i think there is beauty in soulmates, and beauty in rarity at the same time;
the fact that chidi and eleanor found eachother in every single universe and every single reboot is simply the most beautiful beautiful and epic love story
but i think it is equal beautiful how jake and amy would probably never found eachother if they were in slightly different circumstances, so how beautiful and unlikely that this life ended up happening and it's all they could have wanted.

I'm so emotional about the Judge's test for Eleanor and how she passes the test when she realizes that she's talking to an illusion of Chidi, not the real Chidi. Eleanor's big earthly flaw was that she was too selfish, and her test to go to the Good Place was whether she had overcome that selfishness enough to love someone else, deeply enough that she knew every tiny detail of their personality, down to the littlest idiosyncrasies that could tip her off that she was talking to an illusion. her test was whether she could love someone. HER TEST WAS WHETHER SHE COULD LOVE SOMEO

Religious Trauma Comfort Character #2: Michael (The Good Place)
Hello! Here is the second post in my series about comfort characters for when you're dealing with religious trauma. Read the first post here: https://www.tumblr.com/acesfavoritecomfortcharacters/757928890373144576/religious-trauma-comfort-character-1-hunter-the?source=share
Our second character is Michael from The Good Place.

(spoilers for the good place)
Michael was an employee for the Bad Place who wanted nothing more than impress his boss, Shawn, and the other demons he worked with. Michael was happy being a demon and torturing people until some of the demons turned against him and he had to work with the main characters, the good guys. Michael begins a redemption arc, and has to entirely rethink his worldview, especially on things like morality, mortality, and his identity. His arc ends with him becoming a human, living out his own mortal life and finding fulfillment in the little things.
While Michael may not have the same conventional religious trauma like our last character, Hunter, his story strikes a similar chord. From the very beginning of his existence, he was told that there was one way to do things. Following these traditions got him approval from his peers, but he was always different, and he eventually gains his independence away from those people.
Michael has to confront a massive change in worldview. He has to confront the fact that he is capable of dying, that there is an end. As Eleanor puts it:
youtube
"All humans are aware of death. So we're all a little bit sad... all the time. That's just the deal."
Confronting death can be one of the hardest things when coming out of a religion, because pretty much all religions involve an afterlife. So Michael's realization that there may be a complete and final end is a very real thing to go through.
And it's not just mortality, but morality that Michael reconsiders, too. Things he used to think are ok (like literal hell) he realizes are unjust.
And Michael has to seriously re-think his identity. He used to define himself as someone striding for achievement in the business of torture, but now, he is a new person. He feels a lot of shame when confronted with his past, but through the support of his friends, he can learn to love himself.
Michael, although obviously he has a lot different story than your average ex-religious human, is a very comforting character for me. Honestly, The Good Place is just a major comfort show. I recommend it for anyone dealing with religious trauma, anyone who has emotions, anyone who is capable of breathing. Just watch it.
