It IS however extremely in character for the Doctor’s toxic ex, the Master, who coincidentally is pretending to “help” the Doctor notice that the world is wrong while actually furthering the Rani’s plot to destroy the earth

they really cast such an amazing actress for the rani and then just killed her off like that? don't get me wrong, i like mrs flood, but archie panjabi was so perfect and she got 2 episodes. not even that. it's so disappointing

modern who: fuuuuck we want to do all of these cool things but we only have 8 45-minute episodes to work with... let's just edit it like a TikTok and remove all the breathing room and character development

classic who: fuuuuck this one has to be six episodes? We already padded it so much to get it to four... fine I guess we can add a subplot where they have to get K-9 neutered

yeah so that finale. yikes.

*immense amounts of doctor who spoilers under the cut*

firstly, they brought back two amazing characters, the rani and omega, and hardly did anything with them. that entire storyline amounted to virtually nothing. omega was on screen for a few seconds and then killed(ish) off. the rani, while having more time, didn’t do much, i felt. she was acted incredibly and her character was portrayed accurately, they just could’ve gone deeper into her as an individual rather than just her in relation to the doctor—if that makes sense. both these characters were a fantastic chance to bring back and elaborate on old villains but they felt like simple nostalgia grabs if anything.

speaking of nostalgia grabs, what was the purpose of susan showing up? she was there once in the season for no reason other than to attempt to get classic fans back into the show. they could’ve actually done something with her, but no. this season really did just feel like a ton of missed opportunities.

the entire poppy storyline shouldn’t have existed. it took up so much time and was so complicated yet ultimately resulted in pretty much nothing. yes, it completed belinda’s story arc but that was a problem in itself. they really took a genuinely amazing companion and finished up her arc with her…being a mother? yeah, weird. that just rubbed me the wrong way, especially since, up until last episode, she really showed no interest in that. and i’m aware that poppy also represented the doctor’s own wishes, but that could’ve been explored in a different way (i.e. susan)

finally, while i love billie piper to death, her coming back was, again, a nostalgia grab. although i am genuinely excited to see her as the doctor (though i’ve always wanted her to play the master) i’m afraid bad writing will ruin her as well.

seriously, while it’s a bit silly to say this considering i wasn’t even alive for the first time this happened, i think we need another wilderness years. we just need a break so everyone can take a step back and reconsider the nonsense that’s going on

also i hate the eight episode per season format.

also also, ‘wokeness’ is not the downfall of doctor who. the doctor could never be a white guy again and i’d be stoked, i would just like good writing, please and thanks
