It is going to be glorious going forward, since for Montresor, he’s now stuck in a psychological horror, constantly feeling that his sanity might slip away as he desperately attempts to process what the hell is going on. For Will though, he’s just having a bit of a wacky week

Will blames himself for Monty's violent behaviour towards him time after time again. Despite realizing he's toxic towards him he stays all the same.

"that mother who broke her daughter's legs in two and said it's too dangerous out there so, I had to save you."

Montresor's mother is trying to help him in the flashback but makes everything worse without even really realizing she's harming him. Also, to point out the obvious, his leg is broken in this scene.

"where did you find his shoes, the lock of my hair?"

This one's just silly, but Will has a habit of losing things, he's also missing a slipper in chapter 120.

"all we did was kiss, on my grave I swear."

I realized while editing that she's swearing on her grave, not that they kissed on her grave, but in a more literal sense, they kissed shortly before Will died in the same spot. Montresor has religious trauma so... you can bet on him feeling like that crossed some kind of religious boundary, even though he's an atheist now he'll still feel conflicted about kissing a man.

Not in the edit but other lyrics from this:

"my mother says that I will surely go to hell, please be a good man, please say you won't tell."

Period-typical homophobia anyone? This applies to both for obvious reasons, but Will actually had the courage to act for once instead of blindly following his orders, kissing Montresor, who, again, has religious trauma (yay, even more homophobia from the church!). Again, taking it really literally, if Montresor's mother knew about this, she'd tell him he'll go to hell, and considering the time period it's safe to assume the same would happen with Will. Less literally, they'd be worried about getting rejected by everyone else if they knew about this.
