would you ever consider making a tutorial of how you create your edits?

We did a brief one in the past on some basic editing techniques, but it definitely needs updating and revising so I'm not gonna link it haha. Not because I'm on mobile.

But uhh you kind of read our minds. Cereal and I were just discussing today maybe making a series of YouTube tutorials on a few different sorts of effects, how to search for royalty free sounds online, how to capture music for editing without getting a big honkin virus, etc.

The problem is we can't do smth as straightforward as "here's how we make our edits!" bc the process differs so much from project to project. So it would have to be disconnected videos on requested topics, like "how to make the song sound like it's on a radio" or "how to check a project's audio quality and export properly".

So I guess I'm not sure?? Honestly a lot of what I learned to do I learned from YouTube. I'm sure Cereal would say the same. On the flip side, not to pay myself on the back or anything but I am in education and I know for sure I can explain things better than some of the videos I've seen dksjdks

What are our followers thoughts?? Is this something you'd like to see? Is there something else you'd like to see from us? Feel free to chime in pls

Linger by the Cranberries but you’re out in the woods, all alone. You were smart (sort of) and managed to build a lean-to to keep you sheltered from the sudden storm, but now you’re stuck here… Watching the fire crackle and hiss.

You have your radio on in case of forest fire (though you don’t quite understand how to use it, and you’re not sure you’d know if there was an emergency broadcast). It makes a delicate hissing noise that you can hardly hear over the wind and rain. Endless white noise.

Then, out of nowhere, a song. A song that’s familiar in an unfamiliar way– you know it, but couldn’t sing it. Hear the words but can’t understand them.

You lean back. Close your eyes. And wonder if anyone’s missing you.

Odds Are by The Barenaked Ladies but you’re on a road trip with your friends. Not the fun kind of road trip, either… the kind where you’re all crammed in a car that sorta smells weird and your knees are stiff and your arm’s asleep and you just wanna get OUT

Especially since the sun is so warm, and the breeze so cool…

You roll down the window and turn up the radio, because music always seems to make the worst occasions better.

As we mentioned in an earlier post, Mod Mushroom got caught up in an extremely demanding project as lead audio mixer/editor and foley artist. They actually juuuuuuust finished up a few weeks back, and understandably needed a break from the hours upon hours in noise-cancelling headphones.

As a result, Mod Cereal took a break from the blog as well. We are each other's motivation to fulfill requests, after all, so if one of us is burnt out, the other tends not to do much.

The good news is that you all may tentatively expect some new content in the next few days!! Mushy's feeling renewed and is ready to get back at it

The other good news is that the demanding project Mushroom worked on has given them access to some fun new gadgets (really nice mic and a small midi keyboard!!) as well as some larger sfx libraries. Also, working non-stop in a project like that has uh. Sharpened their skills a bit.

TL;DR we'll be back soon, we hope!! With fun new toys and experience to sweeten the deal

Hold Yourself Tight by The Scary Jokes, but you’re sitting against a rock next to the biggest Prickly Pear you’ve ever seen. You brought your little travel radio out with you, and placed it beside you in the sand. As the sound of the crickets starts to become white noise, and the distant rumble of thunder stirs the air, you reach over and turn up the volume of the radio.

Static fills your ears. What was once a quiet station, you thought, begins to play you a song. It is familiar, yet foreign, and oddly appropriate.

Take me Home, Country Roads by John Denver, but... well, let’s be honest. When that guy showed up at your doorstep hawking personal bomb shelters, you jumped at the opportunity. What, like you’d just like the coming nuclear apocalypse take you? Like some kinda sucker? You know better.

So you’re alone in your shelter when an emergency broadcast comes on and a man announces, shockingly calm, that a bomb has been launched and the world is entering its final hours. You hear the blast, which shakes the earth, and the accompanying blaze which engulfs the surrounding forest... and something strange comes over you.

You’re safe. You’re safe in your shelter in the woods. So why would you run to the door, open the seal, and venture out into the fire? Why run to the edge of the bluff and look down on the city burning beneath you? 

You don’t know. But that is what you do.
