you know what i want in a book? screw the morally grey villains, screw the orphan hero’s and the “plot twist, the hero and villain are related” trope; I want a story where the Protagonist and Antagonist (named as such for this post) want the exact same thing, maybe ever for different reasons. I want Antagonist to capture Protagonist, or the other way around, and when one reaches the end of their speech, the other looks to them and just goes.. “You’re lying.. We can’t want the same thing, i’m supposed to hate you! YOU are MY OPPOSITE.” and just loses their shit. Maybe they fight, they both can’t believe that the other wants the same thing, until they realize (over less than an hour or multiple days) there is a better was to deal with it..

They both team against the True Antagonist. The one thing or person or group they both hate. The People don’t know what happened, one captured the other and now both are missing, The People are both hopeful that Protagonist has won and scared that Protagonist has lost. but Antagonist and Protagonist both work in secret, teaming up to take down what they’ve spited against for so long.

Bonus Points if:

- They end up together

and / or

- They have sidekicks that end up being together

- They end up moving in together after defeating True Antagonist (even if they are close friends or more)

- They’re fighting styles combine in some way during battles (combo moves, distraction + melee, etc)

- Their sidekicks team up to save them from something

- The People hate that Antagonist is alive until Protagonist appears next to them and shows that they’re nice

- Antagonist bandages up Protagonist after a fight BEFORE it is revealed that they should team up (i.e Antagonist goes too far and cuts off Protagonists hand, so they bandage them up, because bleeding out isn’t a fair death, even for an enemy)

- Either Protagonist or Antagonist captures the other BEFORE it is revealed they should work together, and the whole time Protagonist is interrogating them their sidekick is getting a chapter to themselves (wether it’s about them saving Antagonist or doing their own thing)
