Study on Alter Relationships within DID/OSDD/UDD Systems
Hello! I’ve recently been interested in what way the relationships between alters in my system present, and so have decided to run a study to see how things are for other systems. I also wanted to research possible factors behind why relationships between alters differ between systems, so I thought this study could provide some interesting information on the DID/OSDD community generally.
All responses are 100% confidential, and there’s a longer informed consent statement which you’ll see before you start the study. It should take no longer than 5-10 minutes.
People who are eligible to take part in the study:
- DID/OSDD/UDD and other traumagenic systems. (You do notneed to be diagnosed, self diagnosed systems may take part.)
- Systems who apply to the above but do not have romantic or familial relationships in their system (Your response is still valuable!)
People who are NOT eligible to take part in the study:
- Endogenic systems or other system types who do not consider themselves to have DID/OSDD/UDD. (This is a study on how these relationships manifest in DID/OSDD/UDD specifically.)
- Anyone else who does not have DID/OSDD/UDD.
- Systems who do not have any knowledge on the relationships between their alters. (You may not be able to answer the required questions.)
I would really appreciate as many responses as possible, so I can have a big enough data set to draw some theories, so find the link below:
Even if you’re not eligible for the study, I would greatly appreciate any reblogs so that as many people as possible can take part.
I don’t have any set time for the study to close yet, but am aiming for at least 150-200 responses before it does. Stay tuned for any updates on that.

I don't generally do blackout poetry, but this one really worked way too well! 😁
Tumblr media
Being a system is paradise. Imagine something You're with the person you love the most. And you've always got people. No matter where you go. With the person you'd do anything for. That's what being a system is like. It's paradise We use xenogenders damnit

Some reminders for systems out there:
- you do not have to fit stereotypes, even if they are formed by the community
- small systems are still systems
- large systems are valid and real
- switching a lot is valid
- switching only a little is valid
- not noticing when switches occur is normal
- being a headmate who is almost always in front or co-con is normal
- being a headmate that almost never fronts is normal
- having many fictives/factives is normal
- having few to no fictives/factives is normal
- having communication issues is normal
- having amazing communication from the start is normal
- hearing voices is normal
- hearing them only with focus or not at all is normal
- understanding headmates through different means, such as feeling what they feel, or having them write things to you is valid
- not fitting coined system roles is normal
- enjoying and fitting coined roles is normal
- almost fitting a term and using it to describe your role is valid
- having no name for your system is valid
- having multiple names for your system is valid
- having stretches of silence from your headmates is normal
- having moments of extreme activity from your headmates is normal
- being frontstuck happens! just do your best, you’re awesome.
- what you see online is not every experience a system has, and they are likely just as varied from other systems as you are, just in different ways <3
being a system is varied and complex for every single system, nobody and no system has to fit into a box to be real, don’t fakeclaim yourself based off of other systems experiences.

"i know they're faking DID/OSDD because their alters are cringe!!!!" This may come as a shock to you, but sometimes, people's coping mechanisms, are cringe.
so when their brain introjects or creates someone, it's also cringe.

You know, sometimes it's okay to aim for the good rather than the better. It's okay to try and get the comfort instead of health. Treat yourself sometimes.
It's your body, your mind. You don't always need to turn away from comfort to heal. Take a break, but don't let the comfort consume you.
Your gonna need a break every once in a while from healing, and aim to comfort. And maybe you can fit both. If not, then it's also completely okay.
Treat yourself well, healing isn't always part of the healing- does that make sense? Stay safe. Don't forget to drink water. Your doing great.

To all the survivors out there:
Do NOT allow people to think that your hard work to even exist is laziness
At the end of the day, the fact that you are here, you are alive and surviving and fighting is honestly so inspiring
School and stuff like that just sometimes aren't able to be done, and that's okay! You can always catch up later
I went through a trauma recently, and my teacher has the audacity to say I was "simply refusing" to do assignments
Do NOT let these types of people walk over you, trust me it helps, you admit the fact that you're hurting and that nobody should put you down for continuing to fight
You are strong. You are Resilient. And I wish you the best of luck on your journey to healing and happiness, never give up - Ven 💜

this is beautifully put. just because your identity changes doesn’t mean you were wrong before.
it reminds of a post i saw a long time ago:
it’s ok to go through changes and phases in your identity. the moon goes through phases, and it is still beautiful and loved; phases are simply part of nature.
phases allow for self discovery. they let us figure out who we really are. there’s beauty in all things that change.
It makes me sad to see how widespread the “am I faking it?” doubt is in plural communities. Obviously there’s the go to rebuke of “you can’t fake something on accident,” but I also think the issue goes deeper than that. Something that I had to learn years ago (and I think this is related) is that just because your identity changes doesn’t mean you were wrong before.
This applies to basically anything. It means giving yourself grace and knowing that you were doing your best with the perspective that you had. It means letting yourself grow and change. To some degree, it means trusting your past self to define their experiences, even if it’s not how you would go about it now. In my experience, it means taking a step back from the narratives that tell us things like gender and sexuality are innate from birth and that there’s One True Identity you just need to uncover.
Once you stop worrying that you might be faking, you can look at “is this identity / paradigm helping or hurting me?” Which is still a tough question! But it’s a more helpful question, and it’s much less likely to immobilize you with shame.
