Asagiri Gen is the character ever, he’s vaguely evil but nobody gives a shit so he just gave up. Has the strength of a house cat (canon) Threatening but nobody takes him seriously cuz he’s just such a goober. Left the bad guys in order to join the good guys, just to get absolutely bullied by everybody. Pathetic wet cat of a man, the buff old guy loves him for reasons that are completely unknown to everyone (canon). One of the smartest characters in the show, risked it all for a coke. Magnificent.

a/n: it’s been so long i forgot how to write for him so this could be a hit or miss

the metal feels cool on your fingertips when you pick it up, the ball chain attached to it flowing and swaying easily with the movement. your thumb slowly brushes over the name engraved on it as a particular sense of longing roots deep inside your bones.

“whatcha lookin’ at?”

you turn at the voice, pleasantly greeted by the sight of narumi strutting over to where you stand by the vanity. seemingly fresh out of the shower, his chest glistens and cheeks flushed from the bathroom’s steam as a towel wrapped itself around his tapered waist– a view that never gets old in your honest opinion.

your eyes drift down to his neck– his bare neck, the lack of a chain looping around it catching your attention. “did you lose your tag again?” you ask, an eyebrow raised as you gesture to the object in your hand.

narumi takes note of your subtly accusing gaze and brings his palms up in surrender. “not my fault that the kaijus love going for my neck,” he defends with a slight pout, though his eyes hold no guilt.

you hum jokingly, watching in amusement as his expression rapidly shifts, “and here i thought the strongest soldier around always returns unscathed in all shapes and forms.”

“well, i do!” he counters, snatching the tag from you as he grips on his towel with his other hand. he looks seconds away from adding more but he pauses before contemplating, “…most of the time.”

a snort slips out as you fully turn to him, taking the piece of metal back into your hands. narumi settles down then, noticing the faraway look in your eyes. he bends his neck, head bowing and rosy eyes lowering as he lets you place the chain over the mess of his damp hair.

the military tag settles around his neck, the flat, engraved steel comfortably resting beside where you’d rested a palm on the surface where his heart steadily beats beneath the warm skin.

narumi’s hands slowly caress the soft give of your waist, up and down, up and down, before he gently knocks his forehead against yours and murmurs low, “i’m here.”

you exhale, shaky and soft. the continuous rhythm underneath your touch brings a sense of peace to your own being, battling the constant reminder that is the brand new chain looped around his neck; a reminder that he’s still human. the possibilities of losing him to mortality almost had you heaving in despair.

but right now, he’s here, right in front of your very eyes, alive and well. and that’s all that matters.

i’ve got some big things happening right now around my career, which is taking up a big chunk of my time outside of work :( for some context, i currently work full time night shifts, which as you could imagine, is draining in everyyyyy sense of the word.

i’m working toward a huuuuge opportunity which will put me in a job role that i’d be happy to stay in forever. and back on day shift🤞 i don’t wanna talk tooo much about it to avoid getting my hopes up too much 🥹

i have my first official step on tuesday, so i’ll still be inactive for a week or so while everything goes down.
