TURTLE EMERGENCY (my tort is cold & it is winter in Iowa) KO-FI DONATIONS & COMMS OPEN

HELLOW long story mostly short. My turtles basking bulb went out. The metal base came off in the socket. This is the 3rd time this has happened to me w these bulbs & at this point I just want to get him a garage heat lamp or smth from menards bc everything reptile-branded is shit. I can't remove the base from the socket bc these lamps are so poorly made. He isn't brumating rn either & I don't want him to get cold & sick - he has a ceramic heat lamp & a heat pad to keep him mostly warm but he needs a lamp.

I'm currently researching what type of lamp to get but I'd imagine the cost of a lamp/bulbs/woodchips (he needs fresh chips too) would be over $100, which I definitely do not have rn. Financial Emergency: Medical Bills and Holiday Funds

As much as I hate asking for financial help...unfortunately, I need to.

For the short version: after experiencing health problems and over a dozen doctor visits, my medical bills are starting to pile up. This has left me on a very tight budget, including next to no holiday funds for Christmas shopping for my family and friends. And I fear that other costs will begin to suffer soon, like my food budget and bills.

Long and detailed story below:

So, I think I should give you guys some info about what's happened to me the past month. I've been to the doctor half a dozen times for gastro pain and some unusually excessive blood loss (I apologize for the gross implications).

The gastro troubles led to me being diagnosed with "gastroesophageal reflux disease," which is basically a mix of gas buildup, indigestion, and acid reflux. It's not life threatening and I'm taking meds to handle the pain. As for the excessive bleeding, the cause of it is still unknown. I'm actually going back in tomorrow to be tested for Cushing's disease.

As expected, all of these doctor visits have led to many medical bills. For blood draws, and ultrasounds, and even a CT scan. And this couldn't have come at a worse time since Christmas is rapidly approaching. My holiday funds have been drained. And I still have more bills to pay (still have two more doctor appointments coming up).

I apologize if any of this was TMI, but you guys deserve to know what's going on when I ask for financial help. All I can do now is ask any of you for help. Whether it's donating or spreading the post around or just offering me moral support, I genuinely appreciate you guys.

desperate times, desperate measures

Tonight is turning out to be my fifth night of sleep deprivation due to a nasty upper respiratory virus running its course through my system. Thankfully, it's not Covid (which I've already had twice), but I'm only getting about three hours of sleep each night due to excessive post nasal drip & phlegm that wakes me up from coughing and bad nausea. Unfortunately, I used up the last of my sick time to call out on Sunday (with Monday as my regular day off) and had to go back to work on Tuesday. Between the exhaustion, coughing, and nausea, it was pure misery.

If I call out again, I will reach my work limit (only 5 absences allowed in a rolling six month period) and will be subject to dismissal (sadly, that's the state of employment for most 'essential workers' in the US these days), so I'm going to have to apply for a 3-day leave of absence (minimum I can request) in order to save my job. Meaning I'll be short three days pay towards my lodging next week.

As much as I hate to ask for help once again, I have to try to raise $300 to cover the difference.
