Jude's outfit for this chapter↑

Jude’s makeup↑

Jude’s pin which they wear on their flannel
CHAPTER 1
Jude was glad that the gym teacher had given them his keys to take to the office that one day in seventh grade. They had taken the key to the outside door of the girls locker room, the one that led just to the picnic tables, and pocketed it so they could get in whenever they needed. It was quite helpful so they could change before classes. It was a cloudy August day, school had only started a week prior and Jude was already making themselves back at home. They had already shoved all of their belongings into both of their lockers.
They admired themselves in the mirror and adjusted their shirt as they picked up their brush. They had already done their makeup and they didn't brush their teeth in the morning, because they didn't want to eat after they ate, but they never knew when they would eat in the morning. They were currently in the middle of scarfing down an Egg, sausage, and cheese wrap from Dunkin Donuts and some orange juice.
Every time they heard a noise they would pause, they weren't technically supposed to be in the locker room so early. It was only 7:15, the school didn't open their doors until 7:45 and classes didn't start until 8:10.
Eighth grade wasn't so bad so far, they liked their homeroom so far, besides some mild homophobia and comments from the Preppy girls wasn't so bad yet, of course they expected it to get worse at some point, once the Preppy girls finished testing the waters and pretending they were perfect angels, then the real horror would begin. Josie and her squad were the same reason Jude had been called to the counselor’s office for depression and suicidal ideation nine times last year. The counselor had pressed but Jude hadn't let anything slip, they weren't dumb, they knew anything would get a call home, but there was no home to call back to. But if there was no home to call back to them CPS was next and then the system because they had no real family. They had heard horror stories from other homeless people about the system and they would do anything to stay out. So they had never told the counselor anything and just took the verbal abuse, they still had faded scars but had been luckily self harm free since June.
They tied their hair into two short braids with hair ties that someone had dropped on the floor, was it hygienic? Hell no. Could Jude afford to care? Also no. So they just let it slide and their hair up.
They picked up their sandwich as they closed and locked the locker and mixed up the combo so no one could open it. Josie often tried to open their locker, so they always kept the codes hidden and the combos mixed if they weren't open.
They continued to scarf down their breakfast, this was their favorite breakfast option, and it was cheap. On Fridays, if they had enough money they would treat themselves to an iced coffee.
They put their headphones around their neck and grabbed their phone off the charger, it was at a hundred, enough to last the whole day. They grabbed their headphones and pulled those over their head, settling them on their ears. Most of the time it kept Josie from talking to her.
They began blasting Heart Shaped Box by Nirvana and left the locker room with their satchel and made sure to lock the door behind them. Cars were already lined up dropping off their kids, anywhere from sixth graders to Eighth graders, consisting of 300 students in total, 150 of them were sixth graders leaving only 150 seventh and eighth graders. Jude kind of pitied any of the sixth grade teachers, mostly because they were stuck up little brats who screamed ‘Gyatt’ and ‘Rizzler’ and ‘Ohio’ all day. Most of the eighth and seventh graders were just there to survive and didn't care about slang. Jude plopped themselves down on the front steps of the school. People were mostly crowded at the bottom of the stairs talking with their friends, Josie and her squad were blabbering about Stanley's and drunk elephant.
Jude continued blasting Nirvana, Silver started blaring in their ears as they scrolled Pinterest, everyone started whispering and gawking and Jude looked up not expecting much. Instead they spotted a limo, very expensive looking and giant. Jude had seen the type at the Casinos that they frequented, they'd have to see if they could wiggle their way into friendship with this kid.
Out stepped a boy, their age in a white polo shirt and a pair of blue jeans, oh his family was definitely fucking rich.
He stepped through the crowd of students staring at him and passed Jude. They met eyes and shared the exact same Olive eyes. In fact they both looked quite similar to each other, Brown hair, slightly tanned (Although that would fade) tall and thin. Jude chucked to themselves, as he stopped for a second to look at them and then continued.
“Why'd he look at her?” Josie whispered to her friends while Jude was searching for a new song.
Jude was fine with people using She/her pronouns on them, but from Josie it always sounded like a rude insult.
Jude shot her a sideways glance as Josie’s friends were shrugging.
Jude settled on Even flow by Pearl Jam and went back to waiting for everyone to be let inside.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After nearly being trampled to death by rabid sixth graders Jude entered the building to immediately be stopped by their English Teacher, Mr.Tyler.
“Can't wait to take my phone and headphones until 8:15?” They joked, but he barely cracked a smile.
Mr.Tyler did take Jude's headphones a lot in seventh seventh grade, but after figuring out they were sensitive to noise and let them keep them most of the time, it was still a joke for Jude.
“Mr.Cowell wants to see you,” He said.
The color immediately drained from Jude's face. What the hell? Mr.Cowell never asked for them! What had they done that they couldn’t even remember?
They stepped toward the office as Mr.Tyler went past them to go to his classroom. Jude had been in Mr.Cowell’s office before, meeting with him with the counselor present trying to get them to budge. Mr.Cowell wasn't a scary man himself, a hearty man who could talk for hours, it was his title that scared them. He was the principal, he had the power to do basically anything in the school.
“You can come in Jude,” Mr.Cowell said after they knocked, after standing outside his room for nearly a minute.
They entered, they spotted Mr.Cowell immediately, a fat older man with a mustache that made him look like he was sheriff in one of those old cowboy movies but it looked nice on him. Sitting across from him was the kid in the polo and jeans.
“Jude, Meet Neo Olden,” Mr.Cowell said.
Jude nodded and the boy, he didn't look terrible, and this was a chance to be friends with a rich kid.
“He'll be your class buddy,” Jude’s face dropped.
Everyone had at least one or two class buddies who they shared every class with and sat next to in every class, but since Jude had no friends they had been spared because they hadn't put anyone on the little slip of paper they'd been given to right who they wanted on.
“Wonderful,” Jude said, they couldn't fuck this up.
“His locker has already been arranged next to yours,” Mr.Cowell said, “You two can go,”
Jude led Neo to the lockers near their homeroom.
“Your code should be on the little slip of paper next to the lunch code,” Jude said and twisted their lock to open their locker. They made sure to cover their locker as they placed their bag inside. Inside they kept their mask and most of their few belongings besides clothes and toiletries, but they didn't need a nosy teacher spotting all their things and calling the counselor again.
“Oh thanks,” Neo twisted his own lock and tried to pull it open.
“Here let me,” Jude said and politely shoved Neo out of the way so they could knee his locker.
The locker flung open, a couple of spiders running out and Jude went back to their own locker.
“Thanks,” Neon placed his things inside, “So what classes do we have first?”
“Well it's Monday, so we have German first and then English, and then right before lunch we have homeroom,” Jude answered, grabbing their German notebook and their personal book, Fourth Wing, which they had picked up at a book sale over the summer, and just hadn't gotten around reading yet.
Neo was grabbing his notebook, labeled German.
“You can unpack later, just grab what you need for now,” Jude said, grabbing their pencil case; it only contained a few pens and necessities.
“Okay.”
Jude and Neo walked down the hall.
“We’ll save the tour for later, mostly because I wasn't a good excuse to skip homeroom, I fucking hate Mrs.Richards, she's old and annoying!” Jude said and readjusted their flannel before entering the German classroom.
Jude led Neo to the very back of the classroom to the corner, the two best seats in the room where the teacher often forgot to look to call on students. Jude wasn't bad at German, in fact her ‘parents’ had spoken it fluently so Jude knew it quite well but they were just taking it for an easy A because it was easier than learning a new language. No, Jude just didn't like being called on in class, that applied to every class.
“So When's your birthday?” Neo asked.
“I'll turn 15 in a couple of weeks, September 15,” Jude answered, scrolling on their phone.
“Same! We have the same birthday!”
“Nice, I'll finally have a birthday buddy in my grade and not a snotty sixth grader,” Jude chuckled.
“So, why are you at this school?” Jude asked bluntly and Neo looked at them surprised before they continued, still looking at their phone, “Your clearly rich and well off, I mean your family brought you here in a fucking Limo, Not Like the rest of us, sure we have some well off kids here but not that well of, so what does your family do?”
“Okay the limo was my mom's idea! We don't just go around flaunting our wealth!” Neo defended.
“Not what I asked,” Jude responded, finally putting their phone down on their desk.
“We own a bunch of businesses in America, we moved because my mom's opening up a casino,” Neo answered.
Jude wanted to ask more questions but the bell rang before they could, putting an end to their conversation.
Child of Ares (PT.3)
Warning: the following content involves mentions of child abuse, physical and emotional, Neglect, and malnutrition, if you are sensitive to these topics proceed with caution or do not proceed.
Aphrodite and Ares walked out of the hospital. Ainsley laying under her blanket in her new stroller with her little goat.
Ares couldn't help but admire how cute she looked sleeping, probably for the first time in a while judging on how tired she had looked in the hospital.
“Alright Aphrodite what did you do?” Ares asked, he knew there was no way that the social worker had just help Aphrodite with the discharge papers, he wasn't dumb he knew his wife.
“I don't know what you're talking about Ares,” She smiled as they crossed the street.
Neither of them wanted to teleport back to Olympus with a sleeping toddler. It was a terrible experience the first time and neither of them wanted to deal with that.
“Aphrodite, don't test your luck, we both know you did something…”
“Ares! It was just a little persuasion, besides she was the one who tried to insist that Ainsley wasn't full, we both already know that Ainsley's clearly small, the boys were bigger at her age then she is, but insisting that we force her to eat more, that would be traumatic too! As a social worker she should know that that little-”
“There's a child present!” Ares reminded her and they both peeled over to make sure that Ainsley was still asleep in her stroller.
They sat down at a bench, with the stroller right by them.
“What does a ‘little persuasion’ mean?”
“I just encouraged her to talk to the doctor and say that we would bring her to all her doctor's appointments, blah… blah… all that other mortal stuff.”
“Aphrodite! You can't do that!” Ares said, “What if she had to stay in the hospital?”
“We both knew that she was good to leave and they were just planning on keeping her there, she was scared and wasn't sure of what was happening!”
Ares sighed as Aphrodite gave him her doe eyes, he knew she was right. But he didn't want to admit it.
“Fine, I'll let it slide for now, but don't do this again!” He tried to sound stern but it slipped, Aphrodite was his girl and he couldn't deny this.
Aphrodite smiled sweetly and they settled into a nice conversation.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ainsley slept quietly for an hour until she stirred awake. Aphrodite and new daddy were sitting on a bench nearby.
“Well hello honey did you sleep well?” Aphrodite asked.
Ainsley rubbed her eyes and looked at them.
“Yeah,” She said quietly.
She looked around, they were in a playground, with children her age running around with their parents watching from benches.
“Do you want to go play?” Aphrodite asked.
Ainsley shook her head, she had never played at a playground and wasn’t even sure where to begin, but she was interested in the swings. She had used to beg her mommy to let her go on the swings when they were walking through the park but mommy had never let her.
“Ainsley honey?” Aphrodite leaned down in front of her, “Have you ever played on the playground?”
Ainsley shook her head.
Aphrodite smiled, “Well let’s fix that and let's go play!”
“Really?” Ainsley asked, her eyes sparkling with hope.
“Yes, what do you want to play on?”
“The swings!” Ainsley said and pointed at the swings, which were empty cause almost everyone wanted to play on the big slide.
“Alright, let's go play on the swings!” Aphrodite unbuckled Ainsley from her stroller and Ainsley grabbed Daisy.
“Are you sure you want to bring Daisy?” Her new daddy asked.
“Why wouldn’t I?” Ainsley asked, hugging Daisy.
“Well he might fly out or get dirty,” Aphrodite said, “Do you want to leave him with Daddy?”
Ainsley looked at her new daddy, she didn’t really want to leave Daisy, Daisy was her best friend.
“Nuh-uh!” Ainsley shook her head, she didn’t want to leave Daisy.
“Please honey, we just don’t want him to get dirty, that would be worse,” Aphrodite tried to explain, although the it was difficult to reason with a three year old.
“Ainsley honey, why don’t you leave Daisy with me, and then he can tell you what I'm like.”
Ainsley looked at the goat and placed Daisy on her daddy's lap.
“Good job, now let's go play on the swings!” Aphrodite said.
Ainsley ran over, she was so excited to finally get to play on the swings. Aphrodite lifted her up onto the swings.
Ainsley kicked her legs excitedly as Aphrodite began to push her high onto the swing.
Ainsley had so much fun looking over the park as Aphrodite pushed the swing. This was the best day of her life! She loved the swings!
After that she let Aphrodite lead her over to play on the monkey bars which were fun, but swings were still funner.
Ares watched the two, and he smiled watching how much fun Ainsley was having. It hurt him to know that Ainsley had probably never had fun like this.
Eventually Ainsley ran over to Ares but not to hug him, instead to grab Daisy. It made his heart ache but she probably just wasn't used to him yet.
“Are you ready to go home baby?” Aphrodite asked.
“Where is home?” Ainsley asked as Aphrodite picked her up.
“Don't worry honey.”
The entire world began to spin and Ainsley gripped Aphrodite's dress. She didn't like how it felt and began to cry. Eventually the spinning stopped and she felt Aphrodite parting her back.
“It's okay honey, it's okay, it's stopped, I know it feels funny.”
Eventually Ainsley stopped crying.
“Ainsley,” Her father said, “Welcome to Olympus, your new home.”

Child of Ares (PT.2)
Warning: Mentions of child abuse, physical and emotional, neglect, malnutrition, anyone who is sensitive to these subject please proceed with caution or stop reading.
Ainsley promptly broke into tears. She didn’t want to go back to the messy, bug filled home. Plus her new Daddy looked like a scary mean man. He was big, with lots of muscles and drawings on his arms which she didn't know what those were called, he was bigger than Sir, which meant he could hit her harder then sir ever had. The woman next to him looked very pretty though, she was a thin woman, with very long curly brown hair and big brown eyes that held the sort of innocence that Ainsley’s blue eyes should hold. She was also wearing a very pretty white dress with yellow flowers that Ainsley had never seen before.
They were both holding white and orange boxes of what was maybe food, there was writing on the side but Ainsley didn't know the alphabet yet so she couldn't read and coffee, which made Ainsley scared, were they going to pour the hot coffee on her?
The woman next to her new daddy quickly rushed over to Ainsley, she set down the coffee and bottle of orange juice she was holding so that she could pick up Ainsley instead. Ainsley tensed her entire little body, waiting for the drop onto the cold hard floor. Whenever Mommy had picked her up it had just been to drop her onto her back and then to kick her, Instead the woman began bouncing Ainsley, very gently up and down against her chest, while whispering nice words into Ainsley's ear.
“Shh, shh, it’s okay honey, it’s all gonna be alright,” She said as she bounced Ainsley up and down.
Ainsley wrapped her little arms around the nice lady’s neck as her new daddy approached.
“Can I lay you back on your bed honey-bun?” The nice lady asked and Ainsley shook her head.
The nickname made Ainsley feel fuzzy, this was the first time she had ever been talked to this nicely by someone. She never wanted to leave the nice lady's arms.
“What’s your name honey?”
“Ainsley,” Ainsley replied as the woman brushed her fingers through Ainsley’s knotted hair. Ainsley’s mommy had never brushed her hair properly.
“That's such a pretty name Ainsley, my name is Aphrodite,” The woman replied.
“That’s a really pretty name! Prettier than mine!” Ainsley said, her voice filled with awe.
Her new Daddy set the white and orange box he was holding down on the bedside table and opened it up to reveal some amazing looking donuts. Ainsley’s mommy had loved to order donuts for her and Sir while they were drinking, and sometimes she would get a tiny piece if she was good enough.
“Do you want your donut Aphrodite?” Her new daddy asked Aphrodite.
“Not right now thank you Ares, do you want a donut Ainsley?” Aphrodite
asked.
“But you haven’t eaten yours yet, Mommy said I have to always eat the scraps that are left, there aren’t any scraps yet.”
Aphrodite frowned and brushed her fingers through Ainsley’s hair again, “Oh no honey, you don’t need to eat scraps, you can have as much food as you want.”
Ainsley looked up at her surprised, “Really?”
She wasn't sure if this was a trick or not and they would hit her or burn her the moment she took a bite. But upon further inspection neither of them had cigarettes with them, so they couldn't burn her.
Aphrodite nodded and set her back down on the bed, even though she didn’t want to leave her arms.
“Yes really, we got you these yummy vanilla covered ones!” Aphrodite grabbed one of two donuts covered with white frosting.
Ainsley’s stomach rumbled as she looked at the donut, it looked so pretty and so delicious that Ainsley forgot her manners for a second and reached out before pulling back suddenly.
“Is everything all right honey?” Aphrodite asked as she lowered the donut.
“Are you sure I can have it and you won’t get mad?” Ainsley asked, putting her hands on her lap.
“Of course honey.”
Ainsley reached for the donut and Aphrodite handed it to her. Ainsley held it up to her mouth and took a bite. It tasted so sweet and fluffy and doughy! It was the best thing she had ever eaten. The only time she had eaten donut scraps before they had been stale and cold, but this one was warm and fluffy.
“Mhmm!” Ainsley said and took another bite of the donut.
“Do you like it honey?”
“It's so warm and fluffy!” Ainsley beamed as she ate.
Aphrodite chucked and Ainsley's new daddy handed Aphrodite a fully white donut and he took one out covered in chocolate that looked like Ainsley’s donut.
They all ate in silence and Aphrodite offered the orange juice to Ainsley.
After finishing her first donut Ainsley was full.
“Do you want your other one Ainsley?” Aphrodite asked.
“No ma'am, I'm full,” Ainsley answered, grabbing Daisy and clutching him to her chest.
The other lady in the jeans and a sweater, who Ainsley learned was called a Social worker, which she didn't know what that meant but she explained that it meant she was going to help Ainsley settle with new mommy and Daddy, spoke up.
“If you hadn't noticed, Ainsley is very small, and underweight for her age and you'll have to visit a nutritionist and I suggest that you feel her as much as possible to help her gain more weight so I think she will take that other donut,” The women said, speaking only to Aphrodite and new daddy.
“But I'm full, I don't want to-”
“The adults are speaking Ainsley!” The women almost yelled.
Ainsley began to cry, scared of the social workers yelling, she sounded just like Mommy.
“Oh no, no, honey,” Aphrodite picked her up and bounced her again, up and down soothingly until she stopped crying.
Her new daddy was glaring at the social worker, he looked ready to yell at the social worker, but was holding back.
Ainsley was clutching Aphrodite and Daisy both at the same time, which was a little difficult for her little arms.
“Excuse me Ms.James, I think you've helped enough and do all you need to do, can you please leave us?” Aphrodite asked and she continued to bounce Ainsley.
“Excuse me Ms.Olympia-”
“My wife said leave!” Ainsley's new daddy snapped quite loudly, causing Ainsley to bury her face in Aphrodite's shoulder.
“Ares Honey,” Aphrodite said, placing her hand on his shoulder, “Could you please take Ainsley for a moment while I speak with Ms.James?”
Aphrodite handed Ainsley to her new daddy. Ainsley tried to reach for Aphrodite, she was still scared of the big man who was supposed to be her new daddy. Aphrodite walked away as Ainsley whimpered and made grabby hands for her, but she dragged Ms.James away and closed the door.
Ainsley was left alone with her new daddy and she was scared. Daisy had slipped from her grasp onto the floor he was now just laying there. The only good thing about new daddy's lap was that it was big and warm so she had room to curl up.
“Do you want your plushie?” New daddy asked gruffly and Ainsley nodded.
He put an arm around Ainsley and leaned down to pick up Daisy. She gripped his arm and he grabbed Daisy.
“What's its name?” Ares asked as he handed the goat back to her.
“Daisy,” Ainsley mumbled as she hugged Daisy.
Daisy was her only toy and friend. He had always been with her and he would never leave.
“She's very cute,” Ares replied.
“He,” Ainsley mumbled and Ares looked down at her curiously, “Daisy is a boy.”
“Oh that's nice,” New daddy said.
“Am I going to have to stay in the hospital forever?” Ainsley asked.
It occurred to Ares how little she understood about this entire situation. She was only three, she didn't even know the entire alphabet yet.
“No baby, you're gonna get to leave sometime today probably, but after that Aphrodite and I are gonna have to take you to a couple of other doctors, like a nutritionist and a pediatrician and a Child psychologist,” Ares answered.
“What are those?”
Ares blanked of course she didn't know what those were.
“They're just special types of doctors that are gonna make you feel better.”
“Did someone color on you with crayons?” Ainsley asked as she looked at the drawings on her new daddy's arms.
“Why would you think-” Ares looked at his arms and realized she was talking about his tattoos, “Uh.. kind of.”
“Why?”
“Well all of these drawings are special to me, I'll show you later okay baby.”
After a couple more minutes Aphrodite came back into the room with a stroller.
“Alright, are you two ready to go?”
“You already got discharge papers?” Ares asked.
“Oh yes, Ms.James was happy to help me get the papers and supply us with this wonderful stroller.”
They had a conversation in a language the Ainsley didn't understand and Ares gave Aphrodite a tired look.
“Come on sweetie, let's get you in the stroller and we'll head out.”
Aphrodite picked up Ainsley and put her in the stroller, sliding Daisy next to her.
Ainsley didn't have much time to think because as a blanket was placed on top of her, she fell into a much needed sleep.

Child of Ares (PT. 1)
Trigger warning: Mentions of Child abuse, physical and emotional, neglect, and malnutrition, if you're sensitive to any of these topics then please proceed with caution or stop reading.
It was five a.m on Olympus, Ares and Aphrodite were still asleep in their quarters. Even Phobos and Deimos were still asleep, they wouldn't be up for another hour and a half to get ready for school. Aphrodite was laying on Ares’s bare chest and Ares’s arms were around his wife and he was snoring quietly.
Until the phone rang loudly. Ares always had his phone on loud, or else he wouldn't hear it while training or such as his hearing was terrible most of the time. Ares’s ringtone rang out, startling Aphrodite and Ares awake.
Ares reached for his phone and Aphrodite laid on his chest again hugging him tightly. Ares didn't recognize the number, which was odd. The only people who would call him this early were Eris or Zeus.
“Who is it?” Aphrodite asked.
Ares looked down at her, she looked so cute with her sleep filled brown doe eyes, messy hair and in only her bra and sleep shorts. No jewelry or makeup. It was Aphrodite in her rawest, but most gorgeous form.
“I don't know, I don't recognize the number,” Ares answered as he pressed the answer button.
"Guten Morgen, Ist das Herr Ares?” A man spoke in German and Ares tiredly tried to understand. He understood a little bit of German but not enough to fully string together what that meant.
“I'm sorry sir, I don't understand German.” He yawned and brushed Aphrodite’s hair.
He heard some talking in german in the background and the phone being passed around.
“Hello, is this Mr.Ares?” A chipper voiced woman said, way too happy for this time in the morning.
“Yes ma'am, how can I help you?” Ares asked.
“I'm very sorry to inform you but your ex-girlfriend Emma Idina has passed away in a drunk driving accident, she ran a red light and crashed into a pole,” The woman said.
Ares sat up suddenly, Aphrodite falling off his chest, this was the first time he had heard anything about Emma ever since she had broken off their relationship three, almost four years ago. Aphrodite looked up curiously with her big brown doe eyes.
“I'm very sorry to hear that but can I ask why you're contacting me?” Ares asked, “We've been broken up for three years.”
“Well yes, but we were informed by Ms.Idina’s boyfriend who died in the hospital that she has a daughter, officers were dispatched to tell whoever was home with her but she was home alone and opened the door to police. She was moved to the child's hospital and it was discovered she was severely malnourished and had bruises and cuts and burns all over her. A DNA test was taken and it was learned she is your daughter.”
Ares sat there unable to process the amount of information thrown at him. He had a daughter?!
“What is it?” Aphrodite asked but he ignored her.
“She was home alone?” Ares asked.
“Yes sir, the police entered the home and found it messy, infested with bugs and trash. There were broken glass bottles and used needles,” The woman paused, “We were hoping you could come and get custody of her-”
“Which Hospital?” He asked and Aphrodite tilted her head in the cute way she often did when she was confused.
“St.Anne’s Children’s Hospital in Berlin,” The woman said.
“We'll be there as soon as we can!” Ares said as he hung up.
“Who was that?” Aphrodite asked.
“Some woman in Germany, do you remember that woman, Emma?”
“Yeah?”
“She got pregnant and then we broke up and she just died.”
“Oh my Zeus!” Aphrodite said as Ares ran over to their closet and threw on a black T-shirt and some jeans, it was just some of his clothing that he normally wore for helping Hepheauts in the forge.
He tossed Aphrodite one of her sundresses. A simple white one with sunflowers on it.
“Where are we going?” Aphrodite asked as she threw it over her bra and sleep shorts.
“Germany.” Ares answered.
“Hold on,” Aphrodite grabbed her phone and began typing.
“Who are you texting?” He asked and looked at his gorgeous wife again.
He knew it was bad timing, but oh Zeus she was so freaking adorable. She was smaller then her and even though the sleep had disappeared from her eyes, her eyelashes were still stuck together from sleep. Her curly hair was sticking everywhere, and as she texted her tongue slipped out of her mouth, the way she often did when in thought.
“Hephaestus, so he can get the boys to school on time.”
Aphrodite put her phone in her purse and walked towards him.
“I'm sorry, I kinda assumed you were going with me, you can go back to bed.” Ares said, kissing her forehead.
“I'm coming with you.” Aphrodite said.
Ares smiled as he kissed her forehead again.
They left Olympus hand in hand and arrived in Germany quickly with the use of their powers. They walked down the street before Aphrodite spotted a Dunkin Donuts.
“Here! Let's stop for a second and grab something to eat,” Aphrodite said.
Ares paused and looked up the street, the light of dawn hadn't really hit yet, and he could see the hospital. He wanted to get there as quickly as possible to meet his daughter.
“C’mon, we can grab something for her as well and we need something to eat and drink.” Aphrodite said and Ares sighed, he knew she was right.
“Alright,” He relented and Aphrodite squeaked happily and pulled him inside.
The donut shop was empty besides them and the employees.
“Hi, can I get a box of eight donuts, three powdered sugar, three chocolate frosted, and two vanilla frosted?” The bored looking employee nodded and tapped the screen, “And can I get a medium iced coffee with almond milk, mocha swirl, and sugar please, a medium black coffee, and an orange juice? That will be all.”
The employee nodded, looking slightly happier, Aphrodite's energy rubbing off on her, “That will be £32.49 miss.”
Aphrodite handed her the money and stepped back so they could wait.
“Two vanilla frosted and orange juice?” Ares teased her.
“A sweet little girl deserves a sweet treat,” Aphrodite smiled sweetly.
“I have to tell you that, from what the woman I talked to over the phone said that the poor girl was probably abused and neglected.”
Aphrodite’s face changed and soured, she hated child abusers and he could only be glad that Emma was already in Hades’s realm, for Emma’s sake.
As they were handed their donuts and drinks Aphrodite's face didn't get any happier. They continued walking to the hospital.
“Honey, please… I know you're mad but can we please talk about this later?” Ares asked, shifting the drinks to one hand and grabbing her shoulder.
“What kind of woman would do that to her own child?!” She asked, outraged.
“I know honey, it's terrible but please…”
Aphrodite suddenly looked happier as they entered the hospital and approached the desk.
“Hello, we're here to see…” Ares paused, realizing he had never asked for the girls name.
“Excuse me?” They both turned to see a woman in a cardigan and jeans.
“Are you Ares sir?”
“Yes ma'am,” He replied and shook her hand.
“Alright come with me and we can meet Aisling.”
He saw Aphrodite almost melt at Aisling’s name.
They walked up several flights of stairs and stopped at a door painted with butterflies. Ares almost melted at what he saw.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aisling was scared to be alone at night. She has been home a lot, but night was always scary. Though being home with Mommy and Sir was scarier. They left before dinner to go to the bar, so Aisling was hungry as she laid down on the cold floor with her blankie and Daisy.
Aisling couldn't sleep, scared and cold, and she could hear the bugs and mice scattering around the tiny house. Her body still hurt from the beating Sir had given her.
When it was still dark there was a knock on the door. Aisling jumped, and froze as the knocking continued. Mommy had told her not to open the door when they weren't home, but maybe Mommy and Sir had locked themselves out again, they would be even madder if she didn't open the door. She grabbed Daisy and tip-toed to the door.
She stretched to reach the door handle and unlocked it and opened the door. Two police officers stood at the door.
“Excuse me sweetheart, is there an adult home?” The taller one asked.
“No,” Aisling replied.
“How old are you sweetie?” The officers said, looking around the house and seeing the mess.
“Mommy says I'm not supposed to talk to police officers,” Aisling replied.
The officers shared a look.
“Sweetheart, Your mommy isn't coming home, she got into an accident.”
The officers probably expected her to burst into tears, but Aisling didn't. She barely cared that Mommy was gone. She could only hope Sir was gone with her.
The officers led her outside and checked over her body, finding the bruises, cuts, and cigarette burns on her body and talking into their radios asking for an Ambulance. The officers tried to make small talk with her about Daisy but she was on high alert. Was this a trick Mommy was playing on her? Would she jump out of the shadows and hit her?
An ambulance arrived and she was loaded up onto a stretcher. Ainsley was scared and curled up with Daisy as they stuck her with needles and explained what they were doing. Ainsley was scared, there was so much going on, and there were so many people. One of the Paramedics was nice enough to blow up a glove like a turkey for her and give her a doll. She has never had a doll. It was a pretty doll of a princess that the Paramedic said was called Cinderella. She had pretty blonde hair like Aisling and blue eyes. She was dressed in a blue dress. Aisling thought she looked so pretty that she refused to let Cinderella be taken out of the box, because she didn't want to ruin her.
As they came to a halt they got the stretcher out of the ambulance and brought her into the bright ER of the children's hospital. She was taken up an elevator and into a pretty room and laid in the hospital bed. She was alone for a few minutes and dozed into a light sleep. When she woke up she was being bandaged by a nurse and had been shaken awake by a doctor.
“Hello sweetheart, I'm Doctor Jameson, can I ask you a couple of questions and have you do a couple things for me? I need to make sure your healthy.”
Aisling nodded and held Daisy close to her chest.
“Alright, when was the last time Mommy took you to the doctor?”
“Never.”
“How old are you sweetie, Two?” The doctor asked.
“Three,” Ainsley answered.
The doctor and nurses all looked at her surprised. They couldn't believe that a toddler, this tiny was three, even two they felt quite gracious.
“Okay, can I check your ears and mouth?” The doctor asked, grabbing two tools from the table next to the bed.
Ainsley looked at the tools, she didn't know what they were for.
“How about your little goat goes first, and then you can go okay?” A nurse suggested.
Ainsley nodded and handed the doctor Daisy. The doctor picked up one of his tools and peered into Daisy’s ears and then picked up the other tool and peered into Daisy's mouth.
“There, your little friend's ears and mouth are completely fine! Now your turn okay?” Ainsley nodded and shifted so that the doctor could do the same thing to her that he'd done to Daisy.
“There, your ears and mouth are good too.”
The doctor left and the nurse left a box of apple juice for her. The doctor had told the nurse that Ainsley was malnourished, but she didn't know what that meant.
A few hours later someone came to give her what they called a DNA test and then a woman in Jeans and a cardigan came in to ask her questions about Mommy and Sir. If they had drank and hit her a lot, and a lot of other questions.
Ainsley kept dozing in and out with tiny naps.
Eventually the woman in Jeans came back with a large man and a nice looking lady.
“Ainsley, this is your father.”
Lili Anne x Thomas (pt.1)
Lili Anne's POV
Lili Anne leaned against the train window as the train left the western moor behind. Lili Anne had never left the moor before, and now she was on her way to the city, a place she had only ever dreamed of. She had left the private carriage her husband had booked for her and was now sitting in the dining car holding a menu as her gloves sat next to her. The lace wedding gift from her husband was scratchy and quite annoying to wear, but her mother had insisted she wear it to meet her husband. She glanced over the menu and then into her small purse where a couple of wils* and coins sat. Duke Thomas had sent a letter to Lili Anne's family to invite her to move in with him, as they were now married. The Duke had sent Three hundred wils to be split between Lili Anne and her younger sister had each gotten 150 wils. Lili Anne had about 500 wils saved up from a couple of years of not spending a lot of pocket money.
"Have you made a decision yet Duchess?" A waiter asked coming up to her and disturbing her thoughts.
Lili Anne looked back down at the menu, she had never eaten any of these dishes, these were fancy people dishes.
"Can I please have the Chestnut soup?" Lili Anne asked, she had eaten chestnuts before, chestnut soup couldn't be that different.
"Of course Duchess, any boiled vegetables or meat with that?" He asked.
"Not now thank you."
The man nodded and walked away to put in her order and she took another sip of her water. People kept stealing glances at her and whispering to whoever was at their table. Everyone knew about her marriage to Duke Thomas, her name and face had been all over the newspapers and tabloids for three years, since they'd gotten engaged after Lili Anne's second season. It had stopped last season but had picked back up after Lili Anne had been sent the marriage certificate to sign. Lili Anne would never admit that she had cried herself to sleep that night, the knowledge she wouldn't get a wedding hitting her hard.
Lili Anne had never met Thomas, their fathers had met several times but they had been in the same room once during a ball, during Lili Anne's first season, but they had never danced and Lili Anne had heard from one of her friends that he thought her cream colored dress made her look pale. A comment that had caused her to rip up the dress a few nights before when her mother had the servants began to pack up her belongings.
She didn't need to give Thomas a reason to make fun of her, as news had reached the newspapers of Thomas insulting her to his friends and their wives. She didn't know if these rumors were true but she didn't want to test it.
The waiter returned with her soup and poured more water into her glass before leaving her alone. She laid her napkin of her lap and grabbed her spoon and took a sip. The soup was actually quite good. Her mother had given her lots of lessons on City dining so that she didn't make a complete fool of herself the first time she dined with her husband. She still thought it was odd to call a man she had never met her husband. Her mother had reassured her that Thomas and her would fall in love with each other given time together. Lili Anne doubted it.
"Now pulling into the city," The waiter announced at the front of the car.
Lili Anne grabbed her personal bag, the servants Thomas had sent to help Lili Anne would grab the rest of her bags from the carriage. Her personal bag was just filled with her books and embroidery and sewing supplies.
The train braked suddenly as Lili Anne was standing and almost fell over as she tucked her gloves into her personal bag. Lili Anne stepped off into the cobblestone street of the city. Men and women waited for their loved ones, and young boys and girls sold jewelry and toys for passers-by. Lili Anne had never seen this many people out and about and Lili Anne had to pause for a second before she followed the flow of traffic.
Lili Anne wandered around to find where the carriages were. Thomas had said he would be there to bring her to his house. Lili Anne paused as she looked at the carriages as a dark skinned man approached her.
"Miss Lili Anne?" He asked.
Lili Anne paused for a moment, unable to think because he was so handsome. He had a polite smile on his face and was holding some flowers and chocolates.
"Yes sir, Duke Thomas?" Lili Anne asked, once she was able to speak again.
"Yes Ma'am, may I take your bag?"
Lili Anne nodded and he handed her the flowers and chocolates as he took her bag.
"Thank you sir, are these snow roses and golden drops?" Lili Anne smiled looking her favorite flowers.
"Your father informed me they were your favorites."
Lili Anne felt giddy as she smiled and looked at the flowers.
He held out his handed and helped her into the carriage, and off they were.
