When thinking about possible tattoos to get, this quote immediately sprung to mind. A beautiful quote that encompasses one of the cult classics of our time and would make for a wonderful tattoo. But then I sat there and thought more deeply about these words (considering that they would be permanently etched into my flesh forever) and I realised something; to get these words tattooed would be disingenuous to me as a person and do a great disservice to the text from which it came.

I have the ambition, just not the drive and so all my endeavours thus far have seemingly fallen slightly short. Yes, there is a lot I have achieved and I am in no way discrediting all that, but, in the grand scheme of it all the words just do not match up with the lines of my life. What I am currently doing with my life and the path that it is heading down moreso lean into the sentiment that I will amount to nothing, that I will be nothing. Which does seem a bit dramatic and I agree, but in the binary of this quote it seems that I fit more into the category of nothing than something.

This is not just because I am a woman going into/studying a male dominated field, no, because countless women before and after me have amounted themselves to greatness despite these odds. It just seems as though there's not a lot of room for greatness in the common man's workplace and so an average pay and a mediocre life are reasonably predicted within my near future. The quote "I want to be great or nothing" does not make room for the common person. Yes, we would want to be idyllic, but realistically 'average' and 'mediocre' (word's I'm using to describe myself, very dramatically albeit, not you beautiful people) fit more in the 'nothing' category. I would feel like an imposter if I got those words stamped into my skin and I would feel the burden of that lie everywhere I went thereafter. Even if no one else cared, or noticed; because it is the essence of me as a person preventing me from getting and living out this quote. I would care and I would notice.

So, in short, I'm brainstorming for a new tattoo idea.
