sorry i just want to talk about the similarities between c!rivals duo forever and how so much of their differences can be summed up with the quote 'people improve when they get external love and support. how can we hold it against them, when they don’t?'

like of course the guy who tried so hard to hold things together for so long only to see everyone turn on him and leave him turned to a sort of self-destructive desire for control!

and of course the guy who was betrayed and blamed and traumatized but had someone there telling him it would be alright was able to step back and change his course!

anyway.

first, this was a VERY quick thing that didn't go into detail. when it comes to the bit about the dehumanization, yes, obviously c!dream pushes back against it at points. but he does eventually accept it. it's why he throws himself into the role of the villain, it's why he says 'okay' when c!tommy calls him a monster. where c!techno constantly has pushed back and never accepted that dehumanization. other people like @dr3amofagame have put this better.

and to the point about techno having advantages, well, that was my point, wasn't it? i even mention that techno has his steadfast friend at the point where he was about to spiral. he has the support and structure that dream never had. he has that stability. that's the entire point. that's their big difference.

one thing that got lost here was this was in response to another post i made which was saying that techno managed to walk a different path because he had support where dream didn't.

i'm not blaming dream's mental health for the difference in where events took them. i'm blaming the fact that techno had support and dream never did. and that lack of support caused dream to be less stable. dream went about everything in a way that makes complete sense for the way he was treated and his lack of support. he's scared and hurting and desperate and no one is stopping to help him and at a certain point, he can't even accept the help because his plan is all he has. that's not his fault. i'm sorry if somehow it came off like i was blaming him or something. this was just a quick response to an on-going conversation.

Reminds me of how dream said that if he had to swap characters it would be c!techno because of how similar they and their goals were

like, at the end of the day, they both wanted the same thing: peace and their friends to be safe and happy.

genuinely, the biggest difference was the amount of support they each got and the fact that c!techno was a lot more stable. he's been through a lot, he genuinely has some deep trauma. it's just techno has a much stronger sense of self. he pushes back against the dehumanization, where dream accepts it.

so dream spirals. he spirals hard and he keeps spiraling because no one is helping him, least of all himself. where techno begins to spiral, does try isolate himself, but he's much more certain of who he is and he has at least one steadfast friend at the start of that spiral. he's able to walk himself back. where. dream doesn't. he can't.

and i do think techno saw that a bit, he offers dream a place but man. dream is so deep in his fear and his stress, he can't stop to accept that place. he dances on the edge of maybe. he builds a house. but he can't step away because he's terrified and the spiral plan is all he has now. he's got to see it through and maybe he'll be able to fix everything! so he destroys the house.
