Happy Birthday, Mary Astor - (May 3rd, 1906 - September 25th, 1987)
“There are five stages in the life of an actor: Who`s Mary Astor? Get me Mary Astor. Get me a Mary Astor Type. Get me a young Mary Astor. Who`s Mary Astor?”
Looking at this picture makes me think of all those "where would you go if you could go back in time" questions people ask sometimes. I think I would go back and be the person she's looking at in this picture. She is fucking smoking.

The world will knock you down plenty. You don’t need to be doing it to yourself.

Look at you. You’re young. And you’re scared. Why are you so scared? Stop being paralyzed. Stop swallowing your words. Stop caring what other people think. Wear what you want. Say what you want. Listen to the music you want to listen to. Play it loud as fuck and dance to it. Go out for a drive at midnight and forget that you have school the next day. Stop waiting for Friday. Live now. Do it now. Take risks. Tell secrets. This life is yours. When are you going to realize that you can do whatever you want?

I can’t think of anything but nights with you. I want them warm and silvery, when we can be together all our lives.

The song of the day goes out to Billy Bragg because... well, because this is a beautiful song and it's making me happy right now. Maybe it will turn your sneer to a smile as well.

S.F.W. is a 90's indie classic - and proof that a good script is all you need to make a great movie. Seriously, any movie that can make Stephen Dorff and Reese Witherspoon look like they came from the school of Stanislavsky has to be respected. It's too bad this one didn't get more press.
But it's one of those movies I like to keep to myself, because it might not be as fun to hide in if it had been blown up like Reservoir Dogs or Clerks. This post is making me miss 90's indie cinema.
So Fucking What...

Speaking of love, this song is great even when you're alone, wondering when it'll strike next. Song of the day goes out to those who aren't head over heels, but dream of the feeling.

Fantasy love is much better than reality love. Never doing it is very exciting. The most exciting attractions are between two opposites that never meet.
- Andy Warhol
This makes me feel better about not being in love right now... at least in reality.

In celebration of the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Slave is the Sneerbook SongOfTheDay. This band is the perfect mix of angry/happy/dancey. And they always make me want to take my pants off.

I've seen enough people who die for an idea. I don't believe in heroism; I know it's easy and I've learnt it can be murderous. What interests me is living and dying for what one loves.

If you ever doubt yourself as an artist, I say follow your dreams. Here’s a link to a 3-D animated film I wrote and directed 6 years ago. 326K raised from foreign investors - never made a dime. It sucks when your work doesn’t go as planned. But don’t let anyone stop you from following your dreams, even if it leads to a harsh reality.

Going Underground - The Jam
SongOfTheDay is going video. How can you not dig The Jam? My favorite tune...
"Some people might say my life is in a rut, but I'm quite happy with what I got. Some people say I should strive for more, but I don't see the point."
Well said.

The most important things are the hardest to say. They are the things you get ashamed of, because words diminish them -- words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But it's more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried, like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make revelations that cost you dearly only to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you've said at all, or why you thought it was so important that you almost cried while you were saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within not for want of a tellar but for want of an understanding ear.
- Stephen King (The Body)
My favorite passage from King's canon. The most important things are definitely the hardest to say. Maybe that's why we spend so much time talking about shit that doesn't matter.
