reddie was the reason i left 2017 and decided to re-read IT & not in the “omg !!! i ship them and i need more content !!!” kind of way it was actually me being like “ ? am i really remembering this wrong bc if i remember correctly they were nothing like that in the book.” 

and here’s where it gets real complex:

i’m eh about 2017 reddie

but my ass ??? is all about this weird complex combination of the three i made up in my mind. like i like book reddie but if 2017 reddie didn’t have me imagining their relationship but with eddie with a little more fire and a little less insecurity i highly doubt i would have reached fic-writing levels of enjoying it. i really liked 2017 eddie but he was REALLY thrown aggressively in another direction than book eddie. fun thing to do: imagine 2017 richie calling 2017 eddie ‘eddie spaghetti’ (unpopular opinion: but this would be incredibly out of character for 2017 richie but anyway) i’m pretty sure eddie would just straight up strangle him. 

anyway all of this led to a introspective night of “i wonder what tf they’re going to do in 2019 bc the thought of 2017 eddie marrying myra OR being a forever virgin living with his mother is really....not believable.” and then my fantastical, dreamer ass was like “what if he’s actually just gay” which. they are not going to do so i’m not getting my hopes up on it. BUT then i was imagining my made up mixed mind eddie being out and gay and happy and a teenager in modern day bc i am a lazy fuck who doesn’t like writing fics in older times bc i hate research and i was all :))) and then i was imagining richie not losing him to a sewer monster but to a regular boy and a very elongated version of “why did you do that?” “i don’t know” (but he knew well enough) being a fic. and then i went looking for it. then i couldn’t find it so i rolled up my fucking sleeves and said guess i’m gonna do it myself and thats how “& that’s for all time” was born. when it started getting. super complicated and long and involving all of the other losers getting plots of their own (bc ur friends dont exist to be side characters in ur drama!!) i was like okay time to get TF !!! over that social anxiety and angst u get when posting ur writing and post this and get some feedback. so i did and tumbled down the rabbit hole and now we are here.

“Don’t touch him, he’s scared!” Mike curled his arms defensively into his chest, cradling the creature carefully. Stan blinked, and looked to Bill, who was a step behind Mike. Bill shrugged in a ‘you try and stop him’ way. Stan looked in between Bill, and Richie, and then back to Mike. No, Stan hadn’t been driven more insane than he already was, apparently. He was seeing correctly. Mike was, in fact, standing on Richie’s welcome mat clutching a hedgehog as if it were made of diamonds.

stan

-is known to be ridiculously hard-worker. his friends know that’s not...necessarily true? stan is excellent at getting what he wants. he sees loopholes REALLY easily & generally works smarter, not harder. 

-bird watching isnt as nearly as popular in 2017 as it was in 1950-whatever it was. stan and his dad still do it, but more often they go fishing.

bev

-aunt clara and bev fought for their entire first two years together. (when bev was 14 & 15) it was tough on both of them. clara never planned on having kids, bev never really planned on having parents. it took a lot of learning for them to come together

-uh the first time she kissed richie was the day after he got his braces off, they were both 16, summer in between sophomore and junior year, and it was TERRIBLE

mike

-dated a girl for the entirety of the last summer, summer in between junior and senior year. (her name was sabrina) is not looking to date someone again until college. {i keep waiting for this to organically come up with all this noah business and it just ? hasn’t?}

-took himself, ben and eddie to comic con in the fall. (they had...SUCH a good time)

ben

-loves dcoms and dcom music fairly unapologetically 

-had one tweet that went twitter famous and got like 100k retweets. richie was furious. {like. actually though. he spent a better half of a week pretending to not be angry. bev told him to knock it off}

richie 

-Richie has a Vape on him at all times. It wasn’t mentioned because it doesn’t further the plot progression. (this was supposed to be written in the style of that dumbledore rollerskate post but i was too lazy to find the post.) no but seriously richie almost always has his vape on him. he and bev are way more likely to use vapes because the smell doesn’t bother their friends, they smell good!

-richie has the most followers of the 7 on all social media platforms. 

bill

-has a problem with inactivity. he and richie {sometimes eddie, sometimes mike} are always doing dumb shit (going to the dump, exploring abandoned buildings) bc bill needs to be doing something. he can’t play video games all day the way richie can. 

-this is going to sound so Bad but asjfkld; bill is like. not good at friendship?? AJFDK; like...bill is one of those people where if you want to be around him you’re gonna have to invite ya’ damn self. he’ll hang out with anybody. literally. such a nice guy. but you have to ask him. bill never texts first unless he needs something. 

eddie

-is really obsessed with the idea? of travel? he hasn’t spent a toooon of money from his checks from either of the two summers bc well, part of the deal of him taking full time work with his mom was that he’d save the money. (and she checks that, she sees his bank account.) but he fantasizes a lot about just dropping it all to go see the world. he watches travel vloggers on youtube. eddie just really REALLY wants out of derry. 

-is not going into college with a set major because he’s not going to his first choice school.

okay here is just my meta about what the losers look like as late teenagers specifically within the &tfat universe here we goes 

my height headcanons really don’t change throughout the universes. to an extent, neither do the faces really. only really richie changes drastically depending on the fic. so here are my headcanon loser HEIGHTS:

eddie : 5′ 6″ beverly : 5′ 7″ mike: 5′ 9″* stan: 5′ 9″ ben: 5′ 10″ & 1/2 bill: Actually 6′ but slouches like Nobody’s Business richard: 6′ 2″

*it’s mentioned in the book that mike is like 5′ 7″...jarringly short for what, i believe it’s in bill’s pov, was expecting. he’s thin and super tired and he says “i know how i look” i still think he’s a relatively short man as an adult, but i’m gonna take a leap and say that i think the prolonged stress hindered his growth in the canon timeline. 

okay so SunshineBoyTM Mike Hanlon i normally picture actual SunshineBoyTM John Boyega. he is too old by a few years- six or so, so i keep that in mind but...so Cute (This is really just about my crush on john) and i Love Them. i imagine mike to have the most physical muscle mass, as he is the only one of the group who does physical labor. followed by bill, because he sort of does some too. fun fact, john is also 5′ 9″

eddie i Know i’ve mentioned on this blog before but noah galvin. he smol and neat...and i love him. there are some differences. I imagine eddie as pretty damn thin, especially facially as an adult (which is a WorryTM for some of his friends) and eddie i imagine literally having the nose of a pixie...but the big eyes and haircut and happy smile is very eddie to me

for stan, i picture devin druid. this is the closest one to my exact mental image. in fact, it might just be my exact mental image. he’s the exact correct age, 19, and he literally looks...just like him, man. 

bennyBOI i love him i use emory cohen from netflix’s the OA. he’s thiccer, and has the square face that i imagine ben having. he might be a little lighter than i picture ben - emory’s weight seems to have fluctuated over the past few years. i  don’t really like the whole ben loses a ton of weight thing, i think he can be soft and still wonderful and ready to be loved. i really really fuck with adult!ben being james cordon, and i like this guy as a middle of the road mental image. his character on the oa is also just...gentle and soft, and shares a lot of mannerisms.

i would say i am Least confident in my choice for bill. i think it also has a lot to do with the character he plays on 13 reasons why. (which i really didnt enjoy but thats another post) but the character himself is both incredibly soft spoken and very bold, and it reminds me a lot of how i see bill denbrough. i imagine bill having neat, short hair, a sharp jaw line, and blue eyes, which this guy fits the bill on all three, but there’s still something off. i really don’t even know how describe it. 

okay, and we get down to richard... who i really only describe as a Muppet who is Trying His Best. i don’t always fuck with gangly!richie but i do in this fic, i think he’s very thin. honestly...i am always tempted to retreat back into the safe embrace of ben barnes - who is WAY too fucking old now, and too fucking old in the movie pictured, as well, he’s about 25 in the photos, but it is as close an image as i can get. i imagine rich with wavy hair, not curly, the length pictured below. and a big ol’ pair of glasses. again, not a huge fan of the contacts thing. i think i specifically mention richie in &tfat isn’t a big fan of them either, and only wears them at the faire. 

and you might have noticed bev has gone absent from this and that’s because the person i really picture as bev is a real life friend of mine whose picture im not gonna post all over the internet. i really cannot think of a famous woman who possesses the long red-haired yet insanely androgynous energy i really picture for bev. she does have very long hair in the fic, mentioned a few times, because of the princess thing. i don’t know if that will last. anyway, fortunately, bev is not an insecure character at this point in time in her life, and so, she doesn’t fuss with her appearance a lot. she hardly notices, and if we’re in her pov, how she looks is very rarely on her mind. and because of the rest of the losers are...well, boys, we don’t hear a lot about what she’s wearing.  

my descriptions of characters really comes from who’s point of view we’re in. you’ll hear about what richie looks like in eddie’s pov, and vice versa. the only time you’ll get a good description of bev is in ben, mayyyybe bill’s pov, but probably really only ben. 

for the most part, all of them, especially stan, have looked the same to each other for literally years, so there’s no reason for them to comment on it in their Internal Monologue, lol. what they wear isn’t particularly interesting, and it’s mentioned off-hand if at all, bill in plaid/baseball shirts, mike in tshirts and sweatshirts, ben has an affinity for knit sweaters out of work, stan in button ups, work or not, eddie the same, but with funn-er colors, bev’s style fluctuates all the time but they’re guys who don’t really notice, and richie’s outfits, if they’re interesting, i’ll normally jot down a short description. 

bev, for the record, wears a lot of baby-doll dresses and tights/leggings, mom jeans and highwaisted shorts, and cropped hoodies/sweatshirts. 

i don’t do a lot of character description because honestly it’s not how i organically consider my friends in my personal life & i think it makes stories feel more real. i’m not like “my best friend lou just walked in, wearing a green t-shirt with a gray henley under it” i’m more like “lou walked in and thank fucking god because the gossip i have to tell him is Killing me.” and also, like i said... it lets people imagine what they want to .

I love that you included Patty in &taft! Can I ask what your feelings are on Audra and Myra? It's been awhile since I read the book, but I remember not caring for Audra as much as King seemed to want us to. I feel there was too much "you should care about her fate!!!" emphasis on a character that wasn't really developed much. But like I said I haven't read the book in years so I'm probably way off

i...love patty. truly. i cringe a little bit at the hating stanley uris takes a bath chapter posts because even though the ending is horrible, it is one of my favorite chapters in the book. i think their relationship is beautiful, and so well matched. the smallest details in that chapter give the biggest indications about their relationship and the entire section is really quite short for explaining an entire love story and does it beautifully. also, i think that the way stan is written is one of the biggest triumphs of the book. i think everyone leaves that bit thinking “ah, okay, i won’t care about that guy because i already know he’s dead bc he kills himself so why would i lol” and then by the time you get to stan making everyone swear to come back and cutting their palms open, you LOVE him and you hate yourself for doing it. 

myra is conflicting to me. myra is astoundingly emotionally manipulative. in that, if you’re not paying enough attention as a reader, you might actually begin to feel bad for her. i think something that is missed a lot is that people often perceive eddie’s relationship with both myra and his mother as “they convince him that he needs them to take care of him.” myra did not do this. myra needed eddie to take care of her. she is a grown woman behaving like an actual child when he leaves her for a few days. myra less-so feeds off of eddie’s feelings of fragility, and moreso into his needs of being wanted/needed. (side note: i really don’t fuck with the blatant fat-phobia in her writing, sonia’s writing, or ben’s writing. it’s just bad.) eddie empathizes with her momentarily, and i think for a moment, so does the reader. because you trust what emotions are handed to you by your narrator. eddie becomes more of an unreliable narrator as you continue through his story. you learn more about his mother and his life as a child, the more you begin to hate myra, if you even remember her. and then when eddie has his outburst because richie is prying into his sexual life and making assumptions, it is nearly painful. the reader knows for a fact that eddie is not attracted to his wife, but eddie still has to defend his sexual life and sexuality. it’s really painful when richie reaches to touch and comfort eddie after and eddie screams at him. 

myra is a victim of misogynistic writing because her character exists to serve eddie’s. (not as a literal serve, but like...is literally only there to expand upon eddie’s character) & her childish, petulant tantrum is another piece of that. but she also just sucks! so there’s that. 

i think king’s misogyny is occasionally apparent in how he writes women. (beverly is an outstanding outlier in this and is much more dynamic in the book than in 2017 and i won’t apologize for saying it) i won’t say its misogynistic to not love audra. i think it’s more valid to criticize the i very much feel as if king could as well have written “she is incredibly beautiful and she loves bill and that is what you need to know in order to at least like her.” because ? really ? i think that is lowkey the narrative straight men are told when it comes to love. i think it’s also valid to say that king might have thought that if audra had more of a comprehensive personality, you might not understand why bill still loves bev more. newsflash, king: a woman can have a personality and be beautiful and a man can still not love her. she’s flat. the only reason the ending is enjoyable where she comes to on silver is because it reinstates the power of child-like belief. it works because bill believes it will.

Stan was sitting at the kitchen table. He had the New York Times app open on his phone. He and Mr. Denbrough were working on the crossword. It wasn’t an unusual Monday. At the kitchen aisle, Richie had wet hair and a cup of hot chocolate in his hands. Everyone knew Richie didn’t drink coffee. He was telling Mrs. Denbrough a story about a guest last week that got so drunk they tried to climb the side of the castle. Ben was giggling next to him, even though he had heard him tell it at least three times already. 

He heard Eddie start shrieking in the attic.

Like Stan had thought earlier, nothing entirely out of the ordinary.

Actually I just realized my last ask (the one that's nervous about the UST btwn rich/bev) sounded a little rude and whiny, please ignore it! &taft just evokes the strongest emotions out of me, most likely because all the relationships are so rich and palpable, it makes me so invested in literally everyone, up to and including Georgie. in short: bev/rich isn’t something to worry about in this fic. i think sometimes there are just flashes of moments where you’re attracted to someone? even if it’s been a while? it wasn’t so much that it was richie. it was moreso it was someone safe and comfortable who she loves. bc bev is really Feeling the effect of her past right now and she’d really like affection but has major trust issues (with good reason) but still wants to be held. it can be super rough waters in situations like that. she’s just having a tough time. :( i love my girl.
