have a ‘high pain tolerance.’ The chronic pain patient is living with daily pain that may be lowered with treatment, but never go away. Their tolerance may be high also, but after 3+ months, the chronic pain morphs into something different. .
