the old guy in front of me at the theoretical astrophysics colloquium keeps shaking his head at everything the speaker says and asking long meandering accusatory questions

Heyy, I've a question about majors, actually.
I'm real interested in astronomy, and as a undergrad, would love to take up that very subject. But I was told that it's not really a subject for UG, but a specialisation subject for Phd. Now I'm really confused because after doing my research for a while I realised that some universities offer astronomy as a UG degree, and some don't.
Well, i guess in short I just wanna know what course should I really take if I wanna do UG in astronomy as a major (minor is a different thing, I'll consider it as stuff goes). So since you are a student of this very subject, could you guide me?
I hope I'm not asking for a lot. Thank you .
Yeah, some universities don't offer astronomy as an undergraduate major. People say you can just major in physics and then do an astronomy phd, and they're right, but if you really love astronomy you would be happier at a school with an astronomy program. I'm not sure if that answered your question, so you can message me if you want!
(keep in mind that I'm american so I'm not totally sure how much my advice applies to other countries' systems)

would u guys hate me if i became a vlogger
im thinking of starting a mega low-effort yt channel for vlogging about my experience as an astronomy student bc i feel like so many people are constantly posing or overstating their successes or afraid to admit to uncertainty
#and i feel like this kind of channel is exactly what ive always looked for but never been able to find#like if there are high schoolers and college students out there who are like me then they NEED this#university#academia#undergraduate#astronomy#undergrad#studyblr#college#physics#student#astrophysics#youtube#vlog

the key to surviving grad school (also maybe life but definitely grad school) is to pick a side quest every few months or so. something that brings you joy and that you can get better at over time, independent of whether or not your research or classes are going well. put your need for academic validation to use in a non-academic setting and everything will feel less dire and you will learn you are more than your work
