i love the idea that almost no one can pick up on the tiny shift in andrew's microexpressions or distinguish between basically any of his expressions at all other than aaron. not because of some twin telepathy thing but because i think it would be hilarious that the only other person than neil in a room full of the foxes that realizes andrew is eye-fucking neil is the last person who wants to know about it. cue aaron yelping in dramatic revulsion and pretending to gag while everyone asks him wtf is wrong and he just points at andrew like "look at him!!!" and then everyone looks at him and he looks the exact same as always. bored and blank. best poker face andrew minyard and aaron minyard the one man cursed to see it through it

he’s truly, in my opinion, one of the best characters of tsc. his growth through the series is incredible and rereading the series convinced me from the very first book that he belonged in the shadowhunter world. i think he adapted and accepted he had a place within it even faster than clary did.
i just truly truly love his development and i can’t wait to reread tales from the shadowhunter academy.
it always strikes me how apparent the development in Simon's character becomes near the end of CoG because it happens so quietly throughout the book. I barely even notice it until I've made it to the last few chapters and he's facing off Raphael on his own and fighting on Brocelind and I'm like oh... oh this is a completely different Simon.
and then I think back and realise there were so many moments earlier in the book that signalled his growth. Simon standing in the Penhallow's living room where Aline doesn't even bother disguising her contempt for him and Jace is being mean and he doesn't let it get to him. when Jace wants to break him out of jail and he refuses because he knows the consequences will extend to the others. Simon doesn't take the bait when Jace directs him sarcastic remarks after Max' funeral; he understands Jace is grieving and his behaviour towards him is nothing personal. he takes it upon himself to go talk to Izzy when she won't let anyone else in her room. Clary tells him she's in love with Jace and he doesn't get jealous: he says he's glad him and Clary tried even if it didn't work out. he is able to describe with matter-of-factly the moment he realised that Jace was in love with Clary, and empathises that it was killing him. he convinces Clary to mark him and states clearly that he is part of all of this and she needs to let him take on his responsibilities.
he is learning to acknowledge the fact that he's a vampire, not just a mundane who happens to drink blood and hangs out with shadowhunters. he begins to recognize that he is a part of this story too and to stand firmly in that awareness. he's no longer just a sidekick to Clary or an antagonist to Jace or a toy for Isabelle. and suddenly he's bearing the Mark of Cain, he's standing in front of Raphael, he's running across Brocelind, he's fighting a war he got flung into by series of unfortunate events but he's here and he's trying to make it matter.
I guess what strikes me towards the end of CoG, then, is his conviction in his own part in the story, whatever that is; his recognition of the ways in which this is interconnected with that of the people around him; and his willingness to take on responsibility for himself and others. I see such strength in him. the best way I can figure out to express this is that it's like he gains solidity and robustness.

the wicked powers theory
more specifically, the last shadowhunter theory
so, i was rereading city of bones and i stumbled upon this:
Tumblr media
and i immediately thought “okay, this could be it”, because now they know they can pass through the warding. so maybe that possibility of blocking the entrance of the demons is something cassie will explore in tls, even more possible if we believe the title is literal (which i initially refused to believe when i first started to think about this theory, and it took me a while to sort of wrap my head around it, because being shadowhunters is who they are, you know?)
so the last shadowhunter could be referring to them getting rid of demons by blocking their entrance, and with that it is possible for them to stop being shadowhunters, because there are no more shadows to hunt. (because i’ve been seeing some people say she might kill all shadowhunters, and unless that happens in an alternate dimension, i highly doubt she would do that to end the saga, i believe it would be meaningless to do something like that)
cob also kept me mentioning shadowhunters as “a dying breed”, so it would be sort of fitting to circle it back and dwell on it for the last book
like i said, i was initially reluctant to accept this theory, but then jace says this in cob:
Tumblr media
and i was like “shit, he’s right”. i mean, them being shadowhunters is important to me because that’s the role they play in the shadow world to me, you know? but for them, it’s a job. sure, some of them enjoy it, but maybe they could just be nephilim, just as werewolves, vampires, fey and warlocks just are. still, it was hard to totally embrace because i thought “if they don’t kill demons, then aren’t they just like mundanes?”, and i still don’t have an answer to that worry.
but the theory kept getting louder in my head because cob has constant reminders of the disadvantages of being a shadowhunter, all the ugly parts of it, how they’re in some way chained to that life of “scars and killing”.
additional note: i was telling my theory to my sister, and how i don’t want to believe they stop being shadowhunters, and she told me “it’s the end of an era, bby. if they stop being shadowhunters it would tie the books up perfectly. the era (saga) ends when they stop being shadowhunters”. and i asked her what the characters were supposed to do if that happened, and she said “there are always more and better things to do, and there are definitely better things than killing demons” and it helped me sort of accept and embrace this theory even more, but i did cry when she told me that, and she just laughed at me :)

the cats and neil staring adoringly at Andrew while they wait to see in which chair he's going to sit so they could choose a spot next to him
the cats and Neil staring at the front door, Andrew gets in and the cats meow at the same time as Neil says "Andrew!"
Andrew having to forcefully push the cats and neil out the bathroom so he could brush his teeth without three pairs of eyes unblinking, zeroed on him
Andrew is convinced that the cats and neil share the same singular braincell

yes! it’s perfect really, he was the one who started everything, it’s only fitting that now he’ll literally be the beginning and ending of aftg
something i am always thinking about in regard to kevin is that his decision to leave the nest, his moment where he hit his breaking point and decided he couldn't take it anymore, that's the moment that sets the whole series in motion. kevin leaving, kevin going to the foxes, it starts the chain of events that saves his life and the lives of neil, andrew, and jean. it's what gives them all a future and the strength to fight their way out. and fuck, he's scared and mean and a little cowardly, but he leaves. and it's the start of everything. it only makes sense that the story should start and end with him. kevin you are NEVER beating the main character allegations.

yes, this is the one universe that Jean lives in.
and yes, that means it’s the only one where Jeremy finds his soulmate.
it’s also the only one where Cat finds her literal ride or die best friend.
and the only one where Laila has someone else to connect with over missing roots.
it’s the only one where Cody is so appreciated for something as small as sharing fruit.
or Derek and and Derrick have someone to call “lil bro.”
it’s the only one where Xavier is accepted by a stranger without question.
it’s the only one where Tanner has such a cool mentor, even if he’s rough around the edges.
and the only one where Kevin doesn’t have to live as the only member of the perfect court.
it’s the only one where Neil would willingly go back to the state he buried his mother in.
it’s the only one where Renee gives up her cross to a friend as a string of faith.
plus the only one that Rhemann is seen as a father and not just a coach.
and it’s the only one where Jab gets adopted by a family that will love him.
Jean Moreau is as infinite as he is wonderful.
he’s the boy who didn’t want to live, but Nora asked him to anyway. and god, is he.
he’s more of a miracle than he’ll ever realize.

yes! exactly! nothing to add honestly, it’s really not that hard to understand
don’t know why some people still feel the need to make either kit or ty the bad guy in the year 2025 😭😭 The real enemy is miscommunication. Go get her ass instead.
Boy with zero self worth who thinks he’s unlovable cause of his shit father confessing his love and hearing nothing in return vs autistic boy who lost his twin sister, the person he was closest to, and was trying to resurrect her in part because he thinks other boy was in love with her hearing this at the literal worst possible moment and not even understanding what he truly meant by it. Literally there is no way it could have ended well.
Not to mention they are 15 and everyone is entitled to be a walking disaster at 15, I don’t make the rules.

I think, in the end, what really truly gets me about Aaron killing Drake is that it was completely and utterly on instinct. It wasn’t like Andrew—acting as Aaron, staging a car crash, making sure there was plausible deniability, thinking it all out.
Aaron was faster. Aaron ‘training to be a doctor’ Minyard saw Drake raping his brother and he swung that racquet on pure instinct alone hard enough to crack a man’s skull open and kill him instantly. He didn’t even think about it, he didn’t even hesitate. He murdered a marine-to-be on pure instinct for Andrew.

obsessed with the fact that aaron shared a room with andrew and neil sharing a BED for presumably a year-ish. i mean gtk he got to at least that point of tolerance but also bro definitely woke up PISSED every morning. imagine hearing the birds chirping and feel the sun shining through the window and then you roll over and there's the fuckass little brat spooning your lookalike. guess i'm ready to face the fucking day.
