Hello my friend! I've recently discovered your work for the frog boys and also saw you have requests open (if this isn't true anymore I'm terribly sorry!) I was wondering if you could write something about Pezzy (and maybe the rest of the frog house included if you want) playing horror games with his s/o? Have a good day!

Puffer (At Dead of Night)
Tumblr media
“This is stupid! All we’re doing is running from a bald guy,” I laughed as I controlled the movements in the game as we ran between rooms. Puffer had been asked to play At Dead of Night. Despite knowing he did not like horror games, he agreed as long as I was there for it. Neither of us had heard much of this game, and so far it was pretty boring. “Am I supposed to lock this door?”
“Maybe? Isn’t the guy chasing you?” Puffer answered as he leaned closer to the screen. He broke his glasses recently, so he was blind for this stream, and that’s the main reason he asked me to join. “Wait, why is that light flickering?”
“Like I know,” I scoffed as I immediately moved toward it. Nothing happened. “See chat, y'all just be hyping up this game, and it's plain.” I turned around in the game and jumped in my seat as some random person showed up. “Holy shit!”
“Dr. Bose was accused of the worst crime possible,” Puffer joked with mock seriousness. “We need to go to the ground floor now to see the police lights!” He took over the controls, again leaning close to the screen to see.
“Maybe you shouldn’t speed run out of the room,” I advised.
“Nah, we’ll be fine,” And almost like Jimmy was listening, he jumped out from around the corner to kill us. Puffer jumped back in his chair, causing it to fall back.
“What did I fucking say!?”
~~
Pezzy (Doors)
Tumblr media
“It’s Roblox. How scary can it possibly be?” were going to be my famous last words. I was sure of it.
“I swear to god if one more of these things pulls me out of the closet again, I will throw my controller at the screen!” I shouted as I died once again.
“Welcome to the club,” Pezzy laughed, “It only gets worse.”
“I’m going to cry,” I joked as I respawned. “This is literally torture! I did not agree to do this!”
“Yes, you did!” Leave it to Pezzy to pull up the receipts in the form of a text you sent him a while ago. He briefly showed it to the camera before clearing his throat, and imitating my voice, “I doubt it’s even that hard. I bet that I could speed run it faster than you.”
“I don’t remember saying that sober,” I admitted as I ran through the doors, ignoring Pezzy’s laugh. “I really don’t. In fact, I think a certain someone stole my phone and texted someone while we were drunk. I wouldn’t put it past you honestly.”
“I cannot believe you would accuse me of such a thing,” Pezzy gasped as he put a hand to his chest. “I seem to remember you bragging about not being scared of anything. You’re eating your words now, huh?”
“Never,” I said definitively. It didn’t last long as, almost immediately, the red skull thing chased me through the rooms. “I swear! PLEASE!”
~~
Droid (FNAF Help Wanted)
Tumblr media
“It’s not even that bad,” I laughed as I glanced at chat while Droid stood behind me playing Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted. I had played it before since I was practically a FNAF channel, so Droid made it his subgoal to play it when they hit 5,000 subs. Granted, he did not think it would happen that quickly. “Just wait until you get to the third game.”
“You’re kidding me!” He shouted as he frantically looked around the room. “There’s no way it gets worse than this! You’re capping!”
“Nah, you’re just a baby,” I laughed as a highlighted chat caught my eye.
“You should shove him.” it read. Thankfully, he could not read chat while in the game, so I took this as my opportunity. With a smirk, I stood up and walked around to stand behind Droid. Just as the music picked up in the game, I grabbed his shoulders and he was jumpscared. From me and the game as Bonnie jumped out at him.
He flung his arms back to try and drab me, but I ducked and ran back to my chair. He pulled the headset off and immediately glared at me. He let go of the joycons as he pointed and slowly approached me.
“I will murder you,” He joked as he leaned down to be at eye level with me. “I will threaten domestic violence live on Twitch.”
“Don’t threaten me with a good time,” I joked back as I raised my eyebrows.
“WOAH! WOAH! WOAH! Nah, don’t even!”
~~
Grizzy (GMod Horror Maps)
Tumblr media
“I don’t like the squidward-looking thing or the witches,” I cried as I ran my character through the dark maze. “Why did you mod them in?”
“Because I knew you didn’t like them,” Grizzy laughed as his character followed mine around. “I can remove one of them if you want.”
“Please do,” I laughed as I purposely let myself get killed by Squidward, so I would respawn. Grizzy exited the game to fix the mod as I stayed on the call with him, entertaining his chat. Eventually, he got it changed but did not tell me what he put in.
“Can I know what was spawned?” I asked as I reloaded the game. I had to update it since the mods changed, and I got stuck on the loading screen for a minute. I thought he would have told me at that point, but no. When I loaded into the game, I saw a hoard of witches immediately. I slowly looked over to Discord to see Grizzy’s face cam, and of course, he’s got that malicious smile. “I will murder you.”
“You always say you could outrun the witches,” Grizzy laughed as his character also loaded it. As soon as he spawned, he threw a bomb at the group. “I’m testing you.”
I screamed as I ran my character the opposite way through the maze, “What the fuck is wrong with you!”
“See!? It’s not so easy, huh?” Grizzly laughed as he watched my character run. ”What are you mumbling?”
“California girls were unforgettable,” I said a little louder than before as my voice got higher. “Daisy dukes bikinis on top.”

was cho friends with padma patil and/or other students of color when she was a hogwarts student or did she just stick with marietta?
Tumblr media
// aslk;jga listen, i am in looove with this question. all i ever wanna do is talk about the minor characters (they are also quite literally minorities) whom joanne wrote as throwaway characters but then just... decided to tokenize after people questioned her about diversity in the wizarding world. womp womp.
——— CHO HEADCANONS.
okay so to start, i do headcanon that members of ravenclaw house are generally pretty close with one another and, as a whole, they spend a lot of time together in the common room and have their own house parties for whenever something big happens (holidays, winning a quidditch match, designated mom friend penelope clearwater getting accepted to a fancy summer internship in the states, etc). they also just spend a lot of down time in the common space throughout the week. beyond that, though, i think cho definitely develops a deeper connection with other students of color, or at least has a quicker time doing so, because they’d have similar or shared experiences, being minorities in an overwhelmingly white school. cho becoming friends with these classmates usually just happens naturally. but having experienced a few comments or taunts about her racial background (in class, on the pitch, in passing), she is extra intentional about seeking out the younger students of color in her later years and introducing herself as a friendly face and confidant, in case they ever experience that antagonism and think there’s no one they can talk to about it. she's protective over the younger students in her house, and even more so when they are students of color, but this is something she extends to students in other houses, too!
( and a brief note on that: hogwarts is definitely not immune to bullying or antagonism revolving around racist stereotypes, and incidents about it have happened in every hogwarts house. it’s just not discussed as much (or at all, really) because 1. we read the series from harry’s pov, and harry doesn’t experience it because he is canonically white and 2. discrimination based on blood purity is more relevant to harry’s story. )
because we read things from harry’s pov, and he’s a gryffindor student with mainly gryffindor friends, he’s not fully aware of the dynamics in other houses. at some point, i think in OotP, he makes an observation that cho’s surrounded by less friends than she was usually around earlier in the series. we see cho with marietta a lot because cho is a fiercely loyal friend and, when a majority of the students turn on marietta for exposing the DA, cho is one of the only people who sticks by marietta (umbridge was threatening her mother! it’s a lot more complicated than marietta just snitching on them unprompted!! i will vent about this another time!!!). cho doesn’t hide her decision to stand by marietta at all. but the main point is, harry doesn’t see the dynamic in the ravenclaw common room, and that’s where cho interacts with a lot of the other students in her house (who are, by the way, very supportive of her throughout the aftermath of the third task, but i mean. they’re students, still. they have other things to focus on, too, and cho doesn’t fault them for that.)
and for some of the students in particular— a thousand times yes, cho is friends with padma patil! padma and cho bond over things like being second/third-generation immigrants and cringing at how over-the-top south asian/east asian muggle dramas are and discussing potential benefits in applying eastern medicine and holistic health practices to wizarding healing care. ravenclaws have a diwali celebration every fall, and padma always calls dibs on doing the henna for cho's hands. through padma, cho’s also friendly with parvati (and, by extension, lavender brown, who’s actually quite similar in personality to marietta); they all got ready for the yule ball together! when cho was considering not wearing the cheongsam-inspired dress sent from her grandmother’s hometown (it seemed too showy! it didn’t seem like it was something one would wear to a yule celebration in scotland!), parvati was the one who was threatening to wear it herself if cho didn’t and kept talking about how it would be a shame to let a dress like that go to waste.
other bipoc students: there’s a conversation at some point (i think also in OotP) where ron refers to michael corner as “the dark one”, and while that could be a reference to michael’s sense of humor or his personality, i’ve always taken it quite literally and headcanon that michael is a student of color, possibly black. (just my headcanon, though, and it’s totally fine if people who write michael corner portray him as white! the same goes for lavender; i also headcanon her as black.)
cho is most likely friendly with angelina johnson and alicia spinnet, and after the ravenclaw vs. gryffindor games, they compliment each other and swap quidditch tips and offer hair care routines and discuss life things as they’re all cooling down in the locker rooms.
she doesn’t have many interactions with lee jordan, dean thomas, or blaise zabini (the other students of color joanne mentions more than once that i can think of off the top of my head). i headcanon a few of cho’s ravenclaw teammates as being students of color, too.

Big Bad Bruin (Tierna Davidson) 1
Tumblr media
(re-upload wow hello first fic i ever wrote)
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
Prompt: R is called back to USWNT for the 2019 January training camp after a year off for healing an injury. R is a forward but is basically a little Naeher with her aggression and stoic behavior, that is until she meets someone who makes her stutter.
Anon requested Tierna with no specifics so I just kind of .. went with it?
Word Count: 4700ish (I seriously don’t know WHY it is so long, sorry..)
Readers POV:
A year ago, an ankle injury kept me off the field and out of the January USWNT camp and the 2018 Shebelieves Cup. This year however, they’d have to physically pull me off the field if they wanted to keep me from playing.
“Little Naeher!” A familiar voice shouted, sprinting over to me. As soon as I felt the hands on my shoulders and the weight thrown against me, I knew it was the USWNTs personal flying squirrel who was the first person to spot me.
“Hey Kels.” I chuckled, unwrapping the defender from my body.
“Y/N, you can’t just let me hug you once?” Kelley pouted in response from being removed from me, crossing her arms.
“I might let you hug me but flying squirrel tackling me is another story. Now stop pouting, when you look like that it’s hard to believe that Mallory is the baby and not you.” I just chuckled now as Kelley narrowed her eyes and stuck her tongue out at me.
“Actually Tierna is the baby now, Mal has got a few month’s on her. It’s nice to have you back kiddo.” The newest person to spot my appearance was Alyssa who gave me a signature side hug and ruffled my hair. Immediately my hand went up to flatten out my hair and I gave the keeper a little side glare, causing a rare full laugh from her. Hair taken care of, my attention switched to Naeher’s words.
“I forgot about Davidson.” I muttered, thinking about the young defender who had made her first cap after my ankle injury.
“Oh yeah, you get to play with T for the first time ever. She’s a peach!”
“A peach, O’hara? That is the most Georgia thing I’ve ever heard you say. Now come on, it’s time to get on the field! Oh and hey Y/N, glad you’re back.” Carli ushered us forward, clearly itching to start the 11v11 game we’d been working towards all practice. I inclined my head towards her in thanks before jogging onto the pitch. Kelley grinned wide as a Cheshire cat when captain tossed her the penny and I smirked in return, playing against Kelley was sure to be one hell of a way to get back in the swing of the USWNT.
—-Third Person—-
Y/N was electric on the field and Tierna couldn’t keep her eyes off of her. Even paired with the vets, the twenty two year old was a powerful force. Her ball control and speed was clearly a force to be reckoned with, playing some sort of zipper game with Christen as they raced around the field. Tierna held her breath watching as the forward engaged with Kelley, the two small girls locked in a tense battle for the ball as their teammates gave them a large breadth.
“Conflicted on who to cheer for over there, Baby T?” Tierna nearly jumped out of her skin when Moe popped up beside her. The jump and the startled look on the Stanford players face sent Moe into a fit of laughter, earning a light slap from the younger girl.
“You scared the heck out of me! Also, yes actually. I mean I almost always cheer for Kelley because wel-”
“She’s your role model? Yes, we know.” Moe cut her off, waving a hand dismissively.
“Yes, exactly. Seeing Y/N out there against her though, she’s incredible.” Tiernas focus was completely back on the field, watching as AD tentatively went to Kelley’s aid.
“Oh definitely, I think we all forget that you two have never played together.” Moe was of course referencing the recent soccer year where Tierna had made her first cap while Y/N was out on an ankle injury, thus keeping the two girls from playing together.
“Is she always so aggressive?” Tierna asked, watching as Y/N found her way out of the trap the two defenders had placed her in. With a quick move around Kelley, the forward was back on her feet and moving quickly towards Naeher. The two players’ facial expressions seemed to mirror one another as the young girl slid past Becky, managing to get the ball to Press who had seemingly appeared out of nowhere.
“Absolutely, it’s scary to be on the other side of for sure. We don’t call her little Naeher for nothing, their mannerism is one and the same.” Moe informed Tierna who was, of course, still entranced by the game. When the ball managed to slip past Naeher’s glove, even Tierna found herself on her feet cheering. The stop in play led to a water break and the water break led to substitutions.
That is how Tierna found herself in her current situation. The Stanford player had taken Kelley’s place at center back and was now staring at the side of Y/N’s head as she stood reading the field. From here, Tierna could see the depth of concentration in the forwards eyes and it chilled her to the bone.
When a strong kick from Carli sent the ball flying past Julie, both of the girls kicked into gear. Tierna quickly darted forward, her chest nearly colliding with Y/N’s shoulder as she raced towards the ball. Seeing the opportunity, Tierna burst upward. Sadly, Y/N saw the opening and the small girl threw herself into the air. Moments later, the ball was forgotten about and both girls had fallen to the grass. The girls heights had played against them as smaller Y/N’s forehead collided with the side of 5’10 Tierna’s jaw.
“Holy shit, are you kiddin-” Y/N had pulled herself to her feet, cursing internally and a little externally. She was about five seconds from chewing her teammate out for the misplaced header until her eyes locked with a pair of unfamiliar, shockingly stormy eyes. Still on the ground, Tierna blinked up at the older player, her mouth hanging open as if she had something to say but with nothing coming out.
“Fuck, I’m so sorry. That was so sloppy on my part, you had a clean jump.” The apology, and the curse word, came tumbling out of Y/N’s mouth before she could stop it. Underneath her the freckled defender blushed a bright red, at the apology or the position she wasn’t sure. Before she could accept the forward’s extended hand, a loud gasp was heard and a wide eyed Julie came storming across the field.
“Uh-oh…” Tierna whispered as a wide eyed Y/N was brought face to face with the blonde midfielder.
“I know you did not just hurt the baby and then CURSE at her!” Julie’s hand was wrapped tight around the collar of Y/N’s royal blue practice jersey, putting the two girls’ chest nearly touching. However this didn’t last for long as the girl seemed to regain the composure she had lost after colliding with Tierna. Bringing a strong hand up, Y/N removed Julie’s fist from her jersey but she didn’t step away. In fact, Tierna gulped from her spot on the ground as Y/N stepped even closer to Julie so that their noses were almost touching.
“Firstly, I didn’t curse at her, I cursed in general. Secondly, she’s twenty, Julie Beth, I think she can handle me saying fuck.” Julie’s eyes were wide as saucers as her friend and teammate stared her down, not blinking once. Seeing the aggressive energy Moe had mentioned earlier first hand sent chills through Tierna’s body. There was something about watching the older girl treat her as something other than the team’s baby that made her heart feel like it was going to beat out of her chest. The sounds of cleats on the ground separated Julie and Y/N, the former almost shaking like a leaf.
“Damn Y/N/N, you’re back for barely two hours and you hurt one teammate and accidentally scare the fu- heck, scare the heck out of the other.” Dunny laughed, slinging an arm around Julie’s shoulder who had now calmed down and was pouting. Crystal’s words made Y/N spin on her heels though, her bright eyes focusing on Tierna who was still in the grass.
“You’re not hurt are you? I didn’t hurt you right?” Her eyes continued to scan Tierna up and down, eyes raking over her body and making Tierna blush even brighter.
“N-no, I’m uh, I’m fine. Just gonna have a little bruise.” Y/N had reached her hand out again and this time Tierna took it, clumsily stumbling to her feet and making Y/N giggle a little as she tried to find her footing. The interaction was not missed by the teammates closest to them as Lindsey immediately turned to Rose with wide eyes.
“Did Y/N/N just giggle? Did I hear that right?” Lindsey whispered and Rose nodded her head up and down so quickly that she looked like a bobble head. Naeher also noticed it from the goal and threw her ‘mini me’ a confused look. Y/N, realizing her slip up, coughed and looked at the ground as she shuffled her feet, fighting a blush.
“See, she’s fine. Can we please get back to the game? I really wanna get back to beating Julie’s ass.” Her spunk and sass was back as quickly as it left and with wide eyes, Julie broke into a grin as the girls set back out onto the field. Tierna jogged to her spot, shaking her head to try and clear the thought of the muscular forward standing over her out of her head.
————
That night, the girls were settled in Kelley and Sonnett’s room. Why was it that Jill decided it was a good idea to room Frat Daddy and Frat Daddy Jr. together? The team may never know. However, it certainly made a good spot to do team bonding.
Ashlyn and Ali had launched into a Krashlyn level argument about dog names, receiving input from Rose of course since dogs were the topic of conversation. Lindsey and Mal were telling some sort of very animated story to the rest of the team who were all watching in either interest or confusion. And, as per usual, Y/N was late.
“Guys?” Tierna finally asked after Mal had finished her tangent, gaining the attention of her teammates.
“What’s up kiddo?” Kelley asked, throwing her arm around the shoulder of the team’s baby.
“Why isn’t Y/N here?” Rose suddenly wasn’t focused on the topic of dogs, Lindsey stopped telling her story, and Alyssa’s attention strayed from her phone.
“Oh, you can always count on her to be late.” Alex laughed from the other side of Kelley and the rest of the team laughed or agreed. Tobin explained that that’s why they hadn’t actually started team bonding yet because well, it wasn’t bonding if the whole team wasn’t there.
“Why are you so worried about her being late?” Mal asked in typical nosey Mal fashion. Tierna’s eyes went wide and her face flushed as she opened and closed her mouth.
“Nothing, no reason, just wondering.” The words stumbled out of her mouth and she knew full and well that none of her teammates believed her.
“Wait a minute, baby T, you don’t have a cr-”
“NO!” Immediately, Tierna cut off Casey, not letting the woman finish her sentence. Most of the team awe’d and Tierna mentally cursed herself for even asking in the first place.
“Awww baby Stanford has a crush on our big bad Bruin.” Kelley cooed, pinching at Tierna’s cheek who slapped her hand away. The slap wasn’t playful though, it connected with a solid whack and the team grew dead silent. Kelley stared at her hand in shock and Tierna started to stutter out an apology when the hotel door opened.
“I know y’all are used to me being late so what’s up los- why are y’all silent?” Y/N looked around the hotel room in confusion, all eyes still on Tierna.
“Tierna?” Y/N questioned gently, very confused by the situation she had walked into. Suddenly, Tierna was on her feet and brushing past Y/N, heading out the door. She watched the tall girl flee the room, face bright red. The gentle expression Y/N had watched Tierna with was gone now as she turned on her teammates with fire in her eyes.
“What the hell did y’all do.” She hissed, her eyes scanning the guilty faces. Ultimately, they landed on Kelley who couldn’t even meet her eyes.
“We were just joking with her Y/N, she wa-”
“No, I don’t care. Clearly Tierna didn’t think whatever you were talking about was funny. Did you all not see how hurt she looked?”  Stalking over to Rose, she held out her hand which Rose timidly placed her hotel room key into. Turning on her heels, Y/N headed out of the room to go talk to the team’s youngest player.
When the door slammed behind her, the team let out a collective breath that most of them hadn’t even noticed they were holding.
“Holy shit.” Casey said, eyes locked on the door. Most of the girls muttered something similar or some form of agreement.
“I have never seen her get so defensive.” Kelley said, gaining her teammates attention. “I mean, we’ve all seen her get angry before because it happens all the time like on the field today but that, that was defensive.”
“Lyssa, what was that?” Mal directed the teams attention towards Y/N’s self declared mentor who was staring off deep in thought as she often was.
“I don’t know.” Naeher admitted, clearly still partially stuck in thought. “I mean the only time I’ve ever seen her get this defensive was over Fleming that one time when Pugh said something about Canad-”
“Wait.” Mallory cut off Naeher, a terrible thing to do in most situations but tonight was proving not to be a normal night for the USWNT. “Fleming. Like, Jessie Flemming? That was who she got defensive over?”
“Yeah, why?” Alyssa questioned, tilting her head to the side like a puppy. Matter of fact, most of the team looked like that at the moment.
“Oh shit!” Jane gasped, connecting the dots. The team turned towards the bleach blonde goalie who was sitting with her hand slapped over her mouth. “That’s who she was talking about after that friendly with Canada.”
“What? She was talking about a girl?” Pinoe was now intrigued, confused as to why their assumedly straight teammate was talking about Flemming.
“Oh my god, do we have to spell it out for you? I thought the gays were supposed to be able to sense each other or something.” Mal was met with a pillow to the face from Kelley and a few pointed looks from some of her teammates.
“I’m just saying,” Jane started, ignoring Mal’s comment, “that the last person that Y/N got defensive over was Jessie Flemming, aka the Canadian player that she had a huge crush on.
“A crush on?!” Kelley screeched, nearly flying from the couch. Krashlyn were both staring wide eyed, Preath both had their jaws nearly on the floor, and Pinoe was a combination of everyone else.
“Y/N is gay?” Ali finally asked. The younger girls were looking at the vets like they were idiots seeing how the forwards sexuality wasn’t something she hid.
“Wait, bro, no, wait.” Sonnet was the one connecting the dots now, which of course meant everyone else must have been really slow for Emily to beat them to the punch. “She got defensive over Flemming because she had a crush on her and now she just got crazy defensive over Baby T.”
“Holy shit, Y/N has a thing for Tierna.”
——
After a brief moment of trying to find the right room, Y/N raised her fist and knocked on Tierna’s hotel room door.
“Go away Kelley, I don’t want to talk about it.” The reply was muffled but clear and made Y/N’s face drop a little. She wasn’t sure whether to be amused that Tierna thought that it would be Kelley of all people coming to check on her or upset that she didn’t think it would be her. Though, it is probably fair she didn’t think it would be her as the two girls had only met officially for the first time today. Of course, Y/N knew Tierna. A player like her was hard to forget and after the UCLA loss to Stanford, Tierna’s face was burned into her memory. However, she wasn’t sure she was complaining.
Knocking once more, she put in the key card and unlocked the door. Pushing it open slowly, she stepped into the room while narrowly dodging a pillow thrown at her head.
“Kels, I said I don’t want to talk about it or her or any- oh shit.” Tierna’s eyes went wide when she saw Y/N standing infront of her and not the other little defender she had been expecting. The older girl on the other hand let out a full laugh.
“I’m sorry.” Tierna muttered, suddenly very interested in picking at her fingernails.
“No, no, it’s fine. I just, I don’t think that was a very Baby T appropriate word.” Y/N giggled and Tierna felt all the blood rush to her face. The older girls laugh was light and airy and it certainly didn’t help an embarrassed Tiernas beating heart.
“God, please don’t tell Julie.” Tierna buried her face in her hands as Y/N made her way into the room.
“I won’t, she’d probably say it’s my fault for being a bad influence.” When Tierna risked a glance up, there was a mischievous sparkle in Y/Ns eye that paired too well with the smirk on her face. “Can I sit?” She asked, motioning to the bed beside Tierna and she simply nodded in response, still not really trusting her voice.
“So,” Y/N started, flopping down onto the bed beside Tierna, laying on her back and staring at the white ceiling. “What’s wrong?” Tierna sighed and flopped backwards too, mimicking the other girl’s position.
“Nothing, the girls were just bullying me.” She admitted, staring off into the distance.
“About?” Panic set in for Tierna when Y/N asked the question. How was she supposed to even respond to that?
“Um, nothing important.” It was a blatant lie and clearly Y/N thought so too as she rolled to her side and propped her head up on her hand, staring at the side of Tierna’s face.
“I think you’re lying.”
“You do?”
“I do. You mentioned a ‘her’ when I walked into the room so something tells me that there is something or well, someone, very important taking up space in that big ol brain of yours.” Y/N said, reaching out and lightly flicking the side of the defenders head. Tierna furrowed her eyebrows and turned onto her side so she was facing Y/N now as well.
“Big ol brain, huh?”
“Don’t change the subject, tell me about this mysterious her.” Y/N was dead set on finding out about this mystery girl in Tierna’s life because frankly she was worried that this girl was going to ruin any chance she had with the forward before she even got to try.
“You’re not letting this go are you?” Tierna pouted and Y/N flashed her a signature smirk.
“Nope.”
“Um, fine.” Tierna racked her brain, trying to think of how to say what she wanted to say without exposing herself. “I mean, she isn’t really anyone to me.”
“She isn’t? So like, no girlfriend problems or anything?” The younger girl flushed bright red at the word girlfriend. By no means did she hide her sexuality but she certainly didn’t expect to be somewhat called out on it.
“Um, no, not girlfriend problems. I don’t have a girlfriend.” Something about her admitting that made Y/N smile, though she tried to conceal it for the sake of the other girl.
“So, a crush?”
“I guess you could call it that.” Tierna admitted. Y/N furrowed her brows a little but unlike when she had furrowed them and yelled at Julie earlier, there was no anger on her face, just confusion. The look was enough to somehow prompt more words to come fumbling out of the klutzy girls mouth.
“I mean I don’t know if I can call it a crush? It’s just, I don’t know her super well. We only met recently but she seems super cool and she is just like, gorgeous I guess.” Y/N smiled and nodded her head in understanding as Tierna explained the situation.
“I get that, I’ve been there before actually.” The admittance seemed to get Tiernas interest but Y/N didn’t want to be the topic of conversation at the moment.
“Really?”
“Yes really, with an old teammate actually but we don’t need to talk about me right now. What is this crush of yours like? Does she play soccer or did you meet her at Stanford or what? Would I know her?” Y/N fired off questions and Tierna looked for a path out, desperately needing a way to navigate this war path. However her mind was stuck on what Y/N had said about the crush she had on an old teammate. An old teammate meaning someone she played soccer with. Meaning a woman. Oh thank god.
“Um, yeah you’d know her so that’s why I would rather not say who it is but yeah she plays soccer.” Tierna figured there was no harm in admitting a little bit and she could watch as the gears in the other girls head seemed to visibly turn as she tried to figure out who it was.
“Who does she play for?”
“Um…” Not being able to find an answer she stuttered and Tierna could see her make the connection.
“Oh my God, it’s a teammate!” Y/N exclaimed, her eyes lightning up. She prayed that outwardly she was putting on a good show but internally she was cursing the idea of Tierna thinking about one of the other girls. Was it Mal? Sonnett?
“Yeah but like please don’t freak out over it, it’s not a big deal and I’m not going to do anything about it and-” Reaching out and putting a finger to Tierna’s lips, she effectively shushed her rambling. Once again the freckles that covered her face were now placed onto a bright red background and as Y/N pulled away her finger she tried to ignore the softness she felt against it.
“Sorry, you were rambling. Why won’t you do anything about it?” She questioned, not understanding why the gorgeous girl in front of her wouldn’t go after the person she liked without a reason. “I mean unless she’s straight or lik- Wait! Shit, she isn’t married or something is she? I mean I wont judge but babe that’s a whole other situation…” Y/N trailed off as she saw Tierna’s eyes grow wide and the blush that had been on her cheeks consumed her entire face and neck.
“No! No. God, no. She isn’t married. I don’t even think she’s in a relationship but I don’t really know.” Y/N breathed a sigh of relief and for the first time, Tierna laughed, and when Y/N heard it she decided she had found her new favorite sound.
“Then why not do anything about it?”
“I don’t think she’d like me back.” Tierna had turned her focus to her fingernails at this point, picking at her cuticles to the point that they would almost certainly bleed later.
“Then she’s stupid.” With three words, Y/N effectively captured Tierna’s entire attention.
“What did you say?” She asked, now looking up with big bright eyes at the other girl.
“I said if she doesn’t like you back, then she’s stupid.” Being met with silence, Y/N decided to continue. “I mean come on, you’re a fucking superstar. You have the prettiest freckles and your eyes are so stunning they even rival Christens. Looks aside, if she’s a soccer player then I don’t know how she isn’t falling for you simply because of your skills.” The spheil was much more emotional than Y/N normally got and she glanced down at the younger girl who was staring at her with watery eyes.
“Hey, no. Don’t do that! No crying, come here.” Turning onto her back, she scooted up against the headboard and pulled Tierna into her chest. The defender tensed at the sudden touch but she didn’t pull away. Matter of fact, she nuzzled her head into the crook of the other girl’s neck and tried to blink away her tears.
“That was, that was really nice.” Tierna whispered. Above her, Y/N smiled. With precise movements she pulled the hair tie out of Tiernas hair and let her brown waves fall out to frame her face. Gently, Y/N began to run her fingers through the girls hair slowly.
“It’s just the truth Tierna, you’re an amazing person and an incredible player.” Her voice was at hardly a whisper now, not wanting to be loud right in the girls ear.
“You’ve hardly seen my play.” Tierna mumbled into Y/N’s neck and the older girl shivered at the vibrations it sent up her body, an action that didn’t go unnoticed by a slightly shocked Tierna.
“That’s actually not true. I’ve actually played against you before.” Lifting her head up slightly in surprise, the Stanford player looked up into the other girls eyes.
“There’s no way, I would have remembered that.” There was no way that Tierna could ever have forgotten a face like Y/N’s.
“I was a little different back then. It was the D1 Women’s Soccer Championship in 2017, it would’ve been your sophomore year. You little fuckers beat us by one goal and Kelley and Christen will never let me live it down. I’m not surprised you don’t remember, I know that was a crazy year for you.” Tierna was immediately running through memories of that game, lots of which were blurred due to the results of the afterparties with her teammates on campus. Until it hit her, the same way she had hit Y/N.
“Oh my God, I remember. I hit you with the slide tackle that cost you that first goal right before you came back and assisted Fleming on her goal. I completely forgot that you even play for UCLA!” Y/N’s eyes lit up that Tierna remembered the slide tackle and her assist.
“That’s right, I even have a little scar somewhere that proves that it was absolutely not a clean tackle no matter what that damn ref said or the people that named you the Pac-12 defender of the year.” She grumbled the last part but of course Tierna heard she was laying on her chest. They were quiet for a moment and then they both erupted into laughter.
“So see, I do know that you’re an amazing player. And I’m starting to learn that you’re a pretty amazing person too, any girl would be lucky to have you.” Y/N said softly, continuing to curl pieces of Tiernas hair around her fingers as she brushed through it gently.
“Any girl?”
“Any girl.”
And so they laid like that, only moving so that they could pull the blankets up over them at one point when Y/N started to get goosebumps and Tierna insisted she cover up. What Tierna didn’t realize was that the girls goosebumps weren’t caused by the cold. In the silence, both girls’ eyelids grew heavy and they started to drift slowly off the sleep. Before they could get there though, the young Stanford player whispered softly.
“Y/N?”
“Yes, Tierna?”
“I don’t see why you act so tough with the other girls.”
“I have a reputation to keep, love.”
“Maybe, but I don’t think you’re some big bad Bruin like they do.”
“You don’t?”
“Nope,” The younger girl cuddled in closer and Y/N smiled, pressing a soft kiss to the top of her head. “I just think you’re a big ol baby bear.” Tierna yawned.
“Maybe I am.” What Y/N didn’t add after that was - for you.
With that, the girls fell fast asleep, completely forgetting their teammates who were still sitting anxiously rooms away.
----
Y'all remember in 2020 when Tierna was healthy and living her best life and I wrote this? Yeah me too. Missing that!!!!!

summary : : sunoo tries to impress you with his barista skills
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
when sunoo sees you walk into the cafe, his heart stops. the biggest crush he's had since that curly haired boy in the 6th grade just walked through the glass door and he's the only person working. a whole nine hour shift and this exact moment is when jungwon decides to take a toilet break. sunoo isn't sure whether to praise jungwon or cuss him out.
you and your three friends walk towards him and sunoo has to remind himself to breathe.
it's not exactly unusual to for you to be at the campus cafe, not only are you a student but you also work here, but in sunoo's four months of employment here, you'd only ever once worked a shift with him and had never visited during his usual sunday shift.
breathe, sunoo, he tells himself before plastering on his brightest customer service smile and greeting your group. "hello, welcome to campus coffee! what can i get you guys?"
your tallest friend orders first. "can i get..."
and then the blonde one and the one with tiny dinosaurs hanging from her ears and then you.
"hi, sunoo," you say with a kind smile and sunoo's heart almost explodes.
"hi, y/n," he manages to reply without tripping over his words.
"i'll just get a regular cappuccino with an extra shot," you say.
unbeknownst to you or him, sunoo, still enthralled by your beauty, misses the cappuccino bottom on the screen and hits caramelised cappuccino instead. you pay then join your friends at the waiting area.
"i'll handle to cap and americano," sunoo tells jungwon returns from the bathroom, leaving the other two orders to him.
"cool."
as one of the most popular drinks these days, sunoo speeds through your friend's americano. now it's time for your drink. sunoo pauses, takes a deep breath and exhales, hands following the out breath in a sharpay evans-esque way. as his crush and the person who trained him on his first shift, sunoo desperately wants to impress you with his coffee making skills.
"let's do this," he whispers.
ground coffee into the portafilter. shot pot ready to collect. milk steaming. caramel fudge into cup. three espresso shots ready. into cup. mix with caramel. milk in. weigh. froth. chocolate powder on top. kiss of cream. lid. done!
sure that this is the best coffee he's ever mad yet still nervous, sunoo takes another deep breathe then carefully carries the cup to the collection bench. "y/n!" he calls out.
you walk over and take the drink from his hands. your fingers touch briefly. "thanks, sunoo," you say, smiling at him again.
"you're welcome," sunoo replies, heart rate at a million miles an hour.
"see ya!"
hand waving absent-mindedly, sunoo watches you away, admiring the shine and bounce of you hair. god, you're so beautiful. if only he knew how to tell you.
Tumblr media
"closing time!" jungwon shouts.
"okay!" sunoo sings back, moving around the counter to go lock the door.
but the bell above it rings before he makes it.
he stops. "y/n."
"sunoo," you say, equally as shocked to see him so quickly.
"we were just about to close. can i quickly get you something?"
"no no, i was just coming back to tell you that you did a really good job on my coffee today. i'm glad to see you've improved."
sunoo ducks his head to hide the instant smile that appears in response to your compliment.
"it wasn't what i ordered but it was a nice surprise."
his head shoots back up, eyes wide. "pardon?"
"oh," you say with a slight head tilt. "so you didn't mean to make it like that for me?"
"it was a caramelised cappuccino, right?" sunoo asks.
"that's what you gave me. i ordered a regular cappuccino, though, so i thought maybe you were trying to be nice. caramelised caps are an extra fifty cents, you know."
sunoo is horrified. if the ground spontaneously opened up and swallowed him whole he would thank it. how could he have messed up like this?
you see the terror on his face and rush to comfort him. "it's okay, though! it was really yummy. maybe you just put it in wrong at the register."
"i'm so sorry," sunoo says, bowing his head to you. "i'll refund you."
"no, it's okay! trust me! i've never had one before today and i really liked it. it's okay."
"are you sure?" sunoo asks, grimacing slightly.
"positive," you say.
"okay." sunoo racks his brain for something else to say to you, but before he can you're already heading back out the door.
"i'll leave you to close up then." you pause and turn back to sunoo. "are you working tomorrow?"
"yes."
you smile. "cool. i'll have to drop by. maybe you can surprise me again."
you wink and then you're gone, leaving sunoo and his tomato red face to stare wide-eyed at the floor, asking himself if that really just happened.

Do you want to keep your opinion or your knee caps?

A/N: So tHiS wAs A rEqUeSt- thank you to the anon who requested this! You'll notice that the duolingo owl meme has inspired the title of this and towards the end, I have Alex quote Lemony Snicket. I dont have much else to say except the list of prompts that I had pinned on my tumblr dashboard is now a link on my masterlist. Currently pinned is Will solace's birthday week prompts- I hope you guys enjoy this and please comment! <3 from persephone!!
Read on a03           Masterlist          WritersMonth 2021
“T- Jeff, Give that back right now!” Magnus yelled as the 6 pack of red bull- which he had slammed on his desk 10 minutes to midnight- was snatched away from his very eyes.
“Hell no!” his best friend shouted back. “ I’m not watching you throw away your health! Hey Sam- Back me up here!”
Samirah, who had only entered the dorm to steal another one of Magnus’s good pens which he had probably stolen from Alex or T-jeff, simply shrugged. “ I’m pretty chill if he wants to shorten his lifespan by a couple of decades.”
“Seee! That's what a good friend does- ignores all your terrible mistakes and lets you live your own life.”
Samirah, had taken a red bull from T-Jeff, because god help him if he had tried to stop her. “I’m not your friend.”
Now , you, the reader may be wondering- what on earth am I witnessing right now before my very eyes?
Allow me to kindly explain. What you are viewing is what is called the ‘ College phenomenon’. Currently, on the 19th floor of their dormitory building, Magnus Chase was about to drink 6 red bulls in an attempt to keep himself awake for the entire night; why would anybody do this to themselves, you may ask?
Because, college.
And in reality, Magnus had a very long project that- of course- was due tomorrow. Sure, his cousin Annbaeth was smart but even Annabeth left work to the very last minute. He could feel his head pounding from the previous caffeine consumed when he decided it would be a good idea to chug several espresso shots.
He could feel his boyfriends smirk as he entered the room. He felt slender arms wrap themselves around his neck as a tinge of green hair fell down to tickle his cheek. A warm cheek pressed against his, in a somewhat comforting manner.
“You look like shit,” Alex pointed out.
“Thanks, that’s exactly what I want to hear from my boyfriend,''Magnus grumbled. He frowned and suddenly, he felt a light peck on his lips.
“You’re cute when you’re grouchy.”
Despite his awfully foul mood, Magnus couldn't help but feel a small blush paint his cheeks and burn to the tip of his ears from hearing such a compliment- after all, he looked like shit (and felt like it) and yet here was his prim and gorgeous as ever boyfriend telling him that he looked cute.
“I came here to steal your stationary Magnus, not witness an awkward first date,” Samirah took another sip of the red bull.
Magnus pouted. “ How come you let her drink the red bull, but you don't let me?”
“Uh- Because she’s terrifying,” T-Jeff retorted.
“Thank you,” Samirah smiled, flicking her headscarf over her shoulder.
“And there’s no way I’m letting you drink all of those,'' Alex reminded Magnus.
T- Jeff continued, “ And he is also terrifying.”
Annoyed and frustrated, Magnus slammed his head directly onto his desk. He ignored the blearing pain that struck through his head like lighting due to the stupid hit. He ignored the annoying words that began to blur into one another as he drifted off to sleep- and perhaps he ignored -or, or maybe he didn’t notice- his boyfriend moving him to his bed and snuggling up next to him as they fell asleep.
The next morning, Magnus was semi surprised to find that he was A- in his bed, B- not suffering from a headache and C- lying down next to Alex. When did he even get into bed, let alone with Alex?
“Your staring is interrupting the quality of my sleep,” he groaned as he shifted himself slightly, resting his head on the blond’s chest.
“When did you get here?”
“And that's a question I never want to hear from you in the morning,” Alex mumbled, “ I put you to bed idiot- you’re sincerely welcome.”
Magnus felt a flush rising to his cheeks as he sat up. “ O-oh.”
Alex yawned as he grabbed Magnus by the arm and yanked him back down to the -let's be frank here- uncomfortable mattress of his dorm.
Soon they were both fast asleep, in each other’s arms; not aware of any of their surroundings or of Mallory snapping a photo of them.
“Delete it now!” Magnus cried as he tried to grab the phone from T-jeff who was currently showing off the photo that Mallory had sent the group chat.
While Alex seemed quite unfazed by it, it seemed to have caught the unwanted attention of all of their friends- therefore pushing Magnus into a very uncomfortable spotlight.
Magnus couldn’t help but feel like he was 15 again- out on the cold streets, people staring at him as he cowered away from the harsh glares, sympathetic whispers but no true hands being held out to help him. He couldn't stand the idea that every one was watching him, staring at him, talking about him. But this was infinitely worse because not only could they all be talking about him but they could also be talking about Alex.
He could feel his face burn as his friends laughed with innocent delight at the cute photo of the couple sleeping in each other's arms. His eyes were stinging, blurring together reality and his confused nightmare and maybe it was real or maybe it was his confused version of reality but he could have sworn to have seen a sliver of concern flash across Alex’s face.
“Delete the photo.” Her firm voice rang out. Magnus watched, half stricken with awe and the other half still shaken with fear, panic and misery.
“What?” T-jeff and the rest were confused. “ C’mon Alex, it’s just a cute picture of the happy couple.”
“The couple is no longer happy because of the photo- delete it.”
“You seem pretty happy to me.”
“Do you want to keep your opinion or your kneecaps?” Alex hissed, her eyes narrowed into slits, anger portrayed like the eye of a hurricane nearing the ocean- like a tornado near a lit splint. Nodding eagerly, they all agreed to delete the photo. Subtly calling for Magnus for some couple related reason, she managed to get them alone.
Bonus:
His hands came to cup Magnus’s face, the tears finally falling. None streamed down his face as he kept his head bowed slightly- hiding it from Alex.
What was he meant to say? How do you comfort a crying person?
“Was it really that bad?” Alex asked, trying to keep his tone soft. “ Did you really not like them taking photos of us?”
Magnus shook his head.
“I need you to talk to me, Magnus.”
“I… I didn’t like it.” His voice was meek, soft, and purely vulnerable; and as he slowly raised his head, Alex was all too stricken with the sight before him. Magnus’s eyes somehow still seemed gorgeous, red rimmed and shiny from the tears that befell from them. His cheeks were flushed, his ears tipped in red and his blond hair sheltering his face like a small child.
“Why?”
Magnus paused. He was hesitant to answer the question, after all- who wouldn't be nervous to tell their partner about all the previous trauma they’ve endured?
“It reminds me… of a bad time,” Magnus’s voice only seemed to get quieter. “ I..”
“You…”
“Iusedtobehomeless.”
Despite his innocent attempts to prevent Alex from understanding him, he felt two hands hold his face very gently and bring it closer to his boyfriend who stood before him. He felt uncomfortable as Alex burned his eyes at him. Their pupils locked onto one another and Magnus wasn’t sure whether he should look away or not.
“...What…?”
“I was just wondering if you had fallen down and broken your head in the process,” Alex thought aloud.
“What?” Magnus’s confused voice and expression was something Alex told himself he’d have to save in his head to view later.
“I’m not going to judge you because of the misfortune you’ve lived through. I’ll love you as misfortune loves orphans, as fire loves the innocent and as justice loves to sit down and watch everything go wrong,” Alex murmured as he placed a small kiss on Magnus’s nose.

(Y/N)’s P.O.V
Bonnie let himself in, nonchalantly taking off his peaky cap as he walked through. I quickly locked the door, rushing after him before something broke out between the boys (it was bound to happen). Standing in between them, I glanced at them both, hating how tense their shoulders were, the anger in their eyes towards each other.
“Bonnie, I’m so glad you’re alright.” I said, resisting the urge to hug him.“Has something happened?”
“No, just wanted to make sure you were OK over here.” his eyes never moved away from Finn’s face.
“I’m fine, it’s just Finn and I.”
“That’s why he’s come here.” Finn spat.“Thinks I’m gonna try something.”
“I’m safe, don’t worry Bonnie. But you might as well stay, you shouldn’t have come all the way here at this time of night. Especially after what happened to you both.”
“Thank you (Y/N).”
“Where’s he going to sleep?” Finn protested.
“Well, the only other space is in my bed.”
I enjoyed the scowl on Finn’s face, it almost made me smirk. After our break up, Finn brought many whores into his home and office, parading them in front of me. I would never resort to fucking random men to make him jealous, or to spite him; but this was too good of an opportunity to miss. And he had no reason or excuse to argue back.
“That’s fine with me.” Bonnie smiled.
“Good, because it’s late, and I need to sleep this whole thing off. Good night Finn.”
We left his shocked expression as we left for my bedroom, and I tried to keep calm as my heartbeat increased. I knew Bonnie would be respectful and he wouldn’t expect anything to happen. However, I hadn’t had someone sleep beside me in a long time. As he closed the door, I pulled him closer, hugging him tight against me. Letting out a relieved sigh, I squeezed him slightly, scared that he might be hurt.
“I was so worried.” I breathed out.
“I’m here, I’m safe.” he whispered, one arm wrapped around my lower back as his other hand was gently placed on the back of my head.
I pulled away, both of us keeping our arms on each other.“Have you seen your family?”
He nodded.“They know I’m alive.”
“I’m afraid I don’t have any spare clothes for you or Finn. I’m not sure how comfortable you’ll be.”
“Well, I sleep best in the nude but-”
I rolled my eyes at his cheeky grin.“If you want to sleep in a comfy bed, you’ll keep your clothes on.”
We fell into silence as we rounded each side of the bed, slowly slipping under the sheets. Of course I was a little nervous, but Bonnie was also hesitant. Perhaps he didn’t want to over step the boundaries that we had already crossed. Both of us were laying on our backs, looking up at the ceiling. A minute or so passed before Bonnie broke the silence.
“How come you didn’t let Finn in your bed?” he softly asked.
I sighed.“The trust I used to have for him just isn’t there anymore, not under these circumstances.”
“What do you mean?”
“For instance, if I was in some sort of danger, or a man started harassing me on a night out, then I wouldn’t doubt him stepping in. But he really hurt me. And how he acted after the breakup only rubbed salt into a fresh wound.”
I hear him move against the sheets, making my head lull to the side and seeing him facing me on his side.
“Isaiah told me about that. Said that Finn had women going home with him almost every night.”
I scoffed.“I was willing to be civil with him, to make work a little easier, you know? Especially since the Shelby’s have been so good to me, and we live so close to each other.”
“I suppose it’s hard to get rid of that label.”
“Of being Finn Shelby’s ex-girlfriend? Yeah, no one seems to take an interest anymore.”
“I did.”
Finn’s P.O.V
My hands clenched up into tight fists, hating how easily she was opening up to him...but also hating how much truth there was behind everything (Y/N) said. Sat beside the door (so they wouldn’t see my shadow under the door frame), I listened to everything as soon as it shut. It made my skin crawl to think that he was lying beside her, in the same spot as I was in; (Y/N) was particular to which side she slept on, it stayed the same for the whole time we were together, she had her side, I had mine, until we cuddled up to one another.
It suddenly went quiet, and after straining to hear anything, I figured that they finally went to sleep. Silently moving from my spot, I saw what I had ended up sleeping on, groaning as I collapsed onto it, knowing I would never get comfortable on it.
I was woken with something hitting my face, yelping as I bolted upright. Bonnie chucked the cushion he hit me with, though I caught it this time. My eyes were squinting from the natural light coming from the windows, and I could only just make out his silhouette as he walked away.
“What the fuck are you doing?” I moaned as I rubbed my neck, it was aching after my awkward position.
“Waking you up before (Y/N).” Bonnie simply stated.
“Why?”
He leaned against the kitchen counter.“So you can leave.”
I huffed.“Shut up mate.”
He scoffed.“I’m your mate again?”
I didn’t reply.
“You’ve hurt her enough. I don’t know why I agreed to let you come here in the first place.”
Before I could snap back, there was loud shouts and screams echoing through the block. Both of us rushed to the window, faces up against the glass to try and see what was happening. Being blinders, we were on high alert, however, I hoped it was just a fight between a group of people; that hope disappeared when gunshots went off.
“Get (Y/N)!” I ordered Bonnie, who sprinted towards her room.
“What the fuck have you got me in now Finn?!” (Y/N) exclaimed as she was pulled from her room.
“We need to get out of here.” I said slipping on my jacket, checking how many rounds were in my gun.“Bonnie, you got your gun?”
He nodded as he opened a side of his jacket, revealing his weapon.
(Y/N) was shoving on her shoes, grabbing a random coat before racing back to her bedroom. Before we could question her, she had emerged with her own gun, the gun I had given her for emergencies only.
“You remember how to use it?” I checked.
“Yes, though I don’t want to use it.”
“You won’t have to.” Bonnie tried to reassure her.
This wasn’t a time to make witty remarks. Cautiously opening the front door, I stepped out, looking left and right to check the coast was clear. Gesturing for them to follow me, Bonnie and (Y/N) stayed behind as I went ahead, peeking around every corner for anyone who looked dangerous. We had made it out of the building, but it was too suspicious to me that there hadn’t been anymore noise.
“Right, we need to head to the shop, it’s our safest bet.” I stated as we made it to the streets.
I hadn’t even taken another step when someone shouted,“There’s the peaky bastards!”
Immediately sprinting, (Y/N) screamed out as gunshots went off. Ducking behind a car, I quickly shot back at them, Bonnie joining me as (Y/N) stayed hidden away. I recognised them, they were the ones that were ordered to beat us up after the meeting. It didn’t make sense why they were back, they had got their punches in already, literally.
“What the fuck do we do now?!” (Y/N) cried.
There was no way for us to run out in the open again. There were four men our age, all with guns, and even if (Y/N) had a good aim, it would still be hard to gain the upper hand. I couldn’t think of a way to get out of this, not all three of us anyway. As the firing ceased for a moment, I called out to them.
“Let these two go, I’m the Shelby here!”
“Finn, what are you doing?” (Y/N) hissed at me.
“Finn, you can’t risk it!” Bonnie also said.
“They won’t say anything, just let them past safely.”
“Oi!” another voice called out.
Shit.
Bonnie’s P.O.V
Tommy had shown up, waltzing around the corner of a house with Arthur, Isaiah and four other peaky blinders. Finn’s eyes widened with panic, and I too felt his fear; we were going to be in deep shit.
“Thought you made things even last night lads.” Tommy tutted.
“Your boys disrespected my father! They were lucky they got away alive!” one of the shooters spat back.
“Right, well, this problem, is between me and your father, alright? And I would hate to be the bearer of bad news.”
“What bad news?”
Tommy said nothing more, except pulling his coat back to show his gun, as did the other blinders. There was more of us, they were outnumbered. Glancing around the car, I saw any colour on the boy’s faces drain away, some of them already taking slow steps back. The power Tommy held was admirable, though also something to be very scared of.
“Fine, but my father will not be mocked again. This isn’t the last time you’ll see us!” the son shouted at the top of his voice, echoing down the street.
“You three.” Tommy raised a finger at us and gestured us to go to him.
Finn sighed, putting his gun away as he stood. I copied, holding my hands out to (Y/N). She didn’t look at me, shakily pushing herself off the ground, crossing her coat tighter around her. Her head was hung low as we approached Tommy, awaiting a telling off like small children.
“It’s alright!” Tommy suddenly shouted, making us flinch.“Just boys being boys!”
He looked up and around at the houses, and we realised how many people were watching. People were timidly looking through their curtains, scared that they would be hurt, even if they weren’t part of the situation.
“You got your keys (Y/N)?” Tommy asked, a lot quieter now.
She nodded, reaching into her pocket and fishing them out. They rattled against each other as her hand was still shaking. Tommy gently took them from her, handing them to Arthur.
“Brother, take three of these men and check (Y/N)’s building, then her flat. Make sure it’s safe for her.” he instructed.
“Alright.” Arthur mumbled, already walking away.
“Isaiah, help the poor girl to walk.”
Isaiah was hesitant to hold her, or even offer his arm, knowing that Finn and I would rather be doing that. But I held my tongue. She wasn’t happy with us, we had put her in danger, something she had avoided since splitting up with Finn. And it wasn’t just his fault this time, it was mine too. I was the one who said I would never want to put her in that kind of situation, yet here we stood, almost with bullet holes in our bodies.
“We’re all going to have a chat, and you’re going to explain everything.”
(Y/N)’s P.O.V
Isaiah let me loop my arm through his, and I unintentionally grasped at it. I could feel myself crying, but I remained silent, still shocked from what had happened. It had all been so fast. Polly always told me that I had to be ready for this lifestyle, and I had been, the most danger I had been in was a threat from a club owner, who’s business had been taken over by the gang. Although he was rough, he never got to me, and we were always one step ahead. Of course there had been the insults thrown my way, and the name calling; however, that never hurt me, not when I was with Finn.
It was still too early for the shop to be open, making it a perfect place for Tommy to yell at us. I was sat in the seat opposite to Tommy at his desk, whilst he instructed the boys to stand either side of me. I couldn’t bring myself to look at Tommy, embarrassed that he had to come and save our arses.
“Look at her.” Tommy grumbled.“Look at the state she is in. You two did that.”
Finn tried to speak.“Tom-”
“You both owe an apology to (Y/N).”
“I’m sorry (Y/N),” Finn started,“I truly am. I never meant for any of that to happen. You took me into your home and looked after me, this isn’t how you should be repaid.”
“(Y/N), you know I would never want you hurt. And I feel ashamed that I wasn’t able to protect you better. I’m sorry, and I’m sorry that I broke my promise.” Bonnie said.
I hadn’t looked at either of them, still fuming inside, tempted to scream at them. When I remained silent, Tommy cleared his throat.
“Right you two, fuck off.”
Wait, why was I staying? If this was some bullshit about how I should have turned them away after fixing them up, I wasn’t going to stand for it. After the boys slowly exited the office, and as soon as the door was shut, Tommy lit a cigarette.
“Are you alright?”
That shocked me.
“Um, yes, I am now.” I mumbled, finally looking him in the eye.
“I know what’s going on here. Love triangles are dangerous.”
I rolled my eyes.“It’s not like that.”
“You should be flattered, having two boys pine after you.”
I didn’t know how to reply.
“I think you need to stay with Pol for now. Just to make sure you’re safe.”
“You don’t seriously think I’ve been dragged into this, do you?”
“I’m afraid so. You know the drill. They’ve seen you with two blinders, it doesn’t matter what you mean to them, it still sends a message.”
I sighed, suddenly feeling a wave of tears come on.“I thought this had all been thrown away after Finn forgot about me.”
“He never forgot about you.”
“Were we looking at the same person?”
“We were. And you know that deep down. But you need to make a decision about all of this.”
“Yes, I’ll stay with Polly.”
“Not that decision. There’s going to be a lot more people effected by this if you don’t sort this all out now. And (Y/N)?”
“Hm?”
“Choose the right one.”

To you, being an idol isn’t the easiest job in the world. Or the most ‘joyful’ one either. It’s almost like a one-way ticket with no way to return to where you came from. You’re in it, to make a living out of it. There are ups and downs on being an idol. Yes, being an idol means you get the opportunity to see the world, meet new people, being invited to the A listers party, and to inspire people all around the globe. But, being an idol has it’s down too. People would literally comment on everything you say, do—even wherever you go. One false movement then you could end up in the gossip column or even be thrown at a scandalous news to the world. Small conversation with the opposite sex might attract new romance rumors, when really—they’re just having a friendly conversation. If you’re going on a hiatus, people might think that you’re hiding something, of you’re waiting until some scandalous news about you die down before you go back. It’s hard.
But it’s harder when you’re dating another idol.
You met him right after an award show. At that time, it was raining and you were wearing a revealing dress. It was cold, so you were hugging yourself basically.
“You cold?” A voice asked you. You turn to see none other than the man standing with a matching blue suit.
“Ah, yeah… My manager is… somewhere, I guess… She left my coat in the car, so here I am, freezing to death.” You joked, and he let out a chuckle before he could take his suit off.
“Here, wear mine first.” He said giving it to you.
“Oh, no it’s okay! I’ll be okay—”            “Just wear it, it’s fine…” He said putting it on to you. He then leans in closer to your ear.
“There are photographers above us, I just don’t want them getting pictures that they shouldn’t take.” He whispered. You turn to him, who was pressing his lips together firmly as he took a step away.
“Keep it, maybe we’ll meet again someday.” He said before walking away from you as you pull his suit tighter to cover you.
“Congrast on the win by the way!” He shouted happily and you just smiled.
And you’re glad that the both of you crosses paths for the second time. He was out with his friends, while you were dining by yourself. Wearing a black hoodie and sweats, while he was wearing a black cap, a white t-shirt and a sweatpants with a pair of sandals.
“The girl with the dress is now the girl with sweats.” He said as he approached your table, and you just giggled.
“Since, my dress was too revealing for the paparazzies, I need an outfit that covers most parts of my body too.” You winked and he chuckled.
He looked at his friends for a brief second before turning back to you.
“So listen, I’m with my friends right now, but I would really love to have a meal with you and get to know you a little bit more in the future, so… can I call you or text you later?” He asked. And you just smiled before both of you could exchange phone numbers.
You talked to him almost everyday until he finally asked you out on dinner. He didn’t want any public media knows about it, so he invited you down to his place where he cooks all of the meal.
“You cook this much?” You asked as you approached the dinning table in his house.
“Yeah, I didn’t know how much we’d both be eating, so… I made this much.” He said.
You turn your head to him and he was smiling from ear to ear. “The more the better.” He said.
He asked you to be his girlfriend on the third date, which was at his place, and the both of you were just watching Netflix until you both got into an intimate conversation.
“Umm… I don’t know, I think it’s too risky.” You whispered before his forehead could touch yours.
           “I know… but it’s a risk I’m willing to take.” He said.
You could feel his hand on your back, pulling you closer into his arms.
“If you don’t want to do it, it’s fine—but I really want to take this chance, even it’s risky.” He said.
“Nobody can know about us—especially the media!” You pointed out to him, staring deep into his eyes.
           “Especially that.” He said.
“We have to tell both of our manager so they can help us with our meeting plan, so no media can ever see us.” You told him, and he nodded his head.
“Of course, we’re just going to keep this out from the media, and our friends.” He said.
           “Okay…”
“Okay… So you want to do this?” He asked as his eyes traveled down to your lips before he could look back into your eyes.
“Yes, yes, I want to do this with you.” You nodded your head with a smile, your arms reflexively moved, wrapping it around his neck.
“Okay…” He said in a low voice before he could press his plump lips on yours.
You’ve been dating THE Do Kyungsoo—the singer and actor—for 6 months now since that night he asked you to be his girlfriend. You kept this information really close. Your head agency and also Kyungsoo’s head agency already knew about this, and they agree to keep it as a secret as long as it can. Both yours and Kyungsoo’s manager knows about it too, and both of them have been working together to keep all sorts of public attention, medias, tabloids, fans away from you and Kyungsoo. They also helped to arrange on how you get to Kyungsoo’s place without being spotted, or the other way around it and it has been working so well—
So far.
You were currently eating lunch with you co-star near where you were shooting your drama. You could see some fans whispering as they pass by and some of them let out a squeal of excitement. Not long after that, public media starts to trickled in one by one.
“Ah, the media’s here.” Minjae said, prepping himself to get off from his seat.
You looked over yoru shoulders and you could see people hurling the front door with their camera ready in hand.
You nodded your head before getting up from your seat.
“Shall we go?” You asked, and Minjae nodded his head.
Before you could leave the place, you thanked the owner by bowing your head slightly as Minjae followed you. He pulled your hand so that he exit the building first, pushing the both of you through the paparazzi and exciting fans.
Questions were started being thrown at the both of you. Starting from the questions about yoru drama, then to yours and Minjae’s dating life.
“Can you tell us what the drama is about?”
“Can we confirm that you guys are having an off-screen romance?”
           “KIM MINJAE WE LOVE YOU!”
“Is it true that you’re dating (Y/N)?”
“(Y/N), are you dating DO Kyungsoo at the moment?”
You heard the question, but you didn’t react to it, otherwise people would already get a confirmation. You and Minjae didn’t answer to any of the questions and proceed to Minjae’s car.
“Aish… can people move aside, we’re trying to get out from this place.” He said turning his car engine on.
You let out a light laugh, but really your head was too distracted by the question that was asked by the media.
“(Y/N), are you dating DO Kyungsoo at the moment?”
As Minjae drove his car slowly out from the parking space, you fished yoru phone out from your purse to send a quick text to Kyungsoo.
Hey, are you busy today?
You send the text and as you reached the set, you got a reply from Kyungsoo.
From: K
Just finished rehearsing, why?
But, as you were about to reply, your director was already calling out for you and Minjea to get on the next scene. So you placed your phone back into your purse before you get back into your job. But as the day goes by, you didn’t feel safe, everything was distracting, you lose focus, to the point Minjae asked you if you’re okay. Right after the shoot, you thanked everyone before proceeding to go straight home.  You plopped yourself on the couch of your living room as you opened yoru phone.
4 Missed Calls from K
3 Unread Messegaes from K
From: K
Are you home?
For: K
Yes
As you placed your phone on your stomach, you let out a sigh before you could feel your phone vibrating on you.
“Hello?” You answered.
“Hey, I’m on my way to you right now, there’s something I need to talk to you about.” Kyungsoo said, and you could feel your body went rigid as you sat up. He must’ve known something.
“Soo, I don’t think that’s a good idea, I’m scared if the media has secretly followed me home.” You said, getting up from the couch, stepping out to your balcony.
You saw a couple of people hiding behind the bushes, seemingly ready for Kyungsoo to be caught red-handed to come by to your place.
“Where are you right now?” He asked you, his voice was stern.
“I’m at my apartment.” You answered him, your eyes still looking down on the people below.
“Let’s just meet at my house—but make sure no one is following you.” He added.
“Okay.” You said, walking back inside before locking your balcony glass.
           “And (Y/N)…” Kyungsoo called.
“Yeah?” You stopped your tracks as you were putting your coat on.
“Becareful okay? I love you.” He said.
“I love you too.” You replied before you could hung up the phone and went straight down to your car.
By the time you hit the road, you knew you were being followed. But you made turns that just didn’t make any sense, you stopped by McDonalds to kill time as well.
When you got back into the road, Kyungsoo called you.
“Where are you? I’m already here, waiting for you.” He said in a worried tone.
“I’m on my way, I was driving around and stopped at McDonalds first, so that nobody is really suspecting a thing.” You told him.
“Okay, I’ll be waiting for you okay? Becareful.” He said again.
You hung up the call and continue to drive towards Kyungsoo’s house… while trying to enjoy the fries you just bought.
You parked your car and you can already see Kyungsoo waiting for you outside. He was wearing a khaki pants and black sweater.
“Hey, come in.” He said, taking your hand before closing the door and locking it.
He then greeted you before pulling you into a hug.
“How was your day?” He asked you.
“It was fine… Until I finished up lunch with Minjae, and then suddenly someone asked if we’re dating—I got distracted.” You told him, pulling away from his hug.
“You mean, you and Minjae dating?” Kyungsoo asked.
“No Soo, I mean us…” You said, your voice getting small.
You can see his expression changed, and his jaw clenched after you said it.
“I know, because I was asked the same question as well when I walked out of the studio and…” He then walked to the living room where his laptop was sitting on top of his coffee table. He took it with his hand and he showed you the screen.
THE MULTITALENTED DO KYUNGSOO IS DATING THE BEAUTIFUL NATIONAL ACTRESS, (Y/N)
You turn to Kyungsoo, who has his arms crossed on his chest. You took the laptop from him before taking a seat on his couch and proceed to read the article.
It is no mystery that DO Kyungsoo is one of the most favourite idol in the world. And (Y/N) is one of the rising star in the acting world, and is currently working on a drama with Kim Min-Jae. Fans are speculating that there will be an on-goingm on and off screen romance between the two actors. But to what we know is, the actress is having an off screen romance with the Idol, DO Kyungsoo. Both DO Kyungsoo and (Y/N) has been spotted together last month but, none of them shares any statement about their relationship.
You read the article further and it just makes you nervous and furious even more. You placed it back on the coffee table before bringing your legs up against yoru chest.
“My manager sent me the article, and I told him that I want to talk to you about it first.” He said and you reply by nodding you head.
“Did he say anything else?” You asked him, but your eyes avoiding Kyungsoo’s.
“He gave me options.” He said, his tone sounded heavy.
You turn your head to finally look at him with a raised eyebrow.
“It’s either, we verified the news, and announce that we are indeed dating, or, we have to part ways for a brief moment.” He said.
“How long?” You asked him, but he just shrugged.
“You know it’s a bad idea to come out as a couple for the both of us right?” You asked him. He pressed his lips before letting out a long heavy breath, agreeing to the hard truth.
Kyungsoo is planning on coming back with a new album with his friends, while you’re still working on your drama. You thought about the damage if you both come out to the public as a couple. Kyungsoo’s music wouldn’t be supported, so will your drama. Fans would start to attack you—especially you, because you know how fans are in this industry. You thought about other scandals that might turn up. Having a relationship with Kyungsoo then, media might stir it up that you’re also having a relationship with Minjae, because most of the time you’re going to be seen with him.
There was silence between you and Kyungsoo, both of you deep in your own thoughts. You then suddenly felt Kyungsoo’s touch on you knee and you turn to him. He gave you a small, assuring smile before you could smile back. You knew that he has made his decision.
“You want to take a pause?” You asked him.
“I think it’s best we take a pause first, right?” He asked again, and you bit your bottom lip before nodding your head.
You stared at his closed laptop, feeling your eyes started to sting.
“I don’t want it to pause, but we have to right?” You asked him, tears started to stream down your face. Kyungsoo quickly moved closer to you as you scrambled yourself to get into his embrace. You could feel his arms pulling you tighter.
“It’s not fair.” You whimpered burying your face on his chest.
“I know… but I think this is what’s best for you too baby.” He said, and you just nodded your head. You hate that what he was saying was right.
“Hey… look at me.” He said, pulling your face and he let out a chuckle as he saw your crying face. He always find it very cute.
“I thought taking Chanyeol and Sehun to a club would be hard, but this is much harder than I thought. He said, sucsessfully made you laugh a little. “We’re taking a pause, but that doesn’t mean that I won’t be there for you, that doesn’t mean that I won’t take your calls or answer your text okay? I’ll try to be there for you as much I can.” He said, only to make you tear up again.
“Maybe right now is not the right time for us to be together, but I’m certain that we’ll be together again soon enough when the time is right.” He smiled, despite how heartbroken it is to see you cry.
You both stayed like that for hours until it was time for you to get back home. As you both walked towards the door, your steps and heart felt really heavy. You turn around before you quickly could put your arms around Kyungsoo’s neck. He was surprised at first, but only to hug you tighter seconds later.
“I love you (Y/N)… so much, this is the hardest decision we both have to agree on.” He whispered, and you could tell he’s trying his best not to cry too by the sound of his voice cracking.
“I don’t want to let go…” You whimpered, but you heard him chuckle.
“Don’t be silly, you have a shoot to do tomorrow right?” He asked, pulling his face so that he could see you.
He tucked strands of hair behind your ear as he gave you a warm smile.
“I love you.” He said again.
“I love you too Soo.” Your voice sounded so small, it was almost a whisper.
He leaned in, pressing his lips against yours. You felt his grip on your side getting stronger, his lips getting warmer as his tongue explored your mouth. You got your hands all tangled up in his hair as the other one gripped his shoulder.
You’re going to miss his kisses.
You’re going to miss his touch.
You’re going to miss his attention and love.
You’re truly going to miss him.
You didn’t want his kiss to end, you didn’t want him to let go of you, you didn’t want this relationship to take a pause. You don’t want to leave. You don’t want this to happen. You wished all of this was a dream.
Once his lips parted from yours, both of you were gasping for air before you could meet his eyes.
His hands moved to the sides of your face before he could look down on the ground, and you could heard him sniffed.
He cried.
“Be careful okay?” He said, a tear stream down his face.
You nodded your head and he kissed your cheek and you lips for the last time before he could fully let go of you.
You opened the door and walked towards your car. You got into your car and tried to control your mind and you breathing because you’re going to be behind the wheel. You start your car and you saw Kyungsoo standing in front of the door. You saw him with a smile before raising his hand, waving to you. You smiled before you pulled away from the driveway and drove back to you apartment.
As you reached your apartment, you closed the door behind you before you could lean your back to it and slid down to the floor as you started crying. For the past 4 months everything was in the clear. 4 months went by beautifully. But anything beautiful could come to an end as well. You thought about where did it went wrong? Where did you both slipped? Has somebody been spying on the both of you all month long? You continue to run through you memory before turning up empty handed and drag your steps to you bedroom. You changed into you sleepwear and as you were washing your face, you just noticed how puffy your eyes are and how messy your hair was.
Slipping under the covers, you kepts sniffling, and tears just kept on streaming down your face.
“I love you Kyungsoo…” You whispered to yourself, hoping that maybe you both could be together again.
Because you felt your happiest when you’re with him.

There are two types of monsters: ones that sleep under your bed and ones that sleep behind your eyes. For Aryll, it's the former.
And Link saw a lot in the latter.
He rubbed his eyes to try to erase the bags that rest stubbornly underneath them, but he wondered if he was just making it worse. Probably. But why did it matter anyway? He usually got three hours of sleep tops, so he always liked to think that darkness had become a permanent edition to his features. He tapped his toes against the pavement, waiting, peering around the corner of the school's brick fence, trying to catch a glimpse of the black car that Zelda usually pulled up in. With five minutes left until school started, he was beginning to worry—she was never late. And for the first time in his entire high school career, he was early.
It was a last minute trip they had planned, when they had snuck onto the school roof after class yesterday.
"I want to see the ocean," she had told him, under the summer's unrelenting heat. They were both sticky with sweat, even though they were sitting under a shady area, and the next thing she said made no sense to him. "I've never been to the beach before." Living here and never once going to Hateno Beach? He thought she was kidding at first. But she stared at him dead in the eye with her lips pressed into a thin line, as serious as ever. When he jokingly proposed that they ditch school the next day to go to the beach, she didn't hesitate to say yes.
It had taken him practically the whole day yesterday to convince her to sneak up onto the rooftop, and yet she was completely fine with ditching an entire day of school to go to the beach.
She was weird and unpredictable and he loved it.
He decided to check his backpack again for the twelfth time in the past hour, just to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything. His memory was pretty terrible to begin with. He always found something new that he had forgotten whenever he went to check his backpack. The first time he checked, he realized he didn't bring any cups. Just that one thermal bottle whose lid doubled as a cup. The second time he checked, he realized he had forgotten napkins. If worst came to worst, he guessed he could just offer up his jacket or something, if she really needed to clean her hands or wipe her mouth—would that be any better though? When was the last time he washed his jacket?
"Link?"
Before he could try to sniff his sleeve, Zelda's voice pierced his thoughts.
He zipped up the backpack once more and peeked around the corner again—and finally, he saw her familiar twin braided blonde hair bobbing up and down as she ran toward him.
With… a frenzied kind of pace.
"Link!" she shouted again, breathless, as she waved her arms up and down in panic. Behind her he could hear another person shouting—but it was hard to hear their voice, since it was drowned out by the sound of Zelda urgently telling him to go, go, go.
Fumbling, Link lifted the bike away from the brick fence and rolled it out, hopping onto the front seat.
"I thought you said you had two bikes!" Zelda exclaimed, quickly tossing herself over the second seat without missing a beat.
"I mean, this is kinda like two bikes isn't it?" She only learned how to ride a bike three days ago and he wasn't comfortable with leading her down a rather windy road to get to the beach on her own. The last time he taught someone how to ride a bike was Mipha, years ago, and she almost face planted into a cliff because he let go of her bike and had forgotten to tell her how to brake.
Besides, he had to bribe Aryll fifty rupees to take the tandem bike out today. If he wanted to borrow her regular bike, she would've asked for a hundred. That was equivalent to a week's worth of mowing Tokk's front lawn.
Link was probably getting scammed by Tokk, but he was only 40% sure about that.
"Won't we look ridiculous riding this around?" Zelda scoffed as they began pulling out onto the road. "I thought we were supposed to be discreet? A tandem bike—Oh Hylia!" She kicked his shin with her foot, urging him to hurry. "Impa's coming!"
"Who?" Impa? He didn't think Zelda had mentioned her before.
"Miss Zelda!"
Link glanced at the direction that Zelda had come from, and he saw an angry looking young woman in a black suit racing toward them at an alarming speed. A chill ran down his spine as they locked eyes.
"You!" Impa shouted, pointing a furious finger at him. "Who are you!"
Without a second left to waste, Link clicked into gear and pedaled away fast before that angry finger could intentionally poke out his eyeballs. They shot down the road, with Zelda's exhilarated laughter mixing in with the sound of the rushing wind whistling by them.
For some reason, it was a strange and distinct sound, like it was reverberating all around him; he felt trapped in it.
Until her laughter abruptly stopped.
"Look out—!"
He looked up; but by then, it was too late. An apple that hung low from the tree smacked him square on the forehead with a resounding thud.
——————————————————————
"You know," Zelda said, accepting his hand as he helped her down the rocky cliff that led to the shoreline, "the beach looks different from above."
Link hadn't been to Zelda's home before, but he knew what it looked like from below. It was an odd-looking building that used to be an abandoned lighthouse, but then someone moved into it a couple of years ago, and that someone had hammered on weird platforms and objects to it, so now it looked like Hateno's novelty sculpture.
"Your room's at the top of that lighthouse building right?" Link asked, grunting as he jumped down onto the sand with a hefty thud. He turned around and held out both of his hands to her.
"Mhm. Purah let me have the upper loft when I moved in with her. The view's amazing at night, you can see all the stars." Zelda crouched down and gratefully accepted his hands. Her hands were rough. She jumped down.
Link couldn't see the stars from his bed, because a gigantic tree was right in front of his window.
Her prickling stare withdrew him from his thoughts—she studied his face as if she was observing every detail on it. He could count the sun freckles that had begun appearing around her cheeks; heat climbed to his cheeks as he leaned back a little, finally aware of how close they were.
"I hope that apple won't leave a bruise on your forehead," she muttered, her eyebrows furrowing together, with that little crease appearing between her brows. Always one crease, never two. "You took quite a hit back there."
"I—" he paused, his mouth still slightly ajar.
What was he gonna say? That he was too focused on the sound of her laughter to the point where he wasn't paying attention to the road?
She tilted her head quizzically, waiting for him to speak.
Link let go of her hands to adjust the straps of his stiff backpack. "I know a spot near the rocks," he muttered, turning to a cluster of boulders near the water. It was flat enough that they could place the blanket down and set the lunchboxes and thermal bottle without having to worry about them falling over.
They walked side by side.
"The patterns on the rocks are so symmetrical," she murmured, tapping her chin with her finger. "Like the cliff we just climbed down from—you could tell during high tide the water reaches it, just barely though. I've always found it fascinating that exposure to water erosion could create such beautiful patterns. Don't you agree?"
Link nodded, and a smile quirked up on her lips. The hop in her step was a little higher than usual as she sped up to reach the cluster of rocks faster. He liked listening to her observations of little details, even though he didn't offer much opinion of his own. It was nice to hear and see Hyrule through a different kind of lens.
She was already climbing up the rock by the time Link reached it, and she stood there proud and tall with her hands on her hips, facing the vast ocean.
"We should eat before the food gets cold," Link called up to her, unzipping his backpack to hand her the picnic blanket. It used to belong to his mom. At one point he stole the key to his dad's chest and opened it up to find a bunch of things that used to be hers, probably, because there was a picture of her in there, squished in with a bunch of other stuff. He stole that picture too. And to this day, his dad still hadn't noticed anything was missing.
Link wondered if his dad knew, and just let him... have it.
"Of course," she said, her eyes glinting hungrily. She grabbed the blanket from him, and with it, his thoughts.
She spread it out as he climbed up to her.
Her reactions were always funny whenever Link brought food for her. For some reason, she always tried to mask her excitement—but she was terrible at hiding the anticipation that gleamed in her green eyes, and even more terrible at trying to keep a smile from erupting on her face while he pulled out the two lunchboxes.
"Chamomile tea," Link stated, as he pulled out the thermal bottle next. He paused to watch her, and her mouth formed an 'o' as she greedily grabbed it from him, opening the cap up. He popped open the lid of one of the lunchboxes and slid it toward her.
There were sliced hydromelons, egg pudding, honey crepes and fruits, and her favorite—
"Hot buttered apples!" Zelda exclaimed, reaching for one.
In the other box he had a handful of savory foods—maybe he should've opened that one up first.
"I'm glad you took my suggestion." Her fingers paused just before she picked the slice up. "But first, the tea," she said quickly, as if she was reminding herself. She poured it into the lid of the thermal bottle, handing it to Link.
"I want to see your expression when you try it," Zelda insisted, beaming. She was smiling a lot today—more than she has in the past two years that he'd known her. "You take a bite out of the apple first, and then drink the tea, and then it tastes amazing."
"Just like that?" he asked, eyeing the light crisp color of the chamomile tea she handed to him. It reminded him of apple cider.
"Trust me, Link. You'll want to keep eating it," she promised, tugging down at her two braids. She always did that when she was waiting for something—every time she was standing in line at the vending machines to get the both of them candy pop sodas at school, she did that same little tug. "I'm picky with my food, so you know I wouldn't simply be saying this without meaning it."
Link picked up the slice—the hot buttered apples had turned into warm buttered apples by now, but he figured it wouldn't change the taste all that much. As soon as he took a bite out of it and took a sip from the tea, her eyes sparkled.
The combination of the two warmed his stomach—the pinch of cinnamon she had recommended he put on it really kicked it for him, and he had to refrain from shoving at least ten more into his mouth. Considering how much she was staring at the hot buttered apples, he wanted to save the majority of it for her.
"Good? Right? They both have that toasty taste but it's a different kind of toasty. The chamomile tea, when brewed correctly of course, has that touch of floral kick to it too! And the hot buttered apples with that sprinkle of cinnamon just melts in your mouth and it's the most wonderful thing ever, isn't it?" She quickly thanked him as she accepted the tea when he handed it to her, and she picked up a slice to take an eager bite of her own.
"It's really good." He wasn't the best at expressing himself through words, but despite their simplicity, it seemed to have gotten through to her, as that gleeful glint in her eyes only gleamed brighter. "Did your parents—" He paused mid-chew, realizing just a little too late that his question was going to dampen her brightness.
And it did, just a little.
Idiot.
Whenever he asked about her immediate family, she would tense up—just like now. She cast her eyes down at the lunchbox, eyeing all of the food that he had prepared, her lips pursed. She would always be on the brink of telling him, but then she would turn away in the end.
Maybe… she needed a little push, to talk about it.
"My mom hated apples." The words felt weird in his mouth—he's never spoken about his mom to anyone, and he only brought her up once to his dad. Link raised his eyes to meet hers. Zelda had stopped chewing too, and looked at him with wide, curious eyes.
"That's what my dad told me at least, when I asked him what she hated the most." No one in his family ate apples that much, and it all made sense when he found out about that little fact a couple of years ago. It was hard for his dad to talk about her—time didn't heal the pain behind his voice when he told Link those three simple words: She hated apples.
And behind those three simple words were years upon years of grieving, and he never asked his dad about her again.
He watched as Zelda picked up another slice, her mouth parting slightly. "My mother loved making all sorts of meals with apples."
Loved, Link thought.
Past tense.
They sat in silence for a bit, just munching on those hot buttered apples, while passing the tea back and forth between each other.
"My mother made a snack for me that always involved apples in some way—whenever I was sad, angry, or when she was proud of me." He expected her to look lost in thought as she spoke, but she wasn't. She was as present as she could've been, and he was... it made him feel a little better. Less alone. "Hot buttered apples with chamomile tea was my favorite. She made it for me quite often," she said, chuckling. "What was your mother like?"
She gave him the last slice.
He hesitated; both in accepting the last piece and at her question. The only thing he had was a worn out picture of her, weathered down by age. And that blanket. "I don't know, I don't remember anything," he admitted, taking the slice from her.
Her gaze softened.
Link once punched another classmate in grade school because they asked him, how could he be sad? If he had no memories of his own mom? What was there to be sad about, since he couldn't remember anything? And for the longest time, he didn't let himself be sad over her. How could you be sad about someone you had no memories of?
But one day, Aryll barged into his room—her face red, with snot running down her nose, crying, because she had an argument with their dad. "What if I forget about her, Link?" Aryll had said to him in between her choked up sobs. "I feel like if dad never talks about her, she'll disappear forever."
He knew then that there was pain with memory, and pain without memory. One wasn't more valid than the other.
Because either way, no one won anything in the end.
"I wish I could've met your mother," she said. "I'm certain I could've changed her mind about apples."
There wasn't a lick of a tease on her face. She was serious.
For the first time in a while, Link laughed.

Inuyasha sat high in the tree, eyes closed, relaxing against the trunk, his ears flickering every few seconds, listening to the encouraging words of the monk below. He knew his Kagome could do it, she just had to believe it herself. They had been traveling for almost three seasons now and she grew more powerful every time they went into battle. As much as he hated to admit it, these sessions with Miroku were helping her access and channel her spiritual powers every time she faced a new danger. He would still protect her with his life no matter what, he promised himself that.
“Kagome, try one more time. Close your eyes, focus on expanding your barrier to cover both of us. Deep breaths.” Miroku spoke softly, as if he was any louder, he might discourage her.
“Okay, I can do this.” She said to herself, knowing one and/or both men were listening and watching. She felt that spark of power, the pure warmth expanding from her soul, brushing softly against her skin and covering her entire body. She could feel her skin buzzing with barrier slowly being pushed out from her body, as if it wanted to protect the precious things inside.
“Great, take a breath again, deep breath in, and when you exhale, push the barrier farther. You’re doing great.”
Sweat starting to form on her brow, she did her best to breath normally and push her barrier out. Kagome heard Miroku’s gasp and quickly opened her eyes. Around her, him, the tree where Inuyasha sat and a few more, were enveloped in her barrier. She squealed and laughed, catching her gaze with Inuyasha, who smiled slightly in return. “That’s my girl.” Inuyasha thought, knowing he could never actually tell her to her face without facing the teasing of Miroku or the knowing smile from Sango. Hearing Kagome gasp like she was in pain, he was instantly jumping from the tree to her side.
“Kagome!” Both men shouted.
Falling to her knees, with Miroku on her right, catching her arm, Inuyasha, right in front crouching, holding her left hand, Kagome was breathing extremely fast, her heart pounding, feeling like she had ran for hours. “I think I might have overdone it.” She admitted sheepishly, cheeks rapidly flushing, realizing Inuyasha was holding her hand.
“While you did a great job Kagome, I think it might be time to rest for the evening and we can continue training in a day or so, after some rest. We are only about a day’s walk back to Kaede’s home as well. I understand you need to restock on supplies.” Miroku spoke reassuringly.
While nodding her head, Kagome turned her eyes toward Inuyasha’s and softly smiled. Grunting, he spoke. “Miroku’s right. You can get some rest. You shouldn’t over do it.” Slightly scolding her, while also being gentle, he helped her up to her feet, hiding the fear in his eyes as an unwelcoming thought came about.
“I’m okay. Let’s go get dinner started. I’m sure Sango is waiting for us.” Kagome sighed.
As they headed back to their make shift camp for the night, the spot becoming more common to stop at when they traveled, Kagome couldn’t help but feel suddenly exhausted, like all her energy was being drained for her. Tripping over her feet, she felt clawed hands catch her upper shoulders and suddenly swing her arms up around his neck, so she was on his back. Smiling softly, she laid her head on his shoulders and whispered a thanks. Feeling his hands tighten around her legs, she knew he heard her.
Miroku spoke up suddenly, “Do you feel that?” Turning to his left, then his right, past the couple, he felt like his energy was trying to be drained from him, towards an evil aura. Inuyasha looked at him questionably, stopping as well, with Kagome lifting her head to look at him as well. The feeling vanished suddenly, as if it was caught doing something it shouldn’t, and Miroku shook his head, sighing softly, “Never mind, I thought I felt an evil presence.”
“That line only works in a village, when you just so happen to spot a well off house, Monk.” Inuyasha scoffed. “Let’s go, I want ramen and I don’t want Shippo to think he can have mine.”
Later that evening, after dinner was cleaned up, everyone got settled into their sleeping arrangements, Sango eyeballing Miroku, making sure there was plenty of space between them, Kagome felt even more exhausted and sore, wondering if she had pushed herself too hard today. “I think I’m going to refill my water and stretch my legs,” getting up and gathering her bow and arrows. Standing up as well, Inuyasha stated, “I’m coming with you.”
“I’m okay, the stream is right there. I’ve got my weapon just in case.”
“I’m still coming with you.” He replied gruffly, walking closer, “I have to ask you something.” He added softly.
Smiling brightly, she nodded her head and turned toward the stream with her empty bottle. Miroku and Sango watched them leave, exchanging questioning looks. As they walked quietly over, kneeling down, she felt him sit down beside her. After filling it, she screwed the cap on her bottle, Kagome looked up at the sky, it’s stars shining so brightly, smiling at how the stars just never seem to be as bright in her time.
“Kagome?”
Turning her head, she locked eyes with Inuyasha, gasping softly, she saw so many emotions come across his face. He never seemed to be this troubled or want to talk. “Yes?”
“Can you promise me something? And in return, I will promise you something?”
“Of course, what is it? What is troubling you so much?” Using her right hand, she took ahold of his.
A slight blush forming on his cheeks, he swallowed quickly, knowing if he didn’t spit the words out, he wouldn’t ever and he needed to know this. “First, will you promise to be more careful with your powers? I know today, you made progress, but you, uh, worried me there for a second. I mean, I knew you would be fine, but I couldn’t but help, uh, but think if there was danger around, someone could actually hurt you. Not that I would let them. Uh, I mean, my promise is-“
“Inuyasha.” Without realizing he was looking at their hands, he lifted his head to clash his golden eyes to the brightest, blue eyes, that you could get lost in. Kagome, smiling and softly spoke, “You’re rambling. Take a breath. Start over for me.”
Feeling much more calm than before, he squeezed her hand in a silent thank you, began to speak again. “Kagome, you are getting stronger. You can fight really well. I just want, no, I need you to promise me, that you won’t over do it, and end up hurting yourself again. That you will, uh, let me protect you.”
With a matching blush, Kagome nodded, “Oh Inuyasha, I promise. I want to stay by your side.”
“I will protect you with my life, Kagome. I promise you that.”
“Can I ask you something, Inuyasha?”
Nodding in agreement, he squeezed her hand again, in encouragement, noticing her sudden nervousness.
“After everything is said and done with Naraku, will you let me stay by your side?”
Silence.
“I mean, of course, I know you have other obligations and such, but you and Shippo, Sango, Miroku and Kaede have become so much more than friends to me and-“ she rambled on, eyes shutting tight, feeling insecure, like she said the wrong thing, letting her thoughts get away with her.
“Kagome.”
Opening her eyes, she saw the one thing she never thought to see reflected back in his eyes, love. “Kagome, I want us to stay together. If you want, I, uh, want to build us a hut. I want you to stay by my side.”
Laughing, Kagome jumped into his arms, giving him the tightest hug she could imagine, tears forming in her eyes. Burying her face in his fire rat, feeling his arms wrap around her, she nodded and enthusiastically repeated yes, over and over.
Chucking, Inuyasha, squeezed her, with a smile on his face. “Okay, now that that is settled, let’s get some rest, so we can make it back to your time tomorrow evening. You talked about another one of your exam demons you have to fight. We can talk more later.”
Giggling softly, she agreed and they headed back to camp, not even realizing their friends were laying, smiling, having heard most of the conversation.
The next morning, after breakfast and packing up their stuff, they began to travel back toward the village. Inuyasha up front, with Shippo on his shoulder, babbling on about the latest toy he couldn’t wait to play with, Miroku nodding along, beside him. A few paces back, Kagome and Sango followed with Kiara in Sango’s arms, napping slightly.
“You look fairly happy this morning Kagome.”
“I am. Inuyasha and I had a talk last night that cleared some things up, made a promise to each other. My heart just seems really happy today.” Kagome responded, a smile forming on her face.
Sango laughed and hugged, causing both girls to laugh louder, making the men up front, turn around and stare at them with questionable looks.
“It’s nothing guys! Kagome and I are having girl talk.”
Hearing them mumble and turn back around, Kagome sighed happily. She wondered if when she went home, she could go get a few extra things for the group, just because. Before she could think any further, she felt a wave of foreboding wash over her, causing her to stop and turn around, expecting to find something behind her. It was a like a pull towards the campsite they were at the previous night.
“What is it?” Sango asked stepping up beside her, stroking Kiara’s fur.
“I don’t know, it’s this weird pull, like something is calling me.”
“Come on! We haven’t got all day!” Inuyasha yelled at them from a little ways in front, the men not stopping to realize the girls felt something. As soon as Kagome turned to tell him what she was feeling, it disappeared, as if being caught, like a child sneaking a cookie before dinner. “It’s gone” she whispered to Sango, shrugging.
“If it comes back, we’ll check it out. Let’s get back to Kaede.” Nodding in agreement, they jogged to hurry up with the boys.
As dusk neared, they came walking towards Kaede’s hut, seeing her pull her door mat aside, welcome them. “Hello ye! I was wondering if ye all were arriving back soon. Come inside, I have just finished a pot of stew.” Thanking her as they walked inside, Inuyasha giving a nod in thanks for once, Kagome felt a light breeze, and slightly shivered, thinking about the weird feeling from earlier. Brushing it off, thinking it as nerves for her upcoming test she had been trying to study for at lunch, she followed everyone inside.
Once dinner was finished, everyone sat around the fire, speaking of the few demons they had slain, gaining two more jewel shards recently. Kaede asked about Naraku and of any whereabout, they told her that hadn’t seen or heard any hide of him since Mount Hakurei collapsed, that they came back to stock up on supplies, and hopefully go on another search in a few days, after Kagome returned. Shippo and Kiara curled softly near the fire, Shippo snoring softly.
The uneasy feeling from before washed over Kagome again, gasping looked toward the door.
“Something doesn’t feel right.” Miroku spoke and catching everyone’s attention.
“Kagome, are you feeling that weird sensation from earlier again?” Sango asked, touching her shoulder softly, nothing Kagome looked a little pale.
“What feeling? Why didn’t you say anything Kagome? What’s going on?” Inuyasha asked, voice growing louder and louder, staring Kiara and Shippo awake.
Before she could respond, Miroku started to speak, “Kagome, is this feeling, like something that is pulling at you, pulling at your soul in a direction, also a feeling of something bad and uneasy?”
Nodding, Kagome agreed quietly, “it started this morning, but I haven’t felt it since before lunch.”
“Why didn’t you say anything earlier?” Inuyasha asked again, crouching next to Kagome, trying to catch her eyes.
Looking down, feeling suddenly tired, Kagome started to speak, when everyone gasped around her. She looked up at their faces, she saw expressions of seriousness, confusions and astonishment. Seeing her hands out of the corner of her eyes, she realized she was glowing! What was going on?
“What the fuck?” Inuyasha angrily asked, getting to his feet turning towards the door quickly. “Something is coming.”
Jumping up, Miroku and Kaede applied sutras to the door panels, casting a barrier around the hut. Kagome immediately stopped glowing, feeling a little bit more energized, take a deep breath.
“Child, I think somebody is trying to steal your soul.” Kaede stated.
“Could it be Kikyo?” Sango asked quietly, gathering Kagome’s trembling hands in hers, knowing she needed to get ready for a battle.
Hearing Inuyasha growl loudly, swearing under his breath, Kaede shushed him and turned to the young ladies, both with frightened looks on their face. “No, I cannot feel her presence here. This is a far more pronounced evil, someone who has taken many souls.”
“I felt this feeling yesterday, but I think because I am more experienced in my spiritual powers, they couldn’t take mine. Kagome, I think, whoever it is, is after your powers and your pure soul.”
Feeling like she was about to faint, face going pale, she felt a clawed hand on her shoulder. Turning slowly, she locked eyes with hard, determine gold ones, hearing the words from his mouth, “I promised to protect you with my life.” Nodding in agreement, she closed her eyes and took a deep breathe, trying to steady herself again.
Feeling soft paws other outstretched legs, she opened her eyes to see Shippo looking at her with a worrisome expression, “Are you alright Gome?”
“Yes, Shippo, I’m okay. So what do we do now? I can’t stay in this hut forever.” Kagome asked out loud.
Before anyone could respond a loud, shrill scream came from outside, causing everyone to stop and stare at the sutra covered doorway.
“Stay here.” Inuyasha walked towards the door, turning around, “I’ll check it out.”
“Wait, Inuyasha, if you-“ Miroku started to yell. As Inuyasha stepped through the door, the barrier around the hut shattered down, making the whole hut shake. “Inuyasha! You just dispelled the barrier, now anything can come and go!”
“How was I supposed to know that?!”
Hearing a feminine laughter outside, everyone grabbed their weapons and fled the hut. Rushing outside, they saw a village woman weeping over a body, that looked devoid of a soul and a witch standing a few feet away, glowing in the same light color Kagome had been in previously. This witch was tall, with long, pin straight, black hair, and black eyes that reminded Kagome of the darkest clouds during a thunderstorm.
“Ah, finally, that delectable soul has come out to play. I was wondering when I would get to see the face of the purest soul I have ever tasted.” The witch, in a purple garment, with elegant red beading, spoke arrogantly.
“Who the fuck are you?” Inuyasha growled loudly, pushing Kagome behind him. He didn’t like this woman or that she made his Kagome sacred.
“Well, if I must tell you, before I take all of your souls, my name is Ahmya”
“Black rain.” Miroku whispered.
“You are correct, Monk. I cursed my mother for giving me the name, she never wanted me. Her angry soul tasted divine I tell you.”
“So, that’s why you’re after our souls? Because you have mommy issues? Grow the fuck up.” Inuyasha yelled, pulling out his tessaiga and pointing it towards the woman.
Beginning to walk around the weeping villager, Ahmya began to tell her story, “Oh, my dear sweet, I have gotten over my mommy issues as you say. I walk the countryside, devouring ugly souls for my own benefit. It hasn’t been until the last few decades or so that I have come to know pure souls taste better and give me longer strength and beauty.”
“So, you made a deal with a demon then? For beauty? Well, I can tell you it didn’t work.” Inuyasha smugly responded.
Laughing like it was the funniest thing she ever heard, “I can see why her soul yearns for yours. You are charming hanyou.”
Gasping softly, Kagome began to see blurs of faces, children’s cries, souls being pulled from their bodies toward this woman. Tears streaming down her cheeks, she tried to put into words what she was seeing, her heart breaking. “What did you do to her?! Kagome?!” Inuyasha yelled, smelling her tears, turned around to face her, shocked by what he was seeing. Kagome’s hands were glowing pink, cupped together, eyes glazed over, tears flowing down her cheeks, mumbling soft words.
“Miroku, Sango, watch over everyone, I’m going to rip this witch to shreds.”
“You took their souls.” Kagome spoke softly, just loud enough for Sango to step up and ask, “What was that Kagome?”
Smiling, Ahmya started laughing. “This girl has so much power, beyond any I have ever seen in my years, with the purest soul. I tried to taste more of her this morning, but she is strong. She caught what I was doing before I got far. I, however, did get to look inside her soul, that she yearns to protect you hanyou, like you protect her. That she cares for all you others more than anything. How much she loves her beloved hanyou. She is correct, some of the purest souls have been children. They tasted so sweet, I can still hear their cries as I cradled them into their death.”
“You took so many souls. Children, old folks, babies from wombs, children from their mother’s hands, whole demon families wiped out from you, How could you?!” Kagome began, her voice growing louder, til she was almost yelling, her body beginning to glow all over and bright pink color.
“Kagome, you’re going to push yourself too hard again, take a breath.” Miroku spoke softly, trying to calm her down, stepping closer.
“I’m going to kill you. I’m going to make you pay for killing all those people and for hurting Kagome.” Inuyasha swore, raising his sword up high, while Kaede rushed to the weeping woman, and erected a barrier to protect them, knowing Inuyasha’s power. Miroku stepped in front of Sango and Kagome, while Shippo tried to help Kagome take deep breaths on her shoulder.
Before Inuyasha could swing his sword. he froze, grunting in pain. “What the hell?”
“Inuyasha!” Kagome shouted, taking step towards him.
“Stop. I’m okay, I think” he responded, feeling faint. As Inuyasha’s body started to glow white, he suddenly dropped to his knees, a vacant look crossing his face.
“I’ll start with his soul first. The yearning to protect you makes his soul quite delicious.” Ahmya licked her lips, brought her hands together, holding a mirror, chanting a soft spell, making it glow the same pale color Inuyasha was glowing in. Within the next second, an arrow surrounded in pink flew through the air, towards the mirror, causing it to fall from her hands. Eyes flashing in annoyance, Ahmya turned towards to woman who fired.
Kagome, breathing hard, readied another arrow, “Leave him alone.”
Falling to the ground, breathing shallow, Inuyasha groaned, looking up. Sango ran to this side and helped him, gathering him to his feet. Miroku started to chant, pulling his staff in front of him, creating a barrier around the gang, while Kaede still watched from afar, wearily, with the weeping woman.
“You wretched child. I will have his soul, and yours when I am done pulling his from his body.” Ahyma screeched.
Getting to his feet, Inuyasha yelled, getting ready to release the Wind Scar, Miroku stopped him. “If you release that in here, then we all die. If you step out of that barrier, she will steal your soul. You will lose yourself to your demon side, trying to survive, or you will die!”
“Inuyasha please, we’ll figure this out!” Sango pleaded. She knew this battle would be like none other fought before. Gathering Shippo setting him atop Kiara beside her, she braced herself beside Inuyasha, Hiraikotsu in position.
“Look! She’s chanting again.” Cried Shippo.
Turning around, Inuyasha stepped towards Kagome, only to hear words like a piercing scream, causing his head to pound. Pushing his ears towards his head, he saw Kagome with her hands over her ears, eyes shut tight, everyone else around with the same pained looks. Within seconds, the barrier Miroku tried to keep up, shattered, and the screaming stopped.
“Kagome! Are you okay?” Inuyasha cried.
Nodding slightly, Kagome opened her eyes to see the witch staring straight at her with a smug smile, holding the mirror in her hands once again. As Inuyasha started taking a step towards her, she felt herself becoming angry. Taking a deep, she felt her power spread from her hands, across her body and pushed out, erecting a barrier around everyone, including Kaede and the two villagers, leaving herself outside. She knew what she needed to do.
“Dammit! Kagome! What the fuck are you doing?! Kagome!!!” Inuyasha yelled from inside, beating on the walls with his fists.
“Inuyasha, I’ve got this. I can protect you. If you leave that barrier, she will take your soul.”
“You promised me Kagome! You promised me you wouldn’t over do it. You promised me you would let me protect you!”
Tears beginning to form in eyes, she wiped her cheeks and focused on her breathing, to keep her barrier steady as Inuyasha pounded against it repeatedly. Hearing the other’s voices of concerns, along with Inuyasha’s yelling, she realized Ahmya started to chant again. Knocking an arrow, she whispered “Hit the mark!” And aimed towards to glowing mirror.
Shooting off, the arrow struck in the middle and caused the mirror to shatter into tiny pieces. Small white orbs began to float around them, looking like a million little stars. Smiling, she was about to knock another arrow to take care of the witch, she began to feel the faint feeling again and saw she glowing a light white light. Falling to her knees, she gasped and the witch began to laugh, while the orbs of light floated away.
“You may have destroyed my mirror, which houses the souls that I have yet to devour, but I still can take yours.”
Kagome could hear Inuyasha getting louder, yelling and pounding, crying out her name desperately. “If I can get one more arrow in her, I can save them.” She thought bitterly to herself. Using the last of her strength, she pulled an arrow back, stringing the bow tightly. Before she could release, the bow snapped in two. Gasping in shock, she felt the last of her strength leave her, causing Kagome to fall to the ground, face first.
“NO! KAGOME! WHAT DID YOU DO BITCH? KAGOME! KAGGOMMMEEEEE!!!!” Inuyasha screamed, purple markings beginning to appear across his cheek bones, Sango had tears rolling down her cheeks, holding a wailing Shippo. Miroku began to say a prayer to let her soul find its peace in nirvana, when he noticed the barrier did not fall.
“Look,” he began, “the barrier is still up. She’s still there.” Sango, hearing this, quieted a sniffling Shippo, looking towards the girl on the ground, who lay lifeless still.
“Inuyasha, stop. Ye need to look.” Kaede began to stand, speaking directly at the angry and hurt hanyou.
“Old hag, don’t stop me. I’m going to kill that evil bitch and get her soul back.” He seethed, fangs growing, piercing his lip.
“Inuyasha. Look.” She repeated.
Turning he looked at Ahmya, seeing confusion and frustration wash across her features, wrinkles beginning to appear across her forehead. “What the…” he whispered, whipping his head to Kagome, who was glowing a bright pink.
Opening her eyes, Kagome knew she wasn’t in heaven or hell. She felt the dirt beneath her face, the soft grass on her skin. She couldn’t hear her friend’s voices. Everything seemed to be pounding in her head, she began to get up on her knees, noticing she was glowing pink, her strength returning slowly. Looking up, she saw Ahmya struggling to keep up her chant, aging beyond her years, and turned to her right to see everyone staring at her with wonder, behind her still standing, fully erect barrier. Turning in confusion, she locked eyes with Miroku, who nodded. She knew what to do next.
Determined, she began to stand, following the struggling sounds of the witch, turned her gaze towards her. Ahmya realized that she was failing. Quickly changing to another spell, deciding she could weave one to bind the girl and take her away, so she could get her soul later at her home. Suddenly, she saw the girl glow brighter, she began her spell, creating a glow around herself the color of dark purple, similar to her clothing. Shielding their eyes, everyone in the barrier braced for the unknown, Inuyasha glancing uneasily, between Kagome and Ahyma, hands on tessaiga, ready to go once the barrier was down. Sango and Miroku steadied their weapons, Kaede getting an arrow ready to shoot.
Kagome knew in this instant, if she didn’t stop this witch, she would steal more souls and never stop, taking the purest from the world. Taking a deep breath, she loudly exclaimed, her body glowing brighter, “You will never take a soul ever again.” Using all her strength and power, she readied herself to send it towards the witch. Creating a bow and arrow, whispered “How the mark.” As an arrow made from pure purification energy soared through the air, Ahyma screamed, stopping her spell and turn to try and run. Before she could take a step, the arrow plunged straight through her heart, everything exploding around her.
As the brightness died down, Ahyma dropped her knees wailing, looking at her reflection in the pieces of the broken mirror, seeing an old woman, barely hanging on to life. “You, you child! How could a child do this to me?! I will have your power! I will have ever lasting life!” Screaming, she pulled a knife from her sleeve, not noticing Kagome brought the barrier down a few seconds before.
Inuyasha jumped infant on Kagome, preventing Ahyma from harming her, and swung. “Wind Scar!” Howling in pain, Ahyma disintegrated to ash. All was quiet for about 30 seconds, before Inuyasha turned around towards Kagome with the most irate look on his face.
“Inuyasha.” Miroku spoke softly, coming up beside him, Sango following quickly with Shippo. “Wait.”
Before Inuyasha could say anything, he look at Kagome and froze. Kagome was still as can be, arms hanging beside her, body swirling in pink and white glowing colors, eyes glazed over with a blank face, covered in a barrier.
“I think ye need to take a step back everyone. She is trying to reclaim her soul and calm herself. Give her a minute.” Kaede spoke, helping the gentleman and his still crying wife up, encouraging them to go home, that they were fine and she would check on the tomorrow. “Kagome is very powerful, she realized herself tonight and her soul is attempting to recognize all of it and what she has done. Unconsciously she thinks she is still in danger and is protecting herself.”
“She won’t hurt me.” Stepping closer, Inuyasha spoke softly, “Kagome, it’s me. You are safe now. The witch is dead. I’ve got you.” He reached for her hand, and as he intertwined their fingers, her felt her take a deep breathe and eyes clearing the beautiful blue he had come to love.
The first thing she saw in his eyes was anger, followed by fear, and absolutely awe. Smiling softly, she called his name and took a step towards him, incasing him in her barrier. Once fully inside, the two of them just stood there looking at each other, neither of them speaking just yet.
“I’m sorry.”
“Are you okay?”
Both realizing they spoke at the same time, they blushed and laughed breathlessly.
“You were reckless. How could you Kagome?! You promised me and then went and broke every promise you made to me! I thought you died. Are you okay?”
“I’m so sorry, it wasn’t until she started to take your soul that I realized what I needed to do. I’m okay, I promise.” Kagome softly said, tears forming in her soft, blue eyes. Feeling two hands cuff her cheeks and thumbs wiping away the tears, she brought her hands to cover his.
“You can’t make promises and then break them. I can’t lose you Kagome. Promise me you won’t do that again. You have to swear. You told me you wanted to stay by my side. I need you, haven’t you figured that out by now, Kagome?”
“I swear, I promise. I won’t leave your side again.”
“You better. I’m holding you to that promise.” Inuyasha quickly kissed her forehead, making them both blush softly. “I think you had better let the barrier down, so the others can see that you’re okay. Sango looks like she’s about to kick my ass if I don’t let you go soon.”
Laughing in agreement, Kagome closed her eyes and released a deep breath, bringing down her barrier. Feeling multiple arms around her, she laughed louder, smiling, as everyone began to talk while hugging her.
“Child, ye scared a few years off my life.”

“Kagome, are you okay? Don’t scare me like that sister.”
“Kagome, job well down. Next time, let me know when you decide to do something that powerful. I can see our lessons are working!”
“You’re okay! I was so worried about Gome! You were such a badass!”
“Shippo!” Kagome exclaimed, “Language!”
“Sorry!”
“Kagome, ye were wonderful, ye are growing stronger all the time.” Kaede began.
“She doesn’t have to do that all the time! She promised me she would be more careful.”
“Inuyasha, move over, I want to hug her.”
“Alright slayer, but I’m staying right next to her. Monk, don’t touch me.”
“It’s the curse, not me!”
“Gome! You should purify Miroku!” Shippo snickered, everyone laughing along.
“It’s the hand, I swear! I always get blamed.” Miroku exclaimed shaking his head. Kagome laughed, shaking her head at their antics, thinking of her promise to Inuyasha, that she would do whatever it took so she could stay by his side forever.
The End.

Chapter 1 on AO3
The sun was hot on Emma's skin, she smelled the salty breeze of the waves crashing, the hot sun on her skin, the banana boat oil she was covered in, “Brandy” blaring out of Ruby’s radio sitting at the edge of her blanket. "Man, I can only imagine what Graham would be like between the sheets" Ruby purred as she peered over her white sunglasses at the guys in the water. Emma rolled her eyes, "Dude, just don’t check out my brother please for the love of god Rubes", Emma said exasperated.
"Hmm, Dave isn’t too bad either, rawrrr" she giggled. Emma sat up, "gross Ruby". She shielded her eyes from the sun, looking to the water watching her brother as he paddled back out in the cove, small waves rolling in. "You wanna go in Rubes? I'm boiling out here.” "Sure, boards, or no?" " Sure," Emma said and stood up, bending down to grab her board off the sand beside her.
"Well, that is quite a sight to behold" a lilting Irish voice said behind her. Emma rolled her eyes, ignoring that voice, it belonged to one of her brothers’ friends, Killian Jones. Irish bastard Emma thought to herself as she rolled her eyes, secretly pleased he was ogling her, but wouldn’t dignify his comment with a retort other than a middle finger. He chuckled as she waved it behind her not even looking his way. Ruby stood up, adjusting her red string bikini, grabbing her board too.
The girls walked towards the water, the surf cooling their feet after the hot sand burned beneath their soles. Emma looked to Ruby, "Ready?" Ruby nodded, and they waded in and began paddling out.
Killian Jones was sitting on the sand, warming himself up. Man, Emma Nolan was the ultimate California girl he thought to himself. Her sun-bleached curls hanging low down her back, her skin golden and dark from the sun, freckles sprinkled across her skin. He was particularly fond of the freckles on the soft inner skin of the most spectacular rack he had ever seen. Emma was thin, and athletic, a great ass, and she was a  great surfer. She had a smart mouth that never seized to amaze him.
Their verbal foreplay over the years only got better the older they got. Dave Nolan had welcomed him pretty easily when his brother and him arrived to their neighborhood a few years back, the only warning was hands off his sister, and Killian respected that line his friend had drawn, hell if he had a sister that looked like Emma, he would probably say the same thing. The problem was, the more time that passed, the harder Killian was falling for her.
He sat a few more minutes, until he grabbed his board and headed out into the water to finish up their day. He sat atop his board in the shallows, waiting and watching, Jeff caught a decent wave, Dave and Graham waiting out for the bigger ones.  Emma was atop her board beside her brother talking about something, while Graham was no doubt flirting with Ruby, leaning in towards the brunette laughing and smiling at her.
Killian felt a pang of jealousy, he had never had an issue finding a lass for an evening, but not the one he wanted. Too bad it would never happen, he looked over at him catching Emma's sparkling green eyes roving over him. His ears felt hot, she was staring at him trying terribly to hide it, but he had just caught her giving him a look he had only fantasized about a thousand times, and then she looked away, acting like it never happened.
Shit, he totally caught her looking, flushing red Emma spun her board and began paddling away from the group to sit in the lull. Emma tried her hardest never to appear interested or overly friendly towards Killian, she loved her brother but some of his stories about the brothers Jones and their way with the ladies hit a little too close to home for her and getting her heart broken was not something she wanted to experience.
Emma's deepest secret was that she had pined after Killian for three years, three long years. He only got hotter, and it never fucking helped. Aside from some flirtations, and a few drunken close encounters, he had never actually crossed a line. He was 19, she was 17, not too much of an age difference and she was just a few months shy of 18, but obviously he didn't see her as anything except his friend’s little sister.
Dammit, she said shaking herself out of it, focusing on the caps headed her way, she saw a wave rolling in, she got ready, "catch it Em" Dave yelled through his cupped hands. She nodded at him charging forward toward it and quickly stood up, she felt the familiar tilt in her balance. She spread out, and felt her board take off. She kept herself steady, railing the shoulder and locked in, riding it out with a giant smile on her face.
Killian duckdove and paddled towards the break to join the group. Emma was sitting atop her board facing them in the shallows, a smile on her face, and David clapped and hollered at his sister. She just waved her hand and called out pointing "party", the group spun and started charging hard, it was going to a fun one Killian thought. He could hear Ruby laughing as she got in position, "party time boys", and winked at him smiling. They were off, Ruby went first, followed by Graham and David, when they all rode it out Killian was the last to return to the shallows. "That was bitchin" Ruby said, Emma laughed and nodded.
Emma’s skin was wet and glistening in the sunlight, her yellow bikini practically see through, her nipples were puckered, and Killian could easily see those freckles on her breasts that drove him mad. Killian felt the blood rush to his groin and quickly spun his board heading back out, and away from the purest form of temptation. He caught a few more waves, and kept going until his muscles began protesting.
The group had reconvened on the beach on their blankets, and he made his way over to them. "Catch Jones", Emma called, and a sandwich hit him square in the chest. " Thanks Swan" and he winked at Emma. He had begun calling her that a few summers back, her long graceful neck reminded him of a swan and after a night of drinking he told her just that and she let it slide.
He sat beside Dave and tucked into the lunch the Nolan’s mom had sent for them. Dave and Emma had a great mom, Ruth Nolan was essentially the matriarch of their little rag tag group. Their mother, their rule enforcer, their caretaker. She watched over each of them, and as a single mom of two, she openly accepted each of them as if they were her own.
He watched Dave look at his watch, " It's 3 Em, work in an hour", she nodded and grabbed her bag. "Alright, catch you guys later" and she stood throwing her towel over her shoulder, not bothering to dress, and looked to Ruby. "I’ll catch a ride with Graham and Dave, head over around 8?" she said, and Emma nodded looking to Graham who also nodded at Emma.
Emma leaned forward and kissed Dave on the top of his head, he patted her hand. "Later". She bent again and grabbed her board, and Killian watched her head towards the lot where her sunshine yellow VW bus was parked, leaning her board against it. Killian made a snap decision, "hey I'm going to see if Em will drop me at the apartment before Liam gets off. Catch you guys later? I'll see if he wants to come." Dave nodded, "head over for dinner if you guys want, we won’t be here much longer", Killian nodded and grabbed his board hightailing it for the lot.
"Swan", came a shout. Emma looked up, "Hey" her heart fluttering in her chest. "Can you drop me on your way?" She nodded, "You working today? "Nah, I just want to try to catch Liam when he gets off, see if he wants to join us tonight", she nodded. "C'mon Jones, hop in" she said with a smile. Killian was assaulted with the scent of her in the small sun warmed space, she rolled down the window, and he followed suit.
The scent of her suntan oil, saltwater and sunshine was heaven. Her hair was like spun gold drying in wind swept ringlets, and his fingers itched to sink into it and pull her to him. Instead, he fiddled with the radio knobs until he found a station he liked.
Emma sang along with Don Mclean on the radio, sitting atop her beach towel in only her bikini still. Killian kept his eyes focused out the window until she pulled in front of his complex. He hopped out quickly, and slid the side door open to grab his board and towel, "see you later Swan?" "If you're lucky" she said. "Any time I'm graced with your presence, I'm lucky", and he instantly regretted the words that spilled out, unable to force them unspoken and back into his brain.
Her cheeks turned pink, the blush creeping down to her chest. "Maybe later?” and winked at him before she pulled away. He stood on the sidewalk awestruck, did she flirt back? Did that actually happen?
He watched her bus turn the corner, and shook his head, lost in thought up the three flights of steps to their flat. He hopped into the shower rinsing his suit off and hanging it up to dry on the towel bar and scrubbed down. Thoughts of Emma and her wet yellow bikini flooded his mind. Her laugh, the sparkle of her green eyes, the look she gave him earlier, watching her lean body out in the waves today, his cock was at full attention.
He took himself in hand, gripping hard, he imagined if he untied those thin straps of her swimsuit, her full tan breasts with rosy pink tips, he knew the outline of them to make this fantasy real enough, her scent still in his nose, he heard her sighs as he would kiss his way down her long slender neck, kissing over her collarbones, over each constellation of freckles he had begun identifying years ago, until he would suck each pink tip into his mouth.
Her fingers would slide into his hair, scraping his scalp, her small gasps escaping as he wound her up, he pumped himself harder, he imagined sliding her bottoms off and cupping her perfect ass in his hands pulling her against his hard cock, her tongue chasing his, and he felt his orgasm brewing like a storm. He pictured her dropping to her knees, and slipping those beautiful pink lips over his cock, taking him fall the way in to her throat, he gasped, his breath quickening, he could almost feel her small hands sliding over his cock as she pumped his licking over his slit, he pumped himself furiously, he felt a rush as he kept going, pushing through his orgasm, his seed shooting hard ropes against the cool tile he was braced against breathing heavily.
His forehead tipped forward and he leaned there, the hot water now running cool down his back. Fuck he said harshly, his blood humming, what the fuck was he going to do? He was so screwed. She had said maybe later, like a question. Did she want him to make a move on her? What the hell would Dave do if he did?
Emma was old enough, and he had seen her with a few guys over the last few years. But could it be possible she wanted him just as much as he wanted her? He barely registered getting dressed when he heard Liam walked in and came out of his room to see his brother collapsed on the couch.
“Rough day?” Killian asked his brother. “Long day, but possibly good? I don’t even know if that makes any sense little brother” and he mumbled into the pillow on their small couch. “Want a beer?” Killian offered, his brother just nodded, and Killian went to fetch one. “The Nolan’s invited us for dinner, you wanna come?” Liam nodded yes into the pillows where he remained face down. Killian just laughed sinking into a chair in the corner near their bookshelf.
“I need a shower Liam said, and got up, taking his beer with him into the bathroom, and started the shower. “The water is cold” he shouted, and Killian laughed. “It wasn’t very warm for me either” he said loudly, lying, and grateful his brother couldn’t see the shade of pink that his face was now covered in. Liam strode out a few moments later and pointed at him. “Is the bill paid?” “Aye” but we share a tank with the lads across the hall, so my guess is that we just weren’t fast enough to catch it”, Liam shook his head and said nothing.
Killian let Liam dress, and grabbed his skateboard. Liam grabbed his, and the two of them skated the few blocks over to the Nolan’s house, entering through the small garden gate. They shared a truck of their own, mainly for Liam to get to work down at the harbor, but it was just more enjoyable to ride their boards towards the Nolan’s.
David and Rob were sitting on the porch swing, robs girlfriend Regina sitting in a rocking chair leafing through a magazine. “Hey guys” she said sweetly. Regina was a year or two older than them and worked for a small local magazine as a writer, but her and Robin had been together since high school. She was a genuinely nice person, Rob worked a few odd jobs around town, lifeguard at the beach, swim coach at the YMCA, and was a hell of a surfer.
“You missed a party today Rob” Killian said, and Robin frowned, “Damn, who led?” he asked. “Ruby surprisingly. She is getting pretty good thanks to Hunt” and Dave barked out a laugh shaking his head.
Regina laughed too, “I was wondering when he would make his move on her, it took him long enough” she said. Killian smiled, they all knew the two of them were never as sneaky as they thought they were, but Ruby was happy and Graham was in love with her for years, so he was just happy it worked out.
“Gina, is Mary Margaret coming?” Dave asked. “Her and Emma are both working tonight, their shift ends at 9 I think”, still leafing through the magazine. “Here” she tossed the magazine into Robs lap, that was the competition I was talking about”. Robin leaned forward, reading it quickly, Killian and Liam looked at Dave who shrugged.
“Surfing competition is coming to the cove in two weeks, we should enter” Rob said. Groans from each of them spilled out. “What? We all love doing it, why not try to make some cash from it for once?” he said.
“If everyone agrees, and that’s Emma and Ruby included, I am in” Dave said. Killian nodded in agreement. “If Emma and Ruby agree to what?” came a voice from the screen door.
Ruth Nolan stepped out onto her porch; Dave immediately got up offering his mom his seat on the swing. She patted his cheek lovingly and did the same to each of them before taking her seat. “Liam you look too thin, I need to feed you better”, he rolled his eyes at her “Ruth I am a man, I feed myself just fine”, but smiled. “I’ll be the judge of that” she said with a warm smile.
“So, what will Emma and Ruby be agreeing to?” their matriarch asked. Regina piped in, “there’s a surfing competition, I think they should enter as a team, I think they could win it if they wanted to”. Ruth nodded, “wont they need a sponsor?” she asked.
“I might be able to get the magazine to sponsor but hitting up some of the surf shops would be a good place to ask around too” Regina said. Ruth looked at Dave, “If I had the money to spare, I would offer honey, but this one you’ll have to handle on your own”. Dave smiled, “no worries Ma, if they want to do it, we will figure it out together” and Ruth nodded.
“Speaking of which, Em still at work?” Ruth asked. “Til 9 I think” Regina said, my sister mentioned that her and Emma were working together tonight. Ruth nodded again. “Well let’s eat, I am famished, already set Emma’s aside so let’s go dig in, and all her little ducklings as she fondly referred to them as followed her into the house setting about in their tasks of setting the table, getting glasses, cutlery, napkins, and seated themselves in a circle as best as they could in the small room.
A few blocks over Emma was seated on a stool at the counter at Rae’s, a small local diner. Mary Margaret, one of her best friends was behind the counter making up a milkshake, which she poured and delivered, giving Emma the remains in the steel cup with a straw. Emma sucked it down, thinking about Killian. Why did he say that to her, why did she respond, and wink? Christ, she was an idiot.
“Penny for your thoughts Em?” the brunette asked sweetly. Emma eyed her, Mary Margaret knew Emma’s secret love for the Irishman, and she never blabbed about it.
“I drove him home and he said something today, and it confused me, and I flirted back and it made it even more confusing M”. “Honey, he has been in love with you for years, I noticed ages ago, but neither of you actually ever act on it, so I doubt that it complicated anything” she smiled at Emma.
Emma sucked the remains of the shake out of the cup sliding it back to her friend who dumped it in the bin below the counter. “What’s the plan after work?” she asked. “I think Ruby is heading up here in a bit, then we will go out, wanna come?” Mary Margaret flushed, “ok” was all she said.
“Its fine M, I know you like him, and he likes you, its fine, even though its my brother, its fine” and assessed her friend. Mary Margaret flushed, and just shook her head, “well we shall see, but I am not putting hope into anything”. Emma just nodded.
The bell over the door rang, and the two women looked to the door. Ruby walked in, Graham in tow and they waved setting up next to Emma at the counter. “You guys done already?” she asked Emma. “Nah, just my break”. Ruby nodded, “Well I am starving” she said, and Emma notices a very defined hickey on her neck near her collarbone.
Emma stood up and leaned into her ear, “it appears I know why Ruby Lucas”, and Ruby gave her a wolfish grin and winked at her with eyes sparkling. Graham groaned “Just leave it be Em, alright?”
“Sure, Hunt just don’t hurt her, or M will be calling me to help her hide a body” she said with a little snark. He barked out a laugh, “that’s what is the scariest part, she is the most lethal of you three” and they all laughed.
Dave got a call from Will who decided that he was throwing a party at his little beach shack, so they ate quickly and cleaned up dinner. Dave made his way to Emma’s room and grabbed a bag of clothes she had packed up off her bed.
“Ma, we are heading out to Wills”, Ruth nodded as she did her crossword puzzle, “Don’t” “forget to take Emma’s bag, I know I got it” and he raised it in his arm as proof. She nodded, “all of you be careful” and waved them out the front door.
Killian offered to head to Rae’s with Dave to pick Swan and Mary Margaret up, the rest of them headed towards Wills in Regina’s car. When Dave parked in an open spot, a flash of blonde hair whipped into view, balancing a tray on her arm as she roller skated towards a car parked a few over.
Killian took in her work uniform, Knee high socks, roller skates, long lean legs in short white cut off denim shorts, and a red tee shirt. Her hair was back in a ponytail and high on her head, the curls long and cascading down her back.
David headed towards the front door of the diner, and Killian caught Emma’s eye nodding in greeting. She shot him a huge smile, and then he watched her lean forward onto the patrons car. She was flirting with the guy driving, and for some reason it bothered him. She twirled her ponytail as he watched her blow a gum bubble listening and smiling at the driver.
By the time Killian entered in, and sat down next to Dave and Ruby, Mary Margaret had appeared with a strawberry milkshake for Ruby, and a vanilla one for Dave. “Oi, what am I? Chopped liver?” he asked in jest.
Mary Margaret slid a metal cup towards him with a children’s curly straw, “a manly milkshake for a manly man” she joked back. He nodded, “this is more like it” as he began drinking the chocolate shake.
He had one eye on the door, waiting to see Emma, but she hadn’t come in yet. “She does it for the tips you know", Mary Margaret said slyly. He caught her eyes, “I don’t know what you mean” he stuttered.
“Sure, you don’t Jones, maybe you should make a move and see” M winked at him, making a hasty exit.

Ayama POV
My alarm starts going off. I groan at it then shut it off. It's was a Sunday. I was wondering why I turned it on. I lied in my bed for a bit then it hit me. I wanted to torture myself today. By going on a walk on the beach.
I felt four paws on my thigh. "Morning, Nebula." I said. "Meow" "I'll get up." I told her. I stretched a bit. I took my bonnet off and got out the bed.
Once my feet hit the carpet. I walk towards my closest and pick out something simple and plain. I then went in the bathroom and set my clothes down on the counter and closed the door.
I got undress and put my shower cap on. And got in the shower. Once I was done in the bathroom. I walk out wearing a black tank top, a black crop top hoodie that I could only wear if I have a tank top under it. And black leggings.
I walked back into my room and went straight back to sleep. I woke up about 10 minutes later. Leo woke me up this time. "Okay, Okay." I sighed.
Knowing my dad already went out the house to help the other pro heroes with the exam that coming up tomorrow. I turn on the TV in my room, but all I found was news channel or ads talking about the exam.
I turned it off and went downstairs to get cereal not wanting to make pancakes or french toast. I pass a picture of my mother and father.
I stopped to look at it for awhile. I've seen some pictures of my mother. The rest are kept somewhere in my father's room.
She's Afro-Asian. She passed away when I was 3. I never met my grandpa or my grandmother from my mother side. They're villians after all.
I seen my mother's family members in Texas and some in California. We visit them sometimes whenever it's a holiday like Christmas or Thanksgiving. I've also seen my dad's family members other than his sister. He never told me why she not in my life. And tellsl me it best if I don't meet her.
Anyways, my mother's hair is natural black(or very very dark brown that looks black). Her hair was long and wavy in the first picture. Our hair same the same features. Our hair type can and it grows fast after a week or two. Her eyes were like mine, but her eyes colorare lavender and mines lilac.
Her skin is dark brown and it's very beautiful. I can't help but admire her. She also has some yellow sparkle across her face. They looked like stars. It's apart of one of her Quirks. Her eyes color and lavender.
She had four dark brown gazelle horns on her head and her gazelle ears were showing. Her body was well mature. I guess like mine though I never really care about my shape really. She has two of her horns wavy and the other two curly wrapping around the other white horns.
Her costume in the third was her in a long sleeve black crop top and black pants with gold medal plates around the rims of them. Her high combat boots were black. And finally she had a gold medal choker around her neck with the sun symbol in the middle of it.
(Considering her Quirks she doesn't really need a bold hero outfit.)
In the second picture her hair is long and was in a kinky fro she didn't show her horns. Despite her time being alive she was one of the top number ten heroes. I walked away from the picture to go eat.
"Leo! Nebula!" I watch the two come into the kitchen and go to their bowls. Turns out it was already filled. They just wanted me with them.
From what my Dad told me. He got them for my mom when it was her birthday. So the cats been in my life the moment they brought me home.
I keep thinking about the exam tomorrow. I wonder who I would see. Once I was done eating I decided to clean the house. I did every room but my dad's.
I decided to go down to the beach, because I don't want to stay in the house all day and game. I text my dad and inform him about my whereabouts.
Tumblr media
I put 20 dollar into my phone case and put my phone in my pocket. And went near the door to put my shoes on.
Tumblr media
Now that I'm here. I'm just going walk along the shore. Although it strange to be wearing this on a hot day. I honestly don't really care. I have my reasons.
I walk towards the beach and decided to walk along the shore. While doing that I saw Izuku jogging along the shore. Geeze he grown a lot. "Izuku!" I shouted. It doesn't seem like he can hear me so I tried calling out to him one more time. He didn't so I followed him.
I see him almost out of breath. "I finish what you asked." He said while breathing heavily. I look up to see he was talking to. I saw Uncle All Might, but I didn't say anything, because I didn't want to say about me being relate to my dad.
"Oh hey n-Ayama!" And that was a close call. "Wait?... Ayama!" Izuku shouts. "I been calling your name for the last minute." I spoke. I saw him blush a bit, but I ignore it. Not really sure why.
"Wait is it okay for her to see you like this?" He ask my uncle All Might. "Oh yeah. Before you I had told her about it, but she turned it down saying I should give to someone who doesn't have a quirk." He told him.
"Oh so that means you also know about 'The one for all' Right?" Izuku ask me. "That right, freckles." I giggled. "Freckles? BAHAHA!" Uncle All Might laugh blood coming out of his mouth.
Izuku was freaking out about it. I seen this before but I was just gross out. "Alright you can take a break. Oh by the way can you me a popsicle?" He asked me. "Sure."
"Come on Izuku! We have a lot of catching up to do." I shouted. He rush up to me as we went to the small market near the beach. Which lead you back to the roads and sidewalks.
We were talking about what the news were talking about. "I wish I could've been with you guys. Mostly to tell Katsuki to stop." I said with guilt.
"It's nothing to be guilty about." He said reassuring me. "To make it up to you can get what ever you want from the market just try not to go overboard." I said.
"Ayama you don't have to." He said waving his hands. "I insist." I tell him. "Your kindness never change a bit Ayama." He said. He right and that was a bad thing in middle school, but it not like it ever left me. I got myself a soda, Izuku got a chocolate mint ice cream bar, and I got uncle All Might a ice pop of himself.
"That would be 4 dollars, Ms." The cashier tells me. I paid her. She gave me my chain back. I thank her we both left walking back towards my uncle.
"So I'm guessing after today your finally getting your quirk."I said. He nodded while holding the bag in his hand.
"Oh I'd never asked you what are your quirk?" He asked me. "I have two of them, but their both complicated." I said. "Oh I see." He said. "Don't worry you'll get to see me in action at the exams." I cheer him up. Once we got the spot again.
"I want to be surprised that you're eating a popsicle of your self, but I'm not." I sighed. "It a hot day. I have every right." My uncle said. Leaving me and Izuku giggling and snickering. "Hey! What's so funny?!"
They went back to training and I decided to help uncle out with training. The fun part was Midoriya going on his back while doing push up. "I'm sorry Midoriya." I muttered. I spent almost the whole day with them. It was about 7:00pm
"Welp I better get going." I said. Me grabbing my soda bottle. "I'm guessing I'll see you at the exam?" I asked him. My uncle interrupt him "Oh yeah definitely!" I just sighed. "See you later Midoriya!" I shouted waving at them both.
I while walking towards my house I notice a teenager with ash blond hair that was spiky but looked soft. "I wonder if that could be... No. I doubt he would even remember me."

'Well that was a fast walk.' Dad's Car was park in the driveway, so that meant he has came back. I open the door and then lock it behind me. I took my shoes off and left them at the door. "Lyric." My dad spoke. I jumped a bit. "Oh hey Dad." I said. "You seem lost in thought." He said.
"Oh yeah just a song came in my head. Although the melody was a bit strange." I spoke. "But who's know when I'll be using it." I shrugged my shoulders while walking towards the kitchen to go sit at the dinner table. It's was quite, but comfortable. I was just lost in my mind.
I got up from the dinner table and went towards the kitchen sink. That melody it sounded familiar, but I never heard it before.
I felt a hit on my hand. "Ouch, Dad!" I whined. "Next time, pay attention." He sighed. "What do you- Oh." I saw the dish I washing now broken in half.
"My bad." I mutter throwing it away in the trash. "Alright what was the lyric this time?" He ask. This isn't the first time this has happened. "Help me when I'm at a loss for words. Bring up all of my memories for the please and the temporal." I said.
"Don't give it too much though. If you go to sleep You'll have nothing to worry about." He said. He always does that. Brushes it off like it's nothing. "Alright, night Dad." I said.
"Good night and good luck tomorrow." He said. That right he won't be here when I wake up. I took a quick shower got into my PJs setting an alarm on my phone to wake up at 6:00am.
"I'm going to get a new bonnet. I can't stand this one. It's always falling off." I muttered.
The moment I closed my eyes. I saw someone with long wavy natural black hair and two gazelle brown horns and ears. I woke up and got out of bed and went straight downstairs to look at my mom's photos.
"I thought I told you to go to bed." My dad said. "Technically, you suggested it." I said. I'm still looking at my mother pictures.
"Bed. And I mean it." He said strictly. "Alright, alright." I said. Going straight to bed this time got it. I look at the clock it was 8:30pm.
"Just one question. Why do I have to go to bed this early?" [Ayama]
"Because you'll end up like me if you don't." [Aizawa]

“John B, what are we doing at the police station?” JJ asked, breaking the stuffy silence that was consuming the vehicle.
“Somebody’s gotta tell them what happened.” He justified.
“Need me to come in, like, as a witness?” you asked. He shook his head.
The heavy quiet was broken by Pope, coughing like he’d inhaled chili powder. “Easy there, chief.” JJ reprimanded, and you took the blunt away from your friend. “Alright,” JJ leaned through to John B, “I’m just gonna be real with you right now,” You watched his red cap, “You might end up in the lion’s den, but you don’t go there on purpose. It’s fundamental, just like my old man always told me, you should never, ever trust cops. No matter what the circumstance is.”
“Your old man’s an abusive liar.” Kie countered.
“I agree with JJ.” Pope spoke, and you frowned, holding back the giggle in your lips as he continued, “Fuck the police.”
“You going to the dark side now?” Kie snarked.
“When was the last time the police ever helped us?” He countered.
“Peterkin looked out for me, alright?” John B interrupted, “Or tried to, at least.”
There was a moment of thick quiet before he continued.
“They need to know.”
He looked around, none of you willing to argue as he got out of the car and entered the station. You looked over to JJ, who was determinedly ignoring your stare. You wondered what the fuck was going on because last time you checked, you had been on good terms with him. You sighed, looking out the window and waiting impatiently for John B to return so that the awkward silence would end. You took a hit from the blunt you’d taken from Pope, letting the smoke swirl around in your lungs before gently blowing it out, ignoring the frustrated looks you got from the other three.
Next thing you knew, everyone was shouting and the car was accelerating, the officer trying to open the car door discarded as the shocking adrenaline rush took ahold of the speeding car. Eyes wide, you took another hit from the blunt.
--
“Good news for residents of the Outer Banks, Dominion Power says their underwater transmission line, which will restore power to 95% of the area, should be functional within 24 hours.”
Sirens passed, but in the hazy atmosphere of the car, no one moved, other than to make sure the car didn’t turn. Pope and Kie sat in the front, JJ and John B to your right, seats reclined as you all attempted whatever kind of rest was possible on the worried heat of the day.
“And still no arrest for the shooting death of Sheriff Susan Peterkin. The state police have issued a statement regarding a local person of interest, a juvenile from-”
Kie clicked the radio off, glancing over at the three of you in the back.
“Let’s game this out.” JJ suggested, “Maybe you guys can help, being the smart ones and all, but… who are the cops going to believe? Ward Cameron or us? So the accuser is a big shot developer, kind of lord of the island, got the governor on speed dial kind of person, and the accused…” he looked over to his friend, “is John B, who is pretty much a homeless 16-year-old boy at the moment.”
“Thanks.” came the hoarse voice of the boy across from you.
“Shit.” you muttered, running a hand over your face and sitting up straight for the first time in hours. You twisted so that your back was leaning on the back oh Kie’s seat, and you were facing the three boys.
“Okay, man, Yucatan, alright?” JJ said, swiftly avoiding your arm as you stretched, “I’m saying, that’s the only option, what other option do you have?”
“Enough with the Mexico bullshit.” John B shook his head. “Sarah’s gonna bail me out.”
“She did witness the whole thing.” Kie pointed out.
“So did I?” you reminded, “So what? She’s gonna snitch on her brother for her dick appointment of the week? No offence, bro.”
“It’s not happening.” JJ reiterated, “We’ve gotta get you off the island.”
“The ferry.” Pope said, “It’s the only way.”
“Exit stage left while you still can.” JJ added. “Before the entire island is on lockdown.”
“Get down.” You reminded him softly, and you all ducked. You reached for JJ’s hand, but his simple gesture of pulling it away made you feel embarrassed, unsure of whatever was going on between you. You turned away from him, looking out the window again.
“Sarah’s not a pogue, John B.” Pope reminded.
“Yeah, you can’t stay here, man.”
“Let’s go then.” You muttered, and Pope pulled out, driving carefully to the docks. They were crowded, and you got out before anyone could argue, thankful for even two minutes out of the suffocating atmosphere. You walked to the sign, reading the notice about the ferry closure and ripping the wanted poster off its staples. You walked back to the car, reading it as you reached the vehicle, then passing it through Pope’s window and shaking your head solemnly. You got in next to JJ as they passed the paper around, JJ making a joke.
“Okay, so the whole island’s looking for John B right now.” Pope said.
“Well at least you know how much you’re worth.” You joked, receiving a frustrated look from Kie.
“Congratulations, John B,” JJ smirked, “you’re famous.”
“We gotta get to the HMS. We need small, no running lights-” kie began to reason, but John B cut her off.
“It’s at the Chateau, Kie.”
“And I wonder if the cops have got the entire place staked out.” JJ said, voice dripping with sarcasm, “Let me think. Yeah, no, they definitely have that place locked down.”
“Hey Jay?” you nudged him, an idea forming, “Like, a couple of weeks ago, you mentioned your dad’s boat? The Ghost? Spectre?”
“The Phantom!” JJ and Pope caught on.
“He still got it?” Pope asked.
“Maybe.”
“You could get that right up the coast, no problem.” Pope said.
Bickering followed, and then the sudden realisation that Pope’s car was on the poster. Suddenly, someone was hitting the window and the car wasn’t starting and everyone was shouting. The car lurched forwards, straight into another car, and then took off, driving away as people watched, shocked.
The car sped forwards, crashing around as you all shouted for Pope to stop, his high ass was definitely not fit for driving.
“JB,” you shouted over everyone, “you need to get out.”
Pope braked, all of you thrust forwards with the force of it, and you found yourself pushing John B out of the car while JJ shouted instructions at him.
--
The two field tents were massive, rows of chairs on either side as swarms of people worked, talked, and typed. You wandered around for a minute or so, watching the officers interact, always being pushed back when you tried to talk to anyone. You could feel the eyes of the security team burning into you as you looked for Shoupe. Eventually, you saw him, talking to a taller man in an SBI windbreaker. You walked towards them slowly, finalising your plan in your head.
Shoupe saw you, and stepped aside from the conversation so that he was facing you, the agent turning as well, a frown forming as he took in your scruffy attire and the faint smell of JJ’s weed that was clinging to your clothes. You looked between them, “Uh, Officer Shoupe, I have some info.” You greeted.
“Who are you?” The agent interrupted, looking you over again.
“Um, I’m Y/N Y/L/N, I know John B.” you clarified, and he nodded.
“What have you got for us?” he asked, and you breathed in, and out, pinching yourself slightly.
“I saw everything on the airstrip.”
The SBI agent introduced himself as Bratcher, then they sat you down in one of the tents, letting you explain what you saw, uninterrupted, and asking questions when they saw fit. They told you that your account, while plausible, was a hard one to argue, especially against Ward Cameron, unless you had a second account to back it up.
Sarah Cameron, you thought. Talk to Sarah.
After taking your statement, they left you to sit in the field tent, shivering in the cold breeze and no coat, watching them call your dad, listening out for any relevant information you could gather.
You could feel their eyes on you, discussing what to do with the information you had for them. An officer, you couldn’t remember her name, had draped a jacket over your shoulders at some point, then led you away while the SBI agent gave a briefing.
You waited at the end of the tent, looking for anything to cease your worry and boredom.
Then you saw her. She looked as lost as you had, trying to work out who to talk to, just like you had a few hours ago. You stepped towards her.
“Sarah?” she turned to you, going to hug you, but an armed officer stepped between you, pulling you apart. “No, she’s my friend!” you struggled towards her, another officer holding her away from you, both of you shouting.
“What’s happening?” Bratcher asked, all of you stopped struggling.
“This is Sarah Cameron,” you explained, “she was there, like I said.”
He looked between you, and nodded, asking her if she was able to make a statement. They took her away, sitting her down at the other end of the tent, letting her talk. You saw Ward approaching.
“Y/N?” he frowned, and you raised your eyebrows.
“How do you know who I am?”
“Sarah’s mentioned you.” he looked around, “have you seen her?”
“Oh, is she no longer locked away in her room?” He tensed, confusion and anger contorting his features.
“How do you know about that?”
“Can’t say.” You said, “Not a great parenting strategy, just saying.”
He leapt forwards, a madness in his eyes that you’d never seen before. He grabbed you by the throat, screaming in your face while you clawed at his grip. Within seconds, other bodies were pulling him away. Your panic subsided, and you looked at Bratcher. You could use the situation to your advantage.
“See what I mean?” you yelled, pointing at him as you faced Bratcher, “He’s crazy! I told you, he attacked Big John, he’s the reason this is all happening!”
Bratcher sighed, signalling for his men to take away the older man. “I have to say, Miss Y/L/N, your story is making more sense. Two stories matching perfectly, his temper. But we talked to your father, you’re free to go, we’re almost done with Sarah.”
“What’s going to happen to John B?”
He sighed, “We’ve gotta bring him in, you understand that.”
You nodded, “I hope I shed some truth to the situation.”
You walked away, leaving the jacket on a chair as you passed, sending a reassuring smile to Sarah on your way out, you wandered the streets, finding your way to JJ’s house.
By some kind of miracle, you arrived at the same time as Kie and JJ. He was getting out of the car when he noticed you, and instead of making any move to hug you as normal, he froze.
“Look, JJ,” you sighed. “Why are you mad at me?”
You stood opposite him in his front yard, staring at the way he sighed, an odd mix of relief and defeat adorning his features. “I saw some texts, from Tyler.”
You nodded slowly. “I rejected him, if that’s what upset you. Since I met you, no guys have been the same, you know?”
His eyes pulled in slightly, as if realising that maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t one-sided. “Did you sleep with him?”
“Yeah.” you glanced at the floor, “I don’t really know why. Things were weird between us and I just - I missed my old life. But it was like, the confirmation I needed.”
“What do you mean?”
“I love you.”
His jaw dropped slightly in shock, running you words over in his head, working out whether you were genuine. You began to step back, and before you could think about what had just happened, he was kissing you.
It was urgent, emotive, full of everything that you couldn’t put into words. You broke apart, still slightly shocked at the confession. You looked at his front door.
“Do you want me to come with you?”
He looked to Kie, who was pretending she hadn’t watched, and nodded apprehensively, slipping a hand into yours and leading you to the door. He opened it, leading you through into the mess. You stepped over shoes and bottles as he led you in, calling out for his dad.
You ventured into the living room, seeing his dad passed out on the sofa, a half empty bottle of something on the table next to him. “Dad, I need the keys to the Phantom.” a snore sounded, “Dad?”
You looked down, noticing the sleeping pills and picking them up, showing the bottle to the blond boy next to you. Watching him, you could practically feel the hurt resonating off him, masked by his strong resolution as he looked back at his dad. Noticing the chain around his neck, between you you found a pencil and pin to get the keys with.
You stood a couple of feet behind him as he knelt down, preparing himself.
“Well, I didn’t expect to see you.”
The voice was a murmur, almost soft, and your heart was beating in your throat. You knew what he was capable of.
“You’re back.”
This time, Luke had more clarity in his voice, and was more awake. He hadn’t noticed you yet.
“Just checkin’ in.” JJ said, backing away as the older man sat up, taking a swig from a beer bottle.
“School out already?”
“What?” JJ frowned.
“Did you ditch? It’s alright, you can tell me.”
JJ nodded slowly, “Yeah. I hit the break, you know?”
“I hated school too. My boy!” Luke chuckled. You felt intrusive, like you were standing in on a moment that wasn’t yours to see. But the moment felt intimate, hitting you where it hurt as your eyes went glassy. “You know what? Listen, hey.” he stood shakily, “Hey, look, I know I’m hard on you sometimes.” JJ hummed, fear mixing into his pain, “But sometimes I - I see your mother in you, and it gets me a little tweaked, you know?”
You wiped a tear away, the scene before you hurting more than you would like to admit. The man looked at you, and you could see JJ’s shoulders tense.
“You got a girl?” he didn’t look away from you.
“Uh, yeah, Y/N.” JJ looked over at you, worry seeping into his eyes.
“You treat my boy better than I could, okay?” You nodded slowly, more tears slipping down your face.
“Of course.” your voice broke slightly, “I love him.”
“Me too.” His head turned back to his son, “I love you, son.” He pulled JJ in, “Come here, I love you. I love you, son. I love you.”
More than anything, you wanted to call him out. Tell him that if that was true, then he wouldn’t hurt JJ like he did. But whatever this moment was, it wasn’t the right one to do so.
You could hear JJ sniffling, letting his hands find their way onto his father’s back. When he spoke, he sounded like he wanted to be stronger than he felt, his voice thick, pained, struggling. “Love you too, Dad. I’m sorry.”
“Ain’t got nothing to be sorry for.” His father muttered, the sleeping pills pulling him back out of consciousness, slowly as ever. JJ helped him down onto the sofa. “You’re a good boy.” came the murmur.
JJ let out a shaky breath, not sparing you a glance as he pulled the chain from his father’s neck and stepped away. He looked back at you, almost embarrassed to have let you see him in such a vulnerable state. He turned to leave, your voice came out as a hoarse whisper.
“JJ, you don’t always have to be strong, you know that, right?”

“How can you drink that stuff?”
Lucie Herondale & Matthew Fairchild
Lucie was having a very very very awful night. She was exhausted, having been up until 5 A.M. that morning with Grace Blackthorn, combing through giant, dusty volumes of black magic in the absolutely wretched Chiswick House. Lucie did not know how Jesse even beared to haunt the place; let alone how Grace managed to live there before she was taken in by the Bridgestocks. From the shattered glass that littered the floor to the dried blood and ichor that still coated the walls, just spending a few hours there each night made Lucie’s skin crawl.
It was particularly bad that night, as she and Grace had begun reading through the books about necromancy Tatiana had collected in the years since Jesse had died. Lucie had a theory that some of the books were simply binded in slime instead of cloth and Jesse had grumbled about the way it coated her hands when she latched onto him and requested he take her back to the Institute. “Really?” He questioned her, one dark eyebrow quirking upwards. “I have told you not to bother messing around with those awful books. Of course, you ignore me and instead come and cover me in slime.”
Lucie rolled her eyes, “You are a ghost, Jesse. I couldn’t cover you in slime even if I wanted to. Which, the way you are acting, I really would love to. Now, Jesse Blackthorn, I command you to bring me home.”
With a swoosh that knocked the breath from her lungs, she and Jesse landed in her room at the Institute. Immediately, Jesse stepped back from her grasp and with a single irate look in her direction, vanished.
It was the same routine every night, she would summon Jesse to take her to Chiswick House to meet Grace and he would try to refuse, but Lucie would demand it and he was unable to defy her, due to her powers. Of course, she felt bad about demanding Jesse to do things that were against his wishes, but she couldn’t risk making Jessamine do it as the chance that she would slip and say something to Lucie’s family was too great. So, Lucie let Jesse be angry with her. She only hoped he would forgive her when she finally succeeded in bringing him back.
Lucie had made for her bed and was just about to flop down onto the welcoming coverlet when she remembered that she was coated in a layer of slime and dust. With a groan, she let out a very unlady-like word.
Lucie decided she must have the worst luck in the entire world, as her father was up unusually early that morning. He was passing by her bedroom on the way to his office just in time to hear her shout the expletive. “Lulu?” Her father’s concerned voice rang out from the other side of her door. “Is, uh, everything okay?”
Lucie was frozen in place. If her father came in and saw her in her filthy dress, he would have an abundance of questions she did not wish to answer. “Yes, Papa. I just… hit my toe on the bed frame.”
“Do you need an iratze? Should I call Uncle Jem?”
“No! No, it’s really okay, Papa. I am going to go back to sleep now,” Lucie called back through the door.
“Alright, bach. I will see you at breakfast.” Her father replied, his tone still uncertain. She was unable to hear his retreating footsteps through the thick, wooden door, so she remained unmoving another three or so minutes, when she finally let out her breath and began undressing.
Now, Lucie was slumped into a rich leather chair in the games room and her corset was poking her ribs uncomfortably. She was diligently avoiding the crowd that was assembled in the library for the weekly Enclave meeting, so she decided to hide in the games room down the hall from the ballroom as there was little chance of anyone finding her sulking here.
She had attempted to sit at her desk and work on The Beautiful Cordelia, but all she could think about while in her room was Jesse’s face before he had disappeared that morning. When she normally had writer’s block, Lucie would head to the library and try to lose herself amongst the pages of a book, but her beloved library was currently otherwise occupied. She also considered holing up in the training room, but somehow she found herself staring at the chessboard in the games room instead.
“Well, this is rather awkward,” a familiar voice drawled from the doorway. Without looking up she knew it belonged to Matthew. Undeterred by her not turning to look at him, he continued, “it was my plan to hide in here until the Enclave meeting was over.”
My wonderful luck strikes again, Lucie thought sourly to herself. Tilting her head to meet his eyes, Lucie regarded him for a moment. As always, Matthew was dressed impeccably. His shoes were unscuffed and shined. His trousers, which were a dark gray with a black pinstripe, were tailored perfectly. He seemed to have disregarded his jacket somewhere already and his waistcoat, made of an opulent spring green silk and embroidered with small yellow and purple flowers, shone against the white of his shirt. On anyone else, the waistcoat would’ve been gaudy, but Matthew made it look dashing - as he made everything look dashing.
The room was dim, as Lucie hadn’t bothered to turn on all of the witchlights other than the lamp that resided on the accent table beside her. Still, it projected enough light that she could see the flush that spread across his cheeks. That, combined with the way he was smiling lazily in her direction, Lucie knew he was drunk.
“I suppose you can join me, if you’d like,” she replied, gesturing to the chair adjacent to her. Wordlessly, he moved to flop down into the leather seat, identical to the one she was perched in.
“Why are you all the way down here?” He asked, raising an eyebrow. “I would’ve guessed that you would be using the bit of free time to write.”
She shrugged, “writer’s block.”
He nodded, and moved to pull his flask from the pocket of his waistcoat. Lucie watched him silently as he deftly unscrewed the top and took a swig. He was just about to replace the top when the words tumbled from her mouth, “could I have a sip?”
Matthew’s hands immediately stilled and his green eyes widened in surprise. Quickly regaining his composure, the green of his eyes turned stormy, “No! Absolutely not! If your brother or father found out I was supplying you with drink they would have my head.”
Lucie threw up her hands. “I am my own person, thank you very much!”
Matthew’s expression softened and he looked at her thoughtfully for a moment. The witchlight from the lamp between them caught his blonde locks and turned them into wisps of gold. Finally, he held the silver flask out to her. “Oh, alright. Go ahead, then.”
With a smile Lucie took the flask from his hands and eagerly gulped down some of the alcohol. Immediately, she regretted her choice. Just as quickly as she accepted it, she thrusted the flask away from herself as if it was on fire. “How can you drink that stuff?” She choked out, feeling as if her whole throat was burning.
Matthew laughed and removed the flask from her hand. Tipping his head back, he drank down more of the alcohol while Lucie watched in horror. When he was finished, he replaced the cap and slipped it back into its place in his waistcoat. “You get used to it,” he finally replied, with a shrug. After a moment of silence, his expression turned very serious, green eyes narrowing in her direction. “Lu, I want you to know I am always here to help you.”
It was a simple statement, but Lucie still felt a tension in her shoulders she didn’t even realize was there melting away at his words. Of course, there was no way she could tell him about Jesse or her late night work with Grace. Still, in that moment she felt recognized.
Lucie hated the fact it was so easy for her to sneak out to Chiswick House all night, nearly every night. She thought of all she could tell him; confessions about her work with Grace and problems with Jesse.
Instead, “thank you, Matthew,” was all she said, a slow smile spreading across her face. But perhaps the evening wasn’t completely awful after all.

Beautiful Time - h.rj ; Part 6 of 6 (End)
Tumblr media
Pairing - Vampire!Renjun x Reader
Genre - Mostly fluff with only some violence though it’s not serious
Warnings - Mentions of blood, description of feeding, slight violence
Summary - Vampires are creatures forced to walk upon the earth for longer than humans could possibly imagine. One would think it gets boring after a while, but not to Renjun, the foreign exchange student who seems to know a little too much about the early twentieth century.
Word Count - 4k
A/N - this marks the last installment of vampire!renjun, thank you for sticking me through my first series <3 stay tuned for the epilogue where i will be wrapping up their storylines
When you feel yourself waking up, the first thing you notice is just how dry and scratchy your throat is, causing you to remember the events from before Renjun persuaded you to sleep. You try to sit up but you are still tied up under the restraints, you sigh, instead opting to call out for Renjun and have him let you out.
“Renjun” you said, startling yourself as you heard it more like a shout, not used to your altered hearing. You hear him let out a surprised noise from behind you though not even a second passed before he was next to you.
“How are you feeling, love?” He asks you as he undid the restraints.
“Sensitive...and thirsty. Can I drink water? Or is that not a thing to us?”
Renjun let out a laugh as he shook his head while filling up a cup of water for you at the sink against the wall after you were freed of the straps. “Here, why don’t you see for yourself.” He offered you the cup, a sly smile creeping up on his face.
You sat up, taking the cup and drank from it, completely emptying it, but the water did nothing for your thirst. You look up at Renjun with wide eyes, his own maroon ones glinting with amusement. He raised his wrist up in front of you, cocking his eyebrow as if daring you to drink from him.
Just as your fingers made contact with his arms, you yelped as you felt a sudden warm electrifying type of shock. “That’s what I felt every single time I touched you,” Renjun stated, “that’s how I knew you were mine.”
You lay your fingers on his arm again, letting yourself get used to the feeling as it faded to a faint buzz in the back of your mind. You bring his wrist to your mouth, not sure what to do, even though you’ve watched Renjun do this countless times before. “Y/n,” he called out, his hand gripping your chin and bringing your eyes up to his own, “look at me. Focus on me.”
Your gaze locks with his as you let your mind cloud over with thoughts of him, many of which you were too embarrassed to speak aloud. You felt something sharp prodding at your bottom lip, forcing your mouth to open ever so slightly. Renjun smiles as he sees your fangs slowly extending, a feeling of pride filling his body.
He did the work for you as he pushed his wrist against your teeth, letting them nick his skin. The second his blood met your tongue, you were met again with the sweet addicting taste of it, not wanting to stop. You really wouldn’t have stopped because soon enough, your brain was colored with red and you couldn’t think of anything else.
You were broken out of your trance when Renjun pulls his arm away from your mouth, “that should be enough for now.” He stated, observing the little markings as they closed up. “They’re excited to meet you.”
“Who-- Oh, them.” You giggled as you momentarily forgot the existence of your other roommates. “I’m still the same person though.” You mused, wondering if you looked any different, not that you’d be able to see yourself anyways.
“Everyone is slightly different once they turn.” He explained to you as he helped you off the table. As your feet hit the floor and you allowed your body to carry its weight, you realized just how hyper-aware you were of everything. “Don’t think too much about it, it’s easy to get overloaded at first.” Renjun informed you, pushing your hair away from your face as he pressed a kiss to your nose.
You can feel the gusts of air flowing throughout the room, the shouts of the boys upstairs as they played a video game, the feeling of Renjun’s body against yours and his scent flooding your nostrils. Though you could also smell yourself causing confusion to cross your mind. You looked down at your clothes, still caked in dried blood and dirt, a small part of you feeling repulsed by the thought of how long you’ve been wearing them.
Before you could even mention it, Renjun was already handing you a stack of your own clothing, his other hand gripping the hem of your shirt to help you out of it. Once you’re just about done changing into your clean clothes, pulling your shirt down over your head, Renjun places another kiss to your forehead as your head popped out through the hole.
You smile as you pull him by his waist, leave little to no space between your bodies. His hands reach up to cup your face, “darling, if only you could see how beautiful you are.”
Your jaw drops in mock annoyance, “was I not beautiful before?” You joked, your voice full of sarcasm.
“No, y/n, that’s not what I meant, and you know it,” Renjun groaned, rolling his eyes at you, “you were beautiful before, you’re just that much more breathtaking now.” You saw him starting to move to kiss your cheek but you whipped your head at the last minute, making his lips land on yours instead.
You and Renjun were a giggling mess and you both made your way up the house through the lounge as you struggled to coordinate your movements, not used to the way things felt in your body anymore. You watched as Renjun sped up the stairs, your eyes finally able to track his limbs as they moved faster for the human eye to handle. “Try it.” He said, effectively provoking you to do so, even if you tripped twice while only having to go up ten steps total.
Renjun’s fingers wove their way into yours as you entered the living room, feeling all four pairs of eyes fall on you. Yes, four pairs of eyes. Your grip on Renjun’s hand tightened as you recognized a familiar baseball cap atop the fourth boys’ head, pulled down to hide his face from view.
But you don’t have much time to ponder on why he’s here as Jaemin tackles you to the floor, his body moving much too fast for even the highest quality of cameras to catch. “Oh my cutie baby is aliiiiive~ I knew you’d make it, you could never stay away from Nana~” He cooed as he pinched your cheeks while calling you many other sweet names.
You’re relieved of the pressure of his body on yours when Haechan shoves him off you and helps you up. You immediately wrap your arms around him, pulling him into a hug, not missing how his body stiffens in your hold. “Thank you,” you murmur into his ear, not that it would make much of a difference because the others could probably still hear you, “Renjun told me what happened. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you.”
‘I’m sorry.” He mumbled, his body relaxing only when you pull away, already annoyed by someone whispering your name. You turn around, expecting Chenle to be right behind you and you’re surprised to see him standing at least five feet away, letting out his now headache-inducing dolphin laugh.
He walks towards you, landing a punch on your arm that sends you flying into Renjun. Before anyone could do anything, you were already on Chenle, pinning him to the floor in a chokehold, much to the other boys’ amusement. Renjun has to physically pry you off of Chenle, pretty much caging you into a backhug as he tells you, “y/n, this is Mark.”
Your head jerks up as said boy takes his hat off, confirming your suspicions. Renjun’s arms around you grow tighter as if preventing you from running away or doing anything rash.
“Hi, I’m Mark Lee,” he begins, his now darker eyes meeting yours, “I-uh, I’m really sorry for this whole thing, I just lost control and I couldn’t help myself.” His hand flew to the back of his neck as he seemingly wracked his brain for sentences. “Um I was only turned recently so I don’t really know how to control myself, though you kinda already know that.” A pained smile on his face as he realizes the lameness of his own joke.
“Anyways,” Renjun begins, saving Mark from further embarrassment, “after I took him in to The Union, which is basically like vampire government I guess, they tried to arrest him but he was undocumented because the person who turned him didn’t report it--”
“It was my ex-girlfriend,” Mark interjected, “she left me shortly after because she found her mate though.”
“But continuing on, they wanted to put him in rehab, though one of the officers working said it would be more helpful if he were to be assigned to someone to have them mentor him,” Renjun explains, “and after some negotiations, I decided to take Mark because some of those higher ups are corrupt and I’d much rather have him trained by one of us than potentially let him become a slave.”
Chenle snorts, “yeah, I’d know first hand. Some of them are real filthy, y/n.”
“In all honesty though, as much as I am grateful, I won’t force you to let me stay if you’re uncomfortable with me being here.” Mark informs you.
You look over at Renjun, to which he just nods as if urging you to speak. “If Renjun says it’s the best option, then I trust his judgement. I just...I just need some time.”
“Oh great, now there’s three of us?” Chenle groans.
Jaemin giggled at him, “but you’ll always be Nana’s baby won’t you?” He cooed at Chenle as he ruffled the youngers' hair.
“You’re a gross old man and you know it.” Chenle retorts, drawing laughs from everyone around the room.
Tumblr media
The house is full of noise and movement for the next couple of days as rooms are reorganized to fit two new occupants, Mark and Chenle, along with remodeling a storage room into a classroom/training room of sorts for you and the other two newer vampires.
“You can take Mark and Chenle can pay to have his own room built.” Haechan argued, not wanting to give up the room he used alone.
Jaemin scoffs, “you won’t be laughing when we’re the ones who have to build it. Just take Mark and I’ll take Chenle.”
“Why can’t Chenle just go to his own room and then Mark can stay with you?” Haechan whined, throwing his arms up in frustration.
“Renjun already said we can’t build another room because of some policy and you know that.” Jaemin said through clenched teeth. “Would you rather have him banshee screaming in your room or mine?”
Haechan let out a huff of indignation, “yours,” he grumbled, “I guess I’m taking Mark then.”
Tumblr media
The first lesson you have is an impromptu one while you’re watching a movie with Mark after finding out how close in age the two of you are and that he too isn’t from China. Jaemin was there as well, though he was reading a book, already having watched the movie.
“Hey Jaem, when Haechan was talking to Renjun before he turned me, he said something about not wanting to be in charge of “another one”, what was that all about?” You ask, accentuating your words using finger quotations.
Jaemin looks up, lost in thought for a second before responding. “When a vampire turns someone, they form a bond with that person if they’re quite close to them. Haechan turned me and you, putting him “in charge” of both of us.” He explained, copying your use of finger quotations. “Though I think you may have a small connection with Markie over here too.”
Mark whips around, his attention no longer on the movie. “I--wait what?”
“You bit her didn’t you?” Jaemin asks rhetorically. “You turned her and here you are acting like best friends. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some type of bond between the two of you.”
Mark’s mouth opens and closes like a fish as he struggled to put words together. “But Renjun...is her mate??”
Jaemin lets out a loud laugh, “not like that silly. A creator bond isn’t like a mate bond when you feel stuff when you touch them and makes their blood taste sweet. It’s like when your creator feels strong emotions, you feel it too and there’s this type of pull that makes you want to stay with them.”
“So how does that work between you and Haechan?” Mark questions, clearly still lost in confusion.”
Jaemin reaches for the remote to pause the movie before answering, “when Haechan is happy, I am happy. When Haechan is sad, I am sad. Simple as that. Being with him puts me at ease so I just like being with him.”
You snickered, a plan forming in your head, “does that mean if we make Haechan mad, then you and I will both feel it?”
“Theoretically, yes.” Jaemin responds.
Tumblr media
The three of you put together a plan to make Haechan angry, which is put into action during family game night when all six of you got together to play some type of group game. Tonight it was Mariokart.
Since only four people could play at a time, you and Jaemin volunteered to wait for the next round, smirking as the others began choosing their characters and yelling at each other already. You got up from your seat next to Renjun on the sofa, squeezing his thigh to let him know you’d be starting the plan. You had enough sense to tell him in advance so he wouldn’t get mad at your next actions.
You sat down next to Haechan, throwing your legs over his lap and resting your head on his shoulder. He wraps an arm around you so he can still hold the controller while keeping you close to him. “Hey Princess, didn’t want to sit with Renjun?”
“No, I know he’s just gonna yell in my ear the whole time.” You hear Renjun whine in response, but you paid no mind to it. You heard the familiar beeping as the countdown for the race started, smiling to yourself as you thought about what you were about to do to the poor unsuspecting boy next to you.
As soon as you heard the signal for the start of the race, you pushed yourself on Haechan’s lap and straddled him, effectively blocking his view of the TV. “Yah! Yah! Y/n I can’t see!”
He shifts around trying to get a better view of the screen but you move with him, only allowing him to see when he tries to kiss you, making you back away, revealing part of the TV to him. You felt an itching sensation building up in your chest and you continue to mess around with Haechan though he still manages to stay in fifth place, having had all the time in the world to memorize all the maps in the game.
You glance over at Jaemin for help and he instantly moves to sit next to Haechan, making baby noises as he tries to land a kiss on Haechan’s cheek. The boy under attack jerks around even more, trying to get away from Jaemin while also still struggling to view the screen. He lets out a shriek when he falls to sixth place as Renjun passes him, hearing a whoop come from your boyfriend on the other end of the sofa.
You decide to go in for the kill as you turn to beckon Mark over, hearing Haechan groan, “not you too.” Mark sits on the other side of Haechan and whips out his phone, reading off facts about the pudu while throwing in some facts about the sun every so often.
A flame erupts inside of you when the game ends and you can feel Haechan’s anger building up. You turn around to see Haechan’s character at the bottom of the list in eighth place. “What the fuck?” Haechan yells, finally gaining enough strength to push you off onto Jaemin who immediately latches on to you while laughing. Despite the sensation in your chest begging you to punch someone or something, you begin laughing with Jaemin, causing Haechan to get only more upset.
When Mark explains the plan to him, his eyes go red as he grabs your shoulder, pulling you close enough to him to whisper in your ear, “oh, Princess, you have no idea what you just got yourself into.”
Tumblr media
Not even a week later Haechan and Jaemin got into an argument in the middle of the night.
“Jaemin turn your music down” Haechan yelled through the wall separating his room from Jaemin’s. “I’m trying to complete a challenge and I can’t even think with your shit music playing.”
“For your information, Ariana Grande is a legend.” Jaemin shouts back. “And no, I will not turn it off, we’re just vibing over here.” Chenle’s laugh rang throughout the house.
The dispute only got worse as the two boys fueled each other on and you began to feel that same itching feeling in your chest as you saw Haechan storm into Jaemin’s room and appear seconds later, dragging him out into the backyard, only lit by the shine of the moon.
You followed them out and watched as Haechan threw Jaemin into the ground so hard that it left a Jaemin-shaped imprint in the dirt. You couldn’t help but feel giddy and excited, no doubt coming from Haechan’s own emotions. Hearing the commotion, Renjun was immediately beside you, laughing to himself as he suggests you join them.
Latching onto Renjun’s arm, you were about to refuse until Haechan looked over at you, “yeah, Princess, why don’t you join us?” He said mockingly. “You always threaten to beat us up, there’s no better time to start than now. Everyone’s watching anyway.”
Looking over your shoulder, you find Chenle and Mark standing in the doorway, both of them starting to chant “fight him, fight him, fight him” and even gaining the support of your boyfriend who pushes you out onto the lawn.
You stand in front of Haechan and copy the stance he was in, not wanting to make the first move. Once he sees you’re ready, he lunges at you, but you’re fast enough to process his movement and grab one of his arms, using your newborn vampire strength to slam him into the ground just as he did with Jaemin but your victory was short-lived.
The second Haechan’s body hits the floor, you and Jaemin let out yells of pain as you both fall as well, holding onto your right shoulders, the same one Haechan was grasping as he rolled around in pain. You glance over at Renjun for help at which he just shakes his head while flashing you a sad smile. “He wouldn’t dare attack me. My pain is your pain and Renjun is too much of a softie to do that.” Haechan said, slyly smirking at you as he pushes himself off the ground.
What you didn’t expect was for Chenle to shove Mark out onto the grass, yelling “Haechan you should fight him too! For science!”
“What freaking field of science is that?” You burst out as you made your way to Renjun, not wanting to go through another round of indirect torture.
Chenle shrugs his shoulders. “The study of y/n and her creators I guess, I don’t know.”
You could only watch from Renjun’s embrace as Haechan threw Mark around easily, the latter having little to no combat experience whatsoever. You were pleasantly surprised when you realized you weren’t on the receiving end of Mark’s pain or emotions, letting out a breath you didn’t know you were holding.
Haechan eventually grew tired, telling Renjun to “supervise the kids as they get their energy out” as he headed back inside with Jaemin. So under Renjun’s ‘adult supervision’ as you called it, you spent the rest of the night sparring with Mark and Chenle, though it was mostly you bullying Mark because you could never get anything past Chenle, seeing as how he already had four years of experience on you.
Renjun, who hadn’t been paying attention, choosing to read a book instead, looked up when he heard Mark let out a particularly loud yelp. He took in the bruised and bloodied state the three of you were in and immediately called off playtime. “I think that’s enough for tonight, you guys should go back in and clean up before the sun rises.”
Renjun took it upon himself to clean you up, though it didn’t take much effort. Broken bones would heal within a few days. Bruises and scratches would be gone in less than that but Renjun insisted on helping you wash up like how he always did when you were still human.
As Renjun had finished cleaning you up in your shared bathroom, you watched your cuts close up on their own as Renjun put away the first aid supplies. Once he was done, you grabbed his hand, pulling him out of the bathroom and telling him to follow you as you collected a few pillows and blankets before making your way through the house to the study room, which had the best view of the sunrise.
Renjun already knew the drill, as watching the sunrise had become a common thing for the two of you. He helps you set up the arrangements of pillows and blankets before letting himself lie down, a content sigh leaving his lips as you throw a leg over his waist and rest your head on his chest.
There was still some time left before the sun would actually come out, so you began talking to him to pass the time, watching as the sky gradually became lighter. “Are you ever upset at Haechan for turning me instead of you doing it yourself?”
Renjun looks off to the side as he comes up with a response. “I do really wish it was me who turned you, though given the circumstances, I know it wasn’t possible for me to do so.”
“Yeah I know, but like, don’t you ever worry about my bond to Haechan?” You ask, knowing you’d be worried if the situation were reversed.
He hums before answering your question, “I rarely do worry about it. Though I choose not to think about the what ifs, like what if Haechan gets into a fight where I can’t do anything? You’d be in pain and I won’t be able to stop it,” he says, turning to face you, “or if he decides to leave us one day, I don’t even know how his pull would affect you.”
Renjun pauses, searching your eyes as if they held an answer for him. “Above all, though, I am thankful for him because I know if it weren’t for him, you may night be in my arms right now.” He admitted as he fully turned to face you, his hand finding its way to rest on your back as he placed a kiss on your lips.
You smiled into the kiss before pulling away, wanting to admire the way the light cast shadow across Renjun’s face and lit his eyes up in a way only you’d be able to see, a sight made specifically for you.
Renjun turns away and looks out the window, shy from the sudden attention you were giving him. “You’re like my sunshine, y/n.” Neither of you move, lost in the beauty of the sun peeking out over the mountains.
“And you’re my moon. All the time I’ve spent with you is made beautiful by just your presence alone.”

Anything But Mine - Seavey Shark Week
A/N An episode of Modern Family inspired this one… Also this is terribly unedited so I am very sorry lol I just wanted this idea down so it might be all over the place 😶
W/C: 1.8k
Tumblr media
It has been mentioned plenty of times that Daniel loved nothing more than his wife and three daughters and he wouldn’t change anything about his family for a million dollars. Well, that can only be said so much once all the girls are teenagers and things start to change. Things starting to change as in suddenly all three daughters and his wife had synced female cycles, meaning one week a month was almost hell on earth for Daniel. But…he wouldn’t change anything for a million dollars. But it got close sometimes.
His first warning sign was the notification on his phone from Florence’s app that her cycle was starting – they had it synced to his phone to for birth control and ‘safety’ reasons but that’s irrelevant here. This little notification meant he had time to emotionally prepare himself for the week. Daniel wasn’t the father or husband who would shy away from problems or lock himself in his room until it was over and he knew very well that these weeks in particular demanded imperative attention and care.
His second warning sign was Penelope’s sudden drop in appetite. Over breakfast she would eat only half her usual serving and then throw the rest out, dragging herself tiredly around the apartment to get ready for school as if she was physically weighed down by a ball and chain. Then would come Clementine’s temper, yelling at anything that was in her way; the shirt she wanted not being clean, not enough cereal for the amount that she wanted left in the box, or even just Daniel putting his dishes in the dishwasher earned him a loud and exasperated “Dad!” from the eldest. Lucy was only almost thirteen so thankfully she hadn’t grown into the worst of it yet, but it was a thin line they walked on.
Daniel watched his girls rush around to get ready for school as he packed his lunch for work slowly, eyes following each girl carefully. Florence joined him in the kitchen, pulling him in for a kiss, “Good morning, baby.”
“Morning, my love.” Daniel smiled softly at her as she started to get her own breakfast ready.
By the time the girls were ready to leave for school, they were behind schedule and were all rushing to catch the subway together in a panic, shouting their goodbyes to their parents as they left. Daniel got to work on time, thankfully, even after Florence struggled to let him leave for a bit, and he got himself settled for the day in his office to review what needed to be done. Work was always a good little break on weeks like that. It was barely lunchtime when the intercom buzzed, and his secretary was saying the elementary school was on the line.
Daniel thanked her quickly and picked up the line with a rushed, “Hello?”
“Daddy.” Lucy sniffled from the other end. “Thank God you answered.”
“Of course, sweetheart. What’s wrong? Are you okay?”
“No. I need to be picked up. I tried calling Mom but she didn’t answer…I think she’s out today but…I need to come home.”
“Okay. I can come get you. What’s going on? Are you sick?” Daniel started to pack up his things with the phone balanced between his ear and his shoulder.
Lucy whimpered through the phone and let out a small sob before whispering, “I bled through my jeans.”
Daniel’s eyes went wide, “Oh. Okay. I’m on my way. Hang tight.”
“Please hurry.”
Daniel rushed out of the studio, calling to his secretary on the way past to please cancel all of his afternoon appointments as he ran out the door to his car. He nearly floored it down to the elementary school and headed inside to the main office where his poor little seventh grader was sitting in the corner with a hoodie around her waist and tears on her cheeks. At the sight of him, Lucy jumped up and threw her arms around him tightly.
“Let’s get you home.” Daniel pressed a kiss to her head and signed her out at the front desk before taking her backpack for her and led her to the car.
Neither of them spoke on the drive home and Lucy sat curled up against the window with her eyes closed for most of it. When they got back to the apartment, Lucy went right to her room to get changed and Daniel pulled out his phone to text Florence as he made two cups of tea in the kitchen. Lucy came back out in a fresh hoodie and leggings, her face washed dry of tears, and she sat down at the breakfast bar with a sigh.
“You feeling okay? Not dizzy or anything?” Daniel asked.
Lucy shook her head, “No. Just embarrassed.”
“I bet.” Daniel passed her a mug and she thanked him softly. “But there’s no need to be embarrassed. This has happened numerous times to Mom too.”
“Really?” Lucy’s eyebrows raised nearly hopeful.
“Yep.” Daniel brushed his daughter’s hair from her face from across the counter. “I’m sure she can tell you all those stories when she gets home. Wanna pick a movie to watch?”
She smiled and nodded and they made their way to the living room with their tea and cookies. Lucy chose to watch Les Misérables since it was one of her favourite musicals and she curled up with Daniel as they watched it together. Florence came home a bit later from her lunch date with Callum, apologizing profusely to her daughter for missing her call.
“It’s okay, Mama.” Lucy whispered. “Dad took good care of me.”
“I’m glad.” Florence smiled at the both of them cuddled up together on the couch. She put her few things away and joined them.
It wasn’t long before the oldest two were home from school around 2:30 and they join the family for the last 1/3 of the movie. Of course, Daniel was eventually surrounded by four sobbing women as the film progressed, barely being able to even hear the soundtrack over their crying, but he didn’t dare leave, squished tightly between Florence and Lucy, both of them clinging onto him through their tears.
“This movie is fuckin’ sad.” Clementine mumbled as the credits rolled.
“After everything he just died in peace with his daughter at his side!” Penelope sobbed, curled up beside her mother.
“Cinematic excellence.” Lucy whimpered. “So good.”
“Okay,” Daniel started to get up but the girls pulled him back down, all of them talking and crying over each other about the film.
“Don’t you ever die, Daddy!” Lucy sobbed, wrapping her arms around his middle.
“Oh my gosh.” Daniel gaped. “I’m not dying. It was just a movie. Can we have dinner now?”
“Pizza?” Clementine suggested.
“Yeah, we can order pizza.” Daniel agreed.
Of course, by the time it arrived, Penelope was sent dry heaving into the kitchen sink with her nausea by only the smell of the food and Florence left her to rest on the couch with a warm pack and a blanket while the rest of the family ate. Daniel barely got his usual three slices as his other two daughters stole most of the pizza from the two boxes they ordered, talking loudly over top of each other.
When dinner was over and the dishes were put away and the girls went off to work on their homework, Daniel bent down beside the couch and brushed his hand over Penelope’s dark hair, making her stir and blink her eyes open, “Hey, bug. You feeling okay?”
She shook her head tiredly.
“Can I get you anything?”
“No.” Penelope shifted a little in pain. “But I can’t lay here…I gotta do my English homework.”
“Do you want medicine?”
“Maybe, yeah.”
“Okay.” Daniel stood up again and headed back into the kitchen to retrieve the bottle of pills from the cabinet and unscrewed the cap to pour two into his hand. He returned it and poured a glass of water and took both back to the living room.
“I feel like I’m gonna throw up.” Penelope breathed as she sat up slowly. “It hurts so bad.”
“These will start to help.” Daniel passed her the pills and then the water and she took them one at a time before finishing the water and holding it back to him.
“Thanks.”
“Lucy!” Clementine shouted from the dining room table, making Daniel and Penelope look over at them.
“What?!” the youngest sister snapped back.
“You’re hogging the entire table! I need my textbook here and you keep pushing it away!”
“I need to do my own work too!”
“What work?! You’re twelve.”
“Doesn’t mean I’m less important than you!”
“Yes, it does!”
“No, it doesn’t!”
“Yeah!”
“Nuh uh!”
“Girls! My gosh!” Daniel cut in, walking over to mediate. “Relax-”
“Relax? How can I relax when I’m going to flunk out because my stupid baby sister is hogging all the workspace!” Clementine shouted, throwing her eraser at Lucy from across the table.
“You’re rude!” Lucy crumpled up a piece of paper and threw it back.
“Hey. Hey!” Daniel put his hand between them. “Enough! One of you sit at the island so you can have your own space to work.”
“Get moving, baby sis.” Clementine snapped.
Lucy glared at her and slammed her binder shut before shuffling her things to the breakfast bar with annoyance.
Daniel put the empty glass in his hand in the dishwasher and headed down the hallway to finally put his bag away from work, leaving the girls to their own devices. He was already tired out and it was only the first day of the week, and he set his laptop on his desk with a heavy sigh.
“Tired already?” Florence asked teasingly as she walked out of the ensuite.
“Yeah.” Daniel chuckled, glancing at her before opening his laptop and typing in his password.
Florence wrapped her arms around his waist and rested her chin on his shoulder, “Do you have to do work right now?”
“At least a little bit since I left early today. Why?” Daniel stood up straighter and turned to face her.
“I need a restock. Can you be a sweet husband and go to the store to pick me up some?”
Daniel chuckled lightly, pulling her in for a tight hug and peppered kisses over her cheek, “Sure thing, baby. Anything else you need?”
“No.” Florence said. “Thank you.”
Daniel knew what she needed well after nearly twenty years of knowing her but he also took shopping orders from the girls as well, each of them giving specific instructions on what they needed. Daniel had reached the point that he wasn’t embarrassed about anything anymore as he pulled up to the cash at the drugstore with four different boxes of pads and tampons, a fistful of chocolate bars, a tub of ice cream, and an energy drink for himself.
“Girlfriend?” the young man at the cash asked lightheartedly.
“Wife and three daughters.” Daniel answered with a calm smile.
“Wow. Shit must be rough.”
Daniel shook his head as he tapped his debit card to pay for the items, “Nah. I wouldn’t trade it for a million dollars.”

Shout-out to @wehave4ever for very casually, very innocently, mentioning that oh, some people on twitter have started to read your fic and have been live tweeting. Once I figured out how to not only search on twitter but what to search for (long titles are my weakness, but I’ve come to realize some flaws to it - another being having to repeatedly write it whenever I uploaded another chapter on tumblr) I actually found out about the shit show that’s been going on.
So! First of all:
Reading everyone’s reactions has been not only awesome but goddamn hilarious. People have been freaking out, and I have been cackling
Just the progression from someone recommending the story - the casual “oh that sounds good!” or “the tags sound interesting” and then watch when the caps lock breaks out = *chef’s kiss*
I especially love the fact that everyone has been referring to it as “that fic“ (because ain’t nobody got the time to write that title) and not “something great” which was the intended abbreviation xD It’s great. I both add emphasis and punctuation internally whenever I read it, because it only adds to the hilarity.
I should probably rebrand to “Hurts So Good” as that seems to be the general consensus.
It did mean it was very difficult to snoop through search engines in my momentary megalomania, as there are many “that fic” that exists out there on the wild Twitter.
Yes, the party chapter is very, very long.
Have I had to literally go through my own story to figure out what people have been yelling about chapter-specifically? Yes. It is all one big blur of 363 pages, especially now that I’m no longer actively working on it/uploading it.
Kudos to the war veterans who read the story whilst it was still being uploaded and to the fast readers who have already finished: I see you. Ya’ll have been doing god’s work working very hard to not spoil anything. You now feel the pain that I felt being the sole #evendefensesquad.
It’s so easy to tell who has and hasn’t read far enough, because you’ve got people saying “I hate Even!” and then you have the others going “nooooOOooOOOooOoooo I can’t explain why but you doooOOooOOoOOoon’t”
And just in general, everyone has been so sweet, thank you 🥺🥺🥺 <3
Really, doesn’t matter if it’s on twitter or in the comments, everyone has been so, so lovely.
Which has definitely factored in on my decision to write a chapter from Even’s pov - wait, what
The second So! of this post:
Is this a joke? No. Is this mainly self-indulgent? Yeah, but I still hope people will read it. Specifically to the person I’ve talked about maybe doing a mini-fic about various firsts between Isak and Even in this universe: I haven’t forgotten! It’s still on the back-burners.
My thoughts so far, because we’re still early in the process: It will not be as long. No matter how far in the process I get, it will not be +160k long. No. I am putting my foot down. I’m not thinking multi-chaptered either, more of a oneshot (probs around 30 - 40k? but who knows. we’ll see). I’m also thinking of doing the entire thing chronologically, as the mystery of why was revealed in the +160k story - OK, I’ll let it go. But so far I’ve been thinking about Even’s version of the events, and then extra scenes between chapter 13 and the epilogue? I can’t promise an actual court case, because I still don’t know how to write those, but maybe more explicitly going over the fact that, yeah, a lawsuit happens. And just other small character development-things that I’m a sucker for. And we can add more meta to Even’s movies 😏
No ETA because I’m terrible at keeping to them and it just makes me stressed :( So who knows! It’s definitely in the works! And to tide everyone over, here are many more snippets than I’d usually give (doesn’t say a lot, I’ve only given exactly one (1) snippet before, but that’s not the poINT)
Completely unedited, btw, because I can’t have gotten everything done already.
I - spoilers? As in - definitely?
