Christopher Belmont: vow fulfilled!
Tumblr media
I expressed the idea to draw Christopher Belmont last October, but only now have I actual taken time out of my day and night to do it.
Last year, when I created that document proposing how I'd construct a remake of this man's 2nd - and last - adventure, the Game Boy classic Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge, I also envisioned a redesign for him, rather than the traditional designs seen on the box arts.
I maintained some of those old-school elements, but also made him more suited up. This is the older Christopher, who is now a father to a teenaged son, so for his final quest, I could see him dressed to be as protected from the elements that awaited him as possible. I got him sporting a mail shirt, a fur coat and a leather chest plate, a pair of pants like in The Adventure ReBirth (but green) to go with those knee guards, and some foot warmers on the bottom of his leather boots.
I chose black for his hair, matching his 8-bit sprite, added the blue eyes from the IDW comic book mini-series, The Belmont Legacy, and gave him a moustache, a beard and a hair bun to accentuate his physical maturity. About time someone in this family wore their hair like this.
Here is our guy brandishing the Vampire Killer whip in its Morning Star form, complete with the Fireball Tip, ready to face down the forces of darkness and Chaos itself. He's also ready to bust out the short sword, whenever he needs it.
Maybe sometime, I'll draw Soleil too. Fancily dressed, evil Soleil.

Castlevania Decade
We're a decade away from the year Soma Cruz got drawn to Dracula's Castle inside an eclipse and destroyed Chaos.
Also, the year after this will mark the 450th anniversary of Christopher Belmont's first triumph over the Count himself.

Some time ago, in the time IDW Sonic Issue #76 has been out, I noticed something.
Tumblr media
We have Lanolin, a recently fleshed out character. She's a leading figure in a group, and she's motivated by an event that left her mentally shattered, so she wanted to save others from the same experience. In a story that gave her heavy focus, she acted bitter and especially controlling, got violent even, showed disregard for greater consequences around her, and when finally faced with the reality of what she's doing and seeing what mess she's contributing to, she recognizes her folly, turns into a sorrowful mess, and apologizes for not opening her eyes up sooner, and almost destroying something. In turn, she is forgiven and given a chance to be better.
But, regardless of her genuine remorse and learning a valuable lesson, a set of fans angered about her recent actions think not only did she get off easy, but that her mistakes have defined who she is, no matter how much better she could do, and she can't, and shouldn't, come back from them.
You know? I have seen this before. It was back in the 2010s, when I was in my 20s, and one of the most beloved cartoon shows of that decade was running: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
Tumblr media
This is Starlight Glimmer all over again, and Lanolin isn't even a former villain!
What did you think of Lanolin in the new issue?
After what she put her “friends” through and showed how incompetent she is, the whole group hug thing comes off as rather infuriating. Let off far too easily.

Slight nostalgia.

Dear Sonic "fan", what are you talking about?!
Tumblr media
Not a rhetorical question! Talk sense!
I'm not even a big Sage fan myself (she's just okay in my book, nothing spectacular), but... Creator's Pet?! Sonic Frontiers is almost 3 years old, and outside of mentions on TailsTube, pieces of official artwork, freaking Minecraft and cameos such as those in the Frontiers prologue animation and Murder of Sonic, Racing CrossWorlds is only her second appearance!
Idiot. Just... idiot. Then again, you don't even know what "victim blaming" means.

"If it bothers you, just ignore it!"
Anyone who has ever told me this (you should probably know who I'm talking about), or a variation of it, whenever I criticized their unhinged "criticism", if you want to give me a tip, then let me give you one in return, because you could really use it whenever something happens you've run out of things to say about, or someone makes the slightest of slights against your precious Sonic Forces:
TAKE YOUR OWN DAMN ADVICE!

All I have left to do on Tumblr
Messing with the limited and ego-driven, joy-drained, spiteful, inflexible Sonic fandom presence it has.
This goes out to all of you:
uWu Silver's a valid part of his characterization, no matter how much you hate it, and he's more faceted for it.
Sonic '06 and Sonic Forces are both bad, and both have a dull, unremarkable Eggman. Hate seeing your precious Forces being picked on by somebody you don't know? Walk past it for once!
Mephiles is funnier than Infinite.
Baldy McNosehair is a stupid, 1st-grade nickname, and that's okay.
Sonic Generations has no story, and that's also okay.
He may not always show it, but Ian Flynn IS a talented writer through the cracks (and tacked-on references).
Trip trips, and that's obviously okay.
Eggman isn't an all-thinking god who should be able to pull over 8,000 rug pulls in one game, comic or television show. He's a genuine supergenius who has his potential inhibited a bit by his insanity and showmanship. That's what his best written game portrayals display.
Neo Metal Sonic is a work of robotics art (let him be in Movie 4)!
Some IDW comic arcs, namely Tangle & Whisper and Scrapnik Island, are more enjoyable than Movie 1.
Starline was never meant to be Eggman's sycophant right-hand man forever, and that makes sense because he is a scientist who works in his own separate, crazy world from his former idol's machinations and needed to come into his own (by making weaponized animal people instead of mass-produced robots and mecha).
Surge the Tenrec is princess. With so many cute gals, somebody statistically needs to bring a little savagery to the character mix.
I hate "pissing on the moon", but I like the voice that said it.
Knuckles does love to punch first.
Abraham Tower is a fine name.
Eggman being a dad is a bizarre, unfitting idea, but he and Sage add a bit of Simpsons-like sitcom flare to his life between world domination attempts, waiting to be exploited.
PINGAS!

Good-bye, Fumblrs!
Not going to beat around the bush or prolong things with some big speech, I'm just going to say it and keep things as simple.
I'm retiring from Tumblr and leaving it after years of posts. 1,200 (and some I've deleted).
First, concerning Sonic (again), I remember when I first came to this place and discovered some fellow fans, I had found a place where I could escape the side of the fandom that treated the whole franchise like some life-or-death struggle to save something and kept going on and on about it in posts akin to book reports, long past the point things had devolved into masochistic submission to a relationship they knew was abusive. That was when Ken Pontac and Warren Graff were still the writers. Ever since Flynn became the head writer, discourse around here has degenerated into the very thing I wished to leave behind in some other cesspool. Thank you all for showing me nothing has changed, and isn't going to.
Second, I don't feel like I'm really getting much use out of this platform these days. At this point, it's just a place to moan about Sonic dialogue I'd change and awkwardly bring up my attempts at artwork or some trivia junk. The artwork, especially, is a thing I'd be better off showing somewhere else.
Third, the dashboard's practically a dead zone, and there are hardly any users out there that I'm genuinely interested in.
So, I have little left to lose on Tumblr, and nowhere else to go but out. You can find me on Bluesky.
I'll keep this account open only for the sake of archiving stuff.
To The Four Horsemen of Making the Modern Sonic Criticism Scene an Overly Long Joke:
@randomthefox (They just blocked me after a reblog I just did. Point proven.)
@crusherthedoctor
@aquillis-main
@darklightheart
Get lives. And I hope you're knocked down a hundred pegs someday. You're the real egotists.
Farewell, and good riddance! Sonic Nomads will not be here!
