Adopted kids don’t always grow up feeling like they belong. Sometimes there’s this quiet gap between you and the world. There's just this kind of disconnect. You’re in the picture, but you’re not really part of it.
Ace felt that all his life. He didn’t have anyone to truly anchor him. Yes, he had Dadan and the mountain bandits but it’s not the same as having someone who looks at you and says, you’re loved and you’re enough. Like he was allowed to exist without having to earn it or explain it. He never really had that.
From the time he was a kid, he walks around life thinking maybe, just maybe, if someone loves him enough, then that means he deserves to live. If someone really wants him, then maybe he’s allowed to be here. That’s his baseline. That’s how low the bar was set for him.
That’s why he clung to Luffy the way he did. Because Luffy gave that to him without question. That was his first role, his first real identity.
A big brother.
That’s the first time he thought maybe I can be something good. Maybe I can be someone worth keeping.
And that flashback after Marineford when they’re kids? That scene absolutely wrecked me. After they rescued Luffy, Ace asked Luffy if he really needs him that much. Luffy nods. Ace knew he honestly meant it purely and wholeheartedly. Then Ace follows it up with, “do you want me to be alive?” and istg, I just had to stop reading.
What kind of kid thinks like that? What kind of CHILD needs to ask that?
I had to take a break after that and stare at the ceiling to take that all in. Because I know, we know how it ends. And that question hits completely differently when you already know what’s coming.
Even after all that, he still couldn’t see himself. He saw his worth through Luffy’s eyes. Like if Luffy needed him, then fine, he’d live for that. Who is Ace if he isn’t needed by someone else? It even shows in one of his goals as he was sailing as a pirate captain. He wanted to find and meet Shanks because he just needed to thank him for saving his beloved and naughty little brother.
I think that’s also what made Whitebeard so important. For the first time, someone saw him without a name or title. Just Ace. He didn’t have to prove anything or earn his place. He even tried to kill Whitebeard multiple times but was reciprocated with space and agency. And in that crew for once, he had people he could lean on. Not someone who needed him, but someone he needed.
And Marineford was the cruelest part. Because in that moment, when everything was crumbling, he finally saw it. Saw how much people loved him and what he meant to others. It wasn’t something he had to earn. They were there because their bonds were genuine.
That’s why he’s so sensitive. Why he’s always trying to protect the people he loves. Because he knows how heavy it is to feel unwanted and uncared for.
In the end, as painful as it was, I think he died happy. Pretty ironic that the day he died was the day he finally knew and understood he deserves to live. That his life wasn’t as worthless as he thought.

Made you the villain
Evil for just moving on
I see your shadow
I see it even with the lights off
I made a promise, if in four months this feeling ain't gone
Well, fuck this city, I'm movin' to Saskatchewan
I'm at the edge of learning how to make an edit because this is word for word what Buggy did and I'm already imagining an edit of them with this song.
Went to East Blue by himself and made up a story of why he hates Shanks and why they're not friends anymore. He can't even escape him because unfortunately for him Shanks became infamous enough to be one of the Yonkos.
'Til I can break routine during foreplay
And trust myself that I won’t say your name
But, I'm still counting down all of the days
'Til you're just another girl on the subway
Shanks broke the routine and can't count anymore because he lost his arm LMAOOO

wow.... i cant believe they were abandoned and Luffy collected them like treasures.....
the rest of the strawhats/friends that were gonna be in this post but i decided against it
Not all of them were abandoned by individual people like family members and their community, but the government. Specifically Franky and Law.
Vivi was gonna be in there too but i couldnt,,,, really,,,,, fit her in there.

I saw another creator get harassed again for shipping and here's my take:
I personally think powerscaling and shipping are just two sides of the same coin. Both are forms of imaginative engagement, each focusing on a different aspect of the story. You like a certain part of the story and then you use your own imagination to expand on it. Powerscaling fans love thinking about who would win in a fight, how strong someone really is or what would happen if two characters clashed. Shipping do the same thing but with feelings and character bonds. They're just fleshing out the emotional side. I think it’s both the same thing really. You like the story, so you build on it in your head. Fill in the gaps to make it more fun for you and others.
So what's with the constant harassment?
I think a lot of guys just suck at dealing with emotions or reading between the lines, so when character dynamics get a bit deep or complicated, they kinda just check out. They feel left out or confused when the convo isn’t just about surface-level stuff. Shipping happens when fans see a connection between characters and want to explore it more. Shippers enjoy the tension, the care, the drama, whatever. It’s not even always romantic, sometimes it's just building on something that’s already there.
But some dudes can’t process that kind of emotional stuff, so their first reaction is to hate on it and act like shippers killed their entire family. They want everything to just be simple friendship that's why you hear the same sentiment, "why can't characters just be friends?" constantly. They want to boil it down to it's simplest form of relationship so they can get it. It’s not that deep to them, so they get mad when it is for other fans.
I mean, they can still do that, no? Nobody's stopping them from enjoying it. Enjoying a ship doesn’t mean they're undermining platonic relationships. Just like how some people enjoy their eggs raw in rice with chili oil, that doesn’t suddenly make sunny side ups any worse. It's just another way of enjoying a story.
I know I'm generalizing, but that's just how I see it.

i’ve been laughing at this comment for way too long. it shouldn't be this funny
someone was saying Robin has the second greatest wanderlust on the crew after Luffy, and someone else jokingly chimed in saying it's Zoro.
and then this was the reply

everyone keeps acting like shanks is this free spirit. “carefree pirate” my ass. when it came down to it, he chose the world. like what gaban said, he's the “destined man.” the great red-haired savior or whatever the fuck. he'd always chose the big picture.
buggy wasn’t the world, buggy wasn't even in the picture. so he didn’t get picked.
don’t forget robin was given the same choice. iceberg told her that her surrender could destroy the world and what did she say? she said fuck the world then, gg. the strawhats gave her something the world never did. a reason to live and she said fuck it, i’m choosing them.
shanks couldn’t possibly do that. because the world never hated him. it handed him a lot. power, legacy, birthright, everything. he was a lucky man. I mean he shined the most even as a kid. he doesn’t know what it’s like to have to choose between the world and one person. and if he does, he clearly failed that test.
so when he stands there saying “i wanted to be carefree pirates together,” it’s a joke. like bro, you can’t talk about freedom when you’ve never picked it. buggy was right when he said he's a coward. because he truly is.
you don’t get to cry about not being free while standing on the throne you chose.
fuck that mf

buggy literally threw everything away because shanks existed. his dream, his pride, his confidence, his self-worth, his ambition. all of it. he saw shanks shine and just decided he didn’t deserve to stand next to that. he just accepted that he was the side character in his own life. and u know what's the messed up part? buggy made peace with it. it was hard but he let go of everything he ever wanted because shanks was there.
and then shanks had the audacity to act like that never happened. like buggy was just chilling all those years, not sitting on top of all the shit he buried for shanks’ sake. like buggy didn’t spend his whole life convincing himself he wasn’t worthy to be at the top so he settled at the steps.
when shanks just says he’s not going after the one piece just like that. that felt like a slap. like it’s no big deal or that it doesn’t matter. like buggy didn’t throw his whole life away thinking at least shanks would go and find it for the both of them.
and now he’s just supposed to accept that too? to just dig it all back up? shanks acting like they’re the same. like they’re still equals. like buggy didn’t already lose. like buggy didn’t already throw everything in the trash and repurposed his ambition to loyalty.
because even if it wasn’t all shanks’ fault on why he chose the plot or the lore or saving the world or whatever the fuck. at the end of the day, it still means he didn’t choose buggy.
and that’s what’s unfair. shanks at least had a choice, buggy didn't have anything left. buggy literally crushed his own pride under his own feet just to keep standing next to him. and shanks choosing something else on top of that felt like spit.
then shanks had the audacity to ask him to join him too? it was fucked up. it was fucking disrespectful. like how dare you? buggy trusted him to understand. especially him.
so buggy said fuck you then and left his ass.
