Jamaican Fashion Designer Rocks the Lakes

Si_Mee_Collections held their 1st Annual Colors of Life Fundraising Event honoring the 58 Lives Lost and Refuge for Women at Reflection Bay Golf Club in Lake Lase Vegas on November 18, 2017.

The evening kicked off with a soulful musical salute by Reggie Gonzales. The evening then turned up when the Master of Ceremonies for the event, Michael Susara introduced the featured fashion designer, Rosemarie Macklin of Si_Mee_Collections for the first runway show of the evening. Rosemarie surprised the guests in attendance with LA Models One Strut who ripped the runway in designs that are a preview for her upcoming Vancouver Fashion Week in March 2018.

Karen Diers, the City Director for Refuge for Women spoke and emphasized the cause of her meaningful work to provide a safe house for women who have been rescued from human trafficking and sexual exploitation. This program offers healing to victims of sex trafficking by providing a safe place to heal and recover, and to eventually integrate them back into society, over the course of a 12 month program. Connie Breeze of 105.7 looking fabulous in a custom Si_Mee design, also provided an inspirational speech honoring the 58 Lives Lost in October.

Although the purpose of the event was to raise money for two serious causes, it was still a celebration of life, symbolized by the name of the event “Colors of Life”. As Rosemarie says, "putting back the colors into our lives as we move forward to forget the darkness of October 1st." Featuring live music by King Ibu, live canvas model painting, and food and dancing. The event also showcased two other local Las Vegas designers Blazzian Collections and Agrevancia, who featured their designs on the runway along with accessory designer a Little Bling.

Between attendance fees and the live and silent auction the event raised money to contribute to the fund for families of the 58 lives lost and Refuge for Women. The event was successful on so many levels thanks to the generosity of several sponsors: Reflection Bay Golf Club, Sunset Station Casino, Hilton Lake Law Vegas, Hugs Wine, Napa Valley Wine Train, Bradford Portraits, Sonrisa Grill, One 5 Lake Side, The Chocolate Factory, Seasons Grocery, Mis En Bouteille, LaDonna’s Legendary Lifestyle, Kalene Walker and many more who came on board last minute and who just felt compelled to do something. It is with such collaborations and unity that small business owners need to keep supporting each other and provide real meaningful networking events that will benefit one another financially and socially. One without the other is meaningless.

Event organizer Rosemarie Macklin said “after the success of this event, I’m already making plans for the 2nd Annual Colors of Life Fundraiser" where she will encourage each attendee to wear any type of white clothing and the guests will be encouraged to paint each other. The goal is to make this a true interactive evening that will symbolize the meaning of the "Colors of Life
