the wicked powers theory
more specifically, the last shadowhunter theory
so, i was rereading city of bones and i stumbled upon this:
Tumblr media
and i immediately thought “okay, this could be it”, because now they know they can pass through the warding. so maybe that possibility of blocking the entrance of the demons is something cassie will explore in tls, even more possible if we believe the title is literal (which i initially refused to believe when i first started to think about this theory, and it took me a while to sort of wrap my head around it, because being shadowhunters is who they are, you know?)
so the last shadowhunter could be referring to them getting rid of demons by blocking their entrance, and with that it is possible for them to stop being shadowhunters, because there are no more shadows to hunt. (because i’ve been seeing some people say she might kill all shadowhunters, and unless that happens in an alternate dimension, i highly doubt she would do that to end the saga, i believe it would be meaningless to do something like that)
cob also kept me mentioning shadowhunters as “a dying breed”, so it would be sort of fitting to circle it back and dwell on it for the last book
like i said, i was initially reluctant to accept this theory, but then jace says this in cob:
Tumblr media
and i was like “shit, he’s right”. i mean, them being shadowhunters is important to me because that’s the role they play in the shadow world to me, you know? but for them, it’s a job. sure, some of them enjoy it, but maybe they could just be nephilim, just as werewolves, vampires, fey and warlocks just are. still, it was hard to totally embrace because i thought “if they don’t kill demons, then aren’t they just like mundanes?”, and i still don’t have an answer to that worry.
but the theory kept getting louder in my head because cob has constant reminders of the disadvantages of being a shadowhunter, all the ugly parts of it, how they’re in some way chained to that life of “scars and killing”.
additional note: i was telling my theory to my sister, and how i don’t want to believe they stop being shadowhunters, and she told me “it’s the end of an era, bby. if they stop being shadowhunters it would tie the books up perfectly. the era (saga) ends when they stop being shadowhunters”. and i asked her what the characters were supposed to do if that happened, and she said “there are always more and better things to do, and there are definitely better things than killing demons” and it helped me sort of accept and embrace this theory even more, but i did cry when she told me that, and she just laughed at me :)

A study of Kit and Ty's runes: Pre-TWP (SOBH) vs TWP (pre-release)
(Last image from June 2025, I'll update as we get new art!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ty wears more useful runes to help with his training as a centurion, and some investigations and missions, whereas Kit uses more practical ones. I can imagine him using them for everyday things or to learn the basics of being a shadowhunter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While in the snips from TWP, Ty we see he has fewer runes (I suppose the love one was added because it was for Pride, because it's used in weddings), and more basic and symbolic ones. For example, the insight helps the wearer better understand situations. It contrasts a lot with Kit, who uses runes for combat and some useful for missions: mnemosyne (for memory), protected and talent.
On the last art, Kit has the protected rune on his wrist. It's used to protect the mind against magical intrusions, like encantos. It's not difficult to imagine it may have something to do with the fey. And on his chest he has the talent rune, which is used as a "wish for greatness". In QOAAD, Ty drew it to Kit to help with his persuasive skills, but instead helped him unlock his magic. So I find it interesting that Kit uses it in SOBH and also in TWP (Moreover, they're different versions. It's strange because, as far as I know, there's no difference between them). What stands out to me is that Ty wears the insight rune not once, but twice, and in the same place.
But I think it may also be metaphorical, and more to do with their dynamic than the story. Ty is making an effort to understand Kit, while Kit is trying to be brave, but also protect himself, while he is hunted by his own memories.
We can see that the difference between SOBH and TWP is notable in Ty and Kit. Kit goes from more basic esporadic runes, to more advanced and combat-oriented ones, while Ty goes from more mental and skillful runes to simple ones. It's weird the difference in TWP between Ty and Kit. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, or maybe there's a reason inside the story.

going to say something controversial but I actually do believe Cassandra Clare when she says killing a Lightwood every series is unintentional. it's one of the Big Things people talk about when discussing who could die because a Lightwood has to die every series but I don't think that's something she necessarily thinks about?? like she's right, there's just A Lot of them in every series it makes sense it's always them when it comes to killing characters off. especially when other families like the Herondales/Fairchilds/Carstairs are endangered species in one or both of the eras and even then they get close to 4/4 (except for the Fairchilds?? I feel it's just Sebastian for them lol)
anyway the biggest sign to me this is all blown out of proportion and shouldn't be the end all of our theories is that you could say the exact same thing about the Blackthorns, just no one ever does. they also die every single series! Andrew in TMI, Rupert in TID, Arthur Livvy & Annabel in TDA and Tatiana in TLH. As for TWP, most of the remaining Blackthorns have plot armour at this point like who could she even kill? Tavvy? that's not a death that she can write lightly, and if she did go that route it would be extremely difficult to do so with rehashing a lot of stuff from Livvy's death. Plus hes the baby of the family like... thule!Ty died trying to save him even though it was impossible
anyway the thing is now is she knows about the "Lightwoods always die" thing because people love talking about it. so if a Lightwood dies in TWP it's because Cassandra Clare knows & thought it would be funny as far as I'm concerned 😭 literally painted that target on Maryse's (or Jace's or Izzy's..... i highly doubt it's Alec lol) forehead ourselves.

LORD SAVE ME
Ok..... Ok.
HEAR ME OUT!!
Kit's eyes turn white when he uses his powers.
I have been obsessing over this for 8 months. And. AND!!!!
LostHeir!Kit.
Like, he takes on the qualities and hivemind of all the first heirs there have ever been. And it's like the song control by halsey.
He isn't Kit anymore while he's using his powers. He's the Lost Heir. They're different people.
And it's harder to stop everytime it's used.
Am I crazy? Could this work? IDK.
BUT!!!
My delulu self will keep hoping!!!
(Side Note: What if Tessa and Jem haven't told Kit about the prophecy surrounding the first heir yet, and so he finds out in the books!?!?!)
AGHHHHH!!!!

OKAY!! This dream was so cool and I kinda wanna share my absolute nonsense theory!!
I definitely think this dream has something to do with Lucifer being the eventual villain and the impacts it’ll have on the shadowhunter world. HOWEVER: this leads the question: how? And why is Kit saying it’s Ty fault.
A really old shadowhunter theory is that Livvy is the one who will get possessed by Lucifer and honestly I’ve always supported that and I think it’s plausible. Out of any character, Livvy is probably the easiest to posses.
Okay I think possess might not be the right word since she’s a ghost? But I think Lucifer being able to control Livvy would be a really interesting concept and I think it could be likely, throughout GOTSM we see that Livvy has a very increasing fragile mind set, we even see her talk about possibly possessing Mina! Even so, we know that Livvy DOES in fact have a Ty to the living world as well (Ty, since he messed the spell up). Thisss would 100% let Lucifer do stuff behind the scenes and easily mess with the TWP cast.
This also leads back to Kit saying it’s “his fault” in the dream like sequence, as it quite literally is Ty’s fault if he does posses Livvy (since ya know he brought her back).
I have a lot of other theory’s as well, since we know that Livvy’s ritual failed, maybe Ty accidentally opened some kind of pathway into the human world?? (This also kinda links back to the fact that the pathway COULD be Livvy…)

i'm seeing a lot of people talking about evil ty and ty going dark etc based off that chapter but i have my own thoughts and i don't think ty is going to "go evil" per se. idk if anyone in this fandom is also an arcane fan but if you are you'll understand where i'm coming from. i just seriously doubt ty blackthorn would've caused all that bloodshed and destruction etc. by himself or without a very good explanation behind it that will make it make sense.
"you came" to me it sounds like this is an older ty who has lived through something terrible, and he's calling to kit so kit can help him stop it. so kit can change the fate of his world so it does not end up like this one.

Something I kind of hope to see in TWP is some interaction between Ragnor and Lily.
First of all, their dynamic would be gold. I think she could give that man more psyche damage than any amount of buildings Christopher Lightwood set fire to.
But the main reason is that, because of the material we have on her, Lily's journey seems to be related to grief (which has been a big theme in the plotlines we know of this far) and grieving Raphael in particular. So, imo, it'd be very interesting to see Lily dealing with the fact that Ragnor, Raphael's supposedly dead friend who he was still grieving when he died, is alive and thriving when her friend is not.
It's just such a fascinating scenario. Ragnor represents both, a potential companion in Lily's grief, and a constant reminder of the things Raphael missed. I'd really like to see the juxtaposition between Lily longing for someone who'd understand what losing Raphael meant for her, and the resentment towards Ragnor's survival.
Like. Do you see the potential.

imagine Jem is fighting back to back with Kit and for a second he feels like it's his old parabatai next to him and when Kit calls him dad kind of sarcastically kind of not, then it really feels like Will is there you know

Ok so first non art related post so kinda nervous but idk if anyone will see it bc my posts that aren't art tend to get nerfed
But basically since the TWP era low-key started I wanted to share a theory that's been eating at me since I read TDA and it's that Thule Kit is dead.
Idk if this has been shared before but I know that it's a popular theory that he's alive and in faerie and I'm not like opposed to that or anything it's just I think he may be dead?
I think this mostly based off of overthinking and like a gut feeling, I ahem…don't have any evidence… 😶 I just wanted to say it to get it out there otherwise I'm gonna go insane only ranting about this to my friend
I like the idea that kit and ty are together in (mostly every universe) despite the tragedy they may not be, but let a girl cope.
But also I think my theory may follow the same vein as Livvy and Ty’s situation, in that while Kit may be dead I think Rosemary is fully alive. Around the time when Thule starts to diverge from canon, Kit is around 10 yrs old and we know that Rosemary dies around Kit being discovered so when he's 15, so in Thule I think with the world basically ending she would have thought “oh fuck it” and just went to go get him. However, it is basically the apocalypse and like we see with Livvy’s situation, keeping people alive is pretty difficult so I think Rosemary ends up losing him anyways. Maybe he and Ty even die around the same time. Very much the whole one of them is alive in a universe but never both. Also with the whole wild hunt actively hunting down Rosemary thing, I think with the world basically ending she wasn't at the top of their bucket list especially with magic being leached from the world, maybe they thought it neutralized her as a threat or they thought she died with all the chaos, but also the faerie realm is closed so I don't think they could've actively hunted her even if they wanted so she's safe(?) from that whole debacle. Kit certainly wasn't an issue for them because they didn't know he existed at that time.
Basically my whole theory revolves around the tragedy of Rosemary never getting extended time with her son who she loves so intensely and I love tragic family dynamics.
Maybe Thule Rosemary and regular Kit meet? Maybe they don't, idk 🤔

Since we have seen that shadowhunters can pass between worlds (however it may happen), and since Cassie said that she’s been reading her work again to find any plot-holes, etc. I think she may do something about this paragraph in TWP, what with it being the last series
Tumblr media
ending with the Nephilim having found a way to keep the demon invasions from happening in the future.

Theory
I don't think that any of the main characters of TMI will be killed off. For one, Malec still have another book which takes place around the same time. Clary will also not die because there are two Jaces that will keep that from happening. I don't think Jace will die, but be kidnapped so that Janus can do identity theft and will probably be kept alive so that Janus can live his life. Simon and Isabelle are more based on vibes but I don't think either of them would die, however if it does end up being one of the main characters of TMI then I would vote for those two, maybe Isabelle if I had to pick on.
I believe that Clare said that it would be someone who appeared by the third book. I don't think it would be someone who appeared in the first book and we have quite a list of options. It's going to be somebody who's death would lead to conflict and they have to be relevant. If we cross out the TMI gang, then we're left with not that many options. Here's a list.
Maia Roberts
The Seelie Queen
Maryse Trueblood
Tessa Gray (She appeared briefly in City of Glass)
Jocelyn Fairchild
Luke Garroway
Aline Penhallow
If I had to pick one of them, I would pick the Seelie Queen and her killer to be Ash, Janus or Kit. Those three are because both have strong connections to her. One could be falsely accused of the murder and be hunted down by the rest of the Seelie court, probably Kit and the real killer being Janus to protect Ash in some way. Also her death would cause a power vacuum to open up for either Ash or Kit to take the throne and faeries choosing their sides.

TWP headcannon:
Drusilla is said to closly resemble her mother and most of the blackthorns look pretty similar, so I think that at some point Ty might be drugged and in the haze of trying to identify the people around him, he mistakes Dru for Livvy and/or their mother.
This could also fuel Dru’s insecurities of not being seen as her own person, but merely a replacement for someone that she deeply doesn’t want to replace/take the spot of.

So I finally found out what the poppy flower Ash gave Dru really was.
A token of safe passage to faerie as described in Codex is;
A faerie can be convinced (or bargained with) to give a human a token of safe passage usually something like a leaf or a flower. And a faerie who voluntarily brings a specific human to the revels can offer his protection and guarantee the humans ability to leave.
Second sentence is not necessarily about the token but I found it relatable since Cassie previously shared this image from Faerie previously for Halloween 2021;
Tumblr media
They seem to be in a relatively lifeless area probably in Wild Fae but her dress suggests they could be going somewhere, I think in this case a revel to find someone or do something to help rescue Jaime?! Also if tokens are mostly used to return home after revels maybe just maybe token was the reason Dru forgot he met Ash in Chapter 1 and not some other crazy magic coz humans forget fae revels after returning in most cases (I am ignoring Dru’s memory issues with Ash and closing my eyes and ears to sense with this bit of info I made up about tokens lalalalala)
This is as far as my theorizing goes for today :)

hear me out. hear me out. tid features big bad dad no. 1 (mortimer; participation trophy for Worst Father Ever award via "creating" tessa), tmi features big bad dad no. 2 (valentine, reigning champion of the Worst Father Ever award), tda features big bad dad no. 3 (unseelie king, Worst Father Ever runner-up), tlh features big bad dad no. 4 (belial, Worst Father Ever third place).
our currently known potential antags for twp, off the top of my head, are janus, the seelie queen, the cohort, lucifer, and mother hawthorn.
this is how johnny rook as lucifer can still win, swooping in to win second or maybe third place (depending on how evil he gets) in the Worst Father Ever award, completing the These People Have Bad Fathers, Who Are Also Main Antagonists circle.
