“This is just my perception, but I think that the economy has an influence on what kind of designs become popular. There are certain types of characters that are needed in times of recession, and there are types of characters that are embraced only when the economy is booming.” As an example, Hosoi cites the often-heard theory that people start to favor voluptuous body types and motherly characteristics in women during times of economic recession. He goes on to confirm that these kinds of considerations influenced certain aspects of Ryza’s design. While her thick thighs and voluminous chest are obviously the first thing that comes to mind, Ryza is also very “girl next door,” with a bubbly personality and uncomplicated, approachable design, which seems to reflect what Hosoi is talking about.

With plans for playable female characters and a choice of ethnicity on the horizon (you can only create white male characters at the moment), I expect the vitriol to get worse. The Mordhau team seem to expect that too, and say their current plan is to let players 'disable' these new options if they want. "That goes back to a similar situation as the chat filters," Geach says. "Whatever stance we take officially, some group of people are going to be upset with us. And so, ideally we’d put the power in the players’ hands, and give them the option to enable and disable different things.

The world and the events that Noctis sees are merely things that are seen through his eyes. We didn’t want to create a comprehensive and perfectly balanced story in this game. Instead, we placed importance on the main characters and for the player and Noctis to share the same experience when we tell the story
It’s not that we decreased the role of the side characters. Focusing on many characters in the game means that the allocation given to the main characters will decrease. Instead of creating a comprehensive and perfectly balanced story, we placed greater importance on the four main characters and strived to depict a world seen from their perspective.

It quickly became clear however Harry never acted like a masculine character. He was constantly dizzy, fainting, talking to himself, screaming and in fact was very vulnerable. We didn't want to betray the nature of the game by changing the character's feelings and motivations, so we felt it was better to change to a female protagonist and retain all those important qualities. I don't want people to think that I have been "politically correct" because we changed Harry into Rose. There is no political correctness in Silent Hill.

The story I’m telling is really about androids. … They’re discovering emotions and wanting to be free. If people want to see parallels with this or that, that’s fine with me. But my story’s about androids who want to be free.

We got a lot of comments about the jiggle and the bounce, but to be honest with you, that’s something that is part of the genes of the DOA series, so it’s not gone entirely. We’ve taken an approach where it’s more realistic and natural. We just wanted to clarify that. It’s not how people think of it. It’s just toned down.

(Context: DOA6 wants to be taken as a serious competitive fighting game by toning down the sexuality, but it turns out they weren’t committed to their cause after all!)

A lot of players asked us to "bring back Chloe" after her release. We decided to follow the popular vote: Detroit’s next patch will allow you to acquire a brand new model (but your original Chloe will still be free).
Source: Twitter
(Context: Detroit is a game about robophobia as a thinly-veiled metaphor for racism and slavery. Chloe is an android that exists outside the story, hanging out in menus and providing tutorials and commentary. At the end of the game, she asks for freedom— which you can grant or deny. Agreeing to her request has her disappear from the menus for all subsequent playthroughs. Quantic Dream patching her back in is… in keeping with their metaphor, like providing a new slave to replace you old one. Progressive!)

We had to delay the release date of Warhammer 40,0000: Inquisitor – Martyr to 5 June (2018)
…
We promise we’ll push this extra three weeks in 90+ hours per week so it’ll be very-very useful for Martyr.

In response to allegations of an unhealthy studio culture— sexism, homophobia and racism— at Quantic Dream, and which David Cage is said to have contributed to:
You want to talk about homophobia? I work with Ellen Page, who fights for LGBT rights. You want to talk about racism? I work with Jesse Williams, who fights for civil rights in the USA... Judge me by my work.

There was actually a female Robot Master at the concept stage [for Mega Man 11], but when we paired up all the different weapons, she was one of the Robot Masters that didn't make the cut. We definitely feel like there are plenty of opportunities to add female Robot Masters in the future. This is one of those things where we feel like it's all about what fits best for each occasion, and there are those occasions where a female would be more appropriate than a male.

… Coupled with that, we originally made her [Tae Takemi] look extremely unapproachable, with the eyes of a killer. However, we received a request from Director Hashino that "all female characters should basically be on the cute side," and eventually softened the design.
… Things went smoothly after we locked down her [Ichiko Ohya's] character, but the first images drawn were not all that cute, so Director Hashino suggested that we "make her cuter" and strongly demanded that we "stop drawing nostrils on her."
I wouldn't have imagined our team could make her [Sadayo Kawakami] so cute, but they did a great job!

Addressing the story and scenario of Persona 3 in relation to later games, Hashino says: "With the way that game's world worked, it was okay for the protagonist to be female. With Persona 4, though, we needed the character to come from a big city to a small country town to be the driving force of the story, and it seemed more natural for a male character to fulfill that role. There are story aspects to this decision, as well."

So, twenty-five years have passed, and we have made a lot of Zelda titles. In the beginning, Link was just a bunch of pixelated dots, and now he is a hero who appears fearless, capable of realistic and free movement. Ganon has turned into a powerful archvillain, and Zelda, an incredibly beautiful woman.

This isn’t specific to Shin Megami Tensei IV, but to the core Shin Megami Tensei in general. Because the game is more about survival, on average male figures have a better chance to survive than females that’s why the games lean towards more male characters. Of course, there are very strong females, strong willed and females with strong physique, that survive, so we hand pick a few of those strong female archetypes to represent the female side.

On the reviews, honestly I thought some of the reviews were a little harsh in terms of their view on the game. [...] I didn't try to tell anybody that it was a ten. I think we knew, as with any games, that there are certain things… if we started from the beginning and we knew what we'd get, there's a couple of things we would've done slightly differently. But we're very proud of how the game ended up. And I think seven, eight, nine, like anywhere in there is fine. Three or four… I mean somebody gave Forza Horizon 3 a four. I think there's certain reviews that are written more to get clicked on than they are to actually accurately reflect the quality of the game, and that kind of bums me out.

Fuck indie games. They think they can corrupt what I made into faux hipster art.
Walking simulators are not games, they're propaganda pretending to be art, and nobody questions is [sic] it because vlambeer made one good game.
