people who write their fics directly onto archive of our own site do not fear death by the way
in all seriousness, please always keep backups of your works, write them somewhere else (google doc is a good choice) then copy and paste onto ao3 when you're done, because ao3 itself does not automatically save your works for you, meaning you can lose all of your progress

wishing I could freeze time so fanfic writers could write all of their slow-burn enemies to lovers and gay porn and fix-it fics and all of their WIPs and prompts without having to worry about life and other responsibilities

Something I Always Forget
If a name ends in "s", you still put " 's" at the end!
For instance:
C.S. Lewis's book, the Chronicles of Narnia

C.S. Lewis's writing guide is one to be taken with not just one but MANY grains of salt.
He's a significantly older author than Stephen King, though I'm not sure if that's what makes him quite so pompous.
There is still good practical advice, but I would caution you before reading to know that C.S. Lewis can come off as very arrogant in this book. (A pompous twat, if you will.)
There is no significant religious commentary, even though C.S. Lewis is the author of The Chronicles of Narnia.
While it isn't necessarily terrible, there are certainly better writing guides to read.

It is my humble opinion that every writer should have read this book at least once.
Even if you are not a horror author (I am not) Stephen King has much practical advice for both writing and editing. This is not just the tale of his own writing journey but a toolbox crucial for a writer of any genre.
Of course, don't take his words as gospel, but this book is full of fascinating nuggets of wisdom for writers.
There are many pompous writing books out there. This is not one of them. This is among my top three how-to books on writing of all time.
If you are a writer, you should most definitely read this book.
