Araw Lane ☀️ I whipped up this illustration to be used for the Games Con Canada build of our game, Keeps, but we ended up having to cut out this content because we were running out of time.
Still wanted to share this though. I was really proud of the colours I chose and the rendering overall!

Finally finding out what this Solarpunk illustration I drew for @andrew-ism back in February is for. It's featured in this video :D I have yet to watch it but I trust it'll be good.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is meant to be a mall that's been repurposed by and for the community, turned from a place of consumption into a great hangout spot where you can chill, have a meal, borrow some books or tools, exchange out clothes you don't wear for ones you like better and let another person take yours etc.

You can find the full-res version at the Story Seed Library.
(In hindsight, could've filled that elevator wall with more art...I also feel like I could've done more research for the whole piece, but at this point it is what it is).

Jocelyn Lena's mindscape is the first of many Penny and Junebug will traverse in Mind or Matter. An idyllic solarpunk world of bright sun and institutes of learning, something darker lurks beneath the surface, which the duo will uncover together!
This is concept art for my currently in pre-production webcomic Mind Or Matter! If you are interested in seeing more, please give the blog a follow to keep up to date on progress!

I forgot to post this here omg. I made this hair clip using this chip I found broken on the ground. I was assuming it was a super busted thumb drive , but a discord mutual suggested it might be part of an Arduino or similar device!! Lmk if you know what it is !! But yeah I'm enjoying making trinkets w repurposed tech, I also made some w key caps from a busted keyboard, pics of that later. Not a super original concept, but it's a fun idea to mess w! And reduces waste :))

Happy Solarpunk aesthetic week!
This semester I took a textile surface design class and this is the result (I may actually post more stuff from this class as the week goes on, teehee)! I mended a friend’s skirt with sashiko-inspired techniques and natural dye samples (mostly indigo). The sashiko meant that I could leave lots of raw edges that make the project look more organic. It’s a lovely skirt, and it’s so old that it has an Illinois garment union tag on it. Imagine buying a new garment from an American union. Imagine knowing your garment worker was well-paid and well-treated. That’s the dream.

How to Solarpunk-up your workplace in 3 simple steps.
A guide for the hopeful.
🌞🌻🌞🌍🌏🌎🌞🌻🌞🌍🌏🌎🌞🌻🌞🌍🌏🌎🌞🌻🌞
Step 1:
Build your idea, and get creative. What type of people exist in your workplace? What would lift their spirits? What would be useful? For what do you have space? Are there areas of improvement?
💡: Community garden, give and take cabinet, library, space for art, one man's trash is another man's treasure-bin (for single use items turned reusable i.a. lab equipment or other disposable items), figure out how to lessen energy consumption, ask to adjust the cafeteria food into having plant-based options, or completely plant-based, organize events, etc.
Step 2:
Work out the logistics of your plan. Who do you need to ask permission for? Talk to your coworkers, do they agree with your idea? Do your coworkers want to help you, or add onto your idea? How long will this idea take? Make a plan of action. Figure out if you can add your idea into your work schedule or if it's a volunteer project. If there is no space in your company's building, is there a way you can organize something in a public place or at your own residence?
Step 3:
Create! Make flyers or stickers telling your company and coworkers about your fun new project. Make people enthusiastic. Let people know that anyone can make anything possible as long as they set their mind to it.
And remember:
When you want to change the world, you don't ask for permission.

This is a blank for people to put text on, and here’s the two text ones that I put over
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyone can print them and put them up and around town! Especially since it’s Solarpunk Action Week! Thank you again Squid for making this beautiful artwork! Let’s make a better future together!

I like solarpunk as a theme or concept, but most solarpunk art doesn't quite work for me. For the most part, you've got Manhattan, But With Lots Of Trees or Happy Cottagecore With Robots.
What's missing, for me, is a sense of connection with where we are now. Both of the standard solarpunk visions present a world that has already been completely transformed. There's no hint of what it took to get from now to then, no evidence of what people had to overcome, to sacrifice, to pull humanity out of its ecological nose-dive.
I'd love to see a solarpunk city depicted in the process of being rebuilt. Show me old buildings being torn down, and new ones being built from the salvaged materials. Show me a tower with hanging gardens and wind turbines that's clearly a modified, pre-existing structure. Show me a lovely green zone that's still expanding into a reclaimed industrial park.
Maybe it's just me, but depictions of good futures fell like pure, unattainable fantasy without a connection to the present. For me, hope comes with imagining the path that gets us there.
