Because while Sirius is still deep in denial and internalized homophobia, he's convincing himself like "it's okay, i'm not gay, anyone would want to kiss Remus once in a while, he's just objectively hot"

Except Remus is awkward and quiet when not around friends, he's too tall like he grew up too fast and doesn't know what to do with this extra height, his scars scare people away, he wears grandpa sweaters, drinks tea in his free time and goes to sleep at 9 pm, he can't flirt for the life of him (even though he could bc he's witty and sarcastic) because he has no self-confidence and it shows.

He's basically a loser (affectionate) and Sirius is like "it's okay, no need to panic, he's the sexiest man on earth but that's just an astute observation, no gay thoughts here"

and i just think that's funny as hell

sirius trying to convince himself that his attraction to remus is completely normal bc he likes the weirdest things about him. he loves watching the way his throat moves when he's drinking water, but everybody has throats so that can't be romantic. and wow moony has really nice hands, big, rough hands that sometimes sirius imagines how they'd feel against his skin or wrapped around his waist, but also, once in first year he thought about how long and thin mcgonagall's hands are too so whatever. and yes, maybe sirius notices the way his nose gets freckles during the summer or how his canines are sharp and the left one is slightly crooked in the most lovely way, but that doesn't mean anything. it's a tooth, for christ's sake. there's nothing romantic about it. he certainly doesn't notice the teeth of the people he dates. it's just familiarity, they're close friends and sometimes sirius notices things about his mouth. and his throat. and his hands. and his nose. and his entire face actually, which btw is really nice. but again, no biggie.

Concept for a fic: Sirius hates his life. He lives in Paris with his rich, cruel parents. He has no free time, is forced to study under strict tutors and go to formal functions that he hates.

Unbeknownst to him, he has an identical twin, Regulus, raised in the English countryside by their uncle Alphard (their mother couldn't be bothered to raise two children, so when the twins were born she gave one to her brother.) He longs to live in a city, and hates the rowdy, pretentious boys at the boarding school he goes to in the Scottish highlands.

The twins meet, and decide to swap places. Regulus goes back to Paris and dutifully fulfils his role as their parents' heir, finally getting to study Latin and everything he wanted. Sirius loves the countryside in Britain, and gets along famously with Regulus' classmates, namely James, Remus and Peter. Both of them wish the switch could be permanent, but things start to unravell quickly, with people noticing the sudden change in their behaviour. How long can they keep up the act before the truth comes out?

sirius desperate to have double dates with remus and completely clueless about why. all he knows is that if he's having a date, moony is having one too. it goes like this:

sirius' date: can you get me a chocolate milkshake?

sirius: actually, my hands will be full bringing my own coffee and moony's cappuccino, sorry.

sirius' date, smiling at him from across the table: so, what do you wanna do after school?

sirius, looking at remus: what are we doing after school? maybe getting a place of our own. just us guys, you know.

remus' date: it's so cold, remus. can I borrow your jacket?

sirius, laughing in disbelief: don't you know he has cold hands? he can't lend you his clothes, he'll freeze to death.

remus' date: remus, you look so smart. I know you're the top of the care of magical creatures class. maybe you can tutor me one day?

sirius: oh my god, do you hear yourself? if he's the top of the class it's because he works hard for it. how is he supposed to do that if he's busy tutoring you? please.

remus: so, they told me they never wanna hang out again.
