Uhm, this is a tough one because I'm not sure which specific fact is my favorite, but if I had to pick, I guess it's a fact that unlike most European countries at the time, Russia didn’t criminalize homosexuality before Peter the Great’s westernization reforms. There are a few 16th-century diaries from English ambassadors to Russia where they complain about how widespread homosexuality was in Russia and how sinful they found it. Many historical sources also suggest that Ivan IV (Ivan the Terrible) was possibly bisexual or homosexual and had at least a few male lovers, who may have been the 'femboys' of their time. Philip II, the Metropolitan of Moscow, gave angry sermons against the 'effeminate' young male favorites of the tsar’s court, who shaved their beards and wore cosmetics—essentially, the equivalent of femboys.
