"Thank you sir." Eren stood there, eyes fixed on the floor. “But sir, as much as I’m honored to join the survey corps. I’m still not satisfied, my main goal is to wipe out the titans I’m just a step closer to that. I am not going to slow down and appreciate what I’ve done till I achieve my goal sir.” It was still too early to celebrate, true he was one step closer but still far away. His fist clenched, it’s still too early to be satisfied.
—————— [ ♞ ] ——————
Only a true fool would assume that their long path had already
ended or would end anytime soon.
Not only the massive amount of paperwork on Erwin's desk
or the heavy losses they still had to suffer no matter what
decision they made was speaking for their current path.
Sacrifices over sacrifices - and not all of them were truly necessary
for a simple move on the chess board.
The game humanity was currently playing against their strongest
opponent, maybe fate itself, was not easily decided by one
simple move.
It was quite fortunate that someone as young as Eren was also
capable of seeing the reality as such; although there existed
no one within the Survey Corps who lacked this common sense.
They all had seen the reaper on the battlefield; all were well
aware of the position humanity was in.
One could not avoid their fate, but they could fight against it bravely.
This was the sole reason the Survey Corps existed until now -
why they still sought to fight for those who had died many
years ago for a dream which might be never fulfilled.
Against all odds, someday they'll reach an end for sure -
yet the fate itself was uncertain about its outcome.
Bᴜᴛ ᴅᴇsᴘɪᴛᴇ ʟɪᴠɪɴɢ ɪɴ ᴛʜɪs ᴠᴇɪʟ ᴏғ ᴜɴᴄᴇʀᴛᴀɪɴᴛʏ﹐
ɴᴏ ᴏɴᴇ ᴛʜᴇᴍ ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅ ғᴀʟᴛᴇʀ.
Recognizing Eren's clenched fists as symbol of his
determination but also insecurity, the older man pondered for
one brief moment.
»We might never reach our goal, however.
In the eyes of the nobles you're an outlaw with your
terrifying abilities, so your dedication to our task is certainly
the most efficient way to keep you free of any objections.
They will probably never lift any of the accusations regarding
your loyalty to mankind - yet this is only another reason to
fight for what you truly believe in.
In the end the whole Survey Corps are only outlaws in the
eyes of the majority of the parliament.
You should keep that in mind.«

【 .kleiner Vogel. 】
Even without details, Levi had learned along the way to trust Erwin’s judgement. He didn’t ever ask questions unless he truly wanted to know something or felt the need to ask the other. Slate hues had glanced at the folder, half tempted to ask to see it to at least get an over view glimpse of it but this situation was too unprepared and he knew it’d only waste time which was something they clearly didn’t have. Both of them? Levi hummed as he looked away. He wasn’t looking forward to working with the Military Police. They were nothing but pigs to him and useless. The Garrison he could handle, they understand what lay beyond the walls and they were true soldiers much like themselves.
Levi looked back at Erwin and his smiled just a bit,”Since when have I ever trusted their words?” It was a light joke between Captain and Commander. Erwin was always stressed and at any given moment Levi would try and lighten the mood of the other even by a little. The joking didn’t last long though as he nodded an okay. Levi was always prepared to take down anyone who get in their way, killing them was the last option but he could some damage without feeling guilty or remorse for them. Now that he thought about it, none of the branches ever had an unannounced gathering, was this a trick? Some kind of diversion?
"If it’s a trap of some kind I say we just have this outside. Some of our soldiers can be in hiding should we have to fight. If you’re always not trusting them, I sure as hell am not going to start trusting them. The downside to us getting prepared is that we don’t the time they will arrive. I saw we gather some recruits and direct small pairs of them to certain points around the fort. Better to be prepared for anything like you said and that includes being prepared for the worst."
—————— [ ♞ ] ——————
It was quite fortunate that Levi shared his distrust without any
complaint, although it was not very surprising, either.
Considering his past the other man had reason enough to distrust
any given decision by nobles within the Walls - and it was no
hidden secret that they indirectly also controlled the whole military.
The parliament was built mostly by the most wealthy, mighty noble
houses of humanity - and even the king was not capable to
ultimately destroy their opinion on those matters.
Knowing this, it was obvious enough that more likely a noble had
come up with a selfish plan for making profits.
Or was this finally the moment they took actions against the
Survey Corps by ignoring the final decision of the parliament?
No, they certainly didn't leave the safety of the inner walls just to
visit them in their headquarters.
There had to be a reason.
With the recent happenings around the Eren and the case of
Annie Leonhardt, their already wavering position had started
to become even more unsteady.
Tʜᴇʏ ᴅɪᴅɴ·ᴛ ᴛʀᴜsᴛ ᴛʜᴇᴍ ᴀɴʏᴍᴏʀᴇ ﹣
ᴛʜᴇɪʀ ʟᴏʏᴀʟᴛʏ ᴡᴀs ϙᴜᴇsᴛɪᴏɴᴇᴅ.
So, in the end they could only have two things in mind -
either to gather hidden information or to crush their seemingly
opposition by revoking their rights.
At least these possibilities would explain such haste and
strange actions of their superiors.
After all Erwin didn't expect to peacefully sip tea with the other
commanders surrounded by a dozen of unfamiliar soldiers who
were prepared to shot their guns at any given moment.
This would be certainly an ordeal.
By having barely any time, there was nothing the commander
could also do about it.
Yet there was one thing...
With an indescribable cold face expression Erwin nodded
towards Levi, acknowledging his suggestion.
»It will be necessary to make up teams of small pairs, yes -
but unfortunately we can't switch the conference room.
We can't raise any more suspicion than we already have.
It should be quite obvious that they don't trust us, so they'll
surely expect that we take counteractions.
This means we can't show any hostility, although the situation
is very risky for us.
There is an high possibility that I'll get captured, if the worst
scenario occurs, as well.
As long as I'm forced to visit the capital they have free hand
over the actions of the Survey Corps, if they doesn't want
to create any unnecessary ruckus within the military itself.
We've lost many sympathizer among the citizens over the
past years, and even more within the nobility.
It is only a matter of time when they deem us to be unnecessary.
With an titan shifter in our control we're dangerous to them -
and our actions are also against the law at times.
As you know my sense of justice is not the justice the parliament
wants to force on mankind - so I'm certainly on their list of
people they need to get rid of, in the end.
But I won't be their marionette in their sense of injustice and
imprisonment.
If the worst occurs, I want you to look after Eren and protect him.
He's still the key humanity needs to be free.«

Levi wasn’t the fan of paperwork, but was willing to do it if Erwin needed him to. The raven shook his head as he gave a slight wave. “No, I can handle a few papers with words on it. I’ll help you later, and the only one that needs the rest around here is you, Erwin.” he gave a slight roll to the eyes.
He knew that Erwin some times wanted the rest of them to take a few hours off of work, but Levi couldn’t do it. Seeing Erwin frustrated with his work, or even stressed made him feel like he should do something. So he always acted upon it. He never left his side, and wasn’t going to leave him alone any time soon.
"I’m not taking a rest until we get this done and figured out. I will help you the whole way through.” his eyes now on Erwin.
—————— [ ♞ ] ——————
Such stubbornness.
The blonde was well aware of the other man's opinion of him
overworking - and considering that it was the same stubbornness
how Levi was also handling the nobles and titans, he didn't wish
to discuss this topic any further.
The captain would certainly persuade him now, no matter what,
until he allowed him to assist him with his huge amount of
paperwork.
Yet the commander felt maybe a bit guilty to put down such
pressure on his subordinate, knowing that he probably end up
not getting any sleep at all.
Both of them were known to lack quite some sleep, but it was
still Erwin's wish to handle urgent matters all alone in the end so
that he was the only one who was responsible for it as well.
After all he was the commander - the one who had to take full
responsibility of all their doings, even if they were against the law.
It was his sole task; the task which had already cost him almost
all of his humanity.
And he'd also acknowledged this path as his own ever since
he'd seen the menace outside the walls.
Of course he could not easily stain Levi who had once been a
criminal in the capital's underground - after all the captain was
probably almost as much feared as his sharp mind.
Yet the nobles were aware that he was the one who made the
decisions - that he was the one who secretly moved the
chess pieces on this board against the injustice they called justice.
Tʜɪs ᴡᴀs ʜɪs ʙᴜʀᴅᴇɴ ᴛᴏ ʙᴇᴀʀ ﹣
ᴜɴᴛɪʟ ʜɪs ɪɴᴇᴠɪᴛᴀʙʟᴇ ᴇɴᴅ ᴡᴏᴜʟᴅ ᴄᴏᴍᴇ.
He had been a fool to even ask him, even if the amount of
paperwork was only silently executing him more every day.
Disbelief, lies, cut funds, complaints -
this was the reality he truly lived in.
Among the paper sheets and oily smell of ink, Erwin sometimes
forgot his ultimate goal - the reason why he was struggling that
much ever since he'd accepted his sins of the past.
»I could order you to take a rest -
yet I'm aware of the outcome if I ordered such.
If you insist to assist me, I can't refuse.
But even then I will only hand down specific paperwork to you.
There is no need for you to get associated with certain topics.
The superiors are ultimately only keeping you in the Survey Corps
because they acknowledge your skills as soldier,
not because they trust you as human being.
I'm certain you're also aware of that.«

☾ Levi sauntered through the trees, making way toward the opening of the forest. Every now and then he’d have to pull away when a bunch of leaves tangled around his horn. He’d then simply sigh and continue in his pace. When the amount of trees grew sparse, light poured through from outside the forest. It was in this light that he noticed a familiar figure in the distance. It was a tall silhouette, especially considering Levi’s height. He hid himself behind a tree when he got closer, hoping to see what he was up to before he himself was seen. When squinting his eyes and leaning in, a small, but audible snap was heard. Levi’s foot had broken a stick, and he only hoped the figure hadn’t heard as well. ☽
—————— [ ♞ ] ——————
From Erwin's point of view there barely existed a peaceful place
in this world anymore. Actually the blonde didn't even believe
that true peaceful cohabit was even possible with the current
state of everyone's mind. He didn't believe in an illusion created
by society nor did he wish to follow their misconception of
justice by ignoring the critical state of the poor.
Once, however, he had believed in this false reality, thinking that
true justice was always created by the nobles who had the world
in their hand.
Yet this was not the truth.
By now, as older man, he had realized that only a few had a
sense for something he would call right and white.
Considering the time he'd spent to follow society's example,
the man couldn't call himself to be righteous regardless.
In those days when he didn't feel like a mere marionette of
this false world, he sought for a desolate place where he could
feel the true nature of this world.
Usually Erwin was drowning himself in work, maybe as an
attempt to make up for his mistakes he had done in the past -
but feeling the cold breeze of air on his skin was certainly quite
relieving at times.
At least if he could ever get rid of the tension he constantly felt
in his muscles.
Entering the forest after several days again, he remembered again
why he had loved this silence ever since he was an adult.
With his innocence of a child gone a long time ago, his heart
might be able to feel like being reborn in this brief moment -
just until he left the forest again, returning to his usual, stressful work.
Maybe more as a mere puppet of his fate instead of a puppeteer.
As always no one was in sight; and even if someone was crossing
his path, Erwin simply and politely greeted them before falling back
into his pondering state.
This time, however, just after a few minutes had passed, he heard
an unfamiliar voice coming from the crown ahead - not being part
of the usual noise any animal would make in the branches.
Azure blue eyes instantly followed the small noise, focusing the spot
in the trees where he believed it came from.
Nothing but the shadow of the waving leaves was seen, yet the man
could feel someone's presence.
Although there was no proof of someone to be up there without any
specific reason, Erwin had always trusted in his strong intuitions.
Years of experience had taught him to trust in them, just like an
old friend who enjoyed to give him advice.
Bᴜᴛ ɪᴛ ᴡᴀs sᴛʀᴀɴɢᴇ﹐ ɴᴇᴠᴇʀᴛʜᴇʟᴇss.
»Who ever it is, I dare you to come out.«
Bravery was the key - and it was appropriated to say that the man
would never falter with the decisions he'd made.
Naturally risks were necessary; but this time he could not feel that
he was in true danger.

"It’s a painting. No ‘hidden expression’, just some shit I do when I’m bored. How did you even get here?”
—————— [ ♞ ] ——————
All artists had an intention in their heart once they started to draw -
either to impress people, to prove their own abilities or to draw
whatever was important to them.
There was simply no in between these options;
and naturally even the excuse of boredom was also supporting
one of these possibilities.
Bᴜᴛ ᴇᴠᴇɴ ᴛʜᴇɴ ɪᴛ ᴅɪᴅɴ·ᴛ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴛᴏ ʙᴇ ᴛʜᴇ ᴛʀᴜᴛʜ.
»Ah, I see.
I wouldn't dare to question the artist's own opinion on their work,
of course - yet sometimes human's mind is not as easy
to understand as such.
Most pictures have an hidden meaning deep within them
due this sheer nature of humanity -
my apology of seeming to be rude.
I'm just passing by -
if you seek for peace and solitude you might be
in the wrong place to begin with.
Unfortunately it's not that rare that someone takes a stroll.«
