This is without question my favorite photo I’ve ever taken. The other day I shared why Multnomah is so special to me and this photo feels, to me, like the sort of photos that I’d see on IG back when the app was new. The PNW Instagrammers perfected those moody, cloudy, foggy, rainy, grey day shots and made the rest of us dream of running into the wilds of the Pacific Northwest with classic American made boots on our feet, @woolrich socks, @filson1897 shirts, and of course a @pendletonwm blanket spilling out of a @bradleymountain backpack, and a @loyalstricklin leather mug in hand for good measure. I spent years begging Paige to teach me to shoot like those folks shot, to me they were legends and greats, and the coolest of cool back then, now I just call them friends. But to have shot this shot, in a way that felt effortless is crazy to me. In that moment I was so confident with all my settings, my framing, my everything that it just felt so natural. When I look at this image I think of all the hours of forcing my friends to teach me how to adjust my camera, how to properly plan a road trip, and how to really really step into a moment and savor it while still documenting it. I could ramble on and on, but as I was mailing a print of this photo yesterday I just kept looking at the stack of them on my table in awe that I took that. #folk #liveauthentic #livefolk #pnw #multnomah #oregon #columbiariver #instagrammer #vsco #exploremore. Garibaldi, Or - The EMD FT is a 1,350-horsepower (1,010 kW) diesel-electric #locomotive that was produced between March 1939 and November 1945, by #GeneralMotors Electro-Motive Corporation (#EMC), later known as GM Electro-Motive Division (#EMD). The "F" stood for Fourteen Hundred (1400) horsepower (rounded from 1350) and the "T" for Twin, as it came standard in a two-unit set. The design was developed from the TA model built for the C,RI&P in 1937, and was similar in cylinder count, axle count, length and layout. All told 555 cab-equipped ”A” units were built, along with 541 cabless booster or ”B” units, for a grand total of 1,096 units. The locomotives were all sold to customers in the #UnitedStates. The #GreatNorthernRailway. Running from Saint Paul, Minnesota, to #Seattle, #Washington, it was the creation of 19th-century #railroad entrepreneur James J. Hill and was developed from the Saint Paul & Pacific Railroad. The Great Northern's route was the northernmost #transcontinental railroad route in the U.S. In 1931, the GN also developed the "Inside Gateway", a route to California that rivaled the Southern Pacific Railroad's route between #Oregon and #California. The GN route was further inland than the SP route and ran south from the #ColumbiaRiver in Oregon. The GN connected with the Western Pacific at Bieber, California; the Western Pacific connected with the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe in Stockton, California, and together the three railroads (GN, WP, and ATSF) competed with Southern Pacific for traffic between California and the #PacificNorthwest. #train #pnw #oregoncoast #bnw #bnwphotography #bnwmood #bnwsouls #bnwphoto #bnwlife #bnw_greatshots #travel #adventure #explore (at Garibaldi, Oregon) https://www.instagram.com/p/Ceqz5loLfw4/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Near Celio Park, Oregon
An eastbound train is seen from the north side of the Columbia River. The train is on the OR&N/Union Pacific line in Oregon.
The other rail line visible here is the SP&S line that crossed over from Wishram and will head down the valley visible in the middle of the image: this was called the Oregon Trunk Railway, and runs along the Deschutes River down to Bend. The major highway one sees in the foreground is I-84.
