ok also michael’s plan to torture them for a thousand years wouldve worked if he’d just paired chidi and jason together and eleanor and tahani together as soul mates. eleanor and tahani.. hoo boy they’re self-explanatory but chidi and jason? chidi would have broken down day 1 from ‘wait my soulmate is a man? im attracted to men? wait is it homophobic of me to be surprised that my soulmate is a man? am i bisexual? am i gay? oh my god is that why none of my girlfriends worked out? did i lead women on bc i was too homophobic to realise my own sexuality? have i been in denial my whole life?’ and jason would have to contend with a beautiful jacked academic begging him for wisdom using words he’s never heard before in his life. and then they (chidi+jason and eleanor+tahani) kiss

IMO the Brooklyn 99 premier fell way too hard into the telling, not showing camp.

You know at first I was really worried that the new season of Brooklyn nine nine would be insensitive or just hard to watch when I saw the first few minutes, and I will admit the humor is definitely going through a bit of an awkward transitional phase, but the emotional scenes have been so effective. Particularly the scene where Holt opens up to Amy and the end of episode one.

Seeing everyone freak out about a storm warning interrupting the b99 premier makes me feel better about the fact that my shitty tv keeps blacking out for a second every like two minutes

crime shows are like “this character is being obnoxious and causing problems by not letting police enter somewhere without a warrant, you know, like what the law says” and everyone just lets them

I find I have to mention this to people a lot: the way to check your own fandom racism or anti-blackness isn’t how you react to the flawless POC characters, but how you react when POC characters have flaws.
Like, I’ve known people who tear down Simone from The Good Place, and when I pointed out that none of her flaws are even close to those of Eleanor, from season one or even currently, and suggested that they should consider whether biases are influencing their hatred for the character, they cited their love for Shuri from Black Panther, and characters like her. Shuri is not a hard character to love; she never challenges the audience to see her in a complex way. She is funny, smart, and never burdensome to anyone.
Myself, I hated Katara from Avatar when I was younger. Now, I am able to identify the internalized misogyny and racism in my dislike for her; I hated her because she was inconvenient at times and wasn’t always nice to the characters I liked. Similar deal with Frank Zhang from Heroes of Olympus. But both of those characters (and all characters) were significant for what they represented.
Fandom racism isn’t just hating POC characters for no reason or ignoring POC ships; it also manifests in the double-standard where we’re willing to forgive white characters for more things than POC characters.

Those jokes about Chidi being bisexual because “you think that man could choose just one gender??” are funny and all, but I will say it’s awfully bold of y’all to assume Chidi would be confident enough to pick a label.
That man weighs the ethical ramifications of various soups, there is no way he is not constantly questioning his sexuality.

The only time subverting expectations has worked effectively in modern media was season 1 of The Good Place and Knives Out (2019)
if i hear the words "subvert expectations" one more time i'm gonna start hunting directors for sport

Eleanor and Chidi in the first half of season 2 of The Good Place
“we were lovers in a past life” trope but the current incarnations are enemy-to-lovers trope. when.

Big Warning
If you see a police car or a cop with a speaker looking thing on it, FUCKING RUN. It’s known as an LRAD (Long Range Acoustic Device), a device that, when activated, can permanently damage your hearing and cause serious harm. If you’re too close, you’ll be left in a lot of pain and squirming on the ground permanently deaf. Ear plugs do not work. Unless you have one of those shooting range headphones, you do not stand a chance against them. Again, if you see them pull up, RUN. This is what they look like.

I’m so excited for Andy’s Golden Globes nomination for Palm Springs because that movie was great and tbh pretty underrated, it just sucks because he probably won’t win because they’ll probably just have Hamilton win. Hamilton is amazing and Lin Manuel Miranda is great and all, I just wish Palm Springs had a real shot and didn’t get overshadowed.
Plus I think it’s pretty dumb that musicals and comedies are in the same category but whatever

I’m glad Dan Harmon didn’t write The Good Place, because then Eleanor and Michael would’ve been a couple, Jason x Janet would for sure be baited, Janet being non-binary would be actively denied, Brent would’ve been sympathized for, and the main running gag would be “Tahani is the worst”.
I also wish Mike Schur wrote Community, because then JeffxAnnie would’ve never happened, Trobed would be canon, Annie would be a lesbian, everyone would hate Pierce, and Britta would’ve actually been appreciated.
