I really wish I didn't have to engage with this, but I refuse to let this shitty discourse ruin the fandom again.

I barely write anything, but I am always fully aware of what themes I am exploring, and what ideas a reasonable reader, acting in good faith, might take from them.

I trust anyone who visits my blog because they are people with minds and morals. Not goldfish who let fanfiction and whump fics define their world views. You are not protecting anyone, you are insulting their intelligence.

To everyone reading this:

You know the difference between fiction and reality. Intrusive thoughts are not the real you. You are not evil for writing some fucked up fics now and then. You deserve a creative outlet. Just do your best to tag that shit the best you can.

Most importantly: media is subjective. You do not need to cater to those who are intentionally reading your work in the worst possible light.

The gt community has some serious problems and i genuinely feel like everyone Is blind in here. Racism and dehumanization is literally so widespread. Everyday i'll read people refer to other PEOPLE with merely different cultural customs as "feral" and "wild". Everyones favorite trope Is the White savior and White mans burden. "Tinies" are talked about as if they are actually animals, they live miserable lives that the "civilized" humans saves them from. If tinies are in trouble, no problem a single human Will come in and save all of them. Pet trope resolution is a human buys a slave and later realizes they are actually a person. Or the slave appeals to their suppressors and "oh actually these tinies aren't so bad" and they're all friends. Or straight up someone being owned as property is actually fine and cute. "Darker themes" in here are literal race play. There's no nuance, no respect no nothing. Dehumanization is a fun little trope. All of these things are said and thought in absolutely honesty by users here. Boundaries are an absolutely alien concept in here. I'm into size difference but never referred myself as part of the gt group, however i had my characters added to a gt tournament without my permission. Absolutely uncalled for comments. No my character Is not a tiny. Artists are treated as content farmers. So many times i've seen people beg others to stop sending shit asking them abt requests. There's things that are absolutely not sfw here that get shared as such. There's no Need for there to be a dick and a ball for It to be nsfw, your fic where a tiny guy pisses themself, gets tortured twelve chapters straight or Is treated like a pet Is not sfw of fluff. Get outta here

Okay, so like half of this is legitimate problems with the community. Mostly the latter half regarding SFW vs NSFW stuff and seeing artists as content farms, but...

HOLY SHIT, you need to touch grass.

Rescuing tinies is a 'white savior' troupe? My guy, not every power imbalance is racism. And I've never seen "Feral" or "Savage" used the way you discribe. Sometimes a tiny is just feral! 'Eats raw meat, growls at spiders, gnaws on sticks' feral.

You do understand we're talking about tiny people, right? A concept that does not exist in reality? If I decide to imagine a race of mouse-like people who are objectively less intelligent than humans, does that make me racist? Because I imagined a thing that doesn't exist? Because I dehumanized an imaginary race that is literally not human?

And hey, guess what? Sometimes a setting that is fucked-up and evil is the point! Do you genuinely believe that writing about something is inherent approval of everything it stands for? Are villains and evil not allowed?

We are imagining what would happen if there were massive, objective differences between 'Giants' and 'tinies'. Because we have to imagine a world where two people aren't inherently equals.

In short?

Furthermore, the ennui evoked by traditional 'fearplay' pales in comparison to the trepidation of tenuously amicable cohabitation. As the smaller party may anticipate their presence to become unduly onerous, subsequently causing speculation that any minor malfeasance may give their (much larger) host cause for immediate and callous exile. Or perhaps even violent retaliation!! All culminating in a reciprocal hesitance, as the minuscule guest preemptively adopts a placating facade, while the human benefactor is unwilling to comment on such behavior, fearing a reprisal of the smallfolk's initial distress. (Or if said human is particularly gormless, mistake it for affection and gratitude. The dullard!)

And thus the paradigm we call "G/t" persists!

A state of perpetual insecurity, both in regards to the emotions of each party, and in a quite literal sense for the smaller of the two (How can one feel secure without meaningful agency!?)

I can't help but cogitate on such matters, as I oft do.

mostly hanging around a tiny while they’re at or above waist height (usually either on counter tops/building roofs or your person) + finally interacting on the same ground level for either the first time or one of the firsts since meeting and ho-ly. shit. they are… ‘tiny’ sure fails to describe it, doesn’t it? they’re tiny in your hand, close to your face, on a shoulder or in a pocket—below the torso? on the ground? by your feet? with all this towering distance between you but they’re right there?

they try to describe their perspective but ‘walking building’ doesn’t really capture it. you’re already a walking building. before, they would have to crane their neck up to look at you, now? down on the ground, they stumble and fall if they try to look higher than your hips. any sort of crouching or leaning over to get a better look at them triggers a whole new wave of instincts to get away from the gargantuan, moving thing—creature—person.

they’d always known, of course, logically, that there was this much of you, and you always knew there was this little of them, but the difference between knowing and seeing, hearing—feeling— is astronomical.

Definitely understand where you're coming from on this... But the sexual stuff is exactly what many of us are referring to. Because there's more to sexual content than just 'porn' and 'not porn' Personally when I refer to '18+ content' I'm talking about stories that have things like: nudity, sex, sexual foreplay, r*pe, etc. Depicted, not simply implied. Those things are absolutely 18+ but do not necessarily equate to pornography depending on the context. Think about how many movies have a sex scene in them! they last like... 2-3 minutes in a 2 hour movie. That's enough to earn an R rating, but not enough to be called porn.

Basically, I think we need three tags:

A tag for 'Nudity / Sexual situations (not horny)' (like a world where tinies are pet and therefore, aren't clothed. Or if there is a sexual assault depicted in the story.)

One for "Some horny stuff, but not a main focus" (If the story does get spicy in a couple of places, but doesn't linger there too long)

And "This is literally porn. I wrote it for people to j*** off to." (When the sexual stuff is clearly the entire point)

For a perfect use-case, I loved your fics: "The Basics of Chemistry" and "Chemical Reactions" But the latter has a scene where Milly hides Simon in her dress. You know the one, you wrote it!

If you posted that on tumblr as a one-off, would you tag it 'Macro/micro' or 'G/t?'. The first is meant for porn, the second is supposed to be safe for work? usually? kinda vague sometimes.

This is why we need to differentiate. (BTW, I would classify "Chemical Reactions" Ch. 2 under the first tag. As everything inappropriate is purely utilitarian.)

Also, I want to be able to write really fucked up backstories without having to tag it as porn. That shouldn't be so much to ask. Please.

Guys, I am so so tired of the SFW/NSFW debate on here, and I'm not talking about sexual stuff.

Obviously pornography needs to be tagged as 18+. But when we get into things that are just uncomfortable (like hurt/angst/death/trauma/etc) those are NOT considered "18+ ADULT ONLY THEMES" or "NSFW."

Period.

You have to be 13 to have a Tumblr account.

YA Novels are for 12+.

Here are some YA novels that are perfectly acceptable for 13 year olds to read with themes that would be considered incredibly 'ADULT' according to the tumblr crowd:

The Hunger Games (death, dehumanization, suicide etc)

The Fault in Our Stars (death, medical trauma)

The Cruel Prince (death, torture, implied sex)

I'm too tired to look up any others, but you get the idea.

If you're on this site, you are 13+. Yes, explicit images should be tagged, obviously. But please stop trying to police every tiny thing that makes you uncomfortable in any way.

For a couple of quick examples:

"18+ G/t" would apply to @ratcatcher0325's wonderful story "Nobody's Fool". Chapter 1 contains non-sexual nudity, dehumanization and a character pisses themselves in fear. None of it is sexual.

The third tag, I'm tentatively calling "Adult Size Content" would apply to @entomolog-t's story "Bite me", which is an incredible and nuanced exploration on the nature of consent. It features sexually-charged flirting and desires. But no sex is depicted, and the sexual situations are not really the focal point as much as the emotional states and responses of the characters.

I highly recommend both fics if you like F/m content. But the point is that they are both NSFW, neither fit the "Macro/micro" tag, and yet they are very different kinds of 'adult content'

If a tiny is not given clothes for story or world-building reasons, that content shouldn't be forced to use 'the porn tag'

I propose we need three seperate tags:

An "18+ G/t" tag for any g/t content that is not intended to be sexual at all. To be clear this may contain nudity or 18+ contact, but nothing sexual. (Medical or unwanted nudity go here)

Continue to use "Macro/micro" tag for anything that is purely pornographic, kink or smut (even softcore)

And something like 'Adult Size Content' for content that fits right in the middle (Content where sexual situations happen, but are not a focus, or are merely being used to explore more psychological themes)

Please note all of these are intended to be used WITH any NSFW filters or content warnings. The idea is that Minors don't see any of these tags, Adults filter to see the ones they want.

I absolutely sympathize with this.

Sometimes the line between G/t and Macro/micro can be a bit... Hazy. Especially when it is combined with other niche interests. For example: I have absolutely no interest in vore and for years, I've only ever seen it in NSFW works or with NSFW artists. So the idea of SFW vore is a bit foreign to me, and still feels a bit weird. When that happens, the natural instinct is to rationalize it, resulting in 'it must be a kink'.

While I still don't like vore, I recognize that it would be very hypocritical to judge sfw vore in that way. The G/t community has received its fair share of that judgment.

HOWEVER

It's important to remember that there may be minors in these spaces. I think this is why it's important to differentiate "Macro/Micro" (Porn) from "18+ G/t" (G/t content with adult situations)

Neither should accessible to minors, but Intent and subject do matter.

There is a world of difference between 'not-minor-friendly' and 'pornographic'. And I think that the G/t community has been absolutely awful about handling such grey areas.

Humans entering space and realizing we are so small. We are mice compared to these giant races with their advanced machinery and technologies and experiences beyond us- except that we're humans. And our engineers dive into the new tech and once we learn the principles we also soon realize how Inefficient everything is. Their "microchips" are the size of cars, their storage drives are basically buildings, and they somehow store less data than ours. So, human companies take advantage, and tech starts rolling out. Massive and there's a lot of wasted space so that it can be managed with larger hands/pincers/claws/tentacles, but also so much more efficient than anything the galaxy has seen before.

Human technicians start hopping ships and upkeeping the general maintenance, the stuff that most aliens put off or don't notice because they never access the crevices of their ships. As human companies become more popular and lead the tech world in everything from warp cores to game stations ("it's so compact! How are the graphics so good?" Says a 60' tall grimbleback, holding a new VR headset that has all of its components included because it's so BIG by our tech standards), soon many things have accessibility ports for humans to be able to use as well. This means that these shiprats hoping ship to ship cause such a huge improvement in everything running smoothly, and there's a huge downtick in pests on ships because those "pests" are not only big enough and aggressive enough to bite a pitbull or a person in half, they're invasive to so many planets and humans hate nothing more than dog killing planet overrunning monsters.

All the while, from the Aliens perspective, humans are an elusive race that don't fraternize much with them. You almost never see a human as most places aren't exactly safe for the little things to run around in. They do export so much stuff though, and the custodial staff at the Central Galactic Outpost insists that there's more humans around than any other race if you just know where to look.

And sure it's somewhat known that some of the little daredevils hop ships and help out in exchange for room and board, usually without permission, but that can't be that common, can it?

Maybe your ship is running better this cycle ever since you stopped at the last station, that just means that tuneup was better than you thought. And maybe for some reason that program you were working on last night is finished when you wake up, but you're so tired maybe you finished it before you passed out. Somehow that faulty light in the galley has fixed itself as well, which is odd, but maybe the Engineer finally got to it. You'd know if there was someone else on your ship.
