Mercurial Knight looked over at a very upset Stardust. He had been strangely quiet all evening. It felt weird being the one to carry most of the conversations, seeing as he was the quiet one.

“Are… you feeling alright?” Mercurial Knight broke the silence. He hesitantly hovered a hand over his companion’s shoulder before deciding against it. “You’ve been awfully quiet tonight.”

Stardust glanced at him. “I’m fine.” He thought for moment. “Well… I’ve been… upset.”

“Want to talk about it?” Mercurial Knight leaned on him. Anxiety started to creep up his spine, despite his attempts to push it away. Stardust shook his head.

“It’s not like anything happened today,” He tried to explain, “It’s just…”

“There?” The faerie finished his sentence for him, earning a small smile from the starry being. His heart sped up at the sight. Trying to ignore it and continue the conversation, “Is there anything I can do to help?”

Stardust sighed. “I don’t know…” He then gained a curious expression. “What do you normally do when this happens?”

Mercurial Knight hummed, “Train or spar.” When he caught the starry being’s cute head tilt, he elaborated. “It tires me out and it usually gives me room to think.” His brain then helpfully supplied him with memories of his strategy not helping and sometimes even making it worse. “Again, usually. It doesn’t always happen in that way.”

Stardust looked thoughtful. It was a good look on him, he thought absentmindedly. Eyes narrowed, looking up, brows knitted together, hand gently hold his chin— he quickly looked away. He was never more grateful than now that their meetings were held in the dark.

“Can… can we do that? Spar?” Stardust asked, much to the faerie’s surprise. “It doesn’t sound like it could make anything worse.”

Mercurial Knight nodded and rose to his feet, gesturing for him to do the same. His wings fluttered as he took flight to be at eye level at with the giant. “Do you want to do rounds, or just go until you feel better?”

Stardust shrugged. “I guess the second option?” He looked a little nervous.

The commander gave a quick nod. “Then just keep collateral damage to a minimum.” He flew to the other side of the small clearing. He quickly dusted himself off. He then called out, “Ready?”

“Ready!” A bright light enveloped Stardust before he shifted into his avian form and flew up high. Adrenaline rushed through his veins. He hadn’t seen this form yet, but Stardust had described it. Before he could distract himself further, Mercurial Knight shot up in the air after him.

As he zipped around and away from his companion’s beating wings, he made a few observations. Asides from harpy’s incredible size, each beat of his wings sent out a powerful gusts of wind. Heat radiated off of him. It was nearly unbearable, but Mercurial Knight was unnaturally cold. But to his own advantage, Stardust couldn’t move fast enough to keep his eyes on him. He was actually able to land a few hits (more like taps) on him. This had been going on for a few minutes at this point.

“How are you doing that?!” Stardust cried out as he spun around, trying to find him. He was fluttering above his head. In a moment of “brilliance”, he hovered down behind his head. He gently cupped his cheek.

“I’m just faster.” He whispered in his ear. For a moment, everything with still. He could feel his face heat up under his touch, flustered. Cute, he thought.

The still moment passed quickly as Stardust started to flail, trying to smack the faerie. Mercurial Knight tried to reason why the hell he did that to himself as he zipped away. A gust of wind knocked him off course and sent him spiraling toward the ground. Thankfully, he landed safely… and on his bad leg. Pain shot up through his body and, purely an instinctive move, knelt onto the ground and grimaced. It didn't hurt very much — though his standard was high — but it was... largely inconvenient.

“Are you okay?” Stardust was very suddenly next to him, arm — wing? — wrapped around him. He looked up at his extremely concerned expression. “I-I didn’t—“

Suddenly, Mercurial Knight found himself laughing and waving off his concern. He wasn’t sure why, but a warm feeling had bubbled up into him. Clearly, Stardust was just as confused. “I’m fine,” He said when he finished laughing, a bit out of breath, “You didn’t do anything wrong. Just landed weird.” He had told him about his leg, right? Probably.

Stardust visibly relaxed. He couldn’t find the words to describe the his expression. Fond? Affectionate? No… that wasn’t right. The harpy wrapped him up in his wings.

“I think you need to go to sleep.”

“… do you feel better though?”

“Yes. Now I’m tired.”

Ah, he was stuck here now, wasn’t he?

Accepting his fate, he nuzzled into his chest. "Just wake me up before dawn, okay?"

"Understood."
