Soul Calibur 2 - GameCube/Switch 2 Review

So yesterday, I finally, FINALLY, after all these years, 100% completed Soul Calibur 2. Thanks to GameCube Classics on Nintendo Switch 2! And now I feel like I can finally sort of review the game.

Soul Calibur 2 is one of THE most legendary fighting games, a tale of swords and souls, eternally retold.

SC 2 was a multiplatform game, each platform getting their own unique guest character. But of course, the one I always gravitated to as a child was the GameCube Version, not just because I had a GameCube. But because it had freakin' LINK. Link was easily my main as a child, but as an adult? I gravitated more towards Nightmare. Hard hitting, and overpowered as heck.

SC2 features multiple game modes, with the highlight of the entire game being the Weapon Master mode. Weapon Master is where you unlock characters and weapons for WM and Extra Mode (more on that later). Within Weapon Master mode, you have multiple areas and missions, completing the missions nets you EXP and Gold. To unlock some of the last unlockable characters, you have to reach Level 72. Which, you should get to fairly naturally. It took me a little bit of a grind at the end after I finished Weapon Master mode to hit level 72, but I finally reached it after just a few missions near the end.

Weapon Master mode also allows you to unlock Ultimate and Joke weapons for each character. Most characters unlock either Soul Calibur or Soul Edge as their Ultimate Weapon, while others get a different type of weapon. Such as Link unlocking the Great Fairy Sword as his ultimate Weapon. There are caveats to using said ultimate weapons, Soul Edge will drain your life as you whack your opponents, while Soul Calibur will gradually heal your life as you battle.

But, unfortunately, Weapon Master also has some frustrating moments as well. There are certain missions where I admit, I had to use save states with. (Thank Miyamoto for save states, just sayin'.) But all in all, Weapon Master is an amazing game mode, and after doing all the missions in both the first route and the EX route (Which you have to do if you want to unlock everything/do all the missions).

And of course, the game is better with friends as well. I don't have any friends currently who want to do Vs battles (I assume they're scared of my leet skillz), but running through the arcade mode and Arcade Mode (Extra) was super fun as well. Arcade Mode (Extra) allows you to use the weapons you bought in Weapon Master mode, IN ARCADE MODE. Imagine yourself playing as Link, running through the Arcade Mode with the best weapon ever, The Bug Net. (Kidding, but it is entertaining).

All in all, Soul Calibur 2 has forever changed the course of history in fighting games. It's easily one of the best Soul Calibur games, and one of the most historic fighting games, of all time.

Easy 10/10. Go play it now if you have a Switch 2. (Or if you sail the seven seas, yarrrr).

We're only a few days away from Nintendo Switch 2!!!!! I hope I can nab one on launch night at GameStop...Like really hoping. I tried playing a few games on my Switch just today and they, for some reason, didn't load properly. Not sure what's going on, tried Tears of the Kingdom, crashed after a few minutes. Tried playing Hyrule Warriors, wouldn't even load without crashing. So crossing my fingers for a Switch 2... BUT, we're ALSO only a few days away from Nintendo GameCube NSO!!! That's very exciting. GameCube Controller will forever be the best controller AND I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL

gamecube was the best designed controller of all time exclusively for the button cluster that gave you easy thumb roll access to all buttons but also gave you the a button as a thumb rest (because it’s the one you press the most) and took into account the frequency with which each button gets pressed in its design rather than doing the stupid diamond design that gives no button priority and rests your thumb in the shitty blank space between buttons

What's up y'all? I decided to make a second channel for my YouTube Content. My second channel will focus mainly on NON-Nostalgia Glasses content, so stream archives, let's plays, etc.

The past few days I've played Twilight Princess on stream for the FIRST TIME! I know, fake Zelda fan over here, and I've really been enjoying it so far. So I decided to upload the full stream archives to my second channel, and I can't wait to stream the game again soon!

Also, I have a new avatar! I'm a sucker for Wind Waker and wanted a Wind Waker style avatar, I'm no artist and I do NOT claim to be, but I had ChatGPT make this one...I will admit, I don't like using it, but I'm unemployed and can't afford shit. Otherwise I'd pay someone to do this for me, but it looks pretty good and I'm excited to make more content going forward.
