Bug, 26. Applied Biology and Astrobiology student. I believe humanity has the potential to live in synchronicity with our planet. By embracing harmony with nature, humans, plants, and animals alike, can foster a sustainable future. Change begins with each of us. Strive to improve a little every day, and together we can build a better world for future generations. Achieving the status of a Type 1 (Kardashev scale) civilization might be closer than we realize!

Ok, loves, so we've all got the message that joking about suicide is bad for your mental health. Now we need to get on "joking that the planet/all of humanity has no future is bad for societal health/encouraging resistance to bad shit."

I have decided to become a walkablity extremist.
Cars should not be allowed in towns and cities at all. The only places where they should be at all present is in rural areas where any other means of transportation should be impossible.
High speed rail networks should allow for a trip from Mexico city to Montreal in under 24 hours.
All public transportation should be 100% free.
Lawns should not exist.
It doesn't make sense for single family homes to be built in most American cities.
Architecture must be beautiful again.
Every commercial street should have at least one bench.
Public restrooms must be free, common and accessible.
The pigeons are not enemies. The pigeons are freinds.

Soooo true @chillgamesh-the-swing ! Thanks for the addition!!!
How to Solarpunk-up your workplace in 3 simple steps.
A guide for the hopeful.
🌞🌻🌞🌍🌏🌎🌞🌻🌞🌍🌏🌎🌞🌻🌞🌍🌏🌎🌞🌻🌞
Step 1:
Build your idea, and get creative. What type of people exist in your workplace? What would lift their spirits? What would be useful? For what do you have space? Are there areas of improvement?
πŸ’‘: Community garden, give and take cabinet, library, space for art, one man's trash is another man's treasure-bin (for single use items turned reusable i.a. lab equipment or other disposable items), figure out how to lessen energy consumption, ask to adjust the cafeteria food into having plant-based options, or completely plant-based, organize events, etc.
Step 2:
Work out the logistics of your plan. Who do you need to ask permission for? Talk to your coworkers, do they agree with your idea? Do your coworkers want to help you, or add onto your idea? How long will this idea take? Make a plan of action. Figure out if you can add your idea into your work schedule or if it's a volunteer project. If there is no space in your company's building, is there a way you can organize something in a public place or at your own residence?
Step 3:
Create! Make flyers or stickers telling your company and coworkers about your fun new project. Make people enthusiastic. Let people know that anyone can make anything possible as long as they set their mind to it.
And remember:
When you want to change the world, you don't ask for permission.

Scientists have just discovered some rocks at the bottom of the ocean can make oxygen... and they do it in complete darkness!
These aren’t magic stones, they’re polymetallic nodules, potato-sized metal lumps packed with manganese, cobalt, and nickel.
But here’s the twist; when seawater flows over their surfaces, they generate tiny electric currents that can split water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. No sunlight, no photosynthesis, just deep-sea chemistry creating breathable gas in the pitch black.
This β€œdark oxygen” could explain how deep-sea creatures survive in low-oxygen zones far from the surface. What's even wilder is that if this can happen on Earth, it could be happening right now in the hidden oceans of Europa or Enceladus, two icy moons that scientists think might host alien life.

Submitted for classification by @blogjustforasks
"The elegant Pelagothuria natatrix or Jellyfish Sea Cucumber. Yes, you read that right, it’s a sea cucumber, one that can swim, although it’s probably less 'swimming' and more 'controlled drifting'."

The fringe Parasitic Encephalization Theory claims our nervous system is a parasite that took over the body of the earliest vertebrate ancestor. It captures 20% of the body's resources, while staying separate from the blood and being considered unique by the immune system.
While very few defend this theory, one fact supports it: If the body dies while the skull is open, the brain and spinal cord sometimes detach and briefly flail outside, in what could perhaps be an ancient host-seeking reflex.

March 29, 1974 β€” Mariner 10 flies by Mercury, becoming the first spacecraft to visit two planets
Launched in late 1973, Mariner 10 flew by Venus and Mercury and was the first spacecraft to use a gravity assist maneuver. It was the last Mariner probe and the only spacecraft to visit Mercury until NASA's MESSENGER orbiter in the mid-2000s.
Read more about the Mariner missions here!

Ayoo just to preempt the inevitable dumb takes we’re about to start seeing;
I am PRO-WOOL
I am PRO-LEATHER
I am PRO-BEES
Fuck the idea of replacing durable, sustainable animal products with cheap, flimsy plastic that doesn’t bio-degrade. Agave nectar and other artificial sweeteners are expensive, labor-intensive, and destroy the environment to be farmed.
Do not buy into pernicious marketing campaigns pushed by dickhead organizations trying to stay relevant, like PETA.
