After finally catching a break from responsibilities, I had a rare night to myself—and I stayed up late painting this magnificently mournful gem.

I’ve loved Blue Diamond from the very first moment she appeared in Steven Universe, no matter the narrative that surrounded her. And after rewatching the entire series, I had to paint her again. She’s always been my favorite Diamond.

This piece means so much to me—she’s reaching for the moon, steeped in feminine energy, divine sorrow, and celestial beauty.

Perhaps I can be obsessive. What I thought would be a week-long project turned into a single-day endeavor. Maybe it’s my newfound understanding of how to properly build up layers in my artwork, but…

Here he is. Flynn 2.0.

Yes, he’s much paler in this version and leans a little more stylized compared to the realism of the first portrait—but that was intentional. I wanted to experiment with lighting and style while still capturing the charm of Flynn Silias. I’m constantly torn between full-fledged realism and a more stylized approach, and I’m still searching for a balance that feels right.

Now, with his pearly whites finally visible, you can see the little tooth gap that I find so endearing about Flynn! After rereading his short story, I also decided to emphasize his cracked, bloody lips, since I unknowingly made that a significant detail in my writing.

I honestly can’t say which version of Flynn I prefer—because to me, they’re both him.

As always, here are the reference photos I used to help me create this artwork, though I made plenty of changes to better fit his character. I originally planned on a full landscape background, but in the end, I wanted the focus to remain entirely on him.

>> Alright! Now that the main announcement is out of the way, let me explain myself.

As much as I love Flynn’s original artwork—and as much as it still captures many details of this character I hold so dearly—I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was missing something. Something that makes Flynn as charming as he is!

Yes… I am painting an entirely new portrait just to showcase one small but essential detail that didn’t quite come through in the original. His teeth!

It might seem silly, but if you’ve been following me for a while, you know how much I love highlighting the unique features that make a person who they are—while still showing their beauty. Now, I’m not saying Flynn has wild, crooked teeth or anything dramatic; it’s just a simple gap between his front two teeth. But with just a few extra strokes of paint, that tiny feature adds so much to his character.

I’m still refining his story, but one day, I’d love to share his full backstory in detail—right now, most of it is still an outline. As I recently told a very special woman, I’m a storyteller at heart. As much as I love bringing my characters to life visually, sharing their stories is what truly drives me.

But all in due time, my friends. All in due time.

I almost feel pity for those who can’t see past themselves long enough to recognize the damage they’ve caused—so caught up in their own drama that they fail to notice the bigger picture, the way the whole world struggles, not just them.

But then I remember the endless distress and pain they inflicted, and any pity I had vanishes. I gave them everything I had, only for them to hurt me in return.

I don’t expect much. At the very least, I expect basic human empathy—the effort to understand. Because that’s what I do. I’m not here to put myself on a pedestal; I’m just trying to get these anxieties and frustrations out of my head so I don’t keep clinging to this awful feeling.

I know I’m not perfect. My temper is bad. My struggles with understanding emotions are a huge hurdle. I withdraw when the world becomes too much.

But I am still growing, still learning, still healing. No one is perfect.

Maybe this is just early morning thoughts, or maybe it’s a moment of realization.

I just want to move on. To live my life the way I want without being labeled an awful person simply because I set boundaries—because I put up walls when I feel unsafe or uncomfortable.

Friendship has always been difficult for me, as have relationships in general. But I’m still trying to learn from my mistakes. And I’m so grateful for the two women in my life who take the time to understand me as I understand them—who have made me feel truly seen in a way no one else has.

But in the end, I still believe in growth. I believe some people are simply too young to understand, and if they make the effort to learn and grow, then good for them. I’m proud of anyone who chooses self-betterment over stagnation.

The world keeps spinning. It’s up to you whether you dwell in pain and sorrow or move forward toward something better.

Take the initiative. Give yourself the time and space to blossom into someone new. Some days, even lifting a spoon to your mouth will feel like a impossible task. Other days, you’ll feel unstoppable.

But I read a saying recently that feels especially true:

“There is nothing in nature that blossoms all year round—don’t expect yourself to do so.”

I am not going to apologize for protecting my mental health as it is fragile. I am allowed to step back from a situation that is causing me mental distress.

Hey all, it’s my dumb artsy ass back once again.

It’s been far too long since I’ve shared an art post here, but honestly, these intricate paintings take so much out of me—they be stealing my soul.

That said, I’m thrilled to finally introduce you to my original character, Flynn Silias.

Flynn holds a special place in my heart, and this piece reflects that—I spent weeks bringing him to life, a far cry from the single day I poured into a previous painting of a skull.

In short, Flynn was born from a deep desire for inner strength—a theme that defines his story. While I can only show you glimpses of that here, I’ve focused on what I truly find beauty in.

I’ve always been drawn to the so-called “unpopular” traits that make a person unique. For Flynn, I leaned into those “imperfections”: a hooked nose, uneven features, sunken, tired eyes, and cracked lips. I wanted him to feel real, to feel human.

For reference, here’s the photo that helped me create Flynn, though no one could ever fully capture what I’ve imagined for him.

Every brushstroke, every detail was carefully chosen to embody Flynn’s essence. As a storyteller at heart, I hope to one day share the world he inhabits with you.

Finally, here are the hidden details tucked into this painting, which make it so deeply personal.

Yes my brain is currently rotting because of these two thanks for asking. The idea for this illustration was so vivid in my mind after reading the first book that I decided it was worth the time and effort I put into it!
