There have been a lot of theories about why a teenage Pauline is in Donkey Bananza and where it fits into the (admittedly loose) Mario Timeline. So here’s my theory.

I think Teen Pauline is a descendant of classic/ Odyssey Pauline. If there can be multiple DKs. There can be multiple Paulines. I think this for multiple reasons.

1. There’s little indication that this is a prequel. In fact there’s more evidence of the opposite. Mainstays of the Donkey Kong series like Diddy Kong, Dixie, and Cranky are here with no sign of being younger. Cranky even referencing fighting Mario so him being the original DK is still canon.

Even recent stuff like New Donk City is directly referenced with crates labeled NDC.

2. Nintendo is treating Pauline like a new character. You’d think if she was a younger version of the character they would acknowledge it. But she’s just described as a talented young singer who wants to find a way home. She mentions having a dream to sing. What if she was inspired by her mom/aunt Pauline?

3. It makes for a better story. My final and most important point. DK and Pauline’s friendship seems to be the core of the game and its story. Why weaken it by making her the younger version of someone DK is HEAVILY implied to have romantic feelings for? Also the idea of children* of the original DK and Pauline becoming friends is just adorable.

*I know current DK is usually Cranky’s grandson but I can see that being retconned with the movie making them father and son

at some point you have to realize that you actually have to read to understand the nuance of anything. we as a society are obsessed with summarization, likely as a result of the speed demanded by capital. from headlines to social media (twitter being especially egregious with the character limit), people take in fragments of knowledge and run with them, twisting their meaning into a kaleidoscope that dilutes the message into nothing. yes, brevity is good, but sometimes the message, even when communicated with utmost brevity, requires a 300 page book. sorry.

Deconstructing Doof is such a great Phineas and Ferb episode because it’s about one guy figuring out how the show works and then losing his mind over it.

okay so the slumber party ep seemed to imply that vanessa knows that the flynn-fletchers are perry's host family. because she dares buford to eat some of perry's food, and calls perry by name

but wouldn't it be really funny if she was just as faceblind as her father. she knows that candace, ferb, and phineas have a pet platypus named perry, but she think it's just a coincidence. maybe perry is a common/classic platypus name, like max or fido for dogs, or whiskers or tiger for a cat. there's no way this brainless meat brick is her dad's nemesis

In light of the Mario Kart World game releasing today, I decided to give Daisy’s “Oasis” outfit a redesign.

My inspo for Daisy’s outfit comes from ancient Egyptian clothing.

Fun Fact: Egypt was one of the countries that Daisy’s home, Sarasaland is based on!

I am happy that Nintendo is acknowledging Daisy’s origins in Sarasaland, however I was a little disappointed to see that Daisy’s “Oasis” outfit is pretty much Jasmine’s outfit from Aladdin. Even the hairstyles are the same!

Aladdin is an orientalist movie and an outfit like Jasmine’s perpetuates the hypersexualization of eastern women.

I feel like Nintendo was being pretty lazy with this design. It would have been really cool to see a fresh idea for Daisy.

I’m not necessarily offering my redesign as the definitive alternative. I just have an interest in history and cultural clothing. So I would rather draw Daisy wearing an outfit like this than what they picked for the game.

One thing I find interesting about Surgolin is how they both have a more cynical take on the Sonic vs Eggman conflict compared to the rest of the canon cast

It really is because they are basically a potential power couple that's been disillusioned by the whole situation. Surge sees the whole conflict from a villain point of view thanks to Starline pointing out the whole cyclical nature of it all (and the brainwashing). While Lanolin sees it from the hero point of view after constantly seeing Sonic treat everything as a game while also being a complete loose cannon.

Put them together, two strong-willed women who desperately want to see things change, and it's a perfect recipe for throwing the whole Sonic Cycle off the rails.
