are you trying to get us in trouble?
Otis x 51 gf yup
Trouble - [ Brian ‘Otis’ Zvonecek ]
Send me a prompt or a single word and I’ll write five-ten sentences/paragraphs about it
Prompt: “Are you trying to get us in trouble?”
Masterlist | Otis Masterlist
Tumblr media
“Are you trying to get us in trouble?” Otis whispered, after allowing you to pull off his t-shirt in one quick motion, dropping it by the shower drain as you planted your lips firmly on the nape of his neck.
You said nothing, instead grazing your teeth gently over his protruding collarbones, in a way that had a shudder rattle up his body and escape into the air, making you smile smugly to yourself as you always did like to bask in the way you made him feel.
“You're not worried, are you baby? That someone might catch us in here?” You whispered, the heat of your breath puffing over his skin in a way that gave him goosebumps as your mouth worked its way back up, your hands running equally as slow up the length of his muscular arms.
“No.” Otis scoffed out, ignoring the slight touch of worry deep in the pit of his stomach over the very idea of getting caught. He swallowed thickly, pushing those nerves down further as he wrapped his arms tightly around your waist, angling his head a little to allow you better access to his neck. “I just don’t want anyone seeing parts of you that only I get to see.”
“Is that so?” You chuckled, guiding your mouth all the way towards his ear, pressing kisses over every inch of him that you could before you reached your destination, tugging gently on his lobe in a way that had him huff out a breath before you whispered. “Well perhaps I’d be better suited pinned to the wall, that way… No one will be able to see much should they find us.”
In one quick motion, you found yourself pressed up against the shower wall, your legs wrapped tightly around Otis’s waist as he held you in place. Your arms wrapped around his neck, fingers threading through the softness of his hair as he kissed you like a starving man, with such intense heat that it felt like there was steam in the air and yet there was no water to be seen.
“There… Now no one will see you.” Otis breathed out, taking your lips in his again as he rocked his hips against yours, a soft whine escaping the back of your throat as that hardness beneath his pants. “But that doesn’t mean they won’t be able to hear you.”

Evermore pt. 5
Cassie Voight x Mouse, Cassie Voight x Jay Halstead
a/n: sorry everyone, this is kind of a filler chapter but I promise next chapter all of the goods will start to come. Patience is a virtue 💝.
warnings: swearing, decision making, crying. Shes a filler chapter idk what to tell you. Anything I missed though.
word count: 2030
wattpad: sjhhoran
Tumblr media
Expectantly looking at the two people before him, Sergeant Voight rests his eyes on his daughter.
Trying to analyze and prepare for the choice she makes he studies her face. He studies her brown eyes, long brown hair, her beautifully square jaw and soft features. He always admired his daughter, she was a carbon copy of his late wife Camille.
Stepping back to lightly sit on the edge of his desk, Voight clasps his hands together in his lap still waiting for an answer.
Lightly chuckling out of disbelief, Cassie looks over at Jay who was still harboring the same reaction.
"Well?" Her father finally asks.
"I-I don't know." The girl says shocked.
"Sarge, don't you think it might be a little too soon, considering..." Jay interjected with his arms crossed in front of him.
"Considering everything that happened a week ago?" Voight asks assuming the rest of the other man's sentence.
"Uh, yeah." Jay says frankly.
"Well also considering we've been down a detective in the unit for a week now, and Antonio hasn't had a partner, I think now is an appropriate time to fill that spot. Look, I'm not trying to replace Willhite. That's not what's happening. Willhite was an extraordinary detective and what happened was tragic. But I would be doing a dishonor to my unit if I leave an open spot. That means we have one less person on busts, we have one less person to help solve cases, and we have one less person putting bad guys behind bars. Now, I see someone that I trust and that I have faith in to live up to Willhite's reputation and thrive in this environment. So Cassie, what do you say?" Voight looks at his daughter again who looks even more intimidated than she was the first time he offered.
A million thoughts were running through Cassie's head, and yet she still couldn’t pick one and take the job. Being a paramedic gives her a rush, its fills a hole inside her that aches to help. But so did being a police officer at one point. Yeah she fell into a routine and couldn’t commit to being a patrolman, but this is a completely different field. This is becoming a detective.
Cassie had grown up around detectives her whole life. She knew the ins and outs of how they did their job, she understood the consequences of the hours and how some cases take a larger toll than others. But she also knew the effects of being too ‘in’ on the job. How easily it is to overwhelm yourself, and completely indulge in the rush that puts the bad people away. That’s what scared her. She knew her father wasn’t around a lot when she was growing up because of this job, so a piece of her does resent it. She resents the nights they would eat dinner without him, the Sunday’s he wasn’t at church. She resented the birthday parties and minor holidays he would miss, she resented it all. One of the main reasons she hasn’t made a choice yet is because one of her biggest fears is turning into her father. But also one of her biggest goals is to do that very thing.
“I say I need a little more time.” She finally admits.
“Okay. You have two days,” Voight says standing up and walking over to his chair.
“Okay? Thats it?” She asks confused.
“That’s it. You need time, I gave you time.” He said sitting down and opening a case file.
Cassie looked at Jay again who was biting the inside of his cheek.
Looking back at her father who isn’t paying any attention to the pair now she rubbed the back of her neck.
“I- um, yeah, okay. I’ll let you know.” She said turning to walking out the door but Jay was blocking it.
Staring into space and not noticing the girl trying to leave, Jay finally moved once she cleared her throat muttering a quick ‘excuse me.’
“What was that about?” Erin asked as the pair walked out of Voight’s office catching the rest of intelligence’s attention.
Cassie walked closer to the other girl before disclosing what just happened.
“He just offered me a job.” She said emotionlessly crossing her arms and staring daggers into Lindsay’s eyes. Cassie didn’t say it loud enough for the rest of the unit to hear, but by Erin’s reaction they knew it was big.
“Are you serious!?” Erin shouted catching everyone’s attention again making Cassie’s eyes grow wide.
“Shhh,” the girl said glancing around at their audience. “C’mon.” She finally said bowing her head and walking out of the office with Erin following her.
Once they stepped outside the district to catch some fresh air, Cassie broke. Full pacing, chewing her lips, and lightly pinching her bicep with her crossed arms.
“He offered me a job!” She finally shouted looking at her just as shocked sister. The only difference is, Lindsay doesn’t show it as obviously.
“What are you going to do?” Erin asked sitting down on the bench.
Stopping in her tracks Cassie turns to do the same. Now instead of pacing, her leg is restlessly bouncing against the bench seat, slightly annoying Erin.
“I don’t know. I just got my paramedic certification and I’ve been promoted to PIC. I absolutely adore my partner, Sylvie Brett. The environment has relaxed since Matt and Dad have worked out their issues, I just, I’m at a loss right now.” She said resting her elbows on her knees.
“Okay, so what are some pros and cons of becoming a detective right now.” Erin pressed now rubbing circles against the other girls back.
“Well, I’ve already been through the academy and worked the streets, so I’d just come directly upstairs if I transfer. I get to work closer with you, Dad, and Jay. The hours seem pretty shit though,”
“And 24-48 hour shifts are any better?” Erin asked chuckling.
“You’re right.” Cassie said quietly.
“But I won’t get to wear my 5.11’s anymore.” Cassie said sadly looking over at her sister.
“What is that?”
“The EMS pants.”
“And?”
“And they made my butt look good. Sue me.”
Bursting into a fit of laughter, the girls took a few minutes to recollect their thoughts and calm down. All of the previous worries leaving Cassie’s mind, all except for one.
“What if I don’t have what it takes?” Cassie asked sitting up straight and looking dead ahead of her.
“In what way?”
“What if I won’t be able to solve the crimes or actually put people away? What if I’m just the weak link that’s going to make the whole unit drown?” She asks quieter truly unsure.
“If you didn’t have what it takes, do you really think Hank would’ve offered you the job?” Erin asked.
“Out of pity? Probably.” Cassie said knowing it wasn’t true.
“No. If you didn’t have what it took to be a good cop, Hank would not put the whole unit in jeopardy just to make you feel better in some way. Especially not out of pity.” Erin said looking over at her sister who knows better.
“How am I supposed to just quit my other job? Just walk in and say, ‘Hey here’s my two week notice, but scratch that and make it my last shift notice because instead of being a paramedic I’m gonna be a detective in a special unit! Don’t hate me, I know it’s only my third time switching my whole career field but you know, yolo!’”
“Precisely.” Erin joked earning an eye roll from Cassie.
Exactly two days later on the dot, Cassie had a plan.
Walking into 51, Cassie went straight to Chief Boden’s office.
“Sir, can I speak with you?” She asked knocking on his slightly cracked door.
“Yeah, come on in.” He said waving her in and taking his glasses off.
“So what’s this about? You’re not on shift until tomorrow.” He said as he watched her get comfortable in the seat before him.
“I-uh,” Cassie chuckled a little as she tried to fan her face so tears won’t fall. Taking a deep breath before continuing she looked her Chief in the eye and flashed a sympathetic smile. Taking the resignation slip out of her coat pocket, she layed the document on his desk.
“Cassie,” He said almost breathlessly as he stared at the pink slip before him.
“If this is about what happened a few days ago, you can take a few shifts off. You know, decompress. Cope. You don’t have-”
“It’s not about that,” Cassie interrupted.
“It’s not about that situation, or you, or anyone else here at 51. You guys are my family and I will forever cherish the experiences and connections I’ve made here.” Taking a pause Cassie glanced down at her now bleeding cuticles as she was picking at them nervously.
“As you may know, I used to be a cop at the 31st district. I completed the academy, and I was a patrolman for two years. In the middle of that, I realized that, that uniform was not for me. I realized I had another calling, and that was to be a paramedic. Thats why for the last three years I’ve worked my ass off, pardon my language, to become an EMT then a Paramedic, and now a PIC. But after what happened, they let me in the room to help question Lullo. To help get the confession from him, and I did. And it was euphoric. To be the one to help put someone behind bars that deserved it, that was my calling. That was my original intention of becoming a cop, and that’s why, when I got the job offer to become a detective, to continue my law enforcement career, I knew I couldn’t pass it up. Becoming a paramedic has been the best thing in my life, and I will forever be indebted to you, and everyone else that helped that dream come true. But I know becoming a detective, and doing real work besides patrolling the streets, that’s my life’s purpose.” Cassie finally said wiping a few stray tears.
Taking a deep breath and closing his eyes for a moment, Boden didn’t know what to say.
“As much as I admire your adaptability, and your ability to find purpose in so many things in life, I’ve got to say I’m disappointed. I’m obviously sad to see you go, I truly thought you had a big future here, and being a paramedic in general. Because you’re good at it. You’ve got the guts and the leadership skills to take charge and be the person everyone else looks up too in this community, but I understand you have to follow your gut. I understand you have bigger things to accomplish in life. Cassie, you’re going to do amazing no matter where you work, no matter what you do. I will always be here for you if you need anything, but I want you to consider your decision one last time. Because once I file this paper, you will never be a paramedic again. Not unless you go through the courses and training again. Do you understand that?” He finally asks looking at the girl.
Taking a pause and truly thinking everything over again. Cassie reluctantly nods.
“I understand.” She says now earning a slow nod from the man.
“Then I wish you well. You’re going to do great things.” He finally says standing up at the same time as Cassie and giving her a brief hug.
“Cassie wait,” He calls out making her stop in her tracks, “have you told anyone?”
“No.”
“Do you want to? That way you can break the news?”
Taking a deep breath and thinking it over, Cassie knew she wouldn’t be able to go through with this if she did, so in the most selfish way possible, Cassie shook her head.
“No.” She said now walking out.
As Cassie walked out to her car she let her tears free fall and pulled out her phone.
Cassie:“I’m in.”
Dad: “I know. I’ll see you Monday.”

All Day - Brian Zvonecek | 18+

“Imagine how I good I’d feel inside you.” + “I didn’t know you were like this.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Being with Brian was probably the easiest thing you’d ever done. Easily. He was kind, and gentle, and loving. Just overall a sweet charmer. Working together meant a lot of your time together was spent on calls.
And today had been intense, a helicopter crashing because of a couple of boys flying a drone was not something either of you expected from the shift but regardless of working on different companies, you and Brian saved a lady’s life.
And god did he look good doing it. No seriously, seriously, if it wasn’t the life or death situation of a lady you would have been ogling over him the entire time, but you know, professionalism and all. Regardless, the way he took control over all of it? Knew what he was doing?
Hot. Just so extremely, extremely hot. And it had been on your mind all day. Especially now as you were in the passenger seat of his car on your way to his place. It was difficult keeping your thoughts to yourself, but part of you worried that he’d be, weirded out? That you were turned on by him just doing his job.
So you sat, legs pressed together and your hand innocently in his. Even now as he drove your eyes shifted up from where you two were connected, over his arm, his partially covered bicep that now out of his uniform was only covered by the short sleeve of his button up, and over his face.
“I can feel you staring.” Brian spoke suddenly, glancing over without as much as a turn of his head. Instantly your cheeks went red, turning away from him with a shake of the head.
“I- No, I was just, admiring.” You blubbered out, shifting slightly. Getting caught looking was one thing but getting caught looking because you were having a million and one thoughts of him on top of you was embarrassing to say the least.
Brian turned his head to you briefly, “Mhm, well stop doing that. Hair on the back of my neck is standing up. Tickles,” He chuckled faintly, squeezing your hand. He was very obviously kidding but still, you turned your eyes to look out the window
If you didn’t look at him then maybe you’d be able to control yourself. Except when you got home and he instantly fell onto the couch with his shoes kicked off, you couldn’t help looking over him.
This time your lingering gaze was not ignored, Brian twisting to look right back at you, “If you’re gonna stare, at least do so over here so I can hold onto you while you do,” He muttered, his hand stretching out lazily.
You sucked in a deep breath before walking over to him. “Maybe I want to admire you from afar.” You teased, grabbing onto his hand. The warmth of his palm made you sigh, instantly being drawn towards him.
“You could but,” Brian yanked your arm just slightly, pulling you onto his lap. “I couldn’t do this,” He smiled, eyes sliding over your face. With your legs around him, you bit your lip, shrugging just slightly.
It took nearly everything inside of you to not grind down against him, instead putting your arms over his shoulders, one hand slipping into his hair. “Hm, you’re right. I like this,” You grinned, feeling his hands sliding up your thighs. “Yeah, like this a lot.”
Slowly you leaned forward, pressing your lips to him, giving up on whatever control you had over yourself. Brian was just too damn intoxicating and you couldn’t ignore it anymore. Apparently he was on the same page though, his grip going to your hips just tightly enough to push you down against him.
A soft groan rumbled through you, repeating the motion, this time without any outside force needed. As soon as you pulled back his lips were on your neck – hot open mouthed kisses going across your skin. “God I’ve wanted this all day,” You muttered out, tugging just slightly at his hair.
The tickle of his mustache always made you squirmy, that on top of the annoyance in your pants made you rock down against him steadily, not caring how needy it made you look. “All day?” Brian muttered, pushing your shirt off your shoulder.
“Well, since,” A moan cut you off as he sucked a mark onto your collarbone. “Since that helicopter call.” You weren’t going to say anything but as soon as it came out, his hands slid up your sides, one staying splayed out on your back.
Brian’s eyebrow lifted, confused on how you decided you wanted him like this on a call of all places. “The helicopter call?” He questioned, tucking stray strands of hair off of your face. Softly you hummed in response, scratching just slightly at his scalp.
“Mhm, watching you take everything apart, and lifting it. I don’t really know. Did something to me.” You burned red as you admitted it to him. He instantly shifted to grab the bottom of your shirt, pulling it up and off of you.
The sudden coldness of the room made you suck in a breath, his lips immediately connecting to your chest. You held him to your chest, the growing bulge in his jeans giving you more friction, his hands grabbing wherever they could.
Your sides, hips, thighs, ass. Everywhere. If he could touch you everywhere all at once he would. “You know,” You breathed out, looking down at him. “When I first met you, I didn’t know you were like this.”
Honestly, meeting young Brian Zvonecek his first year on truck was crazy. He was a goofy guy. His hair was still unruly, he’d gotten better at styling it now but you liked it before either way. He’d filled out his uniform nicely, again, not that you weren’t infatuated from first sight but it was more so the growing together that got you. And you were thankful for that daily.
Brian’s hands went back up your thighs, squeezing as they did. “Yeah, and I didn’t know I was like this, either. And I thought you were shy when I first met you... Now look at you, huh?” He always did manage to have a sort of cocky attitude when he had you like this. Which, lucky for him, was pretty often.
You left out a soft whimper at his tone, biting your lip. Brian reached up more, moving to unbutton your jeans, looking up at you. Easily you shifted enough to get them off, not caring that you were just in your underwear and bra, not when his eyes hungrily grazed over you.
Your fingers found the clasp of his belt and button of his jeans, looking over his face, “You’re overdressed for the occasion.” You leaned forward into his ear, whispering softly. Without any hesitation, he shifted you off of him, standing to shove off his pants, the buckle hitting the floor with a clang.
No matter how many times you saw his body it alway, always made you want him more than you originally did. Though, watching the button up hit the floor was always a bit upsetting, you always loved them. Especially this one, red, birds all over it. He was wearing it the first time he fingered you so it always brought back memories to say the least.
As soon as he was sat back on the couch, the only thing covering him being his boxers, he reached his hand out again. Easily you crawled back onto his lap, lips crushed together the second you could.
Every movement together made him groan, his hands reaching around to finally unclasp the bra that covered your chest. As soon as it joined the other clothes on the floor, he slid his hands up your chest, cupping each breast in his hands.
Your back involuntarily arched towards him, his fingers tweaking your nipples as you did. A low groan bubbled in the back of your throat, bucking your hips down against him. “God Bri, you feel so good.” Each word was mumbled but he understood each of them, his mouth coming up to your ear.
He pressed a kiss right under it, still feeling you up, “Imagine how good I’d feel inside of you.” The words came out before he could even think them over, the pure lust and horniness front and foremost in his mind.
Neither of you were even sure what to say, you out of pure shock at his confidence and how much that turned you on and him out of slight embarrassment. Regardless it went away within seconds, you shifting onto your back and pulling him on top of you.
“Say that again.” You muttered, craning your head up to kiss his neck. He shook his head slightly, going to decline. “Brian, that was one of the hottest things I’ve ever heard come out of your mouth. Say it again.”
That was enough to spark something inside of him, his fingers walking up the inside of your thigh, “Well in that case, I said, imagine how good I’d feel inside of you.” His index finger danced along the top of your underwear, agonizingly slow over the exact spot you actually wanted him, your eyes hooded as he looked over you.
Impatiently you tried to lift into him, his touch pulling away as you did. He kneeled back onto his knees, fingers racing up to loop over the band. As always, he hesitated, waiting for a sure nod and yes before doing anything. “Go ahead,” You spoke firmly with a nod, already lifting your hips up for him to remove the last layer of your clothing.
Brian pulled them off, his hands going right back to the upper most part of your thighs. Gently he nudged one of your legs around him, propped up under one of the pillows on the couch. “I ever tell you how beautiful you are?” He muttered, trailing a finger through your folds, collecting as much of your arousal as he could.
You nodded quickly, your hands balled into fists to try and keep yourself still for him. Not that he was much of a tease, not on days like this. He was always the type to give you just what you wanted, it was in his blood. He was a pleaser. And boy did he please.
So it was no surprise how quickly and easily he pressed his middle finger into you, curling it up like he had done this a million times. Your eyes glazed over his body, trickling down to where he moved his digit inside of you. “Fuck, Brian,” His name practically dripped the same way you were out of you.
He watched how you reacted to each movement, slipping his ring finger in as soon as your hips bucked up, unable to stay still anymore. Every pump made a disgusting squelch but he was hitting the exact spot, your hand coming up to grab onto his arm.
“Just- just like that,” You groaned out, nodding tightly. There was an attempt to keep your eyes on him. Really, but as soon as you started to clench around him and the outer edge of your vision went white, you scrunched your eyes closed.
Brian slowly slowed inside of you, making sure to ride you out of the high entirely before he leaned over you, making a show of licking over his fingers. “For someone so gorgeous, you taste just as good.” He spoke, leaning down to kiss you before you could even say anything back.
Granted no words were even coming to your mind, just overwhelmed with the pulsing in between your legs. That and the bulge that was still hidden away. You reached between the two of you, palming at him.
“I think these should come off.” You sighed out, him kissing your cheek, and then jaw before sitting back like he had before, this time discarding his boxers. Instantly you felt yourself clench around nothing, always a mess for him. “God, please fuck me.” You muttered, more so under your breath and to yourself but not unheard to the man above you.
“Trust me. I plan to,” He hummed, sliding his fingers through your mess, using the wetness to get himself ready, not that he wasn’t already completely swollen and dripping his own precum. You whined faintly, sensitive to the touch as you tried to push closer to him.
He leaned down, kissing your lower stomach before gently sliding inside of you. Your mouth gaped open as he did, your hand once again found his arm, wrapping around his forearm. Slowly he started to thrust into you, planting himself on either side of your head.
Your gaze would have stayed on his face if you weren’t distracted by the way his bicep tightened as he held himself up. And you were sure if you could see the way his back muscles looked right now, you’d be a complete and utter mess. Well, more so than you already were.
“This what you wanted from me all day?” Brian noted the way your eyes were locked on his arm. “For me to be on top of you like this?” His hips snapped up, the usually gentle man unable to help how turned on he was.
Having someone be so attracted to him that they were thinking about him at work? When they weren’t being all coupley at home? When he was just, being Otis? Just being Brian? It worked its way into his mind and each hit into you was enough proof you needed of that.
Your eyes went back up to his face, eyebrows pulled together as you nodded, “Yes, god, yes it was.” You moaned out, the way your mouth hung open the perfect chance for Brian to run his thumb over your bottom lip.
“How bad?” You didn’t answer right away, making him lean closer to you. “How badly did you want me to fuck you while we were at work?” He repeated, his palm pushed to the side of your face, holding you there.
The knot in your stomach was already tightening, everything about how he was acting simply sent you over. “So bad baby,” You whined, “So so bad.” A breath caught in your throat as you dug your nails into his skin.
Before you could give warning, your back lifted, electricity running throughout your entire body as you tightly clenched around him. “Bri-” His name didn’t even come out louder than a squeak as he kept his pace up, chasing his own release.
It wasn’t far behind yours, the man only stilling with a groan as he came, filling all of you up. Your eyes locked on one another, his thumb lightly gracing your cheek. Once you’d both pulled yourselves together he leaned down to grab his boxers, putting them underneath you before pulling out.
That was the only thing that kept your mess from getting onto the furniture but he leaned down, peppering soft kisses over your face, the hair above his lip making your nose scrunch up. He waited a couple moments before pressing a long and firm kiss to your lips. “You alright?” Brian made sure to question, taking your soft nod as a good enough answer.
Slowly he stood, grabbing onto your hands to help you up and into the bathroom. “Here, go to the bathroom, I’ll start a bath for you and go clean up okay?” His voice was soft, planting a gentle kiss to your forehead as you sat on the toilet.
Without another word he turned the water on to get warm before disappearing from the room, reappearing a couple minutes later with a new set of clothes for both of you nicely folded. “You want help getting in?” Brian offered, gingerly taking your hand to help you stand and step into the bathtub.
The two of you sat there for a bit, Brian washing your hair for you while leaving more and more kisses over your shoulders and the back of your neck. Once you were out, dry and clothed, the two of you moved to his bed, his arms wrapped around you.
Slightly you shifted to face him, placing your hand on the side of his face, “Can I tell you a secret?” You asked, a smile fighting to grow on your face. He nodded instantly, mumbling an ‘always’ under his breath. “I love you.”
A blush crossed his cheeks as he thought for a second. “Can I tell you a secret?” He countered, raising his eyebrows together. With a giggle you nodded, already knowing what was going to be said.
“I love you too.”

⚠️SJHHEMMINGS RANT⚠️:
why is it when i get into a groove of writing i always have real life obligations to do?
like real life stuff i have to get done and put energy and focus into that i can’t just put into my writing.
i genuinely thought posting 2-3x a week for Evermore would be a piece of cake. UM NO? It’s been a whole week since I’ve posted a chapter and I’m so stressed I literally cannot even begin to think of the one thing i want to do which is write. like my heart is so sad and this week is literally going to be so busy and i just want to apologize in advance to everyone.
like i’ve tried to keep everyone fed with the mood boards and the cover art update since i don’t have any time to write but idk if it’s cutting it tbh.
also i just want to put into perspective the amount of thought i put into each chapter is about 6-12 hours of writing. not in a row but like it takes me so long and sometimes i feel like its such shit no matter what I do. so i’m sorry lol.
here’s to hopefully posting a new chapter tomorrow since i’ve gotten 1/4 of chapter 5 written tonight 🙌🏻❤️🥂✨

“Babe! Where's Isabel?”.
You walked into your bedroom while your husband was lying in bed, pretending to be focused on his cell phone and not hearing you.
You stood in front of him, hands on hips and eyebrow raised as you waited for him to look at you.
“Huh? What did you say darling?” he asked dumbly, finally looking at you and flashing you one of the most charmed smiles he was capable of.
You crossed your arms over your chest. “You heard me, don't play dumb Halstead.”
“I don't know what you're talking about babe, Isabel should be in her bassinet,” he feigned a hint of concern. You pulled back the blanket that was partially covering his chest, revealing your little girl in his arms who wouldn't stop waving her little arms and giggling as soon as she saw you.
“Jay! She should sleep in her crib!” you scolded him and pointing your finger at him as you tried to hold back a smile at the sight of that wonderful scene. She was lying on his bare chest, her little head resting on his shoulder as he stroked her back.
“No she doesn’t!” he exclaimed with an almost offended expression as his arms spontaneously squeezed his baby, as if he was afraid you might take her away from him. “She wants to sleep here with her dada, don't you princess?” he asked her, however aware she wouldn’t be able to answer him. He lifted her into the air as she kept waving her arms and legs, giggling and screaming as she watched her father. “Oh yes she does. You always want to be with your dad, right? You're still too little to be alone. You’ll sleep with mama and dada.”
You chuckled as you let out a frustrated sigh, knowing he'd never give in. “But she has to start sleeping in her bassinet baby, or she’ll get too used being with us.”
“She has to sleep with us, she told me that and I can’t say no to this little pretty face. No, I can’t,” he replied using his baby voice, but always keeping his eyes on his daughter who was drooling as she had his little fingers in her mouth and babbled with her little voice. He pulled her closer to her and left kisses on her cheeks. “She won't go anywhere without me and she’ll sleep here tonight, from tomorrow she’ll stay in her bassinet I promise.”
You knew this would never happen but you didn't respond, instead sitting on the edge of the bed as you continued to watch Jay's love for his little girl with a huge smile on your face.
There was no doubt he was madly in love with her, from the moment she let out her first breath as a newborn. You had never seen him like that, so happy. Of course, he had always been sweet with you, so thoughtful, attentive in everything he did and everything that concerned you, but the way he looked at Isabel, God, that little girl had him wrapped around her little finger.
Jay would’ve never believed how such a tiny creature could turn his world upside down like that and yet there he was, his heart bursting with joy as he hugged his little girl.
“Come on baby, how can you say no to this face?” he asked, placing his face next to Isabel's and turning to you. You alternated your gaze between one and the other and still almost couldn't believe how much they looked alike. There would’ve been no need for a paternity test, you had birthed Jay's twin.
You sighed, unable to pretending being mad any longer. It really was impossible, not when the loves of your life looked at you like this. “I hate you Halstead,” you muttered.
He laughed and opened his free arm, as an invitation to join them. “Come here my love.”
You didn't make him repeat it twice and you lay down next to him, leaving a kiss on his lips and on Isabel's forehead who extended her little arms towards you, eager to be held by her mother.
“I love you two so damn much baby,” he whispered in your ear as he kissed your cheek, his hand caressing Isabel’s little head.
This was all you wanted, all you wished for. Your beautiful little family and, God, you couldn't be happier. You had a wonderful husband who loved you and his little girl with all his being, and a wonderful daughter, full of joy and life, and even though it was difficult sometimes and there were moments where you thought you couldn't do it, you wouldn't have it any another way.

Evermore pt. 4
greg ‘mouse’ gerwitz x cassie voight OC
A/N: so there's going to be a little time jump to season 3 episode 11 of Chicago Fire where canonically Sylvie and Peter get kidnapped, Im thinking it’s still in about season 1 of PD though. I'm gonna change it a little bit so I hope it doesn't get too confusing...i'm going to try and stay as canon as possible but we'll see. Also don’t hate me for the timeline because I’m lowkey just as confused. (also idk why the spacing is weird, but i gave up trying to fix it.)
warnings: kidnapping, slight ptsd, swearing, violence.
word count: 4920

It's now been 3 months since Cassie's father, Hank Voight, has been out of prison.
Things at the firehouse have finally started to calm down, except for the fact that Gabby Dawson has now become a firefighter leaving Cassie on ambulance 61 with either Chout or McAuley until they find a replacement.
Despite Gabby's multiple attempts to assure Cassie it wasn't her fault that Gabby left, Cassie doesn't really believe it. However, Cassie is still proud of Gabby for pursuing her dreams either way. The talk they had a few weeks ago to clear the air and any hard feelings was...rough. To say the least.
Jay also took the job in intelligence under Cassie’s father so that was exciting.
Cassie is still shocked that Gabby didn't want to date Jay, he's a great guy. Not that Cassie would ever go for him, she's still his #1 wingman. Or woman. Wing-woman.
"Alright, everyone settle down. This is Sylvie Brett, she will be the new paramedic under Cassie." Boden announces at the morning briefing. Cassie sent a small wave to the new paramedic from where she was standing at the back of the room.
"Cassie is your PIC, anything you say or do on the job must go through her. Understand?"
"Yes sir." Sylvie said at the front of the room next to Chief Boden.
"Okay. That's all. Go out there, do your jobs and do ‘em good." Boden then said leaving the room before everyone else.
"Hi," Cassie said now walking over to her new partner.
"Hey, it's so nice to meet you, i've heard a lot." Sylvie said shaking the other paramedics hand.
"Thanks, it's nice to meet you too. I'm gonna say we should head over to the ambo to check inventory, is there anything you want to let me know before we start?" Cassie asks making Sylvie give her a questionable look.
"Yeah that sounds good. Would you be able to clarify what you mean by-"
"Ah, sorry. It's a force of habit with the rotators. I've been stuck with Chout for the last week and he's very...excited…like at all times. Then there was McAuley who was literally the embodiment of Debby Downer, I don't know I guess I was just asking if you were going to have some odd, personality thing that I would have to get used to." Cassie said chuckling as they make their way to the apparatus.
"Okay yeah that makes sense. Um I hope I don't have any personality thing, but if I do please feel free to let me know." Sylvie said chuckling nervously.
Smiling at Sylvie's innocence Cassie felt like they were going to be good partners.
"No complaints so far, I like you Brett."
After a few shifts of working together, Cassie and Brett felt like they fell into a pretty nice rhythm. It felt natural how well they communicated and worked together.
At the end of the last shift however, Cassie was visited by a victim's family member. A patient she had treated when she briefly worked with Peter Mills before he eventually left to work at his family's restaurant. The patient had passed before they arrived at the hospital, and the father was more than upset with Mills. Something that Cassie had no control over.
"I need to speak with you," Cassie heard the all too familiar voice of Anthony Lullo called out.
The memory of meeting with Peter and Chief flashed through Cassie's brain where Peter had convinced both of them that Anthony wouldn't be a problem anymore.
"Looking back I'm glad that I didn't file a police report on him. He's in deep grief, and he deserves a pass on this." Peter's voice flashed through Cassie's mind.
Deserved a pass her ass, but she wasn't going to undermine Peter. He trusted his gut, and she trusted him. So, here they were.
"Mr. Lullo, please, I'm sorry for what happened but I really need to get home." Cassie said as she walked past him to her car.
"You're going to regret that." Is all Mr. Lullo responded with before leaving.
"Hey Chief, I just wanted to let you know that Anthony Lullo made another visit to the firehouse after last shift. He said he needed to speak with me and when I continued walking saying I need to get to home he mumbled something under his breath. I don't really know what he said, but just thought you would like to know." Cassie said making a pit stop to Boden's office who gave her a reassuring nod before she left.
"Who's Anthony Lullo?" Sylvie asked when her and Cassie were doing inventory for the ambulance.
"How do you know who that is?" Cassie asked confused.
"He approached me when I was coming into work today, told me to tell you that you need to talk to him. I don't know, I was just confused." Sylvie said defensively not really trying to get on Cassie's bad side already.
Taking a deep breath Cassie looked at Sylvie.
"Anthony Lullo was a patient's father that ended up coding before we made it to the hospital. I haven't seen him in a few weeks but it was starting to become harassment with how much he was coming around the firehouse. He ended up threatening my old partner, Peter Mills. It was this whole situation. I don't know why he's back though." Cassie admitted making Sylvie nod her head in understanding.
A silence fell through the girls as they finished looking through the medications in the ambulance before a call came through the intercom.
"Ambulance 61. Injuries from a fall. 815 South Nebraska."
"That's around the corner," Cassie said as they hopped out from the back.
"Can I drive?" Sylvie asked making Cassie chuckle.
"Sure."
Pulling up to the scene, Cassie and Sylvie immediately jump out looking for the victim. When they finally found him on the side of the street Cassie looked at Sylvie.
"Where'd he fall from?" Cassie asked as she looked at their surroundings, no visible places for a fall.
"You fell, sir?" Sylvie asked as she was putting her gloves on.
"My legs, my legs!" The victim screamed.
"Okay, can you take some deep breaths for me?" Sylvie asked as she began examining him.
Cassie still looking around as to what could've caused this injury, she saw a dump truck down the road. Uncovering blanket from the man's legs she sighed.
"He didn't fall. He was run over." She said agitatedly getting up and calling into her radio.
Once they finished doing what they could, they strapped the now unconscious patient onto the gurney
"He passed out from the blood loss. Let's get him to Chicago Med." Cassie said as they were working on getting him into the ambulance.
Quickly grabbing both the girl’s attention, a car pulled into the alley blocking in the ambulance.
"Who's that?" Sylvie asked with Cassie immediately recognizing the car.
*6 hours later*
"Halstead. Thanks for coming. Nice to have somebody we could trust on this." Matt says greeting the detective.
"Absolutely. Still no word from your paramedics?"
"No."
"Dumb question, anybody try their cells?"
"Yeah. No answer."
Once the pair find their way to the ambulance Jay immediately starts getting suspicious.
"Were they dispatched to this location?" He asks, heart dropping at the realization.
"Yeah."
"This could've been a set up." He said turning around and immediately seeing the hula dancer on the dashboard of the ambulance. The one he got as a gift for Cassie.
"What the hell happened here..." He mutters.
*6 hours earlier.*
"Hey, guys, we got a medical emergency here. We're gonna need you to move the vehicle." Cassie announces at the men who just stepped out of their car.
"Hands in the air. Keep your mouths shut." One of the two say as they both raise their guns at the paramedics.
"Woah." Sylvie mutters earning a glance from Cassie.
"Turn around!" One of them shouts making the other instantly yell at him.
"Keep it down! Now turn around put your hands behind your back." He says more quietly turning Cassie roughly.
"This guy needs to get to the hospital!" Sylvie yells getting another glance from Cassie.
"Brett, Brett. Hey don't hurt her please." Cassie says as they make their way to the car away from the patient.
"What is this?!" Sylvie shrieks.
"This doesn't have to be messy, just do what we say." One of them says as they throw the girls into the car.
"Please, let her go. I'm the one that he wants!" Cassie yells.
"He? Who's he?" One of them says with a smirk slamming the door in their faces.
"Where are you taking us?" Cassie asks as one of the men starts patting her down in the backseat.
"Shut up!" The man says as he gets a little too grope-y.
"Where's your phone, hun?" The driver asks as he reaches over for Sylvie in the front seat.
"Left hand jacket pocket." Shes says quietly as he grabs it and chucks it out the window.
"God, why did I have to be stuck with the grabby one." Cassie says looking at the man with a gun to her head.
As he pushed it farther into her temple she winced at the familiar feeling.
"Look, Jason Lullo sustained fatal injuries long before we arrived at the scene!" Cassie says earning an eye roll from the driver.
"Don't know what you're talking about. Just keep quiet now." He says as he continues driving recklessly.
"You gonna kill us?" Cassie quietly asked as she looked the man in the eye through the rear view mirror.
"You know everything is that it?" He asks with a smirk.
"Brett." Cassie quietly says as she looks out the window.
"Quiet!" The man with her said as he shoved the gun farther into her head.
"Brett, brace yourself." Cassie says before head butting the gun out of the man's hand and kneeing him in the face. Quickly kicking him in the groin after, Cassie moved over in the seat she wasn't buckled into and kicked the driver in the side of the head. Keeping her foot against his throat, this caused the driver to spin the wheel uncontrollably, inevitably crashing into a random scrap yard and making contact with a trailer trapping them inside.
*6 hours later*
Eventually finding the car, Jay and Cruz immediately get out to check it out. The thoughts running through Jay's head have him trembling more than he ever has on any case he’s worked before.
"Hey, this is Detective Halstead of intelligence, I'm gonna need you to run an Illinois passenger tag." Jay says into his phone watching Cruz check the car.
"Halstead...We got nothing. Car's empty. Looks like everyone made it out." Cruz says making his way back to the Detective.
"This happened hours ago. If Lullo's got them, they're dead!" Cruz says spinning out.
"Don't assume anything." Jay says trying to cover up his anxiety so he doesn't freak Cruz out any more.
"The hematoma's recollecting!" Cassie says looking at the driver's wounds.
"I thought you fixed him!" The other man says pointing a gun at the two.
"He needs medical attention." Sylvie says with attitude.
"Isn't that your job!?"
"Hey, we're paramedics, not doctors. You need to get him to an ER now." Cassie shouts back.
"This is your fault anyway, with that smart-ass stunt. Fix him, or i'll put a bullet in your head." The man says pointing the gun at Cassie again.
"This lump on your buddy's neck is due to internal bleeding. As it grows it presses on his trachea and that's what's causing the difficulty in breathing. It's only going to get worse!" Cassie says back to the man.
"So cut it open again!"
"That's only a temporary fix!" Sylvie now says butting herself into the conversation.
"Look. He's going to die unless we get this bleed tied off. We need to get to the hospital." Cassie says to the gunman.
"Might as well waltz into a police station!" The gunman says turning away from them.
"No hospitals." The driver on the make shift table mutters.
As his phone starts ringing he hands it to the other gunman.
"Don't answer it. Not if we're giving him bad news." He says obviously in pain.
"C-can't you guys tie off the bleed?" The very stressed out gunman asks.
"No," Sylvie says but not before Cassie says maybe.
"What? Cassie that's surgery."
"Look, if we do this, will you let us go?" Cassie asks looking at the guy.
"Okay. Deal." The gunman says walking off as he answers the second phone call.
"So this is what we think Cassie and Brett were in?" Gabby says looking worriedly at the car Cruz and Jay found.
"Yeah." Matt says sorrowfully as he opens the very, very, torn up door.
"Jay." She says as Detective Halstead made his way over to where she was standing.
"Gabby." He greets back.
"We gotta find them." She says looking at Halstead.
"We're uh, we're trying." He says almost breaking.
"Guys, I got some blood here!" Severide yells out pointing at the driver seat.
"Okay, at least one occupant is injured. Maybe they didn't get too far.” Jay says taking a step back to think.
“Okay, come here, everyone. Now!" Jay yells gesturing at the surrounding cops and firefighters.
"I want a tight perimeter, I want a K-9 unit, and I want a door to door search of the entire neighborhood. If you see anything that you think might be out of place, I want to hear about it." He says sending them off to their assigned tasks.
"Jay." Gabby says approaching him again.
"Hm?"
"She's my friend too. We'll find her." She says squeezing his shoulder reassuringly getting a tight lipped nod in return.
"Knife." Cassie says taking the blade from Sylvie and pressing it to the driver's neck.
Quickly pulling a gun on her she takes a step back.
"Hey! If you want me to do this, set the gun down now." She shouts a little startled.
As the other gunman takes the gun from the driver's hand, he sets it on a nearby surface.
"Okay. This is going to hurt, a lot. But I'm gonna do it fast. Kay?" Cassie asks getting a nod.
As Cassie made the incision on the driver's neck, she quickly turns around to set the blade down and grab something to use as a clamp.
"Hey, hey, that was the easy part okay?" Cassie says coming back and looking at the incision as he passed out from the pain.
"Hey, hey! What the hell did you guys do, what happened to him!?" The gunman yelled earning glares from both the paramedics.
"He passed out from the pain." Sylvie said now looking back down at the patient.
"Clamp it right here." Sylvie said looking at Cassie as she pointed to his carotid artery.
"You do realize what that will do right?" Cassie whispers with wide eyes.
Glancing down at the bloody table, Sylvie wrote 'Let him die.' in the man's blood.
After deliberating for a few seconds, Cassie shakes her head no and clamps the bleed. Looking back at Brett who scribbled out the words, Cassie gave her a specific look.
"Why so quiet?" The gunman asked.
"I uh, I'm clamping it off now." Cassie says as she took the blade out of the exacto knife they had and handed it to Brett.
"Okay, we're going to need to find someone to suture him up but he should be fine. Cassie says stepping away.
"You. Come here." The gunman says grabbing Brett's arm and taking her across the room.
"Hey! Wait! We had a deal, I need her!" Cassie says yelling at the man.
"I need to make sure he's okay first." The gunman says as he zip ties Brett's hands together.
As the man starts waking up, Cassie finishes putting some gauze his wound.
"See? All good." Cassie says looking at him.
"We'll see." The gunman says.
"The deal was, we fix him up and you let us leave!" Sylvie yells. Loud enough for Detective Halstead who's outside the door to hear. Something they're unaware of.
"I know what the deal was!" The man yells back.
"We gotta go now and the doors bolted, can you guys get us in!?" Jay yells at Casey who is already radioing for Severide.
"You said you'd rein in your partner, so how about it?" Brett yells as she secretly cuts the zip tie off her hands.
"Will you shut up!" He yells as he gets ahold of Cassie and holds a gun to her head.
"I knew we couldn't trust you two." Sylvie mutters as she finishes getting the zip tie off her hands.
"Drop the gun." Sylvie says catching the driver's , the gunman's, and Cassie's attention with the driver's gun in her hands.
"I said drop it!"
With a nod from the driver, the gunman shoots at Sylvie but not before Cassie moves his arm out of the way so the bullet catches the floor. As he fights back and fires again, Cassie is still holding his arm so his aim is off.
With his other arm that had a hold of Cassie, he lets her go to elbow her in the nose. Once he drops his elbow, Cassie punches the guy in the face. She then knocked him on his ass after he catches a kick in the balls.
As Cassie gets away to grab Brett, he continues firing at the paramedics.
Fleeing into another room and locking the door, Sylvie looks around to see that they're trapped.
"Shit." She mutters as Cassie blocks her from the bullets flying through the door.
"Stay behind me." Cassie says as she grabbed a metal pipe, preparing for when he breaks into the room.
Once he does the door flies off the hinges, and all of their attention's turn to the next sound.
"Chicago PD! Don't move, drop your weapon! Do it now!" Jay yells as they charge into the warehouse.
Watching as the gunman put his hands up surrenderence, Jay continues making his way to the gunman.
"Put your weapon down, get down on the ground. Now! Hands up behind your head!"
"Voight! Brett!" Casey yells as the girls make their way back to the other side of the door.
"We were in here." Sylvie says making her way through the door first, Cassie quickly following behind as she dropped the pipe and clutched her nose up. Probably broken.
"Anyone hurt?" Casey asks.
"Not me, Cassie got an elbow to the face though." Sylvie says breathing heavily.
"Sylvie!" Cruz says running up to her and pulling her into a big hug.
"Cassie," Jay says softly looking at his best friend once he got cuffs on the bad guy.
Basically falling into Jay's arms, Cassie quickly forgot about her nose.
"Hey, hey, hey, you're okay. Shh, you're okay." Jay said brushing his hand through the back of her hair as she sobbed into his shoulder.
"Hey Cass." Gabby said making her way over to the girl.
As she pulled away from Jay's chest, she didn't leave his grasp as his hand still rested on her hip.
"Hey," she said pretty nasally as the Gabby pulled her into a hug of her own.
"Some pretty good partner bonding, huh?" Gabby asked making her chuckle.
"I'm glad you're okay." Casey finally says patting her on the back.
"Thank you, guys." Cassie said turning back to Jay.
"You need to go to the hospital." He said looking at her eyes that are already turning black and blue, along with her swollen nose.
"What? You calling this ugly?" She asked teasingly as they started walking out of the warehouse.
"No, no, just. Colorful?"
Playfully hitting him in the chest with a shocked expression, Jay quickly told another cop to take the perp in to the station and that he was going to go to the hospital with Cassie.
"So, your nose is pretty broken. If you look here, there's a slight fracture. We're gonna tape some gauze around it. Make sure you keep it on for the next 12 hours and rewrap it every 8-12 hours, for the next 48. It should heal in no time, make sure you ice it and take some pain meds." Doctor Rhodes explained to both Jay and Cassie in the trauma room.
"So i'm good to go?" She asked a little impatiently.
"Uh, yes. Maggie is getting your discharge papers now, but I do want to take a look at this hand." He said lightly grabbing her hand and examining her swollen knuckles. Sending butterflies through her stomach too.
"Oh, no, it's fine. I just ice it with pain meds and the swelling usually goes down within 24." Cassie said smiling and making a fist and opening her palm a few times in a row.
"Hm. Okay," Connor said sighing and looking between Cassie and Jay. "I'll get those papers to you. It's nice to see you're okay Cassie. Really." He finished with a warm smile and walking out of the room.
Jay quickly looked at Cassie's blushing face and starts laughing.
"You like him!" Jay teased making her blush harder.
"I do not!" She yelled back hitting him lightly.
"No, no, you like him like him, don't you?" Jay continued earning an eye roll.
"Okay so what if I do. I see him when I bring patients in sometimes...drop it." She said looking away.
"Okayyy." Jay said all sing-song-y making her roll her eyes again.
"Knock knock." her father said walking into the room.
"Hey, thanks for staying with her but you can leave now. Brett is down at the station but i'm gonna need you to question this Anthony Lullo when Cassie gets down there." He said looking at Jay earning a nod.
"I'll see you later." Jay said with a tight lipped smile as he walked out.
"You okay?" Voight asked making her nod.
"Yeah, all good. Fractured my nose, but I think I did the same to him plus some manhood damage." Cassie said making them both chuckle.
“I apologize for not being here sooner. Alvin and I were picking up the guys from the warehouse and finding Lullo. I have a question for you though.”
“What is it?” Cassie asked.
“How about you come stay with me for the next few weeks. You know, until this whole thing blows over and we know you’re safe.”
“What? You’re kidding right?” Cassie said laughing at his offer.
“Do I look like I’m kidding?” Hank asks crossing his arms over his chest.
“Thanks, but no thanks.” Cassie says hopping off the trauma bed and grabbing her things.
“Look, you thought this thing ended what, three? four weeks ago? Then look at what happened today. Just until it blows over? Okay?”
Without saying anything Cassie just looks at her father and stares.
“Okay?” He asks again.
“No, not okay. Jay literally lives across the hall from me. If anything happens, I’ll be fine. I know self defensive, I can hold my own.” Cassie says defensively walking out of the trauma room.
Signing the discharge papers at the nurses desk, Cassie walked out of the hospital with Voight quick to follow.
“Can you please just listen to me on this?” Voight asked opening the passenger side door for Cassie.
“No.” Cassie then said slamming it once she got in.
“I’m gonna go downstairs with Alvin, I’ll meet you guys upstairs with Jay and Anthony. You and Sylvie will be on the other side of the mirror.” Hank said kissing Cassie’s temple as they both walked into the 21st.
“Who’s downstairs?” Cassie asked knowing what he’s going to do.
“Guys who like holding female paramedics hostage in a warehouse.” He said walking off.
“Cassie. Nice to see you again.” Trudy said greeting Cassie.
“Hey sarge. So since i’m a civilian now aren’t you supposed to have someone walk me to the interrogation room?” Cassie teased once she got to the sergeant’s desk.
Sighing, Trudy removed her reading glasses and looked at the girl.
“That was supposed to be your father’s job. I’ll do it though. Yo chump! Watch the desk until I get back.” Trudy says coming around and showing Cassie to a room she knew all too well.
“We have numerous witnesses saying they saw you make a serious threat against Peter Mills. Then showed up again to talk to Cassie Voight.” Cassie heard Jay say once she walked on the other side of the glass.
“My son was dead. I was upset.” says Anthony.
“Yeah, that certainly squares with the eyewitness statements. ‘Mr. Lullo was livid.’ , ‘Full of rage.’ , ‘Frothing at the mouth.’” Jay finally said setting the paper down in front of Lullo.
“Look, I went over there and I apologized to Peter Mills, and he accepted my apology. He’s a good kid.”
“But what about the part where you visited Cassie Voight? Multiple times, even after Peter Mills had stopped working at Firehouse 51.” Jay asked.
“I don’t understand what’s going on here. I thought you caught the men that took those paramedics?”
“You didn’t answer my question.” Jay said smiling at the man.
“Cassidy ignored my invitation to talk. Nothing happened since.” Lullo says sitting back into his chair.
“But why did you want to talk Cassie? I thought your issue was with Mills?” Jay asked trying to agitate him.
“Yes, but Cassie knew more.” Lullo muttered.
“What do you mean Cassie knew more?” Jay pressed.
“Nothing.”
“Oh c’mon Anthony. What did Cassie know?” Jay asked trying to poke the bear further.
“Cassie knew how slow she drove killing my son. Cassie knows that she is the cause of his death.” He admitted
“Your son was already dead by the time we got to the scene. We just prolonged how long it was before the inevitable happened, which was his heart stopping due to blood loss.” Cassie yelled as she bursted into the interrogation room, startling both Jay and Lullo.
“I don’t think she’s allowed in here detective.” Lullo said looking at Jay.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”Jay said covering for Cassie.
“Your son died due to his injuries. There was nothing we could do, but you need someone to blame. Is that it? Pointing a finger at someone that’s not you, or your kid?” Cassie asked trying to piss the man off.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about.” Lullo said chuckling and looking away.
“I think I do. Because if I didn’t, you wouldn’t be deflecting right now. If I didn’t you would still be pretending that you’re content with the fact it wasn’t one person’s fault that your kids dead.” Cassie said matter of factly.
When she didn’t get a response she scoffed.
“So you’re okay with that? That no one killed your son, and it was just his injuries? Oh c’mon. You need someone to blame. To fill your urge and get revenge. That someone killed him and they need to pay. Right?” Cassie asked.
“You killed him! If anyone killed my son it was that bitch! She was the one driving!” Lullo yelled surprising everyone.
“Your son was already dead before we even arrived at the hospital! It had absolutely nothing to do with my driving, and everything to do with the fatal injuries he sustained.” Cassie yelled back at the man not knowing how many times she could repeat herself over this matter.
“You all say that, but if you drove faster, he would’ve made it to the hospital, and he would’ve lived!” Anthony said standing and pointing at Cassie.
“Is that why you stalked me then? It was never about Mills was it? It was about the fact that I didn’t drive fast enough. So you stalked and harassed me, then hired someone to take me out?” Cassie pressed causing him to basically fume from the ears.
“Yes! You deserved to know what it was like to ride half alive while the person who was supposed to be helping you couldn’t care less about getting you help!” Lullo yelled.
“So you ordered a hit on me?” Cassie asked again. Waiting for the confession.
“Yes!” He seethed earning a content smile from Cassie.
“Jay, I believe you can handle this from here.” Cassie said walking out of the room.
Later on once they officially arrested Lullo and everyone was gathered in the bullpen, Cassie decided to stay behind and talk to her father.
“Hey, we wouldn’t have gotten him if you didn’t intervene. Good job, Cass.” Jay said patting her on the back.
“Jay, Cassie, my office.” Hank announced earning a confused look from the both of them.
“Uh oh, principal’s daughter called to his office?” Antonio joked getting an eye roll in return.
“I watched what happened.” Hank said as they shut the door.
“What do you mean?” Cassie asked confused.
“I mean I saw you get the confession from Lullo. I want you to know, I get that you didn’t like being a patrolmen. But, when I give you this offer you need to think about it from a detective’s perspective. You have all the training, you would even be able to start tomorrow. You have the balls. We need you. Cassidy, do you want to join intelligence?” Hank asked making her jaw drop.

“You know what? I’m gonna do it.” You say confidently as you throw back another shot.
“Oh, Y/N, that’s not what I-” Erin begins but stops as she sees you’ve already walked away.
“Too late. It’s time to let her go.” Adam says half teasing half seriously.
“They grow up so fast don’t they?” Alvin adds pretending to wipe a tear from under his eye.
The group of colleagues from Chicago PD’s intelligence unit sat back and watched as their shy, introverted, and currently drunk intern walked up to their tech guy.
“$20 she chickens out.” Adam spoke up again as they all wait in anticipation for what’s about to happen.
“$50 she doesn’t.” Kim says with faith.
Running a hand through your hair as you approach your long time office crush, you notice the all too familiar nervous feeling enter your stomach. Not today. Quickly grabbing another shot from a random person at the bar, the burn that rolls down your throat was exactly what you needed. Taking another breath you continue on your original path.
“Mouse,” you say catching both his and Detective Halstead’s attention once you approach them at the bar.
“Y/N, hi-” he says before being quickly interrupted with your lips on his.
After a few seconds without him kissing you back, you pull away.
Pressing a few fingers against your lips as you cannot believe what you’ve just done, you look at Mouse’s shocked expression with blushing cheeks and wide eyes.
“I-I’m sorry. That was a mistake. I- um. excuse me.” You say embarrassed as ever and walking away.
“Y/N, wait.” He says grabbing your arm opting for you turn around.
“No, I get it. Can we just pretend this never happened?” You ask overwhelmed with regret.
Cupping your face with both of his hands, Mouse places one of the most delicate pecks on your lips only parting slightly before you pull him in again, this time more aggressive.
Finally pulling away when someone clears their throat, you touch your lips again but this time with lust.
“Do you want to get out of here?” He asks with his hands still on your face.
“You read my mind.”
*Everyone’s reactions*
Erin: “Well, that turned out better than I expected.”
Adam: “I feel like I’m witnessing something I shouldn’t, but I can’t tear my eyes away.”
Kim: *clears throat*, “$50 please.”
Jay: “Atta boy.”

“Are you sure you’re ready to go back? We can wait if you aren’t ready-”
“I’m ready. I can’t be trapped in these four walls for another day.” You call back to your husband as you finish your hair.
“Okay. How do I look?” You ask rolling yourself into the living room to show your him.
“Absolutely perfect.” He says bending down to kiss your cheek.
Once you arrive at the firehouse, you had Matt push you up the apparatus. You weren’t feeling uneasy until now. Nervous butterflies littering your stomach.
“Wait.” You say making your husband stop once you’ve made it in the garage.
“What? What’s wrong?”
“What are they going to think?” You mutter quietly looking up at him.
Bending down on one knee, Matt combs his fingers through your hair.
“That you’re a fighter. One of the bravest most stubborn people we know. Only you would be able to come out of an accident that left you with a 5% chance of survival. Then the first thing you do after only being home for a week from the hospital, is come back to the place your passion first started? You’re a fighter, Y/N.” He says placing a kiss on your forehead.
“Thank you. I’m ready.” You say with a deep breath.

The sound of the diner door rang through Cassie's ears snapping her out of her trance.
Looking down at the warm coffee she's had her hands cupped around for the last twenty minutes she frowns as she realizes it's grown cold.
"Hey, sorry I'm late." Jay says sliding into the booth across from Cassie.
"Hi, no you're good. No worries," She says with a small smile looking at the man.
For the last five months Jay and Cassie have spent every morning in this diner. Talking, sitting, bonding. Ever since the night Jay found Cassie, he's refused to leave her alone. He's vowed to never let Cassie get to the point again, and if she does it would have to be over his dead body.
It took awhile for Cassie to understand why he would care about her so much. Why he put so much effort into making sure she was okay, but eventually she quit asking questions and let him in.
"Do you want to grab a coffee?" Jay asks as he clicked Cassie's floor in the elevator.
"Uh, yeah, I'd like that. But um, how did you know what floor my apartments on?" Cassie asked skeptically looking at Jay.
"Oh, I didn't. I guess we live on the same floor." Jay says with a shy smile.
Cassie followed Jay out of the elevator confused again when he stops outside her apartment.
"Okay, this is getting weird Jay." She says chuckling and nervously rubbing the back of her neck.
"What? Why? This is me," He said unlocking the door to the apartment across from hers.
Rolling her lips into a line out of embarrassment, she pointed at her apartment door and muttered, "This is me..." Earning a snicker from Jay.
Eventually ending up in a small diner down the street from their building, they were both relieved when they saw the 'Open 24 hours' sign in the window.
"So, what were you doing up there?" Jay finally asked taking a sip of his coffee.
Met with silence he took a breath before continuing, "Look, I told you why I went up there. But you never told me why you were there." He said looking at Cassie.
Biting her lip, she didn't even know where to begin.
"Can we start with something else?" She asks looking back at him.
"Of course."
"I'm a paramedic at firehouse 51,"
"I thought you were a cop?"
"Used to be," Cassie said with a smile repeating what she said before. "How'd you figure that out anyway?"
"Glock 19. Most cops use that as their sidearm. Lucky guess." Jay said smiling back at her.
"Are you a cop?" Cassie asked curiously
"Detective. I work in organized crime over at the 21st."
"Ah. I didn't really make it past the patrolman stage over at the 31st." Cassie said with a sigh.
"But you're a paramedic now?"
"Yes, figured the education could be useful and then I fell in love with the rush. I just don't think I'm made for the streets." Cassie admitted finishing her coffee.
"I bet you'd thrive as a detective in a special unit. Not very many cops enjoy uniform."
After deciding that ordering food would be a good choice, Cassie and Jay continued talking and getting to know each other. But Cassie knew what she needed to tell him.
"I was up there because I ruined everything." Cassie started immediately hooking Jay's attention.
"I just fuck everything up, and I guess I couldn't handle it anymore. I convinced myself that the world would be better off without me..." Cassie said tearing up again, flinching a little when Jay placed his hand over her's.
Once Cassie explained everything that's happened, she felt relieved that she was able to open up to someone. That she didn't have to bottle it up and keep to herself. But when she looked up and saw the very prominent look of pity plaguing Jay's face all of the horrible feelings rushed back.
"This was a mistake." Cassie admitted quickly getting up.
Following her, Jay threw some money down on the table and basically chased her out of the diner.
"Cassie! Wait!" He said getting a little dejavu from just a few hours before.
"Jay, I'm broken. I've ruined everything, and there's nothing anyone can do to fix it. I'm lost cause just let me go." Cassie said stopping on the sidewalk turning around to face him.
"If you want me to let you go, why did you turn around to spare my feelings?" He asked confusing her.
"What?"
"If you truly felt like you were a lost cause, you would've kept walking. You wouldn't have stopped and turned around to tell me to let you go. You would've ran." He says stepping closer to her frozen figure.
"Let me help you. We're friends now, whether you like it or not. Im not leaving you in the dust... Let me help you." He says again now reaching for her hand.
Taking a shaky breath, Cassie had no more fight in her. It was either this, or death. And she knew she couldn't choose the latter.
Muttering a quiet, 'okay', Cassie took Jay's hand and sobbed into his shoulder once he pulled her in.
*Present Day*
"How've you been?" Jay asked thanking their waitress as she set down his usual.
"I've been okay. I guess my dad is getting out of prison soon. Everyone at the firehouse is mad at me." Cassie said sighing and stirring some sugar into her cold coffee.
"That's not your fault though? Why are they blaming you?" Jay asked making her smile.
"Exactly my thoughts." She admitted.
"How are things going with your undercover thing at Molly's?" Cassie asks earning a knowing look from Jay.
"You know I can't tell you, but I feel bad for Gabby. I hate going behind her back like this." Jay says getting an eye roll from Cassie.
"But in the end you're helping her. Everything with this Arthur guy will be over and she'll have her bar back. I think she'll get over it." Cassie says diverting her attention to her phone which pinged with a text. A text from Erin.
Frowning and picking up her phone, she looked back at Jay who waved her off.
"Go. If you need anything, reach out. Love you Cas." Jay says standing with her and giving her a brief hug.
"Will do, love you too." Cassie said with an eye roll and exiting the diner.
To say Cassie had anxiety would be an understatement. She hasn't talked to Erin in over 6 months, and now she's reaching out. Cassie replied to her first message as she left the diner, but nothing prepared her for Erin's response.
Erin: "I'm at your apartment. Where are you?"
Cassie: "On my way. Had a breakfast with a friend. 3 minutes out, sit tight?
Erin: "I let myself in."
Cassie never bothered to take the notes off her kitchen island. They were reminders as to why she stayed. If Erin found those...God, Cassie really hoped she hadn't.
"Hey," Cassie announced as she walked into her apartment with her voice immediately trailing off at the sight.
Freezing in her doorway, she was starting to feel the same exact way she did when she last saw him. Trembling and on the verge of collapsing.
"Cassidy." She heard as she watched the man she once considered her father turn around, with a paper in hand. Jeez where was Jay when she needed him.
"I uh, I thought you weren't getting out for another few days..." Cassie managed to say as she got herself to move. Slowly walking over to her kitchen island, where two of the five notes were opened. Shakily setting her keys down on the countertop, she looked up finally seeing Erin.
"Got out on good behavior. I guess it could be considered the easy way out. You know how that works, don't you?" Her father asked raising the note in his hand slightly to show he was using it as an example. He was using her weakness against her.
Cassie, visibly shaking now, turned her attention back to Erin who was wiping tears from her eyes. Yeah Cassie wasn't going to be able to get through this sober. Turning around quickly and grabbing the bottle of liquor she hasn't touched since the night she wrote those notes, she quickly got the cap off and drank straight from the bottle.
"Cassie, it's 11 a.m," Erin said finally speaking up.
"Well. It's 5 o'clock somewhere." Cassie said chuckling and taking another drink. Finally setting the cap-less bottle on the counter, Cassie made her way out of the kitchen and into her living room.
"If either of you would like a drink, help yourselves. You're pretty good at that right? Helping yourselves?" Cassie asked almost furiously and sitting on her couch. She did not do all this work for the last 5 months for it all to go down the drain the second they come back. Jay would be proud right?
"What are you doing?" Hank finally asked as he watched his daughter.
"Waiting for the lecture." She said sighing and earning a scoff from both of them.
"Cassidy, what the hell is this?" He finally asked grabbing one of the chairs and sitting it across from Cassie who's on the couch.
"A letter." She said belching and looking over to Erin who hasn't moved.
"Come sit. We're having a family reunion, or just reunion since I'm not considered family."
"Cassie, if you need help why didn't you reach out." Erin said finally walking over to them.
"I was told that I actually wasn’t allowed to do that.” Cassie said pressing her lips into a line.
“Do not play that card. You know if you ever needed help, we would’ve been there in a heartbeat.” Her father said sternly.
“Yeah. Right. Also those are from a few months ago, so if you guys had a plan to try and talk me off the brink of suicide, you're a little too late." Cassie said a matter of factly with a shrug.
“Cassie this isn’t some joke, you need help.” Erin said earning a scoff from Cassie.
“You know what? Screw you guys. You do not just get to break into my apartment, dig into my personal belongings, and then lecture me about how i’ve lived my life since you’ve been out of it.” Cassie now said with tears running down her face.
“You’re right. We’re sorry.” Is all her father said on the matter leaving an uncomfortable silence between the three of them.
Rolling her eyes at his apology Erin moves to sit next to Cassie. Taking a breath, Erin touches the side of Cassie’s face, wiping a tear out from under her eye.
“We shouldn’t have opened the letters. It was an invasion of privacy and we had no right. But Cassie, the world would not be a better place without you.” Erin says crying completely now.
“Cassidy. I love you more than words would ever be able to describe. You’re a spitting image of your mother and that scares me. Especially after she passed, the way you talk, the way you dress, even the way you style your hair is just like Camille. I was a coward, and I shut you out. I dove head first into work. I expected too much from you, and I’m sorry. You were right about Justin, he did need help, and you opened my eyes. We came here to apologize, Cas. I would’ve came sooner but I figured with me in prison and you needing time…I thought it would be better this way. You will always be apart of this family if you like it or not. Family does not turn their backs on each other, and I did just that. It was wrong.” Trailing off with his words Cassie’s father hangs his head in shame. Cassie has never seen her father cry, and probably never will. But this is pretty close to it.
“I can’t just forgive you guys like that.” Cassie admits stubbornly. “But I appreciate the apologies.” She adds again looking at the ceiling.
“That’s fine. It’s a start. How about you come over for Sunday dinner?” Erin asks combing Cassie’s hair with her fingers again.
“So you don’t feel left out, we haven’t had it in a few months. With Justin and I locked up…” Hank trails off looking at his daughters.
“I’d like that.” Cassie says taking a breath. She never thought she’d see the day they made up. Hell, the Cassie 5 months ago never thought she’d see any day again. But thanks to Jay, she’s still here. Alive and well. Shit, Jay. She’s really going to have to fill him in tomorrow.
The next few shifts at the firehouse were bearable. Yeah the silent treatments and the whispers were a little annoying, but what was she going to do? Her father is her father, she can’t hate him forever. Sorry Casey.
“How are they allowing him back out on the streets, let alone allowing him to run a special unit for the CPD? He’s a dirty cop, and he’s dangerous. He hates Antonio yet tried to recruit him for this and-”
“Gabby, there’s nothing I can do. If anyone hates him it’s me, trust me. But there’s nothing we can do.” Is all Matt says in response.
“I don’t know how Cassie can just let him back in her life like that though. He put you through hell-”
“Sorry Gabby, but i’m not going to never talk to my father again just because he had a fight with Matt Casey.” Cassie interrupts walking into the locker room.
“Well it was more than a fight, he harassed Matt for weeks,”
“And how do you think he treated my ex boyfriends? The man will do anything for his kids, even if it isn’t the right thing. I get that he put you through hell Matt, I really do and I’m sorry. But I did my time. I didn’t have any contact with my family for 6 months while I stood by you with that report, so sue me for eventually making up with my father. Now I would appreciate it if the whispers, and looks of resentment or pity would end, and you guys would stop having my families name in your mouth.” Cassie says leaving the other two in the locker room flabbergasted as she walked out.
The next day when Cassie was off shift and meeting Jay for their daily coffees, to her surprise Jay was there before her.
“Good-morning sunshine, you’re not late today!” Cassie congratulated as she slid into the booth across from Jay.
“Gabby’s not happy with you.” Is all he says with a sly smirk making Cassie roll her eyes.
“Oh boy!” She says with fake enthusiasm as she thanks the waitress for her coffee.
“Yep. Gabby also found out i’ve been undercover this whole time.” He admits anxiously looking at Cassie.
“Oh. You really like her, huh?”
“You jealous?”
“Absolutely not.” Cassie says unconvincingly as she sips her coffee.
“I have to meet Arthur in an hour, I’m hoping this will be the last time and I’ll be able to get a confession for the Game Day fire.” Jay says like he’s stalling.
“That’s good.” Cassie hums skeptically, not really caring about this whole undercover operation anymore.
“But Cas, um, your father reached out to me.” Jay finally admits catching Cassie’s attention for real now.
“Oh? What did he want?” Cassie asked suspiciously.
“He said you mentioned me. Said that made him look into my background and he wants to recruit me for this Intelligence Unit he’s starting at my district.” Jay says with his eyes not leaving Cassie’s.
“Wow, that’s, good? That’s an upgrade from organized crime right?” Cassie asks not sure if Jay is happy or not.
“Yeah, yes. It is.”
“Are you going to do it?”
“I don’t know. Should I? I mean, I don’t know much about him as a cop besides rumors and what you’ve said.” Jay admits mindlessly stirring his coffee.
“He’s a good cop, he’s cleaned his act up since he went away from what I know. I know that he closes cases and puts the bad guys away. I don’t know much about his strategy, but I think it would be a good opportunity.” Cassie says honestly wanting the best for Jay.
“Okay. I’ll think about it some more. I have another question though,”
“Shoot.”
“What did you say about me?”
“Well, this last Sunday we had our first family dinner in God knows how long. I told him how you helped me get better. That you’re the only reason I’m still here today and that I value our friendship a lot.” Cassie said placing her hand on Jay’s on their table.
“You’re my best friend, Cas. You know that right?” Jay says with a smile.
“Oh don’t get all gushy on me, Halstead. But you’re my best friend too.” Cassie says with a reassuring nod at the man in front of her.

Still beating herself up and constantly second guessing her own decision, Cassie decided getting some fresh air on the apparatus would make her feel better. Or at least she thought it would. The second she step foot outside she saw her father and Matt Casey outside the station having a chat. Just her luck. Taking a deep breath before heading over to them, she’s in over her head.
“C’mon, do you have time for a drink? We can have this conversation somewhere more private.” She heard her father tell the truck lieutenant. Hell no.
“No, he doesn’t. We’re still on shift.” She said walking up to the pair bringing both of their attention’s directly to her. Crossing her arms over her chest, she stared her father in the eye. He could never handle when someone told him no.
“Cassie stay out of this. I’ll deal with you later, right now I need to talk to our friend Casey here.” Her father said shifting his attention back to Matt.
“Whatever you need to say to him, you can say with me present.” She quickly responded locking eye contact with her dad again.
“No, you lost that right when you turned around and stabbed both me and your brother in the back. You know he could get serious jail time for this, and you seem like you couldn’t be happier than to put your brother behind bars.” He snaps pointing a finger at his daughter.
“I told the truth! It is not my fault that Justin has 4 other DUI’s and this one is the one that will bump his charges up to a felony. It was his mistake and he needs to take responsibility!” Cassie snaps right back making Matt feel a little awkward to be in their family drama.
“I have a plan! I will be riding Justin’s ass until he cleans up his act. If he goes to prison you know what could happen to him for being a cop’s son, my son! Since you like to play the roles reversed card, I would do the same exact thing for you! Cassie, you need to change that report and get out of this while you can.” Voight says taking a step closer to his daughter leaving only 2 feet between them.
“Or what?” Cassie challenges now taking a step towards Voight almost closing the already small gap between them.
“You gonna kick me out of the family? Leave it to Justin to clean up both of your guys’ messes when you’re not looking? You can’t count on him and you know it, if I’m gone, you don’t even know how much shit you would be in right now. I’m the one that takes care of the both of you.” Cassie threatens making Voight scratch his jaw.
“Keep it up. See what happens.”
“Fine! If i’m gone, who’s going to be the one to truly parent and be there for Justin? Because we know it’s not going to be you!” Cassie yells almost immediately regretting her words.
Ever since their mother died, Voight buried himself in work. So the only reason Justin knows right from wrong, and how to do his own laundry, and how to shave his own face for christ sake, is because of Cassie. The only thing Voight has done was get Justin out of legal trouble when Cassie wasn’t around. Like when she was in college or the police academy.
Cassie’s words pierced Voight. Cassie was almost a spitting image of her mother and to hear these words coming out of her mouth pained him. More than he’d like to admit. But as always, he couldn’t let her win.
“Yes. You are out of the family. No more coming over for Sunday dinner, no more calling me when you need advice, and especially no more contact between you and Erin. You want out? Fine you’re out.” Voight says like he truly doesn’t care taking a step back.
“Casey. Change the report. I’m not asking.” He says finally pointing at Casey and walking away.
What has Cassie done? This is the last thing she wanted.
Cassie didn’t even notice her whole body trembling, or the fact her legs grew weak under her. Collapsing to her knees and gut wrenching sobs escaping her mouth Cassie messed up.
“This isn’t what I wanted!” Cassie sobs into her hands.
Immediately crouching to her side Matt was trying to help. Not exactly knowing what to do, he looked back at the firehouse and to his surprise he saw Boden and Gabby coming to help. Turning back to Cassie he muttered a few ‘It’s gonna be alright.’ and ‘You’re okay.’s but it wasn’t much help to her hyperventilating.
As the three of them helped Cassie to the ambulance she opted for sitting there and breathing in oxygen rather than going inside and showcasing how vulnerable she was.
Still shaking she saw Matt and Boden whispering to each other by the garage door, and Gabby was standing next to her not saying anything.
“I know what you’re thinking.” Cassie says making Gabby look at her tear stained face.
“What’s that?” Gabby says turning a little to fully face Cassidy.
“That i’m an idiot. That I shouldn’t be this torn up about being kicked out of my family because they’re bad people.” Cassie says wiping a few stray tears.
“Yes. and no. It sucks that your father’s a dirty cop, but I can tell you if this was me and Antonio I would probably be just as broken up or worse. Family is family. No matter what.” Gabby says now sitting next to Cassie.
“I know. But they’re bad people. At least that’s what everyone says. I promise he wasn’t that bad. Not before my mom died at least. After that he distanced himself from me, to the point sometimes I’d forget he was my own father. He’d always choose Justin over me. Even if he hated me he would continue putting impossible expectations on me yet letting Justin go do whatever he wanted. I tried to help out. I tried to be there for them when she died, but I was grieving too. I can’t help but feel it’s my fault that Justin is a screw up. Like I let everyone down because he kept making mistakes.” Cassie says crying again. Gabby wrapped her arm around Cassie lightly shushing her and rubbing her shoulder.
“Do you have any other siblings?” Gabby asked hoping maybe it would help.
“Yeah. My big sister Erin. She’s 5 years older than me though, she was already moved out when my mom passed. She tried to come back and help when she could, but she needed to live her life. Keep being on track to do big things. I couldn’t drag her back in with all of my grief. So we would see each other for Sunday dinners and everything would be fine.” Cassie says chuckling sarcastically at how everything was not fine.
“What if you reach out to her?” Gabby tried to say but Cassie sat up and shook her head.
“That was one of the things my father said I couldn’t do since being out of the family. No contact with Erin. I mean I get it, Justin probably hates me, my father does, but the last tie I have to anyone was Erin. So not having her means i’m truly on the outs.” Cassie pauses after letting some of this stuff sink in. Sharply inhaling she sits up and looks at Gabby who seems a little mortified.
“Hey. Sorry for dumping all my family drama on you, can we keep it between us?” Cassie asks earning a nod from Gabby.
“Sure thing.” Gabby says before Cassie gets up to walk away.
Gabby walked over to Matt and Chief Boden who seem like they’re in a heated debate for themselves.
“Matt, are you sure you don’t want to change anything? I mean, this man wasn’t afraid to kick his own daughter out of their family let alone what he would do to a random firefighter he could care less about.” Boden asked quickly glancing at Gabby as she walked up to the pair.
“I’m not changing anything. Cassie can do whatever she wants, but I’m not going to let that other family down.” Matt says not taking his eyes off Boden.
“Okay.” is all Wallace says before he walks away leaving Matt and Gabby alone.
“She seemed pretty tore up Matt. Are you sure you know what you’re doing?” Gabby asked placing a hand on Matt’s forearm.
“I got it, Gabby.” Is all he says before he too walks away, leaving her alone.
The next few weeks were pretty tough for Cassie especially in the firehouse. With her Father’s nonstop harassment to Casey, and radio silence in all aspects from her family, she was starting to feel hopeless.
The firehouse of course never blamed her for this situation or what’s happening to Casey. But to say they didn’t feel a little resentment towards her would be an understatement. The conversations that would quickly come to an end when she would walk into the firehouse, the glances and stares, the whispers. They were all getting to her.
Finally, the week of her father’s trial it was one of the many times Cassie was having her post-shift breakdown in her car. If she never reported Justin, if she kept her head down, she would still be in her family. She would still be able to talk to her father, and she would still be able to get through the day without thoughts about wanting to end her life. Her father is going to prison soon for trying to set Casey up to be injured or murdered or whatever he was trying to do, and this was her fault.
Cassie can’t live with herself. Not after this, she went too far. She doesn’t deserve to live, not in her terms anyway.
Once Cassie made it back to her apartment she slept. It doesn’t matter if it’s 8:30 a.m. and she just got off shift, she’s going to sleep away her pain, and then drink away her pain, then sleep again. It’s her very exciting routine she’s fallen into these last few weeks.
Waking up at 6 p.m. on the dot, Cassie sighed at her alarm clock. Just like every other day.
Getting up and walking to her kitchen, Cassie figured drinking the last half of her vodka bottle would be a nice way to spend the night. Except this time as she was grabbing the bottle down, the small safe she has on the other side of the cabinet caught her eye. The safe that held her emergency fund of cash, a few prized possessions she got from her dead mother, and her old side arm she had when she was a cop. Cassie has a Glock 19 just like the one Erin carries. When Cassie graduated the police academy, Erin took her out and bought it for Cassie. Said it was her graduation gift.
With Cassie’s eyes lingering on the safe a little longer than they would when she normally glanced at it, she finally shook her head and opened the bottle.
Taking a swift swig Cassie knew what she needed to do. Not what she wanted, she didn’t want this in the slightest. What she wanted was for everything to go back to normal, but they weren’t. So she needed to do this.
Cassie quickly went to her bedroom and started packing. Throwing away random trash, and sorting old clothes. Making her away around her apartment. A cleanse of some sort. Anything that didn’t hold sentimental value, was a piece of furniture, or important to her in anyway, Cassie threw away. She figured by doing this now it would save people the hassle of having to go through everything later.
After about 3 hours Cassie, drunk, figured the progress she made was a good stopping point. Putting on comfier clothes than she was wearing and cleaning herself up a little, she opened another bottle of liquor, grabbed a pen and paper, and began writing.
Writing notes to her family and colleagues at 51 first, those were short and sweet. To let them know the past 3 years they gave her were some of the best memories she’s ever made.
Then going back to when she was 18-20, a fresh patrolman on the streets of Chicago, she thanked her family at the 31st district. Of course the connections there weren’t as significant as her firehouse family, they still played a role in the person she was today.
Finally writing a note to Justin, apologizing for how she royally fucked up his life. She explained how she takes full responsibility for not being the best big sister he could ask for, but she loved him and wanted the best for him. She let him know that under different circumstances she would still be around to be his biggest supporter, but if he needed her she would always be in his heart.
Crying and taking a few more shots for courage, Cassie wiped her tears and continued what she needed to do. Just two more notes.
One to her father, apologizing for ruining their relationship and how she wished their story could have had a different ending. But ultimately letting him know that she couldn’t live with the weight of how much destruction she’s caused and it was for the best.
Then finally to Erin. Cassie stared at the blank paper, then the pile of notes she’s finished, then back at the paper. She couldn’t do this to Erin. She knew that. But it wasn’t to Erin, it was to the world and making it a better place because she would be gone. So ultimately she decided writing, ‘I know you don’t deserve this. But it’s for the better. I love you in more ways than I would ever be able to write on paper. We’ll meet again in another life. You always will be, and always have been my sister. Thank you, Erin.’
Sealing Erin’s envelope, she placed the pile of letters on her kitchen island.
After putting her shoes on, Cassie made her way over to the safe. Putting in the combination and staring at her killer. She paused.
A million thoughts racing through her head as she stared, she knew she wouldn’t be able to go through with it if she didn’t have something to put her at ease. God, she truly is turning into a horrible monster.
Grabbing a joint from her medicine cabinet, she lightly chuckled as she grabbed a lighter.
Cassie hasn’t really smoked since high school, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have anything on hand for emergency purposes. Okay maybe earlier when she said Voight hasn’t gotten her out of any legal trouble except for shoplifting in the 6th grade was a lie. But hey, smoking a joint at the park with a few friends is not the same as getting a DUI. Anyways, this would be considered an emergency, right?
Sitting on her couch she opened her window and lit the stick in her hand. Feeling the warm smoke coat her throat and lungs immediately, it already made her feel lighter. Calmer. This was the way to go out. Chuckling again, Cassie really would’ve never pictured herself at 23 getting cross faded in the comfort of her own home, alone. Taking another hit and letting the drug take its course, she put the joint out and shut her window. Walking herself back to the open safe, she grabbed the gun. Frowning at the reminder of what she needed to do, she really just wanted her mom.
Cassie had a plan. She’s technically had a plan since she was 13 and her mother died, she just never truly had a reason to do it. Cassie always had someone to stay for. Her siblings, her father. But those don’t apply anymore, so there is no reason for her to be alive.
Taking a deep breath and grabbing the handle of the door to her apartment, she stuck the gun in her coat pocket and opened the door. It’s now or never. This is the only out she’s giving herself. This is the time for second thoughts but the second she steps out that door, there’s no going back. Not under any circumstance.
Disappointedly, Cassie walked out the door. Maybe in some fictional story of her life someone would be at the door to stop her. Just a freak coincidence that she opened the door right as they were going to knock. But no, because this is not some story, this is her life. Her life that she was going to end. She knew it was the easy way out, for the people who give up just because they can’t tough it for a little while longer. It took Cassie awhile, but she came to terms with it. Just another reason for her to do it, she could never be strong enough to stay.
Once Cassie got in the elevator of her apartment building, instead of clicking the starred floor, she clicked the roof. Where else would she go to do it? Her car?
Arriving at the 23rd floor, Cassie stepped out onto the metal ground. Cold wind instantly whipping her face she lightly hissed at the pain. Just something else she deserved.
Walking over to the metal vent a few feet away from the elevator Cassie sat. She sat, took out her gun, and looked over the city. No better way to go out right?
Taking a deep breath, Cassie wasn’t scared anymore. The fear was long gone, all she felt was relief. Smiling at the sensation of being free, Cassie felt the tears rolling down her face. But she didn’t mind, these weren’t tears of sadness or anger, they were from happiness. They were from the relief that she didn’t have any obligations anymore. She didn’t have a will to live, and that was okay.
Finally picking up the gun and placing it to the side of her right temple, she shut her eyes and let the pure bliss soak in. She was free, and that was that.
Crying a little harder now, Cassie cocked the gun and placed her index finger on the trigger. Almost done, just one more step to go, and she’s finally free. Cassie thought about how people would react. How they would pretend to be so distraught over her death, probably wondering what pushed her over the edge. But nothing pushed her, maybe it was the thought of reuniting with her mother that got her to do it. Maybe it wasn’t one person’s fault, she just missed her mom was all. Well this is it, mommy she’s coming home.
“I love you, mom.” Were the words Cassie finally muttered as she felt the flood gates open for her tears. Slightly trembling she exhaled before-
“Wait!” She heard a male voice call out. Of fucking course. Almost wanting to roll her eyes at the sound, she took a sharp breath before readjusting the gun against her temple.
“Go away!” She shouted irritatedly, or at least thats what she thought she sounded like. All he probably heard was broken sobs begging for the opposite.
“Please, wait.” He said again slowly approaching her.
Making Cassie bite her bottom lip, she knew she couldn’t just blow her brains out in front of him. Then she would feel really guilty, or at least she thinks she would. Whatever the afterlife is and all.
“Just go away, please. I need to do this, and you’re interrupting.” She pleaded closing her sobbing eyes.
“My names Jay, Jay Halstead. What’s yours?” The man, Jay, asks, only making it worse.
“No, because if I tell you then it’s going to make me less likely to do it. You’re going to use my name as you try to talk me down and- God. You know what, it’s already ruined.” Cassie says annoyed with her broken voice as she uncocks the gun and tosses it on the ground to make a thud against the metal.
Quickly picking up the gun, Jay slides it down behind him and approaches Cassie again.
Finally looking up to truly see him, Cassie notices Jay’s lack of shirt. This very toned man in just sweats is out on the roof with a very broken girl.
Sitting next to her with no warning, Jay brings his knees to his chest, resting his elbows upon them.
Cassie notices his deliberate breathing and can’t help but join him. 5 seconds in through the nose, hold for 5 seconds, then exhale for 5 seconds. After a comfortable silence between the pair, Cassie finally speaks up.
“What are you doing out here?” She asks not taking her eyes off the city view.
“Sitting with you.” He says back nonchalantly.
“I know. But before you saw me, what were you coming out here for?” Cassie asks now looking over at the man.
“When I have a rough night, I come out here to breathe.” He says with a pause looking at Cassie then back at the city.
“I haven’t had a rough night in a while though. I just had a feeling I needed to come up here.” Jay admits making Cassie tear up again.
Looking back at the city Cassie lets a few tears fall before she quickly wipes her eyes and sniffles.
“I uh, I was a ranger, 3rd battalion, 75th regiment. Went on two tours in Afghanistan. I’ve seen a lot of guys going through what you are…” Jay trails off making Cassie scoff.
“And what? You thought you could be the hero again? Talk another person off the ledge and earn another notch on your belt? Need some good karma on your side?” Cassie accuses, trying to hurt him with every word. It’s what she does, when she feels the need to get defensive she uses everything she can to try and hurt the other person.
“No. You’re wrong.” He says just as defensively.
“Well I can assure you, the only reason I didn’t do it when you showed up is because I didn’t want to scar you. A random stranger doesn’t deserve to live with that.” She says a little softer but there’s still an edge to her voice.
“I appreciate that. But I want you to know, even if I did walk away when you told me to, I would still be living with it. Just because I wouldn’t have seen it happen, doesn’t mean I still wouldn’t know.” He says with the same defensive edge to his voice from before.
“Can I be honest with you Jay?” Cassie asks, broken as ever.
“Yes,”
“I don’t know what to do. I don’t know how to keep living, i’m at a loss for how to even attempt it at this point. This was supposed to be my way out, I wrote notes, I went the whole 9 yards. I had absolutely no intention of living past this night.” Pausing a little before she continues, “How do I keep going?”
“Do you want me to be honest with you?”
“Please.” She says looking at him.
“I don’t know. There’s no one answer. Do you want to know what I do?”
“Anything would probably help at this point.” she admits biting her lip nervously.
“You take it one day at a time. Don’t think about a year from now, 6 months from now, Hell even 3 days from now. Think about sleeping this off, then waking up tomorrow. Just get through tomorrow.”
Sobbing again, all of the relief Cassie was able to feel was gone. She’s never felt so hopeless.
“Cassie.” She says quietly exhaling after the sobs.
“Hm?”
“My name, it’s Cassidy. But everyone calls me Cassie.”
“Well, it’s nice to meet you Cassie.” Jay says with a small smile.
“Can I ask you another question, Jay?”
“Shoot.”
“It’s freaking cold out here,” Cassie says with her teeth chattering, “How do you not have a shirt or coat on?” She asks chuckling a little.
“It helps me feel real. I’ll come out here in the winter and just sit for 5-10 minutes at a time. Reminds me that i’m human.” He says honestly and getting up.
Nodding along and mimicking his action of standing Cassie sticks her hands in her coat pockets.
“Mind if I keep this for awhile?” Jay asks picking up her gun and walking towards the elevator.
“Don’t lose it. It was a gift.” She says as she follows him.
“Hm. You a cop?” He asks as they both step in.
“Used to be.”

The date is October 24th, 2012 and Cassie couldn’t have asked for an easier shift. 2 hours away from clocking out and absolutely no calls.
Cassie basically held a knife to everyone’s throats once they got halfway through shift. She couldn’t have anyone jinxing them. Not this late in the game. Threatening them one last time before she decided to turn in, she made sure to get extra comfortable.
But all good things must come to an end. Sleeping like a baby in the bunk room, Cassie gets woken up by the call alarm. Just her luck.
Jumping up in a rush, Cassie sleepily shoved her boots on and ran her hand through her hair.
As Cassie ran out to the apparatus floor, she heard an asortmant of sarcastic remarks towards the candidate. Of course he was the jinx.
“Nice goin!” , “Thanks a lot, Candidate.” , “Great job bud!” Most of Truck 81 said as they were gearing up.
“I knew I shouldn’t have fallen asleep.” Cassie said tying her hair back into a low pony before putting the rig in drive.
“Hey, at least you get to test out your new paramedic certification!” Gabby cheered enthusiastically.
“Yeah, yeah, but you’re still my PIC and I wouldn’t trade that for the world.”
“Oh my heart!” Dawson playfully adds as they pull up to the scene.
Analyzing the car wreck in front of them, the girls jump out of the rig and into action.
“This isn’t going to be good,” Cassie says quietly to Gabby as they wheel the gurney to the worse car.
“Happy Birthday.” Gabby mutters back making Cassie’s heart drop. Immediately recognizing the car that’s better off, Cassidy begins cussing under her breath before directing her attention back to the people in need.
“61 to main, we’re gonna need another ambulance.” Cassie calls into her radio once they arrive at the car that’s currently upside down.
After a lot of hardwork, and multiple scares, Cassie and Gabby finally get one of the more stable victims to the ambulance.
“Hey Dawson?” Cassie asked anxiously after shutting the door.
“What’s up? We gotta go-”
“My brother was in the accident. I’m gonna guess he was driving the other car, would you be able to take this one back to the hospital? I really need to see him Gabby. I can catch a ride with truck or squad when we’re done-”
“Go.”
“Thank you. So much.” Cassie says running towards the other car she saw her brother step out of.
“What the hell happened!?” Cassie yells shooing off the officer currently trying to talk to him.
“Ma’am, we need to-” The officer tries to butt in,
“Back off!” Cassie yells earning a stern look.
“3 minutes.” The officer says warningly.
Taking a step closer to Justin, Cassidy pulls his shoulder so he’s fulling facing her. Immediately catching the stench of alcohol on Justin’s breath, she freezes.
“Justin!” She whisper yells finally getting eye contact from his end.
“What?” He asks through gritted teeth.
“What the hell happened?” She asks again hitting his shoulder.
“Just- Get out of here! I d-don’t need you, and you’re s-stupid pep talks right now.” He slurs belligerently.
“You’ve been 21 for two weeks Justin. Two weeks, and you can’t even drive sober on my birthday!? What if you were the one half-dead, hanging upside down over there, hm? You think-” Cassie stops talking at the swift thwap ringing through her ears.
Feeling her hands now on the ground, she registers the stinging metallic taste in her mouth. After a few seconds of gathering her thoughts, Cassidy stands up straight. Touching her bottom lip and looking at her fingers, she realizes she’s the one bleeding. Blinking a few times, Cassie looks back at Justin who’s face is truly blank. Unreadible.
He hit her. He fucking back handed her. Cassie looks down at the class ring on Justin’s right middle finger, now laced in blood. Chuckling a little at his audacity, Cassie turns around slowly because she can’t look him in the face right now.
It all happened so much faster than the slap. She didn’t even feel herself wind up, but she did feel the connection of her fist with Justin’s nose, Justin who is now knocked on his ass. Solely because he’s drunk and doesn’t have much balance. Stopping at the 180 mark that Cassie threw her body in, she goes back around bending over holding her fist.
Looking slowly at her hand that is now purple and swollen Cassie lets out a slow hiss. Probably broken.
“Hey Lady! What the hell!” The officer from before says picking Justin up and walking him over to a nearby bench.
“Cassidy!” She heard an all too familiar voice call out. Too busy nursing her hand to truly turn around and give him the time of day she settles for rolling her eyes.
“Cassidy Jordan!” The voice calls out again, but this time closer and still approaching.
Finally standing up and looking at her father, Cassidy frowns once she meets his eyes.
“What the hell is going on!” His raspy voice yells, making her slightly wince.
“Over here. Now.” He says more quiet this time and walking away. Mindlessly following him Cassie begins walking.
Expectantly looking at Cassidy once they’re in a more private location, Voight eventually scoffs.
Still giving no reaction Cassie frowns at the ground.
“Don’t give me that.” Voight says pointing a finger at her.
“I didn’t even do anything!”
“Right, and your busted lip and probably broken hand lives up to that huh?” He asks with a raised brow.
“Justin is drunk off his ass and caused a car accident, yet you’re over here scolding me for retaliating in self-defense?” Cassie asks trying to turn this around of her father, unsuccessfully.
“I know what Justin is, but you know better. What were you doing over there anyway, didn’t your partner leave?”
“Yeah. But I wanted to check on him at least. He’s a screw-up but he’s my brother that’s a screw-up.” She says crossing her arms and looking away.
“Look. I know this is not the most ideal way to spend your birthday, I get that-”
“Do you though? Do you get that? Because for all we know, this could’ve been reversed and Justin’s car could’ve been the one hanging upside down off a pillar.” She says back at her father.
“Yes. I do know. I will handle it, Cassie.” Voight says unconvincingly at his daughter.
“He fucked up. He’s been 21 for two weeks and this would be considered what? His fourth or fifth DUI? He’s been on this road since he was 15! But this time don’t forget the possible vehicular manslaughter if either of those victims die!” Cassidy finally screams at her father.
“You need to stop.” He says looking around at all of the eyes on you guys, despite being in a private location.
“You need to do something about this, or I will.” Cassie threatens.
“What do you mean, you will?”
“I’m working this scene Dad. I have to make an incident report. You need to let the cops take him in now, or I will say everything that needs to be said in that report. Your choice.”
“Cassidy, you will do no such thing. Do you understand me?”
“You need to let him learn! You can’t be there everytime he screws up to save his ass! He isn’t going to change knowing Daddy’s going to bail him out everytime he gets in trouble. We both know it, so help him.” Cassie finally scolds leaving Voight speechless. It’s not often his daughter talks to him this way.
As Cassie starts to walk away, her father’s voice stops her once again.
“Don’t do anything Cassidy. I mean it. I’ll take care of it.”
Pausing in her steps at his words, she lets them sink in until she keeps walking.
Finding lieutenant Casey to ask him for a ride, she stops behind him and the cop from earlier.
“Look. Detective Voight, behind me - the guy in the jacket. That was his son driving the car.” Cassie overhears the cop tell Casey.
“Voight? Like Cassidy Voight?” Matt asks not knowing you’re behind them.
“Yep. Can’t tell you how many incidents that detectives gotten his kids out of.” The cop now says walking away making Cassie roll her eyes. The only thing Hank Voight has bailed Cassie out of was shoplifting a chapstick in the 6th grade.
“Hey, Lieutentant Casey? Can I catch a ride with 81?” Cassie asks startling Matt out of his transe.
“Where’s Dawson?” He asks now walking away from the car and Cassie.
Quickly following behind, Cassie catches up to him.
“Um, she took one of the crash victims to the hospital. I stayed behind.” She says not disclosing anymore information.
“Hop in.” He says once they reach the truck.
A few days later Cassie still hadn’t heard from her father or her brother, and at this point she didn’t know what to do. Once she got to the firehouse though, she needed to figure it out.
“Voight, Casey, my office now.” Chief Boden said causing the pair to briefly glance at each other before following Boden into his office.
“I don’t have either of your incident reports from the crash last shift. Is there something I need to know?” He asks causing them to glance at each other again.
Before either of them were able to say anything he pointed to his desk, “Get it done. You have until the end of shift.” When Boden glances away from them, Cassie takes this as her chance to leave.
“Cassie, wait up.” Casey said calling after her.
Cassie finally stopped in front of Casey’s room and waited for him to lead the way.
“Okay, you need to explain,” Matt started as Cassie stared at her shoes.
“I don’t know what to do.” Cassie finally whispers, voice slightly breaking.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, I love my brother and my father, don’t get me wrong. They’ve been my only family my whole life. Especially since my mom died 10 years ago, but I can’t help but feel so guilty for the other family.” Cassie finally breaks. Tears flowing down her face, Matt stood up to give her a hug before she pushed him away and wiped her tears.
“I told my dad that he needed to do something this time. He couldn’t just bail Justin out, Justin needed to learn. I told him that if he doesn’t then I will, that I will write the report and submit it as the truth. But he shut me down. I don’t know what he would do if I did, I can’t do it, Matt.” Cassie finally says looking up at him.
“Cassie, yes you can. If we both tell the truth in those reports then that family can finally get justice.” Matt said sitting back down at his desk looking up at Cassie.
Taking a few seconds to let his words sink in. Cassie realized she can’t betray her family like that.
“No, Matt, I can’t. I want nothing more than to bring justice to that family I really do. But I can’t be the reason my family breaks. Call me selfish, but I can’t bear the pain of being shunned by the only two people I have left. I’m sorry Matt.” Cassie finally says leaving him speechless. Then leaving his room.
A little while later, Cassie went to go talk to Boden. To tell him the truth and maybe ask for a little advice as to what to do. But to her surprise when she came to his office. She found Detective Antonio Dawson, Matt Casey, and Boden all having a little chat. Knocking on Boden’s door, he glanced at the Lieutenant and Detective before waving her to come in.
“Cassie,” He started but was quickly interrupted by her.
“Chief, I want you to know I’m on your side. I know what kind of things my father has done to bail my brother out of his idiotic mistakes, and I don’t support it. But you guys sitting here and gossiping about my family is a new low. If you guys are planning something, I at least need to know.”
“Why? So you can turn around and tell him everything?” Antonio speaks up earning a glare from Cassie.
“No. So I can help you guys do it right.”
“And why don’t you help? You know what really happened so report it.” Boden says making Cassie glance back at him.
“Look, call me selfish, but they’re my family. My only family. I can’t in good conscious turn my brother in and have my father hate me, but I can’t in good conscious let that family suffer from my brother’s wrong doings. Let me help you guys. That way justice is being brought for that family, and my brother finally gets punished for his actions. But not because of me.” Cassie finally says crossing her arms over her chest.
“Alright, well a buddy of mine who works out of Voight’s precinct said nothing’s come up in witness statements.” Antonio says
“So you’re trying to tell me no one else saw his kid drunk.” Boden adds making Cassie bite her lip anxiously.
“Hell yes, other people saw his kid drunk. But they were other cops who weren’t about to go up against Voight.” Antonio
Still listening Cassie opts to pace in the open part of Boden’s office. It’s what she does when she’s thinking.
“Well I would rather my guy not be the only one with his head above the foxhole on this one.” Boden says to which everyone agrees with.
“Look, and I’m not proud to admit this, but if Gabby were in your shoes for this one. I would tell her to stay out of it.” Antonio says now looking at Cassie.
“The passenger in the other car isn’t going to walk again.” Matt speaks up with news Cassie hadn’t even heard yet.
“Antonio’s right. Going against my father is a death wish. But it needs to happen. Justin is…Justin is sick. He needs help. I think this might be the only wake up call he’ll be able to have.” Cassie finally admits making herself tear up again.
At that a call for Ambulance 61 had Cassie rushing out of the room with an anxious feeling eating her from the inside out.
“Greg Duffy? I guess he was in a car accident the other day that you guys responded to?” Nicki comes in and announces to everyone in the common room. Cassie and Gabby had just gotten back from the call, to which Gabby ignored her for the majority of.
Peaking Cassie’s attention she gets up and follows everyone else out to the apparatus floor.
“Sorry to barge in on you like this, but my wife made this for you guys. We really appreciate what you did. And we know damn well it could’ve been worse If the car had tipped over, so thank you.” Greg says making Cassie’s heart sink as she looked at the beautifully homemade chocolate cake he had in front of him.
“How’s your son?” Matt asks looking over at you then back to Greg.
“Yeah, well…Mikey’s got a tough road ahead of him. But we’re gonna make it. We’re gonna be all right.” He says sorrowly looking down at the fresh cake his wife had baked for them.
“The other reason I came here is, I don’t know if theres anything you guys do in terms of what you saw, or piece together, based on what the accident scene looked like. But, the police report came back saying I ran a red light causing the accident. And uh, that’s, that’s not what happened, and I’m kind of at a loss in terms of how to fight it.”
At Greg’s words, Cassie knew what she had to do. She couldn’t be selfish any longer.
With Casey in Boden’s office they both finished their incident reports with Boden to proofread them after.
“Last paragraph.” Matt said as both him and Cassie hand Boden their papers.
“Visibily drunk. Smelled alcohol on his breath. Saw open containers on the passenger seat,” Boden said looking at Matt then taking Cassie’s paper.
“I can assume it’s around the same thing for you?” He asks to which she quickly nodded.
“Yes sir.”
