i was not expecting anyone to reblog that post about my poem which is making me wish i could make my tumblr private the way you can with twitter or insta. i always get really anxious about things escaping my circle. it feels nice, like, i have friends who are proud of me, and i do want people to read and hopefully enjoy my poetry. but oh my goooood the mortifying idea of being known!!!!!!

Leather and Embers and Coffee (Kylo Ren x Reader)

“I have a large cold brew for Leo.”

This morning in the cafe you worked in was very busy for a Monday. It was like the minute you turned your back to make a drink, there was another customer coming in. It was supposed to be you and your coworker Ein, but called to tell you he was going to be about an hour late, which irritated you to the max. Working in the cafe down the street from Starbucks, you were always going to get those customers who try to order a Strawberry Acai with extra fruit, or a S'mores Frappuccino with no whip. 

“I’m sorry ma’am, but we don’t carry that drink.” you would say. 

And then it was like they went through the 5 stages of grief, all in about 5 seconds. You’ll get the “well I ordered it last time and you all made it,” or the “the coffeehouse down the street makes it, why can’t you?”, or your personally favorite, “Starbucks is better than you anyways.” 

You still got a good amount of business, since your coffeehouse was more homey and the prices were lower, so it didn’t really bother you. You could carry a shift by yourself, since you’ve been working here for the past few years and such. It wasn’t that hard or grueling. The only thing bothering you today was Ein calling and that was it. 

You just finished helping a customer when a group of men all dressed in suits walked in, a threatening jaunt in their step. In the middle of the group was a man with red hair, a scowl smeared on his face. His face conveyed so much annoyance, it seemed you could hear what was going through his head. You could also tell that he was rich, seeing as his suit looked like it cost more than your rent, which was already overpriced for a studio. 

He glanced around the cafe, surveying the people. He took a few more steps in, shooing away his bodyguards. You continued making the drinks when you saw a tall man with wavy, dark hair walking in. This was one of your regulars, who came in around the same time everyday, and ordered the same thing. You smiled at him, giving him a small wave. You could remember his order in the middle of this mess. It was a cafe mocha with  extra chocolate syrup, and occasionally, a croissant.  A He gave you a small nod, his version of a hello. His corners of his lips twisting into what you think was either a smile or he was just making a face at the crowd surrounding you. 

The red head turned to your regular, speaking lowly but closely to him. The regular leaned in, listening to all he had to say. As you shelled out drink after drink, the crowd became smaller. It was then that the redhead sauntered over to the register, tapping his finger on the counter. You wiped your hands on your apron. 

“Good morning, how can-” you began. He lifted his hand to ignore you. 

“Americano with an extra shot of espresso.” he said, “should be easy for you.” 

“And a good name?” you asked. 

“Some people should already know my name, but I’ll spare you the embarrassment. It's Hux, H-U-X.” he muttered. 

Okay, already hating this. As you tapped his order into the system, he began tapping the counter with his metal debit card, sighing. 

“Okay, that is 4.00 dollars.” you said. He tossed the card on the counter, making a clinking sound as it hit the surface. A smirk rose on his face. 

“Did you hear that sound?” he asked you. 

Biting your tongue, you replied. “What sound, sir?” 

“That’s the sound of making real money in the real world. In an actual business.” he said proudly. 

You just nodded, swiping his card so you can make his coffee and he can leave. 

“You know, I just started working in that building across the street, so this may become my little hangout.” he said. Oh, great. 

“Oh, sweet!” you said, plastering a fake smile on your face. “This really is a nice place to sit and relax.” 

For some reason, you felt yourself regret your choice of words. 

“Ah, yes. Relax, people watch, checking out some nice girls like yourself.” he said quietly. You caught that last part, and wanted to pour your freshly brewed french press on his smug face. 

“Alright, here you go. Well, I hope to see you again soon!” you said cheerfully. 

As you hand his receipt, his fingertips gently brushing the top of your hand. 

“I hope so too, (y/n).” he smirked.

“Hello.” you heard. 

You looked up to see your regular standing in front of you, his arms crossed. He flashed you a small smile. 

“How are you? It's been a minute since I saw you.” you said, smiling. 

“Since yesterday, nothing much has happened.” he replied. 

“Better to have nothing happened to have something happen.” you said. 

He shrugged. “Nothing did happen, and he’s standing over there.” he mumbled. 

You leaned over the counter, trying not to look too suspicious. 

“Are you both working together?” you whispered. 

He bent down to whisper, he cologne smelling of burnt leather and cinnamon. The scent was so warm and welcoming, you almost forgot you were in a coffeehouse and not by a fireplace at Christmas. 

“Unfortunately, yes. I’ve already decided to find a way to get rid of him.” he whispered. 

“Get rid of him? And how do you plan on doing that?” you said quietly, your hand cupping the side of your mouth. 

“Make it look like an accident and hide him far, far away. No one will miss him, except the cat.” He smirked. 

You nervously laughed. “Should I be concerned?” 

His smirk quickly faded. “Oh, no no no. I was joking, I promise.” 

“You had me in the first half, not going to lie.” you chuckled. 

“Me? Nah, I could never.” he replied. 

“Unless?” you grinned. 

“Yes, (y/n), unless.” he smiled. 

You haven’t seemed to notice Hux striding to the counter. 

“What seems to be the hold up?” he muttered, “we have places to be, get on it.” 

Taken aback by his sudden appearance and new found anger for you, you felt your cheeks get red in what you think was anger or embarrassment. 

“I-i’m sorry-” you began, but was cut off. 

“She’s still helping me, thank you. And she’ll get on it when she’s done helping me.” Ren said, a small clench in his jaw becoming more noticeable. There was a small silence, then Hux let off a sigh. 

“In that case, Ren, I’ll order for you. Another Americano, same as mine. Just so you don’t waste anymore of my time.” he ordered. With a snap of his fingers, you nervously wrote Ren’s name on his cup.

“And this one is on me. Take this as a first day gift from yours truly.” Hux smiled, throwing his card like he did before. As you ran his card again, he checked his Apple watch, shaking his head. 

“Will you look at that, Ren?” he held up his watch right in Ren’s face, “they need me back. Do me a favor and grab my coffee?” 

Hux walked out, swinging the door open. You turned back to Ren, who was looking very upset. You couldn’t tell if it was embarrassment, anger, or annoyance. Maybe it was all three at once. 

“I’ll be okay. Just thinking of that good hiding spot.” he said. 

“So am I, just let me know when you do it so we can celebrate.” you chuckle. He walked to the pickup spot, his arms crossed. As you started Hux’s drink, you decided to do something special. You secretly placed a croissant in the microwave, glancing up to see if he was watching. You didn’t mind the way Ren looked at you. There was nothing malice or creepy, above all it was more awe and watching you work. Instead of making another Americano, you began to steam some milk and pulled out the chocolate syrup. 

You placed Hux’s and Ren’s drink in a small holder, as well as a bag. 

“Here a gift from us for being a loyal customer.” you smiled. He looked in the bag, seeing his croissant. 

“Oh god, thank you. This means a lot, (y/n)” He beamed, placing 15 dollars in the tip jar.  

“Anytime.” As he started to walk off, you waved your hand. “Oh, wait!” 

“Yes?” he said, turning around to look at you. 

“Can you tell me how your Americano tastes? Just to be sure it's alright.” you said. 

“Oh course, I never had it before, so-” As he tasted it, he put his head down, but you could see he was blushing. 

“Soo, what do you think?” you asked. 

“It's the best thing I ever tasted.” he said, taking another sip. 

With you, you didn’t hide blushing at all. “Thank you so much. Tell me how it goes.” you said, referencing his little problem. 

“Oh trust me, I will.” he smiled, waving bye. 

You waved back, watching him leave. As soon as he walked out, you let yourself think of what happened. You kept replaying your conversation over and over. You did this every time you both would talk. It was a nice pastime to ease the boredom. But what kept popping up in your head was his smile. He didn’t smile much, just a little chuckle and maybe a slight upturn of the corners of his lips sometimes. So maybe you did something really good today. 

You heard the clicks of Ein’s footsteps rushing behind you. 

“I was a goner for a second out there. Has the rush started yet?” he asked as he put his apron on, his face flushed. 

“You just missed it, sweets. It wasn’t all that bad.” you smiled, handing him a small cup of coffee. 

“Thank you, I need this.” he took the cup and gulped the entire thing. He squinted his eyes at you suspiciously. “You have that look in your eye, the one that kinda scares me. What happened?” 

You told him about your recent encounter with your favorite regular, as well as your new hatred for his coworker. 

“You’re such a sweetheart, (y/n). I’m telling ya, he really has a thing for you. One day he’s going to come in here, get on one knee and ask you to marry him. No dating, nothing, just straight to the wedding.” he said. 

“He does have the money to pay for it on the spot, sooo..” you and Ein laughed. After your giggle fest, you began to clean the counter from the rush. You were cleaning around the register when you spotted it. A small, metal card, with the name Armitage Hux inscribed on the front. Oh no.

Hello, I remember a while back you mentioned you used one of the meal kit delivery services. I was wondering if you had much luck with them? And how they were in terms of cost + amount of food in your opinion? I'm curious b/c with my history of depression and disorganization related to my adhd meal planning / cooking is hard for me. If you or anyone else has any opinion on any of the meal kit delivery services I'd love to hear ^^

hey!! this is going to be long i have a lot of feelings about depression + adhd + trying to eat consistently and thoughtfully

i find them really useful and honestly, if you have the means to pay upfront, they can be comprable to what i would spend in the grocery store. specifically — home chef is super affordable and easy, like $40 a week maybe. i stopped using it because i didnt love the recipes but thaaaats because im a picky bitch

at my most depressed is when i started using mealkits and it was amazing because it created structure that made sure i would actually eat. also, when i get in a really dark place, i become really afraid of everything even when it isnt logical. like im afraid to cook because it takes energy, maybe my back will hurt/spasm, maybe i’ll screw it up and i’ll have wasted my time, etc. meal kits are helpful because they remove so much of the guessing. most of them are three meals a week, and i typically got at least three servings out of each (unless it was like a burger kit or something of course). so thats at least nine guaranteed meals a week, then you can supplement with like. canned soup, frozen burritos, cereal, other easy serve meals

i will say i no longer use them but i still DEEPLY struggle with food prep/meal planning and honestly it absolutely does not work for me at all. what i do instead is block out time on my calendar for cooking/follow the occasional whim, and ill go grocery shopping for ONLY those ingredients. i found that if i tried to plan a full week i’d get way overwhelmed and give up and then end up with the ingredients going bad. i also easily get sick of leftovers so ive been concious of making meals that i could freeze without drastically reducing quality.

to lay it out more clearly: so i usually end up shopping smaller amounts twice a week and then immediately cooking when i get home, these grocery hauls are usually like $30 max. ill usually get ingredients for two meals im excited about (i genuinely love cooking! and i personally prefer cooking something exciting over more traditional/easy meals because i get passionate about it and then feel super proud, which reinforces this behavior) and then a few apples, bananas, some snacks, etc and thats been treating me really well. it also helps me stick to my budget which is great because im making a reduced wage right now and it is hitting me hard lol

last thing - to tag on to my point of how its been helpful for me to harness my passion for cooking: i have not been satisfied with any methods of keeping recipes so i experimented with ways that would make it easy to find things in a way that make sense for ME. most apps either lack features i want or, worse, lack recipes im interested in and have annoying features that make it difficult to add in your own shit. and i lose written recipes no matter what and i find looking through them really tedious. so i started using my notes app to record recipes that excite me so that when it comes time for me to cook i can scroll through or search like. “vegan” if im cooking for me and my partner, “quick” if i know ive been exhausted recently and dont wanna push it, etc. ive just been screencapping recipes and uploading the pictures and i know objectively its like a very Basic solitude but lowkey it feels mind blowingly useful to me

ok jeez sorry for rambling this is just something ive been spending a lot of time and energy on and i have a lot to say. good luck!!! its hard but u got this. find ways to hold yourself accountable. use a calendar or set a timer or draft a friend to do it with you - one of the benefits of the mealkits specifically is u can hook people up with that entry discount and then make it a Thing you do together. or if you have roomates, you could all pitch in to a family meal plan so it can be a shared experience. set yourself up for success in as many ways as you possibly can!

B: Benefits - Any perks of him/her dating you?

- I will be a realist here. You will become super smart and your confidence will boost upon the max. You will always receive compliments about your looks, you will always get that positive energy from him and you will finally realize that your existence matters and you will finally accept your looks and love yourself. Even the most insecure people will finally break from the chains and feel free if they spend time with him. Even the slightest flaw of yours will be counted as a treasure for Kidou. He will never dare to talk about your insecurities, but will make you forget that they exist and accept them as an art and he will indicate only your beauty. You will feel loved, supported and protected.

F: Fur/feathers - What kind of animals will they give you? Or do they like animals?

- He is not an animal person, because he kinda feels uneasy with an animal in the house. Of course he will not mind if you have some kind of a nuisance to take care in the house if you desire. He can buy you both birds and animals. He always thought cats are disgusting and he prefers to have a small dog, since big dogs kinda worry him and he feels like they will leap and tear you apart at any moment. Its most likely of him to buy a small dog or just a simple talking parrot. He will pay attention to the color and chose wisely, but will trust the whole care to you, since he is actually not experienced in taking care of animals.

I: Intimacy - Will they rush with sex?

- Nope, not at all. He actually forgets that intercourse exists due to his work and other stuff he has to do. Even so... his respect towards women is so powerful that he even won't dare to touch you if you feel uncomfortable. He will even turn around when you dress up. If you alone desire to do the thing with him, he will gladly accept you, but keep in mind that he actually wants his first time to be with the girl he will marry.

J: Jokes - Can they make you laugh hard?

- He will make you laugh when he narrates stories in which Endou took part. He will comprehensively describe everything that happened and you will laugh out loud when you hear the things they did. He will even narrate the whole practice if it had something funny. He will also expose to you all his nicknames and you will not resist it. He describes only the people's dumb actions when it comes to making you laugh.

S: Scent - What is their scent? Do they like yours?

- His scent has been the same since he is a kid - a strong ass cologne, even after and before practice. He only uses that, and manages to slap everyone with the huge fist of pheromones, nothing else in addition-

About your scent, he will adore yours, it will be his drug and eternal desire. He only wishes to get back from work/school and breathe in deep your fresh scent and finally relax, restart his mind and take a small rest until he begins his work again. Every time he smells you, he is finally back to normal and restores his sanity, all his worries fade and his negative emotions as well. You are his solace.

T: Tenderness - Do they get offended easily? Are they way too frail or vulnerable towards your words?

- He is really. You are his treasure and you can offend him easily. Though he will not show it externally, internally he will cry and writhe. He really gets offended and all of his negative thoughts come back, that he is not enough, that you don't deserve him, that you need someone better, that he is nothing, that everything he does is in vain, you want to ditch him and etc. He is just really vulnerable and you should be careful.

U: Utopia - Are they the perfect soulmate? Is life with them flawless?

- 👀yep. I mean, he is respectful, caring, loyal and you read the first answer. The only flaw you will have is the distance towards each other. Kidou will be submerged with so much stuff to do even in his free time, due to his strict foster father. You will not talk with days, because he will always work and focus more and that. He will sure call you to check if you are doing okay and to tell you how are things going with him and thats it. This however will not separate you. He cares a lot about your relationship and he will try his best to meet up with you and spend at least some little time with you, because while he works he thinks of you non stop.

V: Voice - How do they speak to you?

- He speaks to you how he speaks to a formal meeting. He will always try to keep calm and hold a normal conversation with you. He will raise his tone only a bit when he is nervous, but will never shout at you. That is why conversations are always calm with him. He is so chill and collected that its almost impossible not to stop and just thank him for that attitude he has.

W: Weakness - Do they have any weaknesses towards you?

- Aha, that is tricky here. If you stare in his eyes deeply and narrow yours only slightly to make that 'seductive' look, and only smirk a bit, he is done. Like, you conquered his body and he cannot resist you at any cost. His legs will shake and he will start sweating, because this is his standard of sexy. If you come closer to him he will receive a heat stroke, and if you touch him his intestines will melt. You are just attractive and appealing to him in every shit kind of way, like he is so in love that even one blink will make him collapse.

X: (Ex)citement - Do they get excited for the smallest things with you?

- He does, only that he will not jump around like a kid. He will most likely watch you jump and scream, which will warm his heart. He will submerge you with hugs and kisses, saying how brave and clever you are, pointing out how much he is proud and loves you. He will watch you all day long being so happy and jumpy and he will just sit there, smile and praise himself for what an amazing and unique soul mate you are.

Y: Youth - Are they acting childish to cheer you up? Or are they serious and speculate a lot on that?

- He is more of the serious type. He knows that childish plays will not fascinate you, so he will try to speculate things perfectly before talking to you about your problems and all the things that actually burden and depress you. This topic and situation is taken way too seriously by him, because he himself has suffered and he wants to prevent you from all these things as well. He will first try his best to find the source of the problem. If he cannot remove it, he will always hold you close and try his best to protect you and help you with everything until you recover. He will never leave you, never.

Z: Zzz - Are they a heavy sleeper? How do they sleep? Do they like to wake you up?

- He is a light sleeper, but this never bothered him, since he falls asleep fast. He is so effing silent and still that you will constantly check if he is alive. He only breathes in his sleep, no snoring or bothering sounds at all. Both of you will be so quiet like oof. He will rather watch your beautiful face in its sleep than waking you up and causing a disturb. He will caress your cheeks and remove excess hair from your face, smiling at your beauty and falling again asleep.

LADY GAGA - STUPID LOVE

Far from "Shallow" now...

Brad Shoup: Thudding sixteenths and vocal chop straight out of a Todd Edwards remix... it's always great when she visits. [8]

Wayne Weizhen Zhang: It must be exhausting to be Lady Gaga. Here's a short list of her accomplishments since 2013's ARTPOP: winning a Grammy for a jazz duets album, winning a Golden Globe for her role in American Horror Story, headlining the Super Bowl, co-hosting arguably the best Met Gala in years, winning an Oscar for A Star is Born, getting a number one Billboard single from the soundtrack, launching a vegan make-up line, and starring in a Las Vegas residency. And yet, the dominant critical narrative has still essentially been: Gaga is absent from pop music. (For comparison, Katy Perry has been a judge on American Idol.) Of course, her self-mythologizing is partially to blame for this, but it's unclear what could have possibly satisfied her critics and die-hard fans outside of re-reinventing music à la 2010. So what's her move given the weight of the world's impossible expectations? To make simple, unpretentious pop music on her own terms. In a recent Billboard interview, she laughed while stating, "I would like to put out music that a big chunk of the world will hear, and it will become a part of their daily lives, and make them happy every single day." My first reaction upon reading this was: yes, we should hold Gaga to a higher standard because she's Gaga, but how can we balance that with the potentially damaging effects for her mental health and sanity? So on "Stupid Love" when she sings, "Now it's time to free me from this chain/I gotta find that peace, is it too late?" I like to hope it's meta-commentary on her rediscovering the joy in her music and being, free of expectation. Gaga tracks are often described as "huge" or "epic", but none has ever so perfectly embodied "fun." I'm definitely excited about how this track sounds -- an ebullient return to her earliest disco pop roots, at a time when radio is dominated by trap -- but "Stupid Love" stands out to me because of her embrace of radical self-love. This is the Gaga that I've always loved -- and she's always been enough. [9]

Leah Isobel: The production filters back an entire decade's worth of Stefani's influence into a three-minute Fruit Gusher burst of tang, but the lyrics are decidedly forward-looking, all declarative statements of "now is the time!" bullshit. In the middle of this past/present/future time-play, as the beat drops out beneath her, she asserts the key line: "all I ever wanted was lahv." If it's a disappointingly shallow retcon for an artist whose initial breadth and ambition was the entire point, the promise of it lingers in my brain. After all, it's not too far from a similar pop megalomaniac realizing that she "traded fame for love without a second thought" about 20 years ago. That rich vein of popstar self-examination writ large is so suited to Gaga's talents as an artist -- a provocateur, fake-deep philosopher, musical theatre nerd, and hook-writing master all at once -- that I have listened to this song five times in a row pretty much every single day since it, uh, appeared on the internet. My paws are reluctantly up, Stef. Don't fuck it up. [7]

Jessica Doyle: Fun, and otherwise unremarkable. If you've been a Gaga fan for a while -- if you're invested in the narrative of this hardworking woman, who has been through downs and ups and downs and then ups again -- I imagine the fun is enhanced by a certain comfort and relief in seeing her have fun; in imagining her feeling strong and secure enough to release a fun song that doesn't have to upend anything. But I am a heartless, acontextual consumer, for whom the marginal cost of listening to something else is zero, and I miss "Bad Romance." [5]

Tobi Tella: For an artist who at her peak overstuffed everything with too many ideas, there's really not much happening here. It's loud and upbeat, sure, but the lyrics are barely the thread of a coherent song, and the production reminds everyone who wants "pure" pop to come back to be careful what they wish for. Maybe that A Star is Born "pop music bad guitar music good" cynicism rubbed off too much? [4]

Katherine St Asaph: Just when I thought Gaga was lost to the land of Real Music™, or worse, flailing attempts to be chill by the least chill performer in pop music (yes, including Taylor Swift), she goes and releases this, 50,000 firecrackers on a Eurovision stage. The thicket of hooks is packed, with Black Midi levels of referential density. The whole thing sounds like "Born This Way," which is to say it sounds like "Express Yourself"; there's a juddering sequencer out of "Do What U Want" (reminds me more of "Weekend" by Class Actress, but which is more likely to be the actual inspiration?) and a touch of, of all things, September's "Cry For You." Gaga fills every crevice of the song with singing, throaty and belty and huge: a relief after years of songs filled only with half-assed #vibes. If it feels frivolous against much of Born This Way and The Fame Monster and some of Artpop, and far less ambitious, it at least pulls her out of the "Shallow" piano muck. [7]

Vikram Joseph: Perhaps a stupid song about making stupid choices is the Lady Gaga lead single we both need and deserve in 2020. The battering-ram synths feel like running down a hill into a gale-force wind; the best thing about "Stupid Love" is that Gaga sounds like she's having a lot of fun, and by extension so are we. [7]

Alex Clifton: "Stupid Love," much like "Born This Way" before it, is ready-made for pride parades, grown from the same mystical lab that gave Lady Gaga her incredible melodic sensibilities. Unlike its predecessor, though, it has more euphoria in it, presumably because it's not making a political point. Gaga's more focused on having fun here, and you can tell. The verses aren't my favourite, but the chorus hits as an overwhelming rush of dopamine, and now I can't stop dancing in my computer chair. Between this and Dua Lipa's album, we're in for a hell of a good time for pop music this spring, and I am extremely excited. [7]

Thomas Inskeep: She was doing this better a decade ago. A lot better. [2]

Joshua Lu: The narrative surrounding "Stupid Love" regards it a return to the Pop Gaga that's been mostly absent since 2013: A revival if you're a fan, a regression if you're not. The issue with this narrative is that "Stupid Love" lacks any key similarities to the Gaga of yesteryear; the only real sonic link is how the bassline brings to mind the since-redacted "Do What U Want" beat. Instead we have something that's somehow not a Kygo song, with vocal chirps that got old last year, serviceable but clichéd hooks (the entire pre-chorus has all the charm of a Taio Cruz album track), remarkably basic lyrics filled with platitudes, and a title that has no bearing on anything in the song -- there's nothing lyrically or aurally stupid about anything here, and Gaga has shown a deep capacity to be stupid in her past pop works. In reality, what we have here isn't a return to anything, but rather the continued flagging of Gaga's desire to develop genuinely off-beat or interesting pop music, whether intentional or not. Gaga's talents as a vocalist elevate the song beyond the usual pop pap, but it's not nearly at the level I once hoped she could remain at. [6]

Alfred Soto: Kudos to Jamieson Cox for catching an obvious forebear: the rattling sequencer recalls 2013's forgotten "Do What U Want," which was all set to do some business until radio programmers remembered R. Kelly had been a menace for years. Amiably confusing lack of affect with simplicity, "Stupid Love" flexes its pop strength with the expectation that fans will admire it. [7]

Joshua Minsoo Kim: The synths pack a punch but they never quite get me to where I should be. I wanna feel desperation, exasperation -- that love is worth looking stupid for. All I get is a familiar, quasi-stoic performance that sounds like Gaga's doing some excellent karaoke. [4]

Kayla Beardslee: Sure, it's competent, but Gaga is capable of so much more. Many other blurbs will discuss the song's aggressive datedness and bland lyrics, but what really bothers me is that the two halves of "Stupid Love" -- the dramatic vocals and the unrelenting gallop of the synths -- don't fit together. Gaga is giving her all with those signature "laahv"s, but there's just not enough empty space left for her in the production. Her performance ends up laying flat on top of the track, adding nothing except a sense of laziness from her producers and engineers. [5]

Pedro João Santos: Serviceable Max Martin bopathon scams its way into my brain again -- no matter how direly in need of an incubator this whole structure is. Gaga's weakest lead single feeds you Kygo, threatens to ascend during "All I ever wanted was love", and still can't fight the aura of afterthought. [6]

Jibril Yassin: "Stupid Love" is a giddy rush of EDM-pop fun, but it's the first time experiencing a major Gaga single entirely devoid of surprises. Bracing yourself for a twist that never arrives or a strange turn of vocals rearing its head from nowhere, "Stupid Love" makes up for its unremarkableness with a masterclass in songwriting. What Lady Gaga hasn't forgotten how to do is translate the feeling of having your initial gut feelings completely validated. "Stupid Love" makes its magic in casting the act of love as necessary and dare I say it -- radical. [7]

Jackie Powell: On "Stupid Love" Lady Gaga achieved a corollary. By trying to put her healing process into simple poetry, she also created an accompanying sound that's comparable to an analgesic. The function of the track is to heal and liberate. (Truth be told, Little Monster or not, the song has helped me get out of bed in the morning.) Gaga's latest cut is packaged into a familiar formula, and that's part of the reason why this track serves as a formidable lead single and symbol for the upcoming Chromatica. The equation is one that mirrors the "best of" Stefani Germanotta. What's brilliant about "Stupid Love" is that its visual and lyrical messaging and surrounding sonic arrangement and melody bring what Little Monsters and casual music fans with a Gaga fascination expect. And that's okay. She has told Oprah that her goal now isn't just to shock people but rather to exude authenticity. She stirs elements from all of her pop eras into the most hearty and flavourful version of Gaga soup (and that does include Joanne contrary to popular belief.) Each ingredient works and is soluble. She tossed in the elements of the The Fame that made fans want to Just Dance and sprinkled some catchy Swedish-sounding pop melodies (Max Martin, hello!) and sung onomatopoeia from The Fame Monster, à la the "hey-ah, hey-ahs." A suspenseful build, uniquely potent and soaring vocals are ounces of Born This Way. Don't worry, ARTPOP is doused on this track not only in color, but in sound. There's a reason why that sped up "Do What U Want"-esque bassline works. There's a contrast between her bright vocal performance and the electronic bass' darkness. Joanne comes across in the allegorical concept which once again can be interpreted to reflect the current American experience. Music video director Daniel Askill confirmed that Gaga wanted to portray the "warring tribes as a metaphor for the state of the world today." So, Mother Monster is on a mission to introduce the world to her new brainchild, ever-developing ideologies and honest ways to examine life. "Stupid Love" isn't the end-all but merely the beginning. Paws up and welcome to Chromatica bitches. [8]

Nortey Dowuona: NOPE! WAIT. wait. This is actually a welcome back for... the bass, who is joined by his drumming sister, his synth bros and Lady Gaga, who has come here from the Make A Wish Foundation to take him around New York. They have a wonderful day together, with the synth bros getting their percussive background vocal girlfriend an NYPD hoodie, and the experience convinces Lady Gaga to make bright, happy pop music again! (The bass, in the midst of a happy dance, got hit by her limo and had to go back to the hospital.) [8]

Scott Mildenhall: Between its hyperventilating over-excitement and ever-exciting hyper-sincerity, Gaga seems to have finally created a pop emergency. The false alarm of "Applause" was overstuffed and underpowered, but "Stupid Love" redresses that balance by going harder and clearer, like a newly thawed cut from a cryogenically frozen, course-correcting Artpop Monster edition. Time might seem to have turned in on itself, but no: the greater lyrical directness arrives in a way that feels culminatory. The plainspokenness of that indelible "all I ever wanted was love" makes it almost an epitaph, grounding it in a present in which all experience has been lived, and all realisations are realised. Undeniably, Lady Gaga is not dead, but this is what she knows. [8]

Will Adams: I defended "The Cure" and lamented the immense pressure on Gaga to make every release the Next Big Thing, however even that soured when it turned out to be part of A Star Is Born's ~superficial pop~ world. So where to next, when she's caught between turgid rock balladry and ill-fitting trop-pop? On "Stupid Love," we get the best possible outcome: whizzing past Joanne, making a brief stop at Artpop but ultimately landing on the dazzling excess of Born This Way. Like any good synthpop number, the synths display a wide range of textures: they tunnel, they drill, they poof, they gleam. Gaga is more than willing to match their energy. Noteworthy, though, is that she takes a brief pause only on the pre-chorus's "all I ever wanted was love"; even the way the title scans it almost sounds like she could be singing "I want just to be loved." This is the essence of pop: amidst the big dumb fireworks display, a human message at the core. [7]

- one time Jonathan is just walking by just to check up on them all (with Nancy & Steve ofc) & he over hears that Billy lost his little brother & once the kid’s alone Jon just sits down & is like “I lost my brother too…he came back but I know what you’re feeling” bc he of course he does! he thought Will had died!!! the two have a heart to heart convo & yeah it’s beautiful.

- Nancy almost screams when she’s sees Richie bc wtf that’s her brother but with glasses & a terrible mouth (a trash mouth) & he keeps making “your mom jokes”. She avoids him at all possible costs if she can but its a bit hard to do. Bc is it Richie or Mike? (Once Richie made Mike wear his glasses to see if they could trick anyone. They did but it didn’t end well bc at some point El hung him upside down. All the while Mike was screaming that he wasn’t Richie but she didn’t believe him). ((& Eddie loves Mike Wheeler while Richie is in the back asking Dustin & Bill “what the fuck does he have that I don’t?” “a nice personality” - stan as he walks by)).

- Mike & Mike bond over the fact that have the same name. both groups often shout “MIKE” and they’re both like “which Mike? there are two of us!!” And it just gets worse bc Richie tries to act like Wheeler to confuse everyone even mORE. the Losers just end up saying “Beep beep Richie” to figure it out. (Actually it’s not that hard bc Richie is squinting like the lizard from Monsters Inc. without his glasses when he’s trying to be Wheeler & everyone is just like…dude stop).

- Stan & Will are best buds to the max?? yes. Absolutely. Stan gets Will into liking birds & he also talks about the Jewish religion to Will. Will shares his art with Stan and eventually draws him with birds all around him & Stan declares Will as a new honorary member of the Losers Club. (the ST Gang almost loses their shit bc no way in hell is Will leaving again).

- Steve Harrington oddly being loved by the Losers?? and the ST Gang eventually but Mike Wheeler. Mike is just like “he’s my sister’s boyfriend, hell no” but everyone ignores him. Steve becomes the weird “uncle” to the kids. He buys them all ice cream one day. “Ok maybe he’s alright” - Mike W

- Dustin & Richie eating all the junk food together & cursing everyone out. Just like Stan & Will they’re like best friends x100. Eventually this leads to Dustin/Richie/Beverly hang outs on the regular. Richie wants to take Dustin with them but once again the ST gang is like “fuck off he’s ours”.

- Mike Hanlon and Lucas bonding over the fact that their groups of friends are filled with fucking idiots (but lovable idiots) who do dumb shit all the damn time. and how are they always dragged into the dumb shit??? They don’t know. It just happens. Lucas shows off his slingshot and Mike brags about how he defeated (aka killed, oops?) their bully back in Derry. They’re just best friends, ok.

The tea that we have, the REAL tea leaves, not the fruit juice (where it’s totally up to the consumer if they value it at $1/glass) come from tea farms and plantations from all over the world, mostly from the southern/southwestern Chinese provinces, with long traditions of hand-picking amazing teas. A lot of our top-shelf teas are prepared from leaves grown at the very tops of the trees, the ones with the most exposure to sunlight and therefore the most flavor and nutrients you’re going to find in loose-leaf teas. The individual care that goes into preparing all kinds of tea leaves at these locations isn’t something you can cut prices on by industrializing the process: that’s what bagged tea companies do that take inferior-quality leaves, many times with other twigs and tree detritus mixed in, and chop it up into sawdust, which destroys the process of how tea leaves chemically need to take on water and have room to expand in order to release their max flavor while steeping, and why a bag of Lipton tea will never taste as rich as say, a cup of Indonesian Gold loose-leaf black tea. And all that care is BEFORE the cost of shipping the product from these pro locations to stores all over the world.

This may be an unfamiliar concept to a lot of consumers where (here, American) corporations outsource their labor to other countries for no other reason than to underpay workers and reap the profits themselves while passing very little savings on to the American consumer, BUT: stuff costs money! NICE stuff costs a little MORE money! Yes, tea is a luxury item, and those often get prioritized accordingly in a struggling economy, but nobody is trying to mcfreaking cheat you! Not to mention, Teavana salespeople make it VERY clear that a cup of tea from leaves you take home and steep yourself will average out to about a mere .80-$1.40 per cup as opposed to $5.00 of whatever “popular” fruit juice drink is on tap in the store. (You can save even more money by re-steeping your tea, keeping it in your prep method and running more hot water through it to get multiple cups of tea out of one cup of leaves, which is a great value. Of course not many people HEAR us as we’re advising them of this, because they saw a $20 price tag for tea and their eyes glazed over or they’re already fleeing the store and subsequent math lesson.) But people still go for the $5 drink every time, because paying $20 for tea they can easily get 50-60 cups out of is somehow laughable to them.

Or Mom wouldn’t buy it for them and they’re bitter.

Additionally, for folks crowing merrily about the store closings because “an empwoyee took a bweak fwom kissing my ass there once and actuawwy twied to get me to BUY somefing and it huwt my feewings uwu” or “I used to work at Teavana and my shitty GM was toxic and therefore I hate ALL TEAVANA because this makes SENSE”: upwards of 3300 people are about to lose their fucking jobs, many of whom have been there for years, from “old Teavana” before the acquisition. Starbucks provides education and health care benefits to many of those employees who work over 30 hours a week, and not many other retail jobs they can find will provide those. My GM is a single mom with an abusive ex, one of the hardest workers I’ve ever seen in my LIFE, raising two teenage boys on her own, one of whom is autistic, and they are literally just moving into the new house they just bought. My AGM has worked at JC Penny’s for a DECADE and AGM at Soma for a few years after that, is also a single mom with a young daughter whose heart conditions make health care very expensive, and it’s been understood in the store that as soon as my GM snagged a (much-deserved and often-passed-over) DM position within the company, she would finally get to run her own store. I could go on. People are losing their JOBS. So you had a bad experience once? Don’t be naive, and don’t show your ass: just like in any industry, there are gonna be some mega jerks (who, guess what, their coworkers probably hate too!), there are going to be some of the best people you’ve ever met, and there’s going to be a ton of folks who are just trying to do their best at their job and get through the day at their understimulating retail establishment.

So how about showing a little human empathy for those soon-to-be-unemployed guys who never asked for any of this, huh? And remember who's behind all of this next time you're ponying up for a glass of iced milk and sugar with just a spritz of coffee at Starbucks.

“The Diner”

Part 6

Summary: working at a diner as a waitress, struggling to make bills and take care of the kid your sister left you, one night you meet James.

After dinner you used Bucky’s bathroom to shower and change. You let your head drown under the steaming hot water, which you thoroughly enjoyed. You couldn’t stop thinking of his lips on yours. A smile spreading across your face and you reached up touching your own again in wonder. It had been so long since you had had a man in your life and you thought it wouldn’t happen. 

It wasn’t that Max was in the way or anything, but any guy that was interested in you ultimately paled when faced with Max. Bucky swept him up in his arms, paying close attention to everything Max did or said to him. Bucky gave him validation, you doubted it was an act too as he never paid attention to you when Max called to him. His eyes were completely on Max keeping up with whatever conversation he had dragged him into. 

Stepping out and drying off you looked at yourself in the mirror, you were still a bit pale but you were recovering very well. You idly wondered how much a home visit from a private doctor cost as you dressed. Stepping out towel over your head you heard a chuckle before you felt him, his hands on your shoulders. 

“Hey there doll,” you looked up from under the towel and smiled, “feeling better?” he asked.

“Yes, actually so much better. I can’t remember when I felt this rested...”

Bucky tipped your chin up and pressed a quick kiss to your lips. “sorry,” he blushed and stepped away from you, “I, uhh, just had to.” You found his nervous chuckle adorable and frowned when you saw Max come bounding into the room, blanket in one hand and Hulk in the other. “You and Max can have my bed for the night, I’ll take the couch.”

“No! Bucky.... “ You put your hand on his shoulder as he moved to step out, “I can’t let you do that, Max can take the couch and I’ll sleep on the floor-”

“Y/N! Really?!” he laughed, “That’s insane! We forced you to stay for dinner and now you will take my bed and you will sleep in it...” he became serious leaning in close so only you could hear, “maybe you wanted to share the bed with just me again?” he asked voice low and rough, it sent shivers throughout your body and he smirked as he glanced over at you. Jesus, he was so close your could practically feel his lips on your neck! “James..”

Max jumped on the bed, “You’ll sleep with us?!” he asked and you looked over shocked, “otherwise it isn’t a sleepover!”

Bucky snickered as you gaped at him, “Max..” you started and he fell to his knees on the bed. 

He looked at you two his bottom lip jutted out, shoulders slumped. “But Buuuuucky!” he whined his voice picking up in pitch, “I have to tell you about the girl at school!”

“Kid, we can talk in the morning, when we go out to the park.” Bucky laughed as Max followed him around towards the door.

Max held his Hulk up, “please dont go...”

Bucky sighed and looked over at you, you shrugged, “It’s your bed,” you said. And it was HUGE, you hadn’t known they made then this big.

Bucky bit his bottom lip as Max grabbed onto his arm. He chewed on it for a minute, his free hand rubbing the back of his head. “uhhh, well...if Y/N is okay with it.”

Max popped off the bed, running over to shut the door and jumping back on the bed. Max pulled you into bed next to him and Bucky cleared his throat. Max made it clear where he was going to be on the bed, pulling you close behind him and leaving only the spot behind you available, putting you between them. Shaking his head with a smirk Bucky shrugged out of his tee, leaving him in only his grey sweats and white tank. 

He slid into bed behind you laying on his back, his flesh arm tucked under his head, the left by his side. He wasn’t sure when he drifted off into sleep, he knew Max was going on and on about what he was going to do at school. Then he was talking about Hulk and his Smash effects a soft smile curving Bucky’s lips, his eyes drifting down. Bucky had been tense, but listening to Max yammer on he began to relax, any apprehension slipping away as he began to doze. He woke easily when he felt you shift against him. He looked over to see Max completely sideways his feet against your tummy pressing you back on the bed, he couldn’t help but grin as you groaned when Max kicked. 

You woke with a jolt and groaned as Max caught you under the ribs, the air slightly knocked out of you. You sat up and took in a slow breath glaring at the kid that had just gut kicked you. “Little...” you turned around when you heard a chuckle. “Hi,” you whispered.

Bucky grinned at you, “c’mere...” he pulled you down wrapping his arm around your shoulder. You protested, “babe, just hush and go to sleep.” he grumbled already falling asleep himself. You were tense for a moment and smiled as he murmured in his sleep moving so that you laid your head on his chest more comfortably and listened to him breathe.

Max woke you up as the sun rose, jumping on the bed. “Y/N! Y/N! Y/N!!” he jumped, “Bucky said he would take me to the park!!” he sang happily.

You lifted your head and held a finger to your lips, “Max, quiet! Let Bucky sleep, we can go when he wakes yeah? Why dont you go downstairs? I’ll come in a minute and make you pancakes.” Max pressed his lips together in a tight smile and slipped off the bed, the lure of television too great when you barely had any at home. 

Bucky felt you hesitate, there was no way anyone could sleep through that kid bouncing around and loud-whispering. He had kept still and listened to your conversation, the thought of you wanting him to sleep more warming his heart, seeing as he never had anyone worry about him like that but Steve. 

He felt you squirm in his grasp, smiling at how you struggled to lift his arm with out waking him. Just as you were about to succeed he decided he needed to throw a wrench in your plans. With, what he thought was very convincing acting on his part, he grumbled and threw his other arm around your waist pulling you into him, his leg twisting around your own. Though he couldnt contain his laughter when you squeaked under him.

“Bucky? Are you awake?” You asked muffled under his shoulder.

Bucky nodded as he nuzzled his face into your neck, “yes I am.” he murmured. He felt you shiver and pulled back smirking, “that do something for you?”

Your eyes widened and you shook your head, “NOO!” 

Bucky’s smirked turned into a grin, “oh? No? Hmmm...” he dropped his head back down and blew warm steady breath under your  earlobe. This made you whimper, your hands clutching at his back and hips squirming. “Shit..” he groaned feeling himself harden as you squirmed. He had only wanted to mess with you, but now...he looked down at you. Your lips were parted and you panted under him, you dragged your bottom lip between your teeth as you looked up at him pupils dilated.

With a low growl he crashed his lips into yours, his hips grinding down hard against your own. You tilted your head up to meet his kiss, meeting his hips with your own. He was driving you on with the noises he made, his tongue slipping along your lips, till you parted them and he moaned at the sweet taste of you as his tongue swept against yours, massaging and exploring, lips rough and demanding. 

You moaned as he kissed you, but what he was doing with his hips was absolute sin. His hands slid down your hips and hooked your knees so he could jerk your legs around his waist. You gasped as he pressed his hard on against your core, your thin sleep shorts and his grey sweats the only thing between you two. He thrust his hips again, groaning as you dug your nails into his back. “Bucky..” you breathed. 

Bucky caught your bottom lip between his teeth biting down til you yelped, his hips rolling into yours causing a delicious friction. “Y/N...I want this with you every morning..please...say yes,” Bucky bit out, voice full of lust and want. You moaned as he bit down onto your neck, sucking till he knew he had marked you. “Baby...”

“Yes, Bucky...yes!” you gasped as he began sucking hard at your neck yet again.

Bucky groaned, God he wanted to feel you, wanted to bury himself deep inside of you. Just then he heard the sound of feet running back up the stairs and he rolled off you just as the door opened, Max sticking his head in. “Is Bucky awake yet?” he asked in a whisper.

You couldn’t talk for a moment and he repeated his question a little louder. You forced yourself to sit up, “uhm...I think he will wake up in a little, c’mon...” you crawled out of the bed, looking over to see Bucky had his back to you and wasn’t moving. You knew he would need a few to regain any form of control. You knew you needed it, but Max was starting to chatter about the T.V. show he had found and it had superheroes, of course none as cool as the Hulk. Where was Steve?

Shutting the door behind you a hand on Max’s back you made your way downstairs, brain still malfunctioning completely overheated. Max sat on the couch and looked over asking if you were making pancakes? You nodded as Steve came in the front door. 

Steve smiled pulling his earbuds out as he came in. Dressed in running gear, he walked by Max and ruffled his hair as he opened the fridge door and grabbed a water bottle. 

“Uhm, I told Max I would make him pancakes, would you like some?” You asked.

Steve smiled, “I would love some! Everything you need is in that cupboard and fridge is free as well, use whatever you’d like yeah?” You nodded and reached into the cupboard, “Glad to see you agreed to be Bucky’s girlfriend, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen him this happy.”

You turned to look at him as he perked an eyebrow at you, his blue eyes zeroed in on your neck. You felt your face begin to burn and you grabbed a spoon out of the drawer. Sure enough right below your jawline were two nice red marks.

What they don’t tell you when deciding on doing your first Ironman.

Once you have been bitten by the endurance bug, some of us decide to go for the holy grail in Triathlons; the Full Ironman distance of 3,8km swim, the 180km on a bike followed by the full marathon.  Most people will never experience anything like this and many of us are attracted by the dream that is presented by the marketing guru’s of IronMan and Challenge alike.  After realizing it will take a good 6 months of training - and clearing that with those around you such as your family that won’t see you anymore on most weekends as you will be out training somewhere - you decide to go for it.

The average Full Ironman distance registration fee is just under US$ 1,000.  This gives your between 8 to 17 hours of suffering on race day and about 400  lonely training hours which will cost you another US$ 1,000 or more in coaching fees. Throw in your travel at US$ 500 - 2,000 (domestic or international travel) and your physio due to some injuries, bike maintenance, outfits, wetsuits, new shoes and you are on a roll financially. And since we are already digging deep lets make sure we have top bike gear for at least another US$ 5,000 to get us over the finish line. Yes, triathlons can be one of the most expensive sports i know that does not involve engines or live animals (although sometime the athletes are difficult to distinguish)  For this  investment,  you get the satisfaction knowing that you have an “Iron Will” (TM) according to IronMan promo video’s, are a focussed achiever in life, get a trinket medal and bragging rights for life.  In other words, you can set your mind to ZERO and just keep going and going like the Energizer Bunny only to prove that you can be part of the “elite” finishers. The entire dream has been pre-created and is echoed by many triathletes, especially those who have never done an Ironman.

Ironman is indeed all in the mind. and the less you use your mind the easier it becomes because the more your grey cells start wondering if that strange feeling in your calf could become the end of your race, the more likely it will happen.  Unlike in the game of golf where your mind is like a roller coaster because you earn instant satisfaction of a great shot and depression after a flunked one, Ironman has not much to offer along the way.  Somehow it is boring as you are not really racing but controlling mind and body to keep the pace at max.  Its easy to slack off as your mind wonders off and lowers the pace. A simple pass of a biker or runner  might bring you back to your senses, but you know that at some point that person is likely to do the same to you as we all vary in pace at different times. Ironman is the ultimate race not against yourself, but against your mind and of course your training.

What is interesting is how the mind works on long distances.  I am sure the body fuels some of the thought but in the end, I noticed that the things around me, or rather distracting me, are the ones that keep me going.  I find myself riding and worrying about my knee when it started feeling tight and since my muscles are getting sore, the next thought is about how to even start the run and complete that full marathon. Suddenly my attention is grabbed by a pothole I need to avoid, then I notice the scenery which I vividly enjoy and promptly I am back in good shape.  This - in various forms - happens numerous times.   Aside from that, we are being bombarded with quotes like “this too, will pass”, “just get this over with” and “just take it as another training day”  But we know that once we are in those final kilometers everything will be forgotten and emotion with “I did this” will draw us past the finish line for a few seconds of fame as they call our name as we approach the famous red carpet.  Yes, me too i have dreamed many times of hearing the words, “Marcel; you are an Ironman”. Or so I thought.

But let’s backtrack a little to discuss the months before the race, and start with the training plan.  First, the excitement fuels the first phase your training, where you have to relearn the way you run and bike.  This is where you start to go long and easy, doing things differently and of course enjoy waking up at 6am every day to get that part out of the way. It was fun seeking my hotels during my many business trips and qualify them as “training Hotels”  Who has the right pool size, or a park where we can run.  I even blogged about it in Trip Advisor and rated some hotels purely on Triathlon training capabilities.    The next stage that follows about 3 months inwards was that of fatigue.  The training gets boring, your body is getting tired and your mind is looking for excuses. It was getting harder  to wake up and getting sleep was deemed a higher priority leaving the trainings to the evening with work distractions on your mind and finding every shortcut along the way.  It was getting truly tough.  This is also the period where suddenly minor injuries creeped up such as rotor cuff pains making swimming a real struggle for me.  What followed was logical; depression.  the “I am not ready” phase slowly overtakes and you wonder why no progress what made for weeks  until something makes you realize you are really full of shit and gets you out of that cycle.  My great friend and triathlete Daniel Schwalb, who actually got me on a bicycle 8 years ago that started this madness, and dragged me to my first sprint, reminded me during my whining and ranting about the famous Rule#5 of the Velominati ; “Harden the F@&* up!”.

From there on you are just 6-8 weeks out and you are getting excited again.  This is where you do you long (and super boring) bricks, runs and rides and realize that after each training you have plenty of energy left.  Recovery feels like a breeze and the 70.3 distance feels like a run in the park.  Its an amazing feeling of fitness strength.  At this point you are cautious to avoid any kind of injury as you have come this far already, then in the Taper weeks you wonder if this is the right  thing to do and why you should’t push for that last bit… but I believed in my Coach Tabitha Bond and she was just spot on on what would work for me.

On race day i had no clue if I was going the complete this and the only thing I had going for me was to believed Tabitha that I was ready.  My conservative estimates came out to 16 hours so i would have an hour to spare before cut off.  I had never ran a marathon before the IM, not even during the training where it stopped at 35km.  I had no clue what to expect next.  The horn sounded, and the familiar swim battle, took place.  It would be a 1,9km swim around the 1,8 km long Jetty and back.  I took an easy pace with long strokes, focussed on my rotations and lightly added my legs to pivot.  I made sure I stayed the course (straight) which did not always work as planned, but it was good enough, and the “with sighting” drills paid off.  after the u-turn around the jetty the adrenaline kicked in again that made me care less about the chafing caused by the wetsuit.  I got close, hit the beach and started making my way to transition… A guy next to me asked for the time (I had decided beforehand not to care as it is what it is) and saw 1:15. I was amazed and happy and dashed to T1… I was on a roll and felt great!.  Once on the bike I knew I had decided on a conservative safe pace (28kmph) and just kept it for 6:30 hours making sure I focused on my nutrition above all.  I ate, I drank, stopped to pee and I peddled. There is really little excitement in this part of the race at all (and I love cycling!). Arrived in T2, I seriously start worrying about the bike-to-run which has caused me and others great trouble in the past for many kilometers. Again a glimpse on the watch and it showed a flat 8:00 total time whilst dashing out of the transition. That would leave me a whopping 9 hours to finish the run.  OMG!  The smile continued and the run was smooth from the beginning short of some minor pains in the lower abdomen, nothing i couldn’t manage. After 10k of mainly conservative running with some short brisk walks I checked for the first time my Heart Rate which to my amazement was 112!  I cursed myself for being conservative and had limitations in my mind and picked up the pace from there.  I stopped for a Red Bull after 20km and kept increasing the pace.  I was going to be early!  It was getting dark and cold now. At 40km a pain hit my knee and despite all efforts, running was over.  but who cared! Yes this added 20-30 minutes to my time but I was well within my race targets and only this joint, not the rest of the body, was giving me a sign of struggle.  Now here in the story I will add that I weighed 104kg at the start of the race.  As a heavy set and overweight (and medically borderline obese with a BMI of 36) athlete my knees are obviously suffering.  Moving close to the finish the familiar thought of making sure you look good for the photo started coming and once the carpet was in sight, I high five’d my way to the finish line.  The victory was bitter sweet despite arriving 2 hours ahead of my expected scenario.

What happened next you don’t hear about either.  I read in an article that during an Ironman, an Age Grouper research has shown that many of the organs age by about 40years in comparison during the race.  It recovers in just a few weeks but it takes a hit.  For me I could no longer read my phone text without glasses which thankfully restored within a day.  I also had bladder issues where I could not hold my pee for a long time - Ithis recovered as well but took about a week.  Wether that was because of the salt intake or a combo of others I will leave to the scientists.  my knee recovered in just days and after a week I started some simple training again.

As today I am an Ironman and for that I feel proud,  However, I don’t feel as gratified as I would expect myself to be.  I felt like going for a super long walk, not a race of any kind.  Maybe unless you are in a higher league of racing, but a 70.3 offers all the right excitement for a triathlon. the Full only offers your the right to show you are physically awesome, at a huge cost on your body, family and finance.  When asked, would i do it again…… Yeah sure, but then race at your peak all the way.

Dependent Adult (19 years old) 2. Full - time student, no college insurance. 3. No insurance for 6 months now. 4. Not employed. I talked to a representative from the welfare office, (where my parents applied) and the lady (rudely) told me that because I am 19, and in school, I was terminated.
