So I'm in the middle of this cover art competition for Abomination and I am currently in the lead. (Knock on wood) I was invited to compete by the guys that run it after they saw my cover. Now we're six days in, with twenty-four left to go and I just realized.
I don't even know what I'm competing for. I mean I don't know what the award is for winning. (Hahaha sad laugh to myself for realizing how dumb I am...sigh)
I figure it PR for the novel so I'm not dropping out or anything. It's just I didn't check first. Is what has got me so thrownback by my own actions. (Another sigh...)

So today I was reminded that getting your book out there as an unestablished author is quote.
"a marathon, not a sprint"
I instantly took three things from this.
1. "Heard that before." (Roll eyes)
2. "Then why has other books from other self published, unestablished authors sold thousands. In the same time as my dwindling number?" (Angry face) Which is instantly accompanied by all the self deprecating, anxiety fueled, lack of confidence in my self. "Maybe Abomination isn't any good, Maybe all those people were just being nice, MAYBE I SHOULD GIVE UP!" (PULL OUT HAIR! And daydream about crawling into a dark hole and die...)
But then I remember that I am just being crazy...again... (awkward silence...)
And the theres...
3. I remind myself that my work stands for itself. The cover I designed is lovely, and Abomination is a beautiful book, a wonderful beginning to an intriguing story, and completely worth the reading. It will be noticed in time.
Because it's a marathon...not...a...sprint. (another awkward silence follow by a sigh)
So thank you to the person that said that to me today. That shall remain nameless because I don't want to be sued. Bye...

So I'm sitting here trying to think of something meaningful and profound. To make my first written post about and I've drawn a blank. Just decorated and placed presents under the tree with the chitlens. And I have to say it has to be my favorite part of this season. Watching my four year olds eyes light up with each ornament. My 10 year prodding at her presents trying to guess what they are. Even my teenager putting down her phone to lift her baby brother to put the star on with a candy cane hanging from her mouth. All cocoa covered smiles and giggles. Yep it's the best. To me life is is usually meaningful and profound. Ttyl
