So quit erasing asexuality for your dumb fucking headcanons.

You know, I was actually considering coming back to Tumblr before I saw this idiotic fucking ask. So now I'm going to answer it, and then I'm going to uninstall this app again, because I'm sick of people feeling bold enough to make assumptions about me and insult my intelligence from the other side of a screen.

First off, I'm fucking asexual. Aroace-spec even. Not that I need to be asexual to utilise an ounce of common fucking sense. Asexuality is not incompatible with gayness, and if you insist it must be you are either so absurdly misinformed you have no right to act as an authority on this matter, or you're deliberately trolling. I was very clearly using the word "gay" to mean "homoromantic" (i.e. romantically attracted to the same gender) as anyone with two brain cells to rub together and a teaspoon of good faith could have figured out.

Seeing as Connor is canonically alloromantic, this isn't erasure of any kind. His romantic preferences are as of yet unstated, and queer fans of Connor Hawke have been clamoring for him to be gay for thirty goddamn years. If expressing the desire for him to be confirmed as romantically attracted to men is "asexual erasure" to you, then I don't know what to fucking tell you. Next time keep your bad faith assumptions and stunted critical thinking skills to yourself. Fucking hell.

my first thought was "boy do i ever!" and then my second thought was "wait, do i?" because i rotate them in my head All The Time but i've never really articulated those thoughts in the form of distinct headcanons. so this was a fun exercise!!

on the whole, it's key to me that Connor & Kyle are Best Friends before anything else. like that is the core of their dynamic imo. from their very first meeting they've trusted each other implicitly & i don't think either of them could explain why if asked. they just Clicked.

so peak connorkyle for me starts with this liminal stage where they both consider each other their Best Friend and they're sort of zealously territorial about their role in each other's lives, and Kyle considers Connor the Exception to many macho rules & rituals. like, sharing a bed at a hotel isn't weird at all if it's Connor—in fact it's so Unweird it loops right back around to Super Weird. so i think realizing they have romantic feelings for one another would spook them a little at first, and they wouldn't really know how to proceed. but soon enough they'd realize that being together romantically doesn't have to be all that different from how they are now, hero team-ups + friendly ribbing & all.

that's the broader vibe i get from them, and i've also compiled some more specific headcanons below 🙂‍↕️👇

➵ early in their friendship, they would go months without talking because Connor figured Kyle was busy with more important things, & Kyle figured if Connor wanted to hang out he'd say so. eventually Kyle figures out he can just drop in whenever & Connor will usually be happy to fight crime together then host him for night. even so, the rare occasions where Connor does call first make Kyle a little giddy.

➵ Kyle likes to join Connor on his errands – just to hang out, mind you, not to make himself useful. often he'll tag along to the grocery store and make a game out of sneaking things into the cart without being noticed. Connor almost always catches him — subtlety isn't Kyle's strong suit — but sometimes he pretends not to notice just because Kyle's triumphant little fist pump is so endearing.

➵ they're close enough in height and build that they can share clothes; Kyle particularly likes to swipe Connor’s jackets and insist he wears them better than Connor. and at first Connor's like "If you wanted to borrow something you could have just asked? I wouldn't have said no." but eventually he realizes that Kyle is thieving for the love of the game.

➵ even before they get together, Connor tends to hitch a ride on Kyle's personal transport construct, even when it would make more sense for Kyle to make Connor one of his own, and especially when it involves clinging tight to Kyle's waist. they insist it's just easier this way, but Kyle rarely extends the same privilege to anybody else.

➵ Connor finds the green glow of Kyle's constructs deeply soothing. whenever Connor is in out of his depth and he's starting to feel his mortality, it's like the arrival of that green glow flips a switch in his brain—and even though the threat hasn't yet passed, he's like, oh. Kyle's here. I'm safe now. just this bone-deep certainty that washes away the fear & emboldens him to fight twice as hard. it's so deeply-engrained that he owns a green night-light for the hard nights—the glow helps keep nightmares at bay.
