Text
When we are apart,
My heart is stone;
Slow to beat, and slower
To feel.
When I see you,
My heart is molten;
Burning me up, and dripping
Down my ribs.
When you hug me,
My heart is glass;
Quick to cut, and quicker
To shatter.
When you smile at me,
My heart is helium;
Trying to escape and to
Show you everything.

I said I walked
Into love with you.
Don't get me wrong, love,
That is true.
But if you always
Have your head down,
If you watch your steps
And not what's around,
You'll see each step you take.
But you might not see
Where your steps take you.

I'm blind without my glasses,
And it seems you're blind with yours.
How else can you miss all these clues,
When they're marching four-by-four?

Love is such an easy thing
To say when it's in ink.
But saying it out loud,
I just know I'd overthink.

I made a deal with the devil, my love,
But I didn't take away your say.
No, the thing I sold my soul for, my love,
Was seeing you every day.

I sit here at this small, wooden desk,
And think of what to say.
But you always leave me speechless,
Even if I saw you just earlier today.

Your tears are not made of water,
They're diamonds, sharp enough to cut.
They slash my heart to ribbons,
And out of my eyes leaks blood.

How do I love you?
Let me count the ways...
Oh, darling. You of all people should know,
Infinity's not something you count.
After all, it shines bright in your eyes,
A mountain with no mount.

I'll make you a deal, my love.
I'll make a deal 'bout when I'll say.
I'll tell you that it's you
On your sixteenth birthday.

You are an artwork, darling,
A sculpture encased in glass.
More perfect than anything I could create,
And definitely strong enough to last.
You are an artwork, darling,
So beautifully and carefully made.
I want to free you, and smash your casing,
But dare not, lest I cause you pain.
You are an artwork, darling.
The most exquisite carving.

Your eyes, they look like fire, my love,
A fire too hot to touch.
But I take no note of the warnings, my love,
And laugh as I go up like a match.

I churn these out, day after day,
Put my heart in my hand, my love.
At some point, I'll have no more to say,
And I'll leave my heart in the mud.

I wrap my arm around your waist,
You put your head on mine.
If I'm to move, should I make haste,
Or follow the path pre-divined?

I hold you close, and breathe you in,
It doesn't mean anything, right?
It's just two friends - one gay, one not -
Just gals being pals tonight.

Shall I compare you to Aphrodite?
You were not born of seafoam, nor of clouds,
But darling, you were made of sand and sea;
You've royal blood, to make you stand so proud.

How do I love you? Let me count the ways.
I love you as the Sun does love the Moon;
Dying each night, and rising 'gain each day,
Just to hear her wonderful dream-song croon.
How do I love you? Let me count the ways.
I love you as a great mind loves to think;
The cogs and wheels turning day after day,
And sometimes even being put down in ink.
How do I love you? Let me count the ways.
I love you as a miser loves his gold;
Parting with it only on his death-day,
And giving it ev'ry piece of his soul.
How do I love you? Let me count the ways...
I love you more with every passing day.
