fandom: Portal characters: Chell, GLaDOS
AN: Hey there guys. Sorry, I haven't been on here for a while, haha... But here is a new Portal ff. This is a totally different Chell then the one I wrote in 'Home', but it was kida fun trying something else here. And the soft confused 'Home'-Chell wouldn't have really fit the story anyway. And for some reason OpenOffice thinks it's funny to change GLaDOS to GlaDOS...
Oh, also, this story is for gelegenheits-stalker, I hope you like it.
"To maintain a constant testing cycle, I simulate daylight at all hours and add adrenal vapor to your oxygen supply. So you may be confused about the passage of time. The point is, yesterday was your birthday. I thought you'd want to know."
'Really now.' Chell frowned. 'Yay', she thought, the tiny voice in her mind laced with sarcasm, while her face remind stoic. 'Good to know. You could have used that time to give me some useful information though.' Her gaze scanned the room, the little gears in her brain turning as she figured out the right way to solve the puzzle this particular test chamber contained. She looked determined as she fired a portal to the ceiling.
'But when do you ever?'
"I have a surprise waiting for you after this next test.”
'The last thing I need from you is a surprise, you creepy robot.' She frowned. She definitely liked GLaDOS better before she got this chatty. Well... 'liked' would probably be the wrong word.
“Telling you would spoil the surprise-” Chell ignored her after that – she needed to concentrate if she didn't want to die a – more or less – painful death. And she didn't care fore GLaDOS's rambling and her surprise anyway.
"I'll bet you think I forgot about your surprise. I didn't.”
'Pity...' Chell was breathing heavily as she leaned against the wall of the elevator. This stupid test-marathon was taking it's tall on her and more than anything, right now, she wished GLaDOS would just shut up.
“In fact, we're headed to your surprise right now. After all these years. I'm getting choked up just thinking about it."
“Tch.” 'How about you choke to death instead?' But that would probably be to easy.
The first thing she felt when she entered the room was immense confusion. Because it was empty. It shouldn't be empty. She frowned as she scanned the room. 'The fuck's going on here?'
Of course, GLaDOS had an answer for that, too.
"Initiating surprise in three...”
'Oh please no.'
“two...” 'I really don't want it.'
“ one."
The ceiling tile above her opened and a handful of confetti fluttered down and landed on her hair and shoulders.
"I made it all up."
Her eyebrow started to twitch.
"Surprise."
She bit her lip, feeling annoyance well up inside here.
'Keep calm. She's just trying to mess with you.'
"Oh come on... If it makes you feel any better, they abandoned you at birth, so I very seriously doubt they'd even want to see you."
Chell lowered her head, her gaze now fixed on the floor tiles. 'Yeah, well...'
She had no idea where she had turned out to be now, but she was pretty sure it was not the exit. It was dark here but it didn't bother her too much. Above her, Wheatley was rambling – again – but she had tuned him out a while ago, so that didn't bother her that much either.
She looked up at the weathered banner right under the ceiling. 'Bring your daughter to work day'.
'Huh.' She moved on, passing various potato batteries until she stumbled about one that looked … different. 'Well...that's a big potato.' She leaned in a bit closer and frowned. Was that... was that her name in the right corner? It couldn't be, but it probably was. Her free hand reached out and tenderly touched the childish signature, a connection to a past she could not quite remember.
Then she took a step back. There was a soft smile on her face as she brushed some leftover confetti out of her hair.

So a while ago I got this request. Dear anon, I am so sorry I took so long! But with my internet being down for so long and gamescom and my own internship I kinda lost track of it… But its finished now! I’m not that happy with it, but I really hope you like it! <3
Also, I took some liberties with the scientists name (cause they aren’t mentioned anywhere?) and freed Intern Dana from the dog park for an evening, because I love her and she had to be in this ficlet. also I picked up some ideas from headcanons going around
———-
„So, tonight’s on you, Dana”, says one of the scientists and pats her on the shoulder. “Again.” “Why?”, Intern Dana (or her doppelgänger) asks.

fandom: Portal post Portal 2 pairing: very very hinted Chell/GLaDOS, if you squint
AN: Wow, this took forever. I had this typed up for months but I just couldn't get the end down. Still not perfectly happy with it, but it's fine the way it is I guess. (Story under cut for length, I hope you like it!)
When she is catapulted out of the door, she hits the floor. Hard. She feels that her hands are scrapped from the rough concrete she has landed on and her knees ache from the impact.
She lifts one of her hands and looks at it, mildly shocked to see blood on it. She has been through a lot of pain in that facility, but she cannot remember ever being injured. It's almost like Aperture Science turned her into something else completely, something indestructible, and only now that she has left has she turned back into a human being.
'Is it worth it?', she wonders for a second.
A moment she just lays there on the floor then she pushes herself up. Her body feels heavier than before. Behind her, she can still hear the turrets sing behind the closed metal door. Or maybe that's just in her mind. It seems to be long ago when she still could distinguish between reality and imagination.
After a moment though, they grow silent.
Maybe that's why she's so startled that she almost jumps when the door behind her flies open again.
She shoots around, just in time to see her Companion Cube crash on the floor right in front of her.
It is blackened with soot, but apart from that it looks completely unharmed, even though she threw it into a pit of fire. But then again, wasn't all Aperture Science equipment build to withstand temperatures up to 5000 degrees Kelvin? She wonders why she even remembers that...
She takes a shaking step towards it and kneels down. Slowly she reaches her hand out and touches the dirty surface. It vibrates gently against her fingers, just like it used to.
She wonders why GLaDOS bothered with giving it back to her. Maybe as....No. Most likely, it was just taking up space and she didn't need it anymore. Like she didn't need her now.
She sighs. She softly pats the cube before she picks it up.
Then she turns around and stares at the massive corn field in front of her. A soft wind ruffles her hair.
Just what is this place? She can't remember seeing it when she first came to Aperture Science. Well, she can't really remember how she ended up here at all, but it confuses her that a laboratory like this should have been build in the middle of a corn field. She turns her head and looks again at the door. It looks like the roof top of a skyscraper. That would make sense but then again...she looks at the plants again. There is now way corn could ever grow that high...
But then why is it that the emergency exit of Aperture Science is located in the middle of a field, far away from anything that suggest that there are other humans anywhere near this place? Was it just that they chose to build their facility away from other people's prying eyes, to hide what they were actually doing? Or was it just as GLaDOS said and she really is the last human left on earth? If so...just how much time did she spend down there?
For a moment she just stares off into the distance, then she sits down at the edge of the concrete platform that surrounds the door.
On of her feet reaches cautiously down into the see of corn. She's relieved when after a moment, it touches the ground.
So at least she really isn't on top of a building surrounded by metres high wheat. She sighs heavily – maybe a bit relieved. Whatever gave her the idea that that could actually be true?
After another cautious moment, she finally slides down from the concrete plateau and softly lands on the ground below.
The wheat is still unbelievably tall, like nobody had cut it in years – or ever for that matter. It reaches almost up to her chest and she can't spot the ground because it blocks her view.
As she stands there, she turns her head and looks back at the door she came threw.
'Just go!' She knows it's an exit. It would never be an entrance for her.
She's finally free to go, where ever her feet may take her.
Venturing forward seems difficult. The cube feels heavier in her arms with every step – she isn't used to carrying things normally anymore.
It seems like she isn't even going anywhere – where ever she looks, all she can see is wheat. And more wheat. And even more wheat. The only thing that even allows her to keep a bit of orientation is the door behind her in the middle of a sheer endless field, and it gets smaller and smaller with each step she takes.
It doesn't feel right to descend so far from the only orientation left – from the only thing in this vast space that still seems real.
And that is what is wrong here, isn't it? That is what seems to be bothering her.
This world outside doesn't seem real. At least not as real as the laboratories she just escaped from did.
Being free doesn't seem as real as being imprisoned.
She doesn't recognize this world anymore – and how should she when she can't even recognize herself. But what does that even mean when she doesn't know who the real 'her' is. The only 'her' she can remember is a bitter, mute woman who apparently always wants what she can't have.
It's actually almost laughable when she thinks about it – that she would ever even consider setting one foot back into this hellhole after escaping it – just not escaping it but more like being released. Before, it would have never crossed her mind. Now, it's constantly sitting there, in the back, scratching at the surface and hitting her straight on the second she stops concentrating on something else.
She looks down at the Companion Cube she's still cradling in her arms. There is a questioning look on her face while she does so.
'What do you think?'
Of course, he won't answer her, she knows that. The time inanimate objects would talk to her ended the second she set foot on that field – or at least she hopes it did. But if he could, he would probably tell her to run as fast as she can as far as she can.
But she won't. She won't and actually, the realization that indeed she won't hits her hard, takes her completely by surprise – or does it? Yes, maybe it does. But there is some part of her, some tiny little part buried deep inside of her under a pail of doubt and confusion, that she thinks maybe knew all along, knew the second she stumbled through that door into the outside world, knew that she shouldn't – wouldn't – couldn't run from this.
For a moment she stands there, completely motionless, her gaze empty, her muscles tense and all her energy twisted into a tight knot inside her stomach. Then, a second later, all that tension suddenly uncoils. She shoots around so fast she almost drops her Companion Cube and starts running, faster than she ever thought she could.
She runs, and runs, and runs, her arms curled tightly around the Cube, her gaze fixed on the horizon, on that small spot she knows is that cursed door. She dashes through the ears that still surround her, until she's out of breath, until she can't feel anything in her legs than a dumb, throbbing pain.
But she doesn't stop, not until she flies through that metal door which with a loud BANG falls shut behind her.
With each step she takes boots cause a loud, metallic noise that echoes eerily in the shaft-like part of the building as she follows the emergency stairs that spiral down seemingly endlessness into the abyss. They are old, rusty, wobbly and each of her steps makes them shake and her shiver in fear they might break lose from the wall and cause her downfall.
In her head she can hear GLaDOS' voice – 'It's because you're so fat~' - but she ignores it and moves on. Although, now she really wishes she had her portal device back, because that would make everything so much easier.
When she reaches the end of the emergency stairs she first doesn't know where to go so she stops.
The second she isn't moving any more she is enveloped by darkness and the eery nothingness of silence. She feels lost and, more uncomfortable than scared really, clutches her Companion Cube tighter against her chest. It vibrates softly against her in an attempt to give comfort and she still doesn't know if this is real.
For a moment she just stands there, then she slows down her breathing to an even pattern and closes her eyes, listening into the silence. A few seconds she cannot hear anything but her own slow heartbeat but then there it is – off in the distance she hears a soft mechanic hum. She opens her eyes and follows the sound down the hallway into the darkness.
She rounds corners and is almost at the point of losing track of time when the hall suddenly ends before her and opens into a brightly lit room. She stops a few steps in front of it and waits. Nothing happens. Slowly, she puts her Companion Cube down and then she steps into the light.
There she is, at the far end of the room. Her back is turned to her and at first it seems she doesn't notice her presents but she must have heard her steps because suddenly, accompanied by the mechanic hum she feels used to by now, GLaDOS turns around to face her.
'Oh. You're back.' She doesn't react, just keeps walking towards her and stops right in front, a faint smile on her lips. Slowly, she raises her arms and wraps them around GlaDOS' head.
And then Chell whispers 'I'm home.'

5). Destruction
A sharp wind blows over the hill and cathes her hair, the long black stands fluttering behind her; they are the only thing that moves - because there is nothing else left that could move.
With the wind also comes the bitter smell of blood - and death. It fills her mouth with a metallic taste which she knows will still linger on her tongue when the scent as long since vanished.
She stands on top of the hill - clad in black that casts a sharp contrast to her white skin; dangerous and beautiful as the Goddess of Death she is - and looks down on the vast empty valley below.
A path of destruction lies in her wake, littered with the corpses of those she defeated. She doesn't know why she kills them. She turns her head and looks at them, blue eyes as emotionless as ever. The only thing she knows is that she will bring more destruction upon this world - until it is as empty as herself.

4). Braids
"You've got to be kidding me..."Natalia frowned while Mei gently brushed her long blond hair. "Aww, Natalia, now don't look at me like that", the Aisian woman chirped happily. "You'll look adorable with braids!" Natalia's frown only deepened. "I look stupid with braids. I know - I've tried." But Mei just shook her head vehemently. "Nu-uh. Adorable, I say. Adorable." Natalia sighed. "If you like braids so much why don't you braid your own hair?" She laughed. "Because that's no fun, silly!" Natalia just sighed again. There was no point in arguing with Mei.

Odd Pair
A queasy feeling filled her stomach as Natalia nervously shifted from one foot to the other. She looked left, then right, then to the bag in her hand then she ran up the stairs in front of her and knocked on the door. While she waited for someone to open, she pulled the book out of the bag and looked it. It had been really hard to read since she still had so much trouble understanding the language that it was almost embarrassing. But she had to admit that she had liked it very much and she was almost sad to give it back to its owner.
She flinched as the door suddenly opened and immediately she threw the book back in to the bag. “Hey, 'Talia, what up?” She frowned while she looked the man in front of her over then she pushed the bag against his chest. “Here's your book.” Grinning, Gilbert took it. “So. You liked it?” Natalia blushed and looked away. “The was complete and utter crap, okay.”

3). Cyber Space
panda_hero: Hahaha, lol, that was funny indeed!
himawari: Sure was.
panda_hero: hey. panda_hero: You sure you're alright?
Natalia stares at the screen for a moment and bites her lip as she feels the familiar burning in her eyes.
himawari: Yeah, sure, all fine. himawari: uhm...look, Mei, it's late already, I think I'm going to bed
panda_hero: okay. nighty, I love you °3
himawari: love you too. Good night.
She bows her head as if to hide as tears start to run down her face. It's not fair. She's so far away. She loves her so much and it's just not fair.

2). Truth or Dare
"Truth or dare?", Natalia asked. "Truth", Gilbert answered. She seemed to contemplate that for a moment. "Do you love me?" He grinned. "No." They looked at each other. "So, truth or dare?" She held his gaze, not moving one bit. "Truth." "Do you love me?" Natalia raised a brow. "...Dare." Gilbert's grin only widened, as if he had expected that. "Kiss me~"
