Hello everyone! It’s been a long while. Yes, I’m still practicing minimalism. And, yes, it continues to be empowering.
Aside from living a simple life, I still like reading about simplifying and minimalism. Sharing my Flipboard collection of articles. I update this whenever I find something goody. Enjoy!
Simplifying,
Danny

Dear Friends & Followers,
Happy new year! Thank you for following, reading, liking and reblogging my posts this 2015 (although I posted less). Thank you also for writing just to say hello or asking me “how to start” minimalist questions (I replied to everyone privately). I hope I was able to be of help somehow.
I myself started simplifying in 2009. A year after, I created this Tumblr account to file and document my journey. I also started this to share minimalist links with friends. It’s been 5 years since and in the process I was blessed with thousands of Tumblr friends & followers, like you!
As way of expressing my gratitude, here’s a simple phone wallpaper I just made and now use. On it are the powerful words that I first wrote for myself when I was just a starting minimalist. I hope the message resonates with you as well.
This 2016 remember to continue using simplicity and minimalism as a tool to focus your life on the things that truly matter to you. Learn as much as you can then act! You’ll never regret it!
Simplifying,
Danny

“MY 3 WORDS” is something you should really try! Chris has been doing this for 10 years (and this year is his 11th). I myself have been doing a version of it the past few years. I only have three words for this idea: Simple. Empowering. Life-changing.
To help you get the ball rolling, below is a list of his words from the past 10 years. In each one he also explains the why and the how it’s done. His 3 Words for 2016 will be live on January 1st. So check his site by then.
2006 – Ask. Do. Share
2007 – Seek. Frame. Build. Bridge
2008 – Believe. Loops. Farm
2009 – Equip. Armies. Needles
2010 – Ecosystems. Owners. Kings
2011 – Reinvest. Package. Flow
2012 – Temple. Untangle. Practice
2013 – Walt. Ender. Monchu
2014 - Lifestyle. Monchu. Black.
2015 – Plan. Leverage. Fabric.
So, what words will you be using this 2016?

This Sunday I watched the full documentary (1hr) of Thrive With Less. In a nutshell, six students seeking a minimal lifestyle in an excessive society. The challenges they gave themselves are interesting ones. We can try some (or all) of them for ourselves. For more details, check out Thrive With Less on Tumblr as well :)

I lost my phone. I have a phone now, and I lost it and I just really didn't look for it. It was the nicest feeling, like six weeks. ... A couple of times I needed to use a telephone, and I was always able to touch someone that had a telephone and say, "Hey, can I use your phone? May I please?" And they'd say, "Sure." And that was it! So it was OK, it was a real vacation. I took a real vacation from myself. ... Everyone needs to take a vacation from the sort of automatic things you do, you know. The automatic things you do are basically those things that keep you from doing the better things you need to do. So, getting away from all that sort of left me in front of the question, "Well, what would I do today if I had no one telling me or asking me to do something?" So, I really relaxed. I hadn't relaxed like that in many years, I don't think. I don't think I ever got as relaxed as I got this summer. You know, I walked around, I looked at nature, I jumped in the ocean — things that you think you'd do if you had real freedom of a day.

Very interesting minimalist experience from actor Bill Murray.

Often when we think if minimalism, we think of dealing with letting go of material things. Minimalism also means letting go of the past and, if you’re brave enough, people as well. -Danny

Just as simplifying allows us to “eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak,” gratitude allows us to “practice looking at what’s right in our lives rather than focusing on what’s missing.”

In May 8, 2013, Gunnar Garfords earned the title of the youngest person (he was just 37 years old!) to travel to every country. To me, he is an excellent example of how one can structure and focus ones life to achieve ones own personal goals.
Here are more inspiring stories of others who have used simplicity and minimalism to achieve their dreams as well:
1. How A Couple Of 'Frugal Weirdos' Are Saving 71% Of Their Income So They Can Retire At Age 33
“I do think we live what we consider a luxurious frugal life,” says Mr. Frugalwoods. “We live very comfortably and have everything we want.”
2. How living out of suitcases for 2 years, through 5 countries, helped one family pay over $30,000 of debt
...our nomadic life has taught us is that when we finally do settle down, we won't need a great, big house with a fancy car to be happy. I've learned that you don't need to have a permanent address to feel like you have a home.
3. See How This Filipina Lives Large Inside Her Tiny Mobile Home
Vina proves that you don’t need a mansion to find your happiness.

The Hoarder In You by Dr. Robin Zasio
I’m no hoarder but I wanted to learn what makes a hoarder tick, to find out if we share the same beliefs and thought processes when it comes to dealing with material possessions. Sharing with you two of my key take aways:
We save what we save because they mean something to us. This emotional quality is what gives our stuff so much power in our lives.
Clutter is the result of your reluctance to make a decision about your possession.
