“Work Song” by Hozier - Sam

Rain drops chased each other down the window of the car as a bloodied and beaten up Sam shifted to lay his forehead against the cold glass. The exhaustion was catching up to him while the adrenaline noticeably seeped out of his system. It had been a run of the mill hunt with his brother, but for some reason the dreary mood of the environment had affected his own thoughts. He couldn’t help feeling homesick, but he knew it was more than that.

The brothers’ hadn’t really had a place to call home until they found the bunker. But even then, they moved around so much that Sam couldn’t really consider the place as anything more than a base camp. But recently he had been growing more and more attached to a place that seemed like it could be home, a place called you.

The two of you had met during a random drunken night at a bar. It seemed like any other one night stand, but you had cooked him breakfast the next morning and made him forget his demons for a few hours with some horrible puns, and Sam was hooked.

Every time he left you, he wouldn’t return for weeks. And when he did return, he would show up at absurd times of the day, bruised and battered, looking like he hadn’t slept in days. He knew you worried for him, but you just silently treated his wounds and took his aching body into your warm arms. You grieved with him as he cried in the middle of the night, protecting him with your love because there were no words that could be formed.

He hadn’t told you anything about his life, and you hadn’t asked. His world was dark and bloody while yours was bright and sweet. When he was with you, it felt like the darkness of his world didn’t exist, like he could melt into you and pretend that he was just like the others.

Sam didn’t know how long this would last, but he knew you had lit a special fire in his heart that would remain burning for a long while to come.

“Sammy, you hungry? We can stop at the next gas station” Dean broke you out of your reverie. “No, I want go home” was his simple reply.
