APOLOGIES TO THE QUEEN MARY is a decade old!

Happy Birthday old friend! In the indie boom of the mid 00′s, Wolf Parade’s debut stood out as a beautifully crazed and maniacally adventurous funhouse that revealed new layers with each new listen. The tracks shifted gears at the drop of a hat - zigging when you expected a zag, breaking your heart when you anticipated a fist fight. Always staying immediately infectious and yet still two steps ahead. From the crashing opening beat of “You Are the Runner and I am My Father’s Son” to the deliriously upbeat synths of “Grounds for Divorce” and onto the controlled chaos of Spencer Krug’s yelps on “Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts”, the album builds and destroys and plants and burns and soars and crashes, but never in a way that is anything less than magnificent. On Wolf Parade’s debut (and their masterpiece), the highs are majestically out of this world and the lows are non-existant and it’s all perfect. It still stands up as a mighty beacon of the promise of a wild new world that never quite materialized, but can still be heard in the echoes of decade old beauty from some brilliantly gifted Canadians.
